Quote:Season 1 was funI guess I never watched Season 2 of G1 Transformers...reason I say this is simply because I do not remember that swanky entrance toon....
Second half of Season 2 was better then the first half of Season 2.
I liked most of Season 3 though some of the episodes like Carnage in C-minor were just terrible. But it was nice to see Rodimus try to develop into the new leader until the writers had him break down under the pressure not once, but three times.
1. Dark Awakening: Autobots pursued in space by Decepticons land in the Autobot Mausoleum and are rescued by Optimus Prime. Still showing all his battle damage from the movie and showing signs of mental confusion, yet Rodimus still eagerly rushes to him and gives him back the Matrix. Then he has to suck it up later in the episode and fight undead Optimus
2. Burden Hardest to Bear: now this one I liked. Yeah Rodimus is feeling the pains of leadership but this made more sense then Dark Awakening. In this ep Rodimus is feeling overly stressed and takes off only to lose the matrix due to a Stunticon ambush. He reverts to Hot Rod and refuses to seek out the Matrix and reclaim it. He gets some sage advice from a Sensei and then sees what the Matrix did to Scourge and reclaims it. (likely the Matrix deliberately enhanced Scourge to test Hot Rod/Rodimus)
3. Return of Optimus Prime part 1: Rodimus is still feeling the blues about being leader and is tormented by dreams of Optimus and thinks he is not ever going to be the leader Optimus ever was. (more likely these were warnings from the Matrix that Optimus could still be alive). He comes up with a good plan to get Optimus' body from the crazy scientists but didn't take into account the fact that the daughter of the scientists was sympathetic to the Autobots and thus altered the trap to release the plague. So Rodimus leaves with her and Optimus' body and the plague is now spreading. Instead of seeking a way to fight the plague or realizing that the Matrix carries the answers he instead focuses on having Wreck_Gar diagnosing Optimus and after Wreck-Gar says "He's dead, Jim" (nice!) Rodimus then realizes the Quintessons can revive him again like before. Ah well, at least he was smart enough to shut down Metroplex's brain to make sure that the giant city/robot didn't get hit with the plague before becoming infected himself. Ah well, all plot holes and logic errors can simply resolved by this one mantra "Hasbro wanted Optimus Prime BACK" -

Quote:Yeah. As I recall the medical tech in Dredd's world can slow aging and I think somewhat reverse it, but Dredd is now late 60's if not 70 years old. He's still tough and I wouldn't want him after me, but the creator, writers and editors must have something planned in the future to deal with Dredd's age and the fact that he is mortal.Wow. I read the original story with the Dark Judges. Should be very interesting with Dredd so advanced in years....
S.
1. He's too popular and too much of a cash cow to kill off for good.
2. They have ample supply of the DNA from Fargo that helped make Dredd as shown by the "clone brothers" Dredd has. There was the original Rico that Dredd had to stop, then a new brother adopted the name Rico to redeem it. There was a clone brother that showed an extreme independence of thought and didn't want to be something churned out on an assembly line and opted to NOT be a Judge. Before he left the Judges, his face and skin were completely reworked so that he looked nothing like Dredd.
So could they:
1. make a new clone that takes the name Dredd to carry on the name?
2. make a new clone and program it's brain with all of Dredd's memories and experience thus it would be a literal copy of Dredd?
3. clone a young body and transplant Dredd's brain into it?
4. fountain of youth or something that restores Dredd's youth?
5. be brave (stupid) and end the Dredd franchise? -
Quote:Perhaps JMS or Whedon should helm Star Trek? Could be interesting to say the least.I didn't necessarily say that either. To be honest I don't really have anyone specific in mind right now who would be the perfect "caretaker" for the franchise. As we all know the fans will probably never accept any one single person's vision 100% anyway.
For what it's worth I do think Abrams is an accomplished and competent film maker - I simply think he lacks the detailed knowledge and understanding a person who's been devoted to this specific franchise for years would have. Perhaps if he were willing to work with other people who could provide him that detail he lacks his next Star Trek movies won't look so "outsiderish". It's not that I hated the last movie - it's just that it came off a bit like a movie about motorcycles produced by a person who's great at making movies in general but who has never ridden a motorcycle himself, if that makes any sense. -
As long as the Lizard doesn't eat Connor's son in the movie.....when that line was crossed in the comics I was rather appalled.

Looks like an extra end credits scene gets added to the movie for U.S. release.

The spin off article contains links to the scene, it doesn't appear to be a hint for the next Marvel movie as that is what the FIRST credits scene does. -
Quote:My job took me overseas last week and before I went home I made a detour on the way to the airport and saw the Avengers.*sigh* Without watching or reading spoilers, I can make a guess on who Whedon's going to kill off. I'm actually getting a bit sick of expecting that from him. He's turning into a variant of M. Night "What a TWIST!" Shamalamadingdong.
I think I'm pretty much over the whole Whedon thing.
Yes, someone does die. I won't say who as I don't want to drop spoilers, but I don't think the death ranks down there with M. Night Plot Twist
Toss me a PM if you want to know who it is. -
Quote:John Carter wasn't that bad actually. A bit more editing in a few places, better marketing and some people being a bit more educated on the character's literary history before seeing the movie would have helped. If it does turn out to be the hit of the year, it might just let Disney pretend that John Carter never happened
Also related to that, it seems that Disney have had the sense to buy Marvel and just let them get on with it, instead of trying to add their own style to the brand. -
Quote:Would you rather have Berman and Braga still running the show? You realize that by extension you are pretty much saying you will never watch another new Star Trek movie again, ever, regardless of who makes it. Unless you know of a way to bring Roddenberry back from the dead any new Star Trek that's -ever- going to be made in the future is going to have to be made by someone else. Imagine where we'd be if people had decided to stop producing Shakespeare plays after his death just because he wasn't around to supervise them.
Now I'll be the first to tell you that I think Abrams has made some serious blunders with the franchise and it's very clear he doesn't have a completely firm grasp on what he's doing with it. He's a skilled movie maker but he's almost completely clueless about the historical details of Star Trek. It's a weird scenario, but for all Abrams' faults there are some good things buried in his mess and for the sake of getting to enjoy newly created Star Trek material I'm going to continue to give him a chance.
I look at it this way: Even if Abrams is not the perfect caretaker for the franchise he's at least carrying the torch right now for future storytellers. Perhaps someday someone better will be able to take over who'll benefit from Abrams' current efforts of keeping the franchise alive. -
Quote:Indeed, if this is a divergent timeline and the old timeline exists, then if Spock Prime wants to return to where....or should I say "WHEN" he belongs, then all he needs to do is go to the Guardian of Forever. It should surely be able to lock onto the proper timeline and send him home. The new time line didn't destroy the old time line. Star Trek has always had multiple time lines. Mirrored Universe is like a fan favorite.
Also I've theorized before that if they had wanted to undo that stupid death Kirk had in Generations that the Guardian of Forever is the best tool for that job too. Spock could scan the time frame of Kirk's fight with Soran and then figure out when to step in and phaser blast Soran. They then safely stop the missile and Kirk lives. But way too late for that now, unless they decide to CGI de-age and slim down Shatner. -
Quote:One wonders if the "All-knowing" "all seeing" Q have noted the time change from the last movie. One would think that such an event would garner their attention.Yeah I suppose they could do some kind of revamped Squire of Gathos based movie. The idea could be expanded so that it was more like a pseudo-Matrix environment where the Q villain tricked them into believing all sorts of things either good or bad.
Maybe this could be blended with the TOS episodes "Shore Leave", "Arena" and/or "The Gamesters of Triskelion" where the Q behind the illusions use them to entertain themselves at the expense of Kirk and company. With that it could be sort of a commentary on the evils of reality TV and/or what happens when you lose your self control. -
Quote:If I understand the nu-Trek timeline, the Enterprise was only just constructed in the movie hence it couldn't have gone to Talos 4 at all.The problem with adapting The Menagerie to the JJTrek universe is that they've already significantly changed the history/fate of Captain Pike. Yes they got him into a wheelchair by the end of the last movie. But I honestly don't see Nu-Spock caring much about breaking the law to get Pike to Talos IV (especially after Vulcan just went boom) or even that the Enterprise would have gone to Talos IV in the new timeline years earlier to begin with.
Basically they'd have to rewrite the whole premise into some generic version like the Enterprise is sent on patrol and runs across this weird planet where the kooky aliens kidnap Kirk and crew and mind-trick them into kinky snu-snu for breeding purposes.
Sure I totally get the idea about creating an excuse to get Uhura to strip down to her underwear again. I'm just not sure the rest of the movie would be worth seeing if that was the main goal.
But at least Kirk shouldn't perish on Veridian 3 in the future of this new timeline. -
Quote:Perhaps an adaptation of the Squire of Gothos? We never knew what race he was from, until Peter David' TNG novel Q-Squared revealed he was an adolescent Q and the Q that we all love to hate is both his mentor and secretly his father. The Ultimate Computer was a great TOS episode, but sadly I think too many people would somehow think a new movie based on it today would be some kind of rip-off of the HAL 9000 idea from 2001: A Space Odyssey. The only way the Star Trek episode got away with it was that it aired about a month before 2001 hit the theaters back in 1968.

Quote:The Dolph Master of the Universe movie has been classified under Chapter 13 of the Geek Code, under section 8, paragraph 11. You can find it indexed under W.W.N.S.O.T.I hope they take it further and come out with a movie! Anything to overwrite the memory of that 1987 disaster that I cant shake :|

Quote:Let the enemy subs merge into a giant nemesis! My pals and their 5 giant robot Lions are ready to defend us!They're going to innundate us with these raids until we stop responding (or less people do), thus "wearing down defenses..."
Then... they'll hit us with one more... during the Central Time Zone dinner hour...
And then the subs (note the plural) will rise up out of the water.
Aand then... said subs will transform into giant Fake Nemesi...
Aaand then...
The REAL Nemesis will appear...

Quote:Hm, perhaps the M5 computer?I think Roddenberry himself said that Balance of Terror was basically the space version of those old classic WWII movies where you had the surface destroyer playing out a cat-n-mouse duel with a submarine. While it's a good dramatic scenario I agree it would be kind of hard to make that work for two hours in a movie made in 2012. I don't think general audiences today have enough attention span to accept the inherent slow/silent periods in that situation.
If I were borrowing from an old TOS episode I'd personally go with The Enterprise Incident. You could have some Mission Impossible styled futuristic spy action and some intrigue when you got Uhura jealous over Spock making some mission related sexy-time with a hot Romulan Commander. This might not be the best idea for the very next movie (especially considering what PRAF68_EU said about overdosing on Romulans lately) but maybe this would work for another movie a few years from now. -
Quote:Perhaps you're right. Well as long as they don't decide to base a movie on the Spock's Brain episode.....Balance of Terror worked well because it was a short. I don't think it has enough stuff happening for a full length movie. Not unless you expanded the Romulan side of the tale, which would have the problem of not featuring your main cast members.
And the other thing the execs would want is interaction between hero and villain. BoT works so well by paralleling events on both ships, with minimal interaction between the two.
Oh, and we had Romulans in the last movie, I doubt they would want them again. -
Quote:V'ger was basically the Nomad probe on a larger scale. You actually bring up a good point here. It's hard to imagine a new Trek movie being made where the "main bad guy" is not an actual person.
As cool as it might be to see a new movie where they have to defeat a Doomsday Machine or some other non-human sci-fi threat I don't think today's movie makers would risk making a movie without an actual "evil villain" that Kirk and company can face eye-to-eye. That's probably why the first Star Trek movie didn't do so well because it was hard for general audiences to accept an "enemy" they couldn't really see as a clearly defined bad guy.
As to Khan gaining control of the Doomsday Machine, that would be similar to the TNG novel VENDETTA, that gave us the Doomsday Machine model 2, about 4 times the size with 10 times the fire power and it was found, activated and controlled by a member of Guinan's people. She wanted vengeance on the Borg and it turns out the machines were made to destroy the Borg. What Kirk stopped was a prototype on automatic pilot, this other model was far deadlier.
Perhaps another idea for a Trek movie would be to expand upon the episode Balance of Terror where the Romulans were testing their new cloak and plasma torpedoes. -

Current projections now show that this weekend the Avengers should surpass the $500 million mark (world wide) and keep on going.

That proc is best used in Stamina/Quick Recovery/Physical Perfection/Kheldian transformation powers.
