Quote:They are waiting to see how 'profitable' this model is.If they were truly giving us a choice they would commit to offering the costumes and black wolf pet for a straight out purchase. They have said they would look at the possibility, but haven't made a commitment so far.
Buying patterns will determine the results.
I don't want to support 'exclusive' costume sets in grab bags myself. -
Quote:And I opened over 300 packs on beta to 'not' find the Black Wolf.I got the set after around 12.
Then after around 60 or something more I got a wolf.
This also lead to having multiple full ATO sets, hundreds of those other random things and over 5k merits. Others seem to have gotten the set in even less.
The costume set seems to finish somewhere between 10-35 packs or so (which equals $10-35), I'm sure Arcanaville has calculated the exact bell curve.
Quote:I miss the "old days" when I could throw down $10 and get a guaranteed costume set and power with the Booster Packs. Getting the Martial Arts booster was probably the best extra $10 I ever spent on the game.[/B]
I would love to buy the Animal pack if they ever re-bundle it, but not at $25 or so, for what it is costing today. -
RIP Elemental Order costume set, you would have been so fun to play with.
But $35 is not worth your purchase. Sure...I might get 'lucky' and get it for $10, but when planning a budget, you have to prepare for the worst case scenario. Heck, it could cost even more than $35.
Also of note: It is called Super Pack #1, which means there will be many more costume sets deemed 'exclusive' and stuck into them. So, if you're only a costume enthusiast and not into ATOs and/or random silly inspirations/temp revive powers, they've found a way to sell us a super expensive variably priced costume set.
Drop the exclusive additions to the packs, and they become a wonderfully cheap grab bag for those interested in all they contain. As is, they, for many, become a way to charge an overinflated price for those seeking the costume set. -
Quote:Of course, some may 'only' want to buy the packs because of the costume sets, which are hot sellers, as everyone knows.Just to be clear, there are no rename or respec tokens in the superpacks. They really are a great deal for those who enjoy a variety of different types of permanent and consumable items, though. For people who hate consumables or whose builds are perfect and don't need ATOs, they won't be worth spending money on.
And that's fine. Not everything in the market will appeal to everyone.
For us, the cost of the costume went skyhigh. Of course, there is always the 'no purchase' option which I am leaning towards.
Of course, no one would have any complaints if there wasn't 'exclusive' bits in the packs. And the worst part, it is a thematically related costume 'set', that entices you to keep buying until you collect the whole thing, because the parts work so much better together and not generally as well as individual pieces, such as the School Backpack or the Fireman's Helmet. -
And might eventually end up costing you $35 or more to finally complete.
-
So there is always reason to buy that 'one more pack'. If you want a darn near statistical guarantee, you'll be spending thousands of dollars, and hundreds for a 'really good' chance at it.
Also, kinda pointless to buy one or two packs, when you'll just end up with a half complete set of thematically related costume parts. Sure, on rare occasions you might use a piece here and there, but mostly, you'll want all or most of the set for building a costume with.
So, $10-35 for a costume set, give or take. Kinda pricey.
Good point. -
You can just feel the love in this thread.

Solo, Brute.
In mass quantity in teams, Corruptors.
Corrupter x 8 = team of tankmages -
So much...nonsense in these packs, but alas, if I want the Elemental Order pieces, and I do, I have to clutter up my inventory with inspirations and temp powers.
Did we ever add a delete button?
Also, I hope I get a closer to $10 price for the costume set and not the higher end of the bell curve and end up paying $35. A bit much for a thematically related costume pack, wouldn't you say?
Oh well. Either pay or don't pay.
Curses on all the future packs holding hostage more awesome costume sets. I'm tempted to boycott them now, but I know it won't stop them from releasing more sets this way, so *sigh*. -
Double XP Weekends were marketing ploys.
With the freemium model, they are much less necessary to draw old players back into the game.
Still, we could 'possibly' see one again someday, but they hinted that they didn't have any planned in the near future. -
I like novels.
Of course, to earn his own.
But, of course, of course, there is always, "I didn't have time to write you a short letter, so I wrote you a long one." - Mark Twain
Concise is good, but a long bio can still be concise and full of material! Length is not everything. -
I thought it was fun, in that I could mess up a ambiguous ritual and had to do some 'improvisation' to figure it out.
Yes, being debuffed hurts, but it only lasts for 20 hours of 'real time' and I didn't personally find it completely 'crippled' my ability to play with that character. -

Quote:Ah, that is why I've seen GMs hanging around Pocket D.The missions from Ganymede and Scratch, where you need differently aligned characters to destroy the mission objective at the end, are still bugged. The mission objectives con friendly to all and a GM has to finish the mission. I reported this last year. The response I got from the GM last year and this year was the same. "It will be fixed as soon as possible." When I told him today that that was what I was told last year, he said "Thanks for playing " etc. Boy, what fun.

Quote:I, like the vast majority of the super veterans I see running around, already owned the Pocket D pass, and only really wanted the costume bits.[/list]Total a la Carte price: 1060 Paragon Points
Bundle price: 400 Paragon Points
660 Paragon Points savings!
Market Location: Paragon Picks > Bundles
KNOWN ISSUE: Currently, purchasing the Strapped Heels does not unlock this costume piece properly. This will be corrected as soon as possible.
Thus, the bundle is a meager 80 points discount over buying them individually, or 160 point discount if I consider the dance emotes valuable.
Still, I bought the pack as I consider the pants and shirts upgrades to the tailor screen very QoL upgrades for new character building, and a discount is a discount. -
Quote:Just picked one of the numerous people posting the same thing to quote. Congrats Zombie Man!Limited time offer is bad. As in gets me mad bad. There is no reason to do so. And mis-calling a clubbing-outfit pack a Valentine's Pack doesn't justify it. There is nothing Valentines-y about this pack. There is nothing Spring Fling-ish about this pack. There is nothing seasonal about this pack.
I already posted one screed about how my view of Marketing/Production is plummeting. This is the second. And it's plummeting further.
I agree with this sentiment. Nonsensical limited time buys just come off a bit greedy and needlessly limiting to players. -
Quote:Which is why the queue is a bad idea for MoM. It should be formed in a zone where a leader/moderator can assess the chance of success based upon the level shifts available. If we are going to allow anyone to queue up for MoMs, it should require a certain degree of level shift (perhaps +2 to require all players to be fighting at max +4s) in order to participate.Whoever was leading the league should have been aware that the AVs are 54+2, so any unshifted 50s would be fighting at -6.
If more complex is what is being designed for a league of 24 strangers to team together for, no thank you. Simple and straightforward works best for that large of a league, in my opinion based upon the countless Keyes I have been on and the general percentage of the league who actually understands how that specific iTrial works. -

All of the AE badges were very, very cool sounding. Here is a list AE Badges
At least "Poor Impulse Control" remained after the great AE badge yank of 2009.
Too bad they deemed them 'encouraging farming', as if farmers cared about badges. I really want to petition to get them back, but alas, I'm pretty sure it won't happen and it's not worth the fight. -
Quote:And since there is no 'requirement' to be able to join them, a league of PuG members from a queue will very likely fail due to this lack of DPS.
In MoM It Is All About High DPS (and therefore Level Shifts)
Hence, it is left up to the playerbase to police themselves and form leagues as we always have in RWZ/Pocket D and then queue up from there.
The queue will likely remain for picking up a couple of extra non-essential league members who just want to 'tag along' (at least for the harder trials) even after i22 hits live. The vast majority will continue to pre-form and then queue.
I'd like to see a level shift requirement to ensure a 'certain level of participation is met' for the harder iTrials, but others oppose them and don't mind participating members who contribue 1/5 as much damage as others. I can see both sides of the argument and consider that a level shift requirement would help smooth out the harder trials (which would be good for the playerbase, I think), but doesn't matter either way as I won't be joining PuG MoM, TPN, UG, or DD trials and will simply politely duck out of the league pre-queue if it's a league full of +0s that don't stand a 'reasonable chance of success'. -
Yep.
Rarely use it. I find it's best use is to send that boss to attack someone else when I just need a moment's time to recover my health. Beyond that, it's better to just keep attacking mid combat.
And since I usually play my Stalkers on teams who usually fight x4 or x6 or higher, trying to use Placate + AS almost always fails anyways. I've found that even when soft capped, 'something' will nearly always find a way to hit me and it's better not to waste my time, especially when the DPA is generally higher by simply continually attacking anyways. -
Quote:If they detoggle me, they'll be worthless to me as travel powers. If I was putting money on it...
I'd have to say the next one will be either:
A) Flying Disc - Just a simple disk, shiny version and colorable version. After the confusion with the naming of the frisbee emote, they have to be thinking it'd be a quick sell and not that hard to implement.
I'd give this 2 to 1 shot.
B) Bird Transformation - Utilizing the Hawk from the Beast set, seems like a natural progression after Coyote.
I'd give this..
Well, not sure what I'd give that as I'm banking on A.
Not sure how well the vanity travel powers are selling, but considering how much cheaper they must be to develop versus Ninja Run and Beast Run, I suspect they're 'profitable'.
I just hope if they do develop another travel power, it's useful and not another non-combat power like the latest vanity powers.
