Quote:simply not true, the vast majority of his stories have had long life spans and usage in comics after he wrote them.Morrison needs to be thrown under a bus and left there till he gets brain damaged and maybe that'll cure him of his stupid writing. Seriously, doesn't he get that every single one of his stories gets retconned nearly as soon as he leaves the book.
As far as the "new design" it's just going back to the late 90s batman look, but better...
And as far as the emblem... it's there for a reason... to save bruce money and his overall life. He uses it to draw attention there so that people shoot there and he wears extra kevlar there so that it is much easier to survive.
even ones that were not meant to be in continuity have often been pulled into continuity, such as Marvel Boy,or Doom Patrol for instance.
about the only thing i can think of that got retconed soon after he wrote it was Magneto's death. -
looks promising.
seems like they pretty much abandoned the doctor Blake though.can't say i am thrilled about that, though i am not really feeling all that rigid about it either. -
Quote:this remains my assessment of elm/sd leveling.normal leveling up till 37,when both nukes are fully slotted.
after that amazing.harvest lucks and go to town nuking everything in sight.i went from 37-40 in a flash, nuking freaks in crey's folly.after that i did eight man missions against carnival of shadows(though i did keep bosses turned off).was shocked when i got the illusionist badge so fast, had to go back and do the rest of the prerequisite's for the archmage accolade.
nothing special one way or the other early on,but mid thirties on should go in a flash -
lots of good advice so far.
one very useful thing though is proper inspiration management.lucks will stack with your def so always try to keep as many as possible on hand.pop the reds, yellows, oranges, and status protections as fast as you get them, you want to leave as much room of lucks as you can.
greens and blues are a different matter,it is nice to have a few for a rainy day.all the same though early proactive use of a luck can save you the need to pop a lot of greens.
try to lead into a fight with parry.it may not be the flashiest damage, but while it is helping protect you from their return fire, the rest of you high damage attacks can be used to hammer them down.sometimes you may want to pop a luck before you engage also,by the time it wears off you should have thinned the mobs enough that leftover damage will not be a problem
know your foes.a lot of the swords and guns debuff defense, this can sometimes lead to a cascading failure.it may be worth your time to focus on killing a lot of minions fast instead of taking down the boss first.and the crystalline devouring earth that place the emenators?those guys debuff your defense very badly, either avoid them or take them out fast. -
Quote:you realize that AAO just lets you do more damage right?a /sd scrapper still does as much damage as a /sr scrapper even without AAO running.Believe me, I KNOW that there exist lots of elec/shield scrappers, I just don't wanna be one of them, at least not now. The reason I want it not to be /shield is because so many players use that combo and because I don't really consider /shield so "fast", because of the needed AAD that needs you to be in a group, surrounded by enemies, before you should use the alpha strikes (Lightning Rod and Shield Charge). My idea with this toon is to experience the rush of crushing down in an unexepcted mob with full power, totally destroying any threat around me.
And btw, I've always wondered if LR works with Critical Hit, does it?
at any rate regen and willpower will do better at keeping your end bar full.SR will help you get LR up a bit faster(and no it does not crit). -
i personally would recommend claws/sr of the two options, but only because i think DM is better paired with SD.SD goes a long way towards making up for DM's lack of AOE.
-
i think the attempt to set super heroes into COX game mechanics is pretty silly for the most part.when it come to melee, comics tends to have two main categories (with admittedly some exceptions).fast/acrobatic sorts that can not be hit,but do less then epic damage.and big guys that can be hit(but it does not hurt them),who do epic damage.thus the two can fight because the fast/agile guy can not hurt the big guy, just hit him.meanwhile the big guys can not hit the fast agile guy(though boy it would sure hurt if he could).
thanks to both forces being thus nerfed into an often oddly visually and narratively satisfying uselessness, they do not have to waste to much effort inventing new characters or telling resurrection stories. -
Quote:not i,then again i finally broke down and made a sd/ss tanker for the sole purpose of skranking with him.Like I said. Not against it from a numbers perspective. It was to all those who want it for concept. Yeah...they want it for numbers...and they lie when they say otherwise.
i already have a level 50 tank, did not really want another.i generally prefer playing scrappers, but sadly the option was not available.fortunately between AAO and rage he feels close enough to pass muster.
thought of making a brute, but i do not much care for the COV setting, and brutes annoy me in the early levels. -
i run the freak map from the "to save a thousand worlds" arc.set to 8 players,no bosses, even level.
my ELM/SD is soft capped, has all of it's 5% recharge bonuses, and all of it's LOTG's,and two purple sets for the 10% recharge bonuses.
i double nuke each time.it is mostly overkill.most of the damage is wasted, but on the off chance the random number generator spares a mob one of the nuke hits,it will be weakened to the edge of death.
if the mobs are spread out a bit farther apart, the nukes will recharge right as the group swarms me.if they are close together then i will have a chance to get in about two hits before they recharge.the nukes do so much damage that the only reason i even bother to attack is to get the forced feedback proc to fire.
seems fast as all hell to me. -
Quote:i swear,it is like this whole reply was ripped straight out of my brainIt's a major pet peeve of mine when people say that powersets wouldn't be good if they didnt have (insert power). Yes, of course elec/shield relies on LR+SC. That's the whole reason anyone makes an elec/shield. By the same reasoning, you could say spines relies too much on Spine Burst and Throw Spines.
FYI, with shield's strong taunt aura, and herding, thunderstrike will hit plenty. The taunt aura keeps them from spreading out too much. -
soft cap defense+ a self heal+ a nuke=amazing survivability in my experience.
-
Quote:very true, good resource management can take a person far in this game.I've hit level 50 with my elm/sd days ago and I'm still not softcapped to melee. Soloing any kind of content just fine on +3/x8 because insps just drop so fast.
Ok, by that point I might start sounding like a broken record as pretty much one out of every two posts I make here is basically "inspirations are great", but, well, it's because inspirations are that great, and I think it's a shame the conventional advice for shield seems to be "ignore unless you've got 1 bill to spend" as it's a fantastic powerset on SOs in my opinion.
once you are one small luck away from the softcap, you can accomplish a lot.certainly more then enough to keep you going till you earn the scratch you need. -
i have a Dm/SD and a DM/SR.i have to say that the the DM/SD has made my DM/SR feel damn near unplayable.i just miss the added damage and aoe to damn much to combine DM with anything else ever again.
-
-
just thought that i would pipe in and say that either of the swords works very well with SD.the melee defense in parry stacks nicely with the melee positional defense in shield, and can make for a very smooth leveling experience.the set also has very solid aoe
as an added bonus their are lots of fun sword and shield costume combo options.
dark melee can also be a very smooth leveler with SD,though much weaker in aoe.the heal is mighty sweet, and covers for SD's only real drawback as a set.while SD helps a lot to take the edge off of DM's lack of aoe,it still feels like it lags behind other SD sets quite a bit.i would have to say that it can be one of the most survivable SD combo's of them all. -
Quote:normal leveling up till 37,when both nukes are fully slotted.Maybe I should look into one of these, then. I'm enjoying my Katana/Dark kill speed in groups compared to all my single-target specialists, but from the Cats Hour Challenge 2, I know that true farmers kill almost three times faster than me. Hell, BillZBubba's Claws/Super Reflexes kills over twice as fast as me, if I recall. I have a Spines/Dark stalled out at 44 because I somehow just can't get into it. I can't seem to get into other archetypes either, so I don't see myself picking up a Fire/Kin. Maybe I need an Electric Melee/Shield Defense. It might be nice to actually own a farmer for once. How's it for leveling up?
after that amazing.harvest lucks and go to town nuking everything in sight.i went from 37-40 in a flash, nuking freaks in crey's folly.after that i did eight man missions against carnival of shadows(though i did keep bosses turned off).was shocked when i got the illusionist badge so fast, had to go back and do the rest of the prerequisite's for the archmage accolade. -
Quote:well i could see it for exemping,as i do not do much of that myself.Parry I'm keeping around for when I need the extra defense either due to debuffs or exemping (I know, I could buy lower level IO's, I just don't want to
). Recall Friend is mostly there as a holder for BotZ so replacing it with SS would be ok (ignoring for a second the need to get hasten in somewhere) except that overall I find Recall Friend to be a more useful power since I can generally get away with just running through the mission and relying on speed and defense in place of stealth.
but for 50+ i have found that i have not missed parry a bit since dropping it.SS makes a fine place holder for Botz, and the extra nuking thanks to hasten is most welcome. -
i am currently farming with my EM/SD.outdoor freakshow map set to 8 with no bosses.buildup, both nukes and everything is dead.
i then move to the second group and lightningclap them(1 acc,1 forced feedback proc).they usually have un-stunned and swarmed around me again right as the rezed from the last group show up and my nukes recharge.then the vicious cycle begins anew. -
i would say drop parry and recall friend, get hasten and super speed instead.that way you can get sheild charge up more often and you have a bit more PVE invisibility.

Quote:his will was not broken with Coast City's destruction, his sense of perspective was.You mean in the comics lately? I don't know. Haven't had the money for comics recently.
That's part of what doesn't make it work for me and why I've brought up the losses of other heroes. If Hal is all about willpower, then how is it that his will was broken after Coast City when other heroes endured? I mean, should the Guardians have chosen Tim Drake instead?
without a rational perspective, his will became the problem. -
Quote:er,you do not prepare for crap that a person could never reasonably be expected to deal with rationally, but if it happens you just do not go crazy? What comes with the job as a Green Lantern is life and death on a galactic scale. You don't really prepare for it. You just don't flip out and try to set yourself up as god if you fail.
In comics, we have a term for those who use personal tragedy as justification to become arbiters of life and death. It's "villains."
and in reality we have terms like psychotic break due to extreme emotional distress. -
Quote:to your first statement,i can thing of one story besides tower of babel where the issue came up.the JLA story where Oracle is trying to save them while the universe is falling apart, and is ordered to stop wasting time trying to save one mans parents and get back to the job of saving the universe. There have been multiple occasions when the Waynes were brought back or the possibility came up, and it always ends up showing the world being a better place for their deaths, because it would be worse without Batman.
Not really, because there's the question of where to stop. Who gets to say whose tragedy is more deserving of rectifying? And what gives that person more of a right than anyone else to say so?
the tower of babel has Ras trying to bribe Batman with them after first using them as a distraction.Batman makes the right choice of course.then again Batman has had some time to,if not come to piece with their death,at least accept it as a reality.
your second point is entirely true of course.then again the whole point of the Emerald twilight story is that Hal is in no psychological shape to deal with that sort of acceptance of the natural order. -
Quote:well again,my first statement was regarding the storyline of emerald twilight and not the storyline of zero hour.being lumped together in continuity does lump them together as a single story. There's still that step between Coast City getting destroyed and Hal supposedly creating a perfect new universe where he has to destroy everything.
Hal was a cop that was supposed to know what came with the job. Only instead of redoubling his efforts to make sure the tragedy doesn't happen to anyone else, he sets out to make sure it happens to everyone else.
Going back to what I said earlier in the thread, there are tons of heroes who have lost far more and reacted far less rashly.
and i am sorry, but "he is a cop,he should know what comes with the job" is crap.what, like signing up for a job means you are prepared for any emotional catastrophe that could come with it?utter nonsense.if a cop had his family killed in front of him by a vengeful criminal, would you just tell him to suck it up?"hey.you should have known this sort of thing might happen"?how the hell do you prepare for losing your hometown and protectorate?
as for the "tons of heroes",even if true,so what?some fictional characters were written differently by different writers, who cares?
even then John Stewart lost a planet under his protection and became suicidally depressed for a while.if i recall right Martian Manhunter cracked up and was shapeshifting parts of his body to resemble his dead family while self deluded into thinking they were still alive.
if starfire has not suffered comparable emotional turmoil,it may just be that she was rather poorly written.then again maybe her species due to cultural or physiological reasons is incapable of clinical depression and extreme psychological dysfunction.
and Superman?the guy lost his family and world before he could form memories.i can understand the guy being interested in his heritage,of honoring his roots.but should he even remotely be experiencing emotional trauma for deaths he did not experience and can not recollect?i doubt it. -
my guess is they get resurrected, along with the population of Coast City.
