Are you serious? He was six 2 days ago...and he's posting pics of a 50 he made in two days?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Yes I am serious.
Some folks just don't have the time or circumstances to get to 50 in AE in two hours like so many others do. So he took two days. Either way, in those two days AE messed him up, as it does to all the new players, he learned nothing and has come to the boards with an open mind.

He's not the first new player to think the whole game takes place in a building in Atlas Park. Sadly, he wont be the last.

But at least he came here wanting and willing to learn.

You seem to believe that if a person comes to the boards, asking about what missions to do, and sewer teams, then takes two days to get to 50 in AE can only mean, unequivocally, that the player is a troll and does in fact know what he is doing.

I think that is possible. I also think its possible that a new player can come to the game and level up dozens of toons to 50 in AE and have not one clue as to what an SO is, or that there are zones outside Atlas.

It is important to the game's future to help the new players so they'll feel like sticking around and paying that monthly subscription. Making accusations base on opinion rather then facts would make a much better deterrent then a welcome mat.

oh i thought that slots were level ups for the powers...i see now, enhancements are complicated though cause its hard to figure out how to buy them from the westworth place, i look for the ones tat are for sale only, and i cant figure out how to buy it and put it in my enhancement inventory :LS

    [/ QUOTE ]

Az, what server are you on? I'm sorry that AE has messed you up so bad. But in your defense, its not your fault. AE makes it too easy to crank out a toon while not learning a thing about how the game systems work.

Sadly, your current build is a little over slotted in some places and under slotted in others. A respec is in order. However, in the age of AE, I can't help but think a Respec Trial is not going to happen any time soon.

I think your best bet is to visit the Blaster Forums and view some of the builds they have there. Ask questions about Energy/Energy blaster builds to help you work out an idea of how to build your toon.

You dont need to build your toon exactly like someone else's but there are some things you should keep in mind. Like no more then three slots in stamina. Usually only one slot in swift, but no more then 3.

Personally, (and I know this is not going to be a popular idea) I think you should reroll, and start from scratch. Play each level with actual game content and NO AE. This will help you learn how to use your powers, and figure what kind of circumstances work best for what kind of attacks, and what enhancements to buy. There are stores to buy enhancements other then Wentworths. Some are origin specific meaning they sell enhancements specifically for your origin.

It is common to pick up only one travel power. Picking up two travel powers means four power choices are used up to acquire travel powers as opposed to two power choices being used for one travel power. But it is not wrong to pick up two travel powers. If that is what you want, and you don't mind the sacrifice to attack powers for extra travel powers there really is nothing wrong with it.

There are some great tools available to help you with your planning a build. The two better ones (in my opinion) are here. Mids is a download you can run. Its the best one, but can be confusing for a new user, once you get the hang of it, its great. The other, SuckerPunch's is good too, its online. It great for the casual player who just wants to make a plan and is not concerned about the actual numbers. Its a little more friendly for casual players but lacks the finer details the hardcore folks like.

Get blaster folks to 'critique' a build for you. Let them help you come up with a decent build. Then either respec or reroll.

    Few questions

    [ QUOTE ]
i have been trying missions and it is SO HARD! i though this game was for little kids lol! should i just kill random mobs in atlas city to level up?

    [/ QUOTE ]
You didn't notice the Teen Rating on the box, (or on the website if you didnt by the box)?

I found missions give better xp over time then mobs in the streets. Its because the mobs in the missions are are all around your level, then there is the mission complete bonus xp at the end of each mission. Street mob levels vary, so the xp over time tends to be much, less.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Yes, this is a serious question.

I read frequently about various players spending 100's of millions of influence for io sets and purple sets. I am wondering why.

I tend to buy some of the cheaper sets on my characters that reach 50 if I think there is any chance I may want to keep playing them. With the modest amount of time and influence I spend on this, I can do every task force, Hamidon and typical mission assignments. Thus my question...what am I missing?

I can think of only two reasons. The first is PvP. I have never done PvP and do not intend to do so. If this is a reason, I am not really missing anything.

The second reason is just to be the best you can possibly be. I understand this but just don't really care that much for my characters. I want them to be playable and able to contribute but that is all I need.

    Am I missing something else?

Thanks for taking this seriously. No offense is meant, no trolling is meant.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    You're not missing anything.
You're just not the "Gotta max my toon to the MAX" or "PvP Maxer" type.

I don't PvP. But I do get IO sets. I have scrappers and brutes that teammates ask, "Why are you not dead?" when there is an epic team wipe, that I manage to survive. IO sets make that possible.
(NOTE: IO Sets will not ensure you are indestructible. Just that when I do manage to survive that which wipes the rest of the team, its because of the set bonuses from the IOs) Its fun for me to remain standing when the tank and other scrappers are looking at the Big Red Button.

Guess I've become a "Max my toon to the MAX" type.

But just because this sort of game play does nothing for you, it does not mean your missing something. If everybody enjoyed all the same things, there'd only be one flavour of ice cream!

    [/ QUOTE ]

It has not been released yet. We're expecting to see all the changes (up to and including I15 changes) soon.

I hate to say this, but please read the thread or post fully before responding. This had already been answered in the thread.

This doesn't mean THE MAN THAT MADE IT SHOULD NOT GET CREDIT. NCsoft made a profit off of his work and he should be rewarded. simple as that.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Incorrect. NCSoft made not one single cent off mids work. NCSoft ran for a couple of years before there ever was a Mids Hero Planner. NCSoft's profits existed before Mids Hero Planner.

However, Mid surely did make a very useful tool for us to plan our characters with. I personally am very challenged to build a toon without the planner. Mid certainly does deserve credit for his work. No one is disputing that.

I was thinking when a hero or villain draws out his/her sword or gun where does it come from??? I was wondering why dont they have a holster or something to put there weapons into and so its visible. there can be different holster costume parts and ect. if you don't like the holster idea please think about making weapons visible on either the characters back or waist (should have choice based on player).

    Think about this!!

    Thanks for the quick reply.
If this is working as intended, then what is the purpose of level slider?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Buying SOs, for example.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Ah, I see.
The slider is actually for the enhancements

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not completely. As said above it also determines what recipes are available in a given roll. Say you are lv50, and set your slider to 36-40, and you roll two times, getting a Miracle, and a Crushing Impact. The miracle will be lv 40 (since that is the max level of that set), the Crushing Impact will be lv 50 (since that sets goes to 50 and that is your level). If you would have put the slider to 46-50, you'd never have a shot at the Miracle, since that sets only goes to 40.

    [/ QUOTE ]
So I guess the next question is:
Does the slider actually give you a shot at lower level stuff. So far, in about 8 tries with my level 47-50 brute and 8 tries with my level 45 MM, I've only received recipes withing 5 levels of my characters. Nothing in the 30-34 range.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Ah, I see.
The slider is actually for the enhancements, not for the Recipes. It is a little misleading because when you change the slider it changes the stuff available in recipe rolls. Would have been nice if they had the slider only effect the enhancements and not do anything for the recipes.
    Ah well.
  11. I ran the new 5th Column SF villain side last night and all the maps were shockingly laggy. I've been on AE maps where, on a full team of 8, a room is filled wall-to-wall with Freaks, and a tidal wave of ambushes are triggered with little to no lag issues.

The SF was so laggy I had to stop and bring all my in-game video settings to the lowest possible settings. That helped a bit.
  12. NeoSporin

    Ticket Bug?

    [ QUOTE ]
Working as intended, unfortunately. The level slider affects only what recipes are available to be chosen; once chosen the recipes awarded will be at your level, or their max level, whichever is less. Drives me berserk but there you have it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Thanks for the quick reply.
If this is working as intended, then what is the purpose of level slider?

Seems to me that if you are going to get stuff at your level regardless of the level slider, then the slider is not really showing stuff that is actually available. Because stuff below your level is not available. Seems that all they need is a button for gold rolls, no level slider.
  13. NeoSporin

    Ticket Bug?

I've tried searching to see if this has been posted yet, and I'm sure it must have been. I can't find anything on it tho.

When I'm using my tickets to buy gold rolls, I use the level slider to select level 30 recipes, and then click on the button to purchase level 30-34 gold rolls, I get level 40-45. This is on my level 45 MM.

On my level 50 brute, I get level 50 recipes even though I specified level 30 recipes with the slider, and clicked on the level 30-34 button.

Is this a known bug, and if so, anyone know if the Dev's have mentioned anything regarding it?

Firstly, thanks all for not flaming me.

Read a few good ideas. Being able to turn off the e-mail system would be a good idea, then, when a spammer sends a message to you, they would get a message, "That Global Address has E-Mail turned off". Or, the Global e-mail system can be tied to your global friends list, thus only your global friends can send you e-mails. Or even have an e-mail filtering system, which would be the best option, with clickable options like:

    1. Open E-Mail ( )
    2. Closed E-Mail ( )
    3. Global Friends ( )
    4. Server Friends ( )
    5. SG Members ( )

This would most likely completely remove the in-game spamming. This way, the players could pick and choose those groups of players that can send them e-mails.

With this option, and the trial account limitations, it would be very difficult for the spammers to bother us. Just a thought!
    KP

    [/ QUOTE ]
You see, I quite agree with the option of a filter system like this. I've been on-record here with that opinion for quite a while.

I'm not sure if I'd like for the spammers to know who they can and cannot spam though. If they waste time trying to spam people who have opted out, that's time wasted for them, unable to spam those that can recieve thier message.
I'm in favor of anything that effects the RMT'ers with the minimum effect possible on the legitimate users.

    Here's an example:
My friend asked me to review his MA arc.
It was a lengthy arc with horrible grammar throughout, one poor choice of map and a few oddly-named NPCs. In order to corral all the things that needed to be fixed, I had to send 4 short-to-medium Emails.
Had his only way of avoiding RMTmail been to opt completely out of all Emails, I would have been unable to help him.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    A valid point.
Something I do with friends online is use real e-mail.
But because I am somewhat cautious, I created an e-mail account with HotMail using one of my character's names.

I give this only to CoH player friends. That keeps my real world e-mail separate from my CoH friends, and helps eliminate any potential problem people.

My friends and I share info vial real e-mail using our CoH toon accounts. Its pretty groovy, and we never have to use the infected, infested in-game e-mail system.

    auto powers

    [ QUOTE ]
dang they really should add more than one -_-

    [/ QUOTE ]
Many many moons ago, the devs mentioned that they would never allow more then one power being put on auto. Their reasoning was to prevent players from making bots.

This is a good line of thinking, cuz if players could make bots, they would, then the RMT rats would have an easier time making inf to spam us about.

/hidesearch really cut down the amount of spam I get, I get 2-3 pieces on a character now and then.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Hiding from the search menu really does help, to an extent.
I've noticed that characters that I've put down as hiding from search (as soon as they are created) don't get added to the spammers' "mailing lists".
Once they start getting spammed, it's too late.
    YMMV.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is an effective method to avoid/reduce the e-mail spam. My only problem with this little work-around is that it also eliminates another aspect to getting on teams. (Note: I'm not saying its impossible to find teams doing this, I'm saying its subtracts from a player's tools one means to getting on teams)

    [ QUOTE ]
Not that NCSoft is B.S.ing us about it, I know they really want to stop the RMT spammers, its just that their measures are totally ineffective.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not totally ineffective. You obviously arrived after the period where spammers were constantly sending tells to everyone.

The simple fact is that there is no way to completely eliminate in game email spam without removing the email system. There have been various measures added over time to make spamming more difficult, but the only truly effective way to eliminate spam is to close the game. Most spamming accounts don't last all that long, but as long as new players are allowed to sign up for full accounts using a credit or game card and the game is perceived as viable by the outside world there will be spammers.

    [/ QUOTE ]
We are talking about the in-game e-mail system. The OP wasn't talking about RMT Tells. So, not really so obvious. I've been here since long before there was RMT in the game.

The measures NCSoft has taken against tells in game has definitely been very effective. The measures for the in game e-mail system, not so much. (And I'm not faulting NCSoft for it. I recognize that this particular problem is an adaptive and persistent problem)

That "there is no way to completely eliminate in game email spam without removing the email system" well no one is disputing that.
  19. You can save yer self some time and effort by not bothering to delete the names in the global ignore list. I know this is hardly the kind of answer yer looking for.

But if you think about it... the system for the global list will automatically delete the names in the global ignore list for you. Once the list is full, the oldest one gets deleted to make room for the newest one. So why bother doing it manually?

Personally, I've entirely given up on in-game e-mail. I just let it pile up. I'm currently playing a little game with it. Seeing how many I can accumulate.

I know some folks might get annoyed that I would not bother to report the spammers, but honestly, the measures taken by NCSoft to deal with them would make for an episode on Penn & Teller: B.S.

Not that NCSoft is B.S.ing us about it, I know they really want to stop the RMT spammers, its just that their measures are totally ineffective.

Yet another bug caught by players in beta and reported that was allowed to go live - and still is a bug.

This is another example of why I don't bother testing and reporting on Beta because I feel that my work does not yield the desired result of catching bugs in beta testing - is there another reason for reporting bug in beta other than the DEVS fixing them before they go live?
Are we really supposed to feel excited about playing a beta and reporting bugs if they go live and continue to be issues long after going live?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Something you need to keep in mind is, once a new issue is released on the test server for closed or open beta, the development team cannot sit back and wait for something to do. There is always something to do. It never ends.

Perhaps your perception is shaped by the occurrence of bugs that manage to snag your attention that have gone unresolved from beta to live. But the many bugs that where caught by other Beta testers that where addressed and resolved before going live where bugs you did not notice. One can see and understand how one’s perception might be skewed to believing that reporting bugs is simply useless.

Fact is, bugs are not addressed on a first come, first served, basis. There is a priority list and most probably a system of weight to determine what priority to assign any given bug. Some bugs make it live simply because other more game breaking bugs where higher on the priority list.

Now some folks might feel that the priorities are out of order. Lets say a gripe that fixing a animation over the chat text issue is a bad call on priority. Maybe so, but it’s a different programmer working on the animation then the chat issues. When you are having problems with the electrical, you don’t ask the plumber to work on it just because you feel the electrical is currently more important. (Not saying this is what your doing. I'm just saying this for anyone who disagrees with the prioritizing)

Take a read through the threads regarding feedback and bug reporting’s on issue 15. Many bugs have been reported and corrected while still in beta. The Devs do pay attention to the bug reports. They just can’t fix every single bug before going live.
