Quote:Gratz.I have all the day job badges on lots of alts and am 1 or 2 away on many more (locked out due to level constraints.)
I can see how they'd be annoying if you don't play many alts, but for me, I luvs 'em! I esp like the accolade temp powers like Frag Gendade, Tear Gas, Sleep Gas, Heal, Rez, Rune of Purification, Beguile, etc.
My main collected all his Day Jobs ages ago and still makes sure to log off in appropriate areas to recharge temps!
My two mains just wrapped the 6 alignment specific Day Jobs now. Feels good to literally have them all. -
For those that are feeling ill at the concept of this Farley Brothers Stooge movie being made, perhaps this will help you feel better.

Well if you think what has been revealed so far is bad (and it is), here is some more: I saw a quick clip of an interview with the Farleys and how they are keeping the slapstick but trying to be original while at the same time making it reminiscent of the olg gags that they Stooges pulled. One thing they said is that the Stooges will apparently be hiding in a nursery for some reason and the infants in there are basically in need of new diapers at the moment and every now and then the Stooges will get spritzed by the infants in what is supposed to be a nod/homage/tribute to the clam chowder schtick when the clam would emerge and spray Curly..........................
OH THE FAIL IS GOING TO BE EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would rather see George Lucas use CGI to bring the originals back to life as it were and use same and new gags and schticks with a modern plot then what the Farley brothers are planning, that is how bad I feel this movie is going to tank.
Attention all Stooge fans: I shall be supplying torches and pitchforks should you need them...... -
Quote:I wouldn't say altered so much as glossed over, particularly in regards to the Ted Healy days. They did skip the fact that after Curly replaced Shemp that they went back to work for Ted for a bit before finally getting sick of his drunken stupidity as well as being cheated of money and THEN they went to Columbia.Since I'm not in the US and therefore cannot watch Hulu, is that the biopic with Michael Chiklis as Curly? If it is, then it's vastly superior to whatever else Hollywood could brew up, even if it altered some of the events.
Shemp returning due to Curly's stroke was correct, Curly not recovering was correct, Shemp's sudden death was correct, the Joe Besser part was definitely glossed over and made to look like they never made any with Joe Besser at all which isn't true. They adjusted the act so that Larry took more of the slapstick abuse and Joe didn't as it wasn't quite his thing. Joe also left amicably due to his wife being ill, he wasn't just tossed by the studio and replaced by DeRita.
But TV time constraints will cause such things. -
One can only imagine how the Stooge's estate must feel. Oh sure, C3 Productions which was created by the Stooges and pretty much owns the Stooges I'm sure gave this project a green light. Still, I would hope that if they have any reservations about the plot or casting or about the thing in general that they would exercise some control if possible.
Still, here's hoping the big red button labeled "abort" gets pressed for this project. -
Yeah. I can't see networks jumping on this.
-
The latest word....and ain't looking too good from a plot standpoint.

I really do not see this movie doing justice to the Stooges at all and would love to see them abort this project. -
Quote:eh, the whole reason it got started again was because of the Ghostbusters Game, which Murray DID do.
So hey, could be interesting.
Yeah he did do the game, but how much arm twisting and money did it take? It has long been rumored that he has been the biggest reason for why Ghostbusters 3 hasn't happened. Ghostbusters 2 not doing too well didn't help either, of course. -
Well I guess the bright side to this new Blu Ray set is that it is very unlikely the Star Wars Holiday Special will be in it as a bonus
We all know how Lucas feels about that particular monstrosity -
I've suggested before that they could also tie the 5th column gladiator badge to the badge that one wins at the end of Khan TF or Cuda SF.

Quote:Well Lucas does like using the movies to test new CGI tech, hence all the revisions of the classics and the CGI extravaganza that was the prequels. And George will not care one whit about that. He'll make sure the version he's sending out is great for visuals and sound, but with all the tweaks he needed to keep making to the originals.
Of course, it is his sandbox we are just playing in it.... -
That was just the laser discs ported over to DVD without even being remastered. I swear he did it as an afterthought.
-
I have all 6 on DVD, a 5.1 sound system with up convert player and a shiny new 55" LCD TV.......trust me when I say that all six right now are looking darn good. I'll avoid this new Blu Ray stuff pending a list of all the features of this set such as what I hope would be included as listed below:
1. original unaltered classic trilogy included as a SELECTABLE OPTION ON THE DVD MENU! and NO I don't mean the cheap DVD's created from the laserdiscs. Blu Ray the original versions of the classics and you....George....will help bring joy to millions of Star Wars fans who in turn will enrich your bank account!
2. With luck Lucas struck a deal with Liam Neeson to make Jedi ghost appearances in Ep 2 and especially Ep 3. (read the ep 3 novelization, you'll know what I mean)
3. HAN SHOT FIRST! remove what some consider to be the most ridiculous of all Special Edition changes!
4. Commentary that is actually worth listening to and just hours of patting yourselves on the back. The only decent commentary remark was that Lucas gave a commentary explanation about how Anakin was made into a ghost in ROTJ.
5. Complete listing of all deleted and alternate scenes to see if there is anything I'd remember from the old days and if it would be worth seeing.
6. NO MORE REVISIONS OR SPECIAL EDITIONS! Bequeath the George Lucas Empire to your kids and let them REBOOT the whole thing if they want. Perhaps they can rewrite it all and close off the assorted plot holes.... -
Quote:Indeed, Captain Marvel/Shazam is the only DC hero that could replace Superman since he himself was created to be Fawcett Comic's version of Superman. If they do loose Superman, then maybe Captain Marvel will finally become the superman he was always meant to be.
I liked how CM was used in Justice League Unlimited, Batman/Superman Public Enemies, and the Return of Black Adam.
DC is sitting on a potential gold mine with the character.
Too bad that Marvel has a hammerlock on the rights to publish a book titled Captain Marvel, eh? -
Quote:I'll have to read up on that later. As to Marvelman I don't think he'd fit in too well in the MU unless he's revamped and brought in. If they try to "shoehorn" him into MU continuity like they did with that cheap superman knockoff the Sentry then it won't work. You're right, they haven't yet. But you -know- they will.
I really, really have to question the "Best of" stuff they reprinted. Marvelman was published for how long and those stories were the best?! Really?! Granted Marvel may actually want to bring in the Marvelman family as a couple of thuglike vigilantes, 'cause that's sure what they come off as to me in the reprint mini.
Marvel said they got the rights to Marvelman. Fans assumed that meant they also got the rights to the Miracleman stories, which are the ones that got all the publicity. Far as I know, Marvel's never clarified if they have any Miracleman material or if they're just going to run with Marvelman.
To say the whole Marvelman/Miracleman thing is extremely complicated is a massive understatement. Wiki helps to give a decent idea of the extent of the mess of the rights.
Heh, maybe Marvel is holding out to see how the DC vs Superman Creator estate lawsuit turns out. If DC loses the rights (and that is a possibility last I checked) can you imagine Marvel stepping in with an offer if for no other sake then to make DC squirm and beg to keep Superman? If Superman is lost to DC, then DC will need yet another Crisis series to shuffle Superman out of their continuity. Crisis of Infinite Trademark Suits.....nice title. -
Yeah I remember that one and checked it the other month. Long since fixed along with the other known hotspots. Used to be a place in Shark where you could have gotten the graveyard badge in a week due to a hotspot.

Quote:What hurts the NJO/Vong War was that for me it was getting a bit lengthy. The hardcover books had the main events and the paperbacks inbetween had a few events in them and some plot revelations but the series was just getting too long. By the time the last novel came out I was glad. The other thing that hurt it was Lucas' interference by mandating that Anakin Solo be killed off due to the fear that fans would watch the prequels and be confused by Anakin Skywalker in the movies vs. Anakin Solo in the books. (I'm not kidding). The writers didn't even have Anakin Solo due the big fade away into the Force and as of yet, he has not appeared as a Jedi Ghost. This threw things off a bit as I remember they planned for Jaina vs. Jacen in this series as part of some Vong ritual but some things had to be aborted. Many have already suggested my favorites, but I do still have one suggestion. If you only read one thing, read the original thrawn trilogy by Zahn (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, Last Command) - and if you read more than one thing, read them first. Why? Not only are they by Zahn and hence awesome, they were essentially the first major expanded universe novels published. Thus, there aren't any references to other novels, etc - nothing you have to go read or a certain part won't make sense. All you need to do is have seen the original trilogy.
Aside from that, I would echo the suggestions of the entire Stackpole/Allston X-wing series, I, Jedi (and thus, even though it's not as good in my opinion, you'll probably have to read the jedi academy trilogy whose events interweave with the early parts of that book), the 'Han solo origin story' trilogy by Crispin (The Paradise Snare, The Hutt Gambit, Rebel Dawn), and everything else by Zahn.
I specifically *don't* recommend anything set, chronologically, after Vector Prime (the beginning of the 'New Jedi Order' series and the Yuuzhan Vong war). It's just my own opinion, of course, but I *really* didn't like the direction the universe took at that point - specifically, how dark and grim the whole thing got. If Star Wars stories were supposed to be 'everyone dies', they'd be set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.I finished the New Jedi Order series, but I regretted it, and what little I learned about the next series was enough to turn me off of the era completely. YMMV, of course, but that's my two cents on that particular topic.
It also began to use the concepts of Unifying Force and Living Force from the prequels and led to a major change for Luke and the Jedi code about the Darkside, which while good sadly didn't last.
Dark Nest Trilogy: decent story, Luke and Leia finally learn about Padme thanks to the Deus Ex Machina that is Artoo Detoo, we see that Jacen is kind of skirting the darkside a bit but seems to have a more well rounded view of the force and seems to be similar to Qui-Gon in attitude, imo. But it also pretty much restores the classic light vs dark mentality of the Force from the movies.
Legacy novels: well I guess it was inevitable that someone descended from Anakin Skywalker would try to follow in his footsteps. As I recall the series ended up being cut short a bit due to some negative reaction of the fans and some things were left unresolved at the time.
However strictly speaking the Star Wars EU started long before Heir to the Empire:
Splinter of the Mind's Eye is a science fiction novel; it is a sequel to both Star Wars and its novelization Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker. Written by Alan Dean Foster and originally published in 1978 by Del Rey, a division of Ballantine Books, it was the first original full-length Star Wars novel to be published after the release of the 1977 Star Wars film, retroactively making it one of the earliest Expanded Universe works.
The principal characters are Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Darth Vader. The characters of Han Solo and Chewbacca do not appear, and Solo is only referred to by Luke Skywalker as "a pirate and a smuggler" he once knew at the end of the book. The book was originally written to be filmed as a low-budget sequel to Star Wars if the original film was not a success.
[/b]The Han Solo Adventures[/b], by Brian Daley, is a 1979 trilogy of science fiction novels set in the Star Wars fictional universe two years before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977). The trilogy follows the smuggling days of Han Solo and Chewbacca before the movies. The books were released April, June and August 1979 respectively. They also were published as an omnibus edition in 1992.
The events of series are incorporated into the timeline of the rest of the Star Wars Expanded Universe by being contextualized in interludes in Rebel Dawn, the final book of Ann C. Crispin's The Han Solo Trilogy, published in 1998.
Adventures of Lando Calrissian is a trilogy of science fiction novels set in the Star Wars galaxy 52 years BBY. The series serves as a prequel to the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The trilogy follows the smuggling days of Lando Calrissian before the movies and helps further establish his character. The trilogy was written by L. Neil Smith. The books were released July, October and December 1983 respectively.
In A.C. Crispin's The Han Solo Trilogy, this series is brought into chronological context with the rest of the Star Wars Expanded Universe.
Heir to the Empire pretty much reboots the EU books and the above books are referenced or loosely tied in at best. -
Quote:Really? I thought Marvel got all the rights to everything for the character and that it was a done deal? And only certain ones at that. The isues that folks really, really want may never see reprint due to all the legal issues surrounding the books.
Ah well, more reason to bring Mar-Vell back. I respect Jim Starlin and the Death of Captain Marvel story, but Marvel pretty much wrote themselves into a corner with how Mar-Vell was killed off. Now writers and editors are loathe to bring him back due to how he perished, and what a touching story it was.
IMO, its time for Marvel to either man up and bring Mar-Vell back, or else restore his son Genis-Vell, or make an all new replacement and stick with it and not sabotage it with stupid editorial decisions like that stupid U-decide contest.
Granted that restoring Genis would be easier then bringing Mar-Vell back, but I think I'd rather have Mar-Vell return. Either a messianic themed resurrection or else a complete universal reboot event which so far is what Chaos War could end up being.
Death has fled and thus dead heroes are temporarily back on Earth, albeit still dead. Question now is when Hercules defeats the Chaos King will any of the dead be revived? Alpha Flight, maybe? Captain Mar-vell, hopefully? -
Well one badge hunter completes the 6th alignment specific DJ yesterday and now has them all. Sent it into Praetoria and made a clean sweep of all Praetorian badges that can be obtained for a primal toon, then made it a villain again to complete the alignment badges. A good day to be badge hunter, now I just need to switch it back to the blue side.

Seriously though, I do hope that this LONG OVERDUE change to the EIC position leads to many good things such as:
1. The retcon/removal of OMD/BND/OMIT
2. Less mega crossover events
3. Restoration of certain cosmic titles (Nova, Guardians)
4. The retcon/removal of OMD/BND/OMIT
5. Enough of the "death events" such as what is coming up in the FF
6. The retcon/removal of OMD/BND/OMIT
7. The reestablishment of Galactus as a major universal force instead of jobbing him
8. The retcon/removal of OMD/BND/OMIT
9. The creation of a new Captain Marvel character that isn't going to be shafted by editorial mandate and forced to have his series relaunched due to some stupid U-decide contest.
10. The retcon/removal of OMD/BND/OMIT
11. If #9 cannot be done, then restore Captain Mar-Vell to life
12. Did I mention: The retcon/removal of OMD/BND/OMIT?
13. Also the Highlander rule of "there can be only ONE" needs to be applied to the Hulk. Let us hope that Red Hulk isn't around for much longer. -
