It does not take the strategic acumen of Sun-Tzu to see that Wade has a trick up his sleeve and is OBVIOUSLY trying to provoke a response. Actually giving him that response is USDA certified Prime Grade-A stupid. If we were talking about an "ordinary" hero I might let this pass as "reasonable stupidity" if it was the only fly in the ointment (it isn't), but not from Statesman. The guy was a soldier and international criminal mastermind for about 20 years before starting his 80-year tenure as a superhero. If he was actually this dumb he'd have died a long time ago.
We are presuming that Statesman didn't suspect something was coming and had some plans in place in case he actually did perish.

On the other hand, Statesman was immortal and thus likely had no fear of what he felt Darren Wade could do, thus underestimated him and fell into the fatal trap.

OR: Statesman knew what was coming and had a death wish.

He's the equivalent of Superman - not only to DC comics, but to comics in general.

The symbol for heroes is Statesman's star, just as the symbol for villains is the Arachnos spider. He represented the entire hero side of the game.

And, while I've had plenty of heroes and villains as "sidekicks", following me around on various missions, the one I found most exciting - the moment I felt like my character had really "made it", like I was really in the big leagues now - was when Statesman was the one following me around, after I'd just rescued him from Pretoria.

And now they just killed him off. The Justice League just lost its Superman, the Avengers just lost its Captain America. Who will replace him? Who's going to be the face of the game now? Not Hawkeye/Green Arrow, or Quicksilver/Flash, or even Iron Man (especially not an Iron Man in rusty-looking puke-green armor). They don't have that sort of gravitas.
Yes our characters are now in a world without Statesman, which means that the current generation of heroes and the heroes yet to come will have Statesman's memory/example/legacy to live up to.

Now the characters of CoH do not have their immortal and indestructible Deus Ex Machina hero to swoop in and save the day when all others have failed. (Wasn't it said that Statesman survived at ground zero of a nuke?) All of our characters, despite being overamped incarnates who are at the defense softcap still do not have the magical immortality and longevity of Statesman (or Recluse for that matter). Our characters can die granted we have the revolving door of death with the reclamators in the hosps but we need those to keep going. Statesman didn't. He was there. He was the indestructible one, the one that could keep going no matter what.

    Now, he is gone.......

At least for now. Despite the mission dialogue stating that Statesman was beyond resuscitation, this is a comic book game and he is the mainstay character of the game. Who is to stay that stripping Darren Wade of the power he stripped from Statesman couldn't be used to revive Statesman? We don't know that, at least not yet. All we do know is that he is gone and the balance of power has now shifted.....

When one obtains vast power, one could likely become concerned as to what would happen if others gained the same or similar power level.

Also tapping the Well made Statesman an immortal, it is possible that he simply doesn't wish immortality on others so that they can live normal lives and not stay young forever while friends, comrades, family and loved ones all perish.

Pretty much, this. I suspect that those that wish they could pull the trigger on Statesman the character are wishing that it was Jack instead.

Statesman the character may have been aloof and detached, but he is/was eternally young a.k.a immortal. Everyone that he ever meets is, strictly speaking, already dead to him. He knew that barring some major catastrophe that he would still be around, conceivably even after the point where humans were extinct and Earth would belong to the cockroaches. The only other person that would be around with him at that point would be his equal/opposite: Lord Recluse.

Yes he found love and got married. That was rather brave considering he would inevitably outlive her, and outlive his daughter and grand-daughter.

So anyway, his immortality would alter his behavior and world view and if acted like he was emotionally detached or aloof it would be likely due to thinking of his immortality as a burden, not a boon.
  5. Gonna give this one a pass. Shiny picture, but same old stories of deus ex machina solutions from Data or Wesley, techno babble jibber jabber, and happy endings all the time.

Message from Star Fleet Command to Captain Jean Luc Picard:
"Captain Picard, we have reviewed all medical records and logs from your Chief Medical Officer and Counselor Troi. We agree that you are certified as fit to resume command of the Enterprise-D, despite being turned into a Borg, decimating the Federation fleet and nearly conquering Earth. Have a nice day!"

I hate the "if anyone screws up nobody gets the badge" badges for that reason. I have failed them more times due to someone else doing something completely avoidable and, frankly, dumb than through bad luck or a legitimate "oops."
This is precisely why I hate Green Stuff and LaC badges and have suggested in the past that the "league penalty" aspect be removed from them. Change it so the team that the person is on is affected not the whole league or else just change it so that only the person is affected. It's that person's error be it accidental or otherwise that cost the badge, let them suffer the lack of gaining a badge while others that can handle avoiding green patches or staying alive get the badges.

Just noticed it was female Ghost Rider.
Yep but I think that issue occurs before GR 9.

But with Marvel looking to cut its number of publications and a new GR movie coming out with Johnny Blaze, the writing was all but on the wall.
Both the current GR Series and Iron Man 2.0/War Machine were derailed by FEAR and pointless crossover issues. Also to me FEAR was a non event full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. THOR's "death" at the end of it is basically meaningless since Asgardians do not tend to stay dead and since he had a recent successful movie and with Avengers around the corner you know he's coming back fast (ish 12 I believe)

Also what is a shame about the impending end of the current GR series was that they had planned for Dan Ketch who is still a Rider to appear in it. But it's pretty obvious that Blaze will again be the Rider when the series is done. Too bad they can't find the right writer to give GR a good series.

Well "Chick Ghost Rider"'s series is ending with ish 9, it seems Marvel is cancelling many titles, but then some deserve it and the current Ghost Rider series is one of them. Despite the fact that "Chick Rider" is guest starring in some books prior to ish 9 and that Feb 2012 is the new GR movie, I suspect the series will end with Blaze recombining with the Rider again.
  11. Primary badger has been resting at 1303 for a few weeks since gaining MoKeyes. Secondary badge toon now also at 1303 having gained MoKeyes. Both units are now at rest pending new badges (yes even the new dayjobs in FW are done). Technically they are both actually at 1304 but due to the yearly vet badges not rewarding as they should be, they are 1303.

Also given the utter distaste I have for the keyes badges and given how long it took to obtain MoKeyes on both, I shall send no other alts into the keyes. My two MoKeyes toons shall run the trial to aid others and of course for the emps.

Sailor Moon, R, S, SuperS, Stars
    Tenchi Muyo OVAs
    90s X-Men
    Darkwing Duck
    Avatar the Last Airbender
    Superman TAS
    Batman TAS
    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Nice choices. I wouldn't mind seeing a release of the original 8-man anime series, subtitled only and not the HORRIFIC English dub. Also a re-release of 8-man after would be nice.

And the pages he was on, he displayed zero personallity was basically there to a set up for the Rider's appearance.
Yes the 70' series started to give more Rider and less Blaze. Then in the 90's GR series with Dan Ketch as the Rider, they started to make Blaze into an Easy Rider wannabe for awhile. Then they reset it to Blaze as the Rider a few years before the movie came out. The last GR comic series where they revealed the Rider is an agent of Heaven was mediocre and the current series that started with Blaze purging himself of the Rider isn't that great and is being canned as of issue 9.

Blaze for years in the comics has had the personality of oatmeal and from the last series to the current series the way he's written it looks like they shaved some IQ points off of him too. Granted he was never an Einstein, but the way the portray him now.....ick.

Depower Blaze for good as the Rider and restore Dan Ketch.

Just rewatched the trailer for the upcoming movie, the kid that Blaze is trying to save is named Danny..... hmmm

Pretty much this. MoKeyes badge runs have done a fantastic job of KO'ing my desire to get badges faster than a knockout punch from Mike Tyson.
  16. Well both my badgers were at 1300+ thanks to new holiday badges, now both have dinged the 4th and final First Ward DJ thus once again wrapping day jobs. Primary badger is complete until new badges, secondary badger is only missing MoKeyes....
  17. Hardest = Keyes Green Stuff and LaC badges penalize the whole league, perhaps instead it should penalize the team of the person that gets caught in the green or gets killed instead of the whole league?

    Easiest: Apex

From what I've read it's a "stand alone" in that it's not a sequel or a reboot. We allegedly get a new origin scene of Blaze making the deal with the devil, but regardless it is eight years after the first movie.

The first movies prime flaw was treating the Rider like he was Spiderman by giving him snappy one liners like when he grabbed the Earth elemental and said "Hey, dirtbag!" or when he faced the air elemental he said "Time to clear the air!"

This is GHOST RIDER, NOT SPIDER-MAN. Now this next movie looks like they are still going for PG-13 but judging by the action scenes they are going to push the boundaries of the PG 13 rating....that is GOOD.

    enjoy.
In the 70's Ghost Rider series, Blaze at first would automatically transform at night whether he wanted to or not. Then as the devil kept tormenting him, his powers would change so that he would auto-transform in the presence of "Evil" whether it was day or night. Soon after Blaze "Beat the devil" or at least thought he did for the rest of that series he quickly learned that he could transform at will into the Rider at any time. Eventually though the demon within him kept getting stronger and stronger and control was fading to the point where the Rider could force the transformation, but then so could Blaze.

Stan is the public face of Marvel. As to why Joe wasn't in Captain America, it is possible that:

    1. He wasn't asked, which would be kind of cold blooded imo.

    2. His health prevented him from being on camera.

There is special thanks to Joe, Jack and others in the credits of the movie.

In DC comics there are many alternate Earth's were Luthor is still evil but there is the one alternate where Luthor is on the side of good. Of course the flip side of that means that his version of Superman is evil.

Perhaps our Earth is the one Earth where Statesman truly is a good person?

Also while some may think Statesman is a jerk, remember he is immortal/eternally young. So to him, anyone he meets is essentially already dead to him as he is 99.9% likely to outlive them. immortality can be both blessing and curse and I suspect Statesman thinks it is more of a curse.
