    PvP Boot Camp

I... will pass on this. PvP is a joke. Besides, I wouldn't want to take a class (something I hate doing) on something I hate doing.

Prove it. My Illu/Kin's attack chain shreds anything I hit it with.

Blind, Patron Blast, SW, Patron Blast.
  4. Great compliation; I strongly disagree with your comments on Earth Assault. I've found it to be one of the hardest-hitting, strongest-feeling secondaries available to Doms. Stone Spears is a quick-hitting lifesaver and Hurl Boulder is a great source of damage and mitigation. I wouldn't call them 'worst' by any standard. The one thing this guide needs to address is it's overall tone; I've seen some people absolutely in love with powers you've named as "worst" or "not worth it." Remember, this is all opinion and shouldn't be presented as fact.

Ill try some of these ideas. There seems like many ways one can really build this guy
Why do I feel like force-fielding a Singularity would cause an implosion? xD

Also, I need help. I want to make a Gravity character. I have tried both sides of the game, red & blue. I can't seem to make it work. Can anyone recommend a good combo for me, something that'll feel strong?

Hell, I'll take suggestions for a dominator.

  8. Arachnos, simply for their dedication and armaments. Human-mechanical integration, no-reload energy weapons that double as melee tools, a psychic mind network that allows large groups to effectively sidestep anything that comes their way, and an omnipresence in the game?

    Win.

I will say this first though: Please do not mention anything in-game In-character until I give the A-Okay in the forums. A.I. and Dechs have to meet in-game before the series of events can kick off.
Oh of course. Lips're sealed. Can't jump the gun if there's no gun to jump.
  10. Fair enough, Mr. AI.

I think I'll join this with my Praetorian Rockstar Steven Synaptus. He's only 26 but he's got an eye for the spotlight, and let's face it, if the virus is 'smart' it'll use his fame to spread. Imagine it; rockstar endorses the new 'miracle' compound. He still keeps hopes up when things go a little awry, then rockstar gets infected.
  11. I'm still a little unclear on if this would affect Nalrok; he's essentially a concentration of the power of Dark Melee (nether) and contains his own consciousness and countless souls. He does count as a demon/planar entity, so would the nanites be able to infect what is essentially a viscous self-aware haze?
  12. Cool looking. Hand down.

    Here's my reasoning.

"I activated the power and I just punched a guy and it did 9,500 damage. Cool."

"I activated the power and my character slammed his fist into the ground, the earth underneath him shattering in a circle, giant spikes of steel shooting up around the crater, the skies darkening and the sun turning a brilliant blue! The enemies were caught in electrified steel cages and tormented by hundreds of thousands of furious souls as my character laughed and, by just closing his fist, the cages smashed inward and crushed them all."

    'Nuff said.

Oh my god I'd love to see that. I could even get my Praetorian Rockstar in on that, try to hog the spotlight and maybe get infected.
  14. Hello hello once again, my CoX compatriots. It's time for another of Nalrok's RP prompts! This one may be a little troublesome for those of you who are trying to combat altitis.

I want you to create a character concept, and then make them! If you want to be thorough, reserve a name on the server. Then, write their information! Finally, create them and play them! I find that all too often I end up deleting lowbies because their concept just doesn't interest me. From what I understand, this happens to others too. So, in the interest of creating a new toon that's fun to play and fun to RP, here we go!

    Quote:
Write an origin story/backstory to a character you haven't created yet. Once you've established their presence and purpose, create them on the server and play! At the end of your post, feel free to tell us what AT/powersets you chose!
"My friends told the tale almost every week when the weather got colder. Told me they'd heard it from their family, from their grand-dads. Goes like this.

"Wherever there's dust and tumbleweeds and a full moon, people talk of Lady Do or Die. Gorgeous straw-colored hair, blue eyes that're dead as the cold gray clouds, a constant grin on a mouth that tells lies of silver and sings with sounds of heaven. A lot of folks say she's a witch, a weaver of the evils of the land. Even more folks say she can give you whatever you want, whatever you ask for, so long as you can beat her in a duel. She first started showin' up in old legends, 'longside Pecos Bill and Paul Bunyan. Except, she never lived on in written word like those other magical characters since she was neither good of heart nor understanding. She wanted the world on a string and no one to question her.

"Ev'ry now and again you hear about the mystery murder; some random guy out in the middle of the Nevada desert or the Arizona cliffs with a gun in his hand and two bullet wounds in his chest, surrounded by iced-over dirt. Every time they find someone like that, they say it was Lady Do or Die winning another gunfight. I wonder if anyone's ever won."

    "Draw!"

The woman drew her guns, one gold and one ivory. With a gleam in her eye and a sneer on her lips the two weapons barked out a war cry, and the man twenty paces from her fell to the ground bleeding.

"You witch," he cried, blood flying from his mouth. "You cheated! You turned early!"

"No I didn't, cowboy." The woman strode over with a go-screw-yourself saunter, licking her lower lip with her nose wrinkled up. "You're just a terrible shot. You shake when you aim, you pull the trigger when you oughta squeeze, and you have the worst revolver I ever seen." She knelt down, shaking her head, her straw-colored hair falling around her shoulders. "Pretty sad, man. Every time I come out for my stroll one of you wise-types walks up and waves a gun at me like you think you'll be the next guy to get his grants."

The man spat out a clot of blood, looking at her furiously. "Why the hell can't I just get it? Why do I have to duel you?" He reached for his revolver, and found his hand crushed under the woman's steel-toed boot.

"Mm-mm, friend. You lost. No two-for-two. You don't get the wishes unless you beat me in a duel." She stood up, lighting a cigarette and blowing a cloud of smoke into the air. Her dead blue eyes traced the horizon, the moon framing her upper body as the man stared up at her. "It's just sad. I always get the speech, too. You gonna give me the speech, cowboy? Gonna tell me all the reasons you shouldn't die?"

The man sputtered, shaking. "N... nah," he breathed. "Figure... I got myself into this. If I'm gonna die, I'm gonna die." He set his head down on the sand and rolled his eyes. "Just my luck."

"Why'd you want the grants, friend?"

"What?" The man looked back up as the woman puffed her cigarette.

"I said, why'd you want the grants? The wishes, son, pay attention." She took her foot off of his hand and kicked the gun away.

"I wanted three things, lady. I wanted money, I wanted a new home, and I wanted my wife and kid back."

    "Ol' lady leave you?"

"Hell no, some masked jackass broke in to my house and killed her. Took my money, my guns, and burned my house down afterward! Left me to die, saying 'good luck with all this crap' as he ran out the door."

The woman looked down. "... that so. In'tresting," she muttered as she snapped a finger. The man jerked, and a hollowpoint slug shot out of his chest. His chest, which was now healed. "Get up," she said dryly.

"What?" The man stood, confusion on his face.

"I won't give you three wishes, but I'll give you something for your trouble. You're the first guy come out here that didn't give me some 'I want power' story, or some damn fool saying he wants superpowers." She took his hand, and without warning the world around him exploded with light. When he came to, he was standing next to the woman in a large warehouse, behind two men and sixteen hostages. The two men were wearing orange vests and ceramic demon masks.

"Boys," the woman said. They both spun around. The orange-vested man on the left was met with the ivory pistol, his head exploding backward as the woman put a slug in his head. The other one was met with her boot. He fell, dropping his assault rifle.

"Cowboy," she said to the man at her side. "This loser I just branded with my foot is the man that killed your family and torched your home." She slapped the golden gun into the man's hand. "Why don't you introduce him to Golden Greta?"

The man, eyes wide, accepted the gun.

    ---

"We've been looking for him for weeks, sir. How did you even get the opportunity to shoot him? He's the slipperiest Hellion we've ever met," the PPD officer said to the man.

"Right place, right time, right motive, I guess." The man shrugged, looking at his surroundings. For the next half hour he spent his time giving information to the police and talking with the hostages he'd just saved. All sixteen of them swore on their lives he'd walked in and shot both men, saving them from being part of an elaborate warehouse fire scheme.

As he walked away from the scene, he took the golden gun out of his waistband and stated at it for what felt like hours.

"I'd like that back," the woman said from behind him.

He spun around, shaking his head. "I don't know what to say... I don't know how to thank you." He offered her the gun, and she holstered it.

"Things need to be made right sometimes, friend. Tomorrow you're gonna get a call from the head of criminal affairs at Paragon City Hall; they're gonna want to offer you a job. You'll do well, you'll get enough money to get a nice new place to live. I can't give you back your family, but it's a start."

    "I- But I-"

"Cowboy, you know who I am. They don't call me Lady Do or Die for nothin. Now either you go do, or I change my mind 'bout all this."

"Y-yeah! Yes, I got it. Thank you. Thank you so much."

"Ain't worth fussin' over. Y'all be good now."

    The streetlight over them flickered.

    She was gone.

((Lady Do or Die, DP/Ice Blaster.))
  15. I'm not sure who I could bring to this, but I think it would be fun.

    I have a few questions:

Is this virus infectious on more than one level? Example: It can be absorbed through the skin AND inhaled.

Do gas masks/magical masks count for any sort of prevention?

My main, Nalrok, isn't actually an organic demonic presence, but more of a physical manifestation of nether; if he were to exist in a "pure" form he would be billions of gray-white tendrils and contained souls. Would this virus affect him?

How would this virus affect characters in contained suits? I have a character named Human Air Horn who's in a self-contained power suit to keep himself from going all Positron on his surroundings.

Would robots have their AI overtaken, rather than becoming 'feral?'

Could this virus take over someone's mind and force them to infect others? My hero main Neuronomicon has a "neurokinetic control" system in place of his central nervous system. Could the virus take him over, adopt his personality and use him as a plague spreader?

  17. Off the top of my head:

    Mercs:

The Medic prefers melee range 100% of the time. He is the first to run in and the first to die.

The Commando does entirely too much knockback, detrimental to the already-thin cones of the rest of your henchmen.

The summoning animation for Mercs is the longest summon animation in the game. I watched a Merc MM fruitlessly try to resummon his pets in the Apex TF during the Battle Maiden fight. If a blue patch spawned on him just after he began to summon ONE tier of pets, he was guaranteed to be hit by the falling sword 100% of the time.

The Flashbang Grenade once caused my best friend to have a mild seizure. The graphical effect of that power needs to be seriously toned down; for each enemy it hits it emits an explosion of light similar to activating Domination. In a full x8 spawn, this can be literally blinding.

    Demons:

Shut up shut up SHUT UP! PLEASE reduce the freaking noise. All I ever hear is "snort snort snort snurff snargle ROAAAWWWRD GLUUUURRRAAAAAAHH grumble rorgh snurgt". It's too much, and has been complained about since they were implemented.

Demon attacks need to be less flashy (see the Merc Flashbang issue). Every attack makes a large, bright 'pop' of light when it lands, save for the Demon Prince.

    Demon endurance issues are absurd.

    Ninjas

All I can say is that ninjas are incredibly stupid, even for the current AI.

    Thugs

Animations for the Enforcer's Uzi's are bugged like crazy. Almost every animation is broken. When the Enforcer lifts his left uzi and fires, the one he's not using shows muzzle flash. When he fires both at the same time, only one of them shows muzzle flash. When he raises one sideways, it only flashes twice. The animation team needs to check in to that.

The Arsonist's burn patches need to be changed to not cause fear, especially with the current mob AI. The moment one of those things spawns every enemy hit by it will run. For ten minutes at a time.

    Mastermind General Issues

All IO enhancement aspects should apply to all aspects of every power.

Example: An IO with endurance reduction should apply that reduction to ALL of that henchman's powers regardless of what kind of set it is. The best example is how slotting a Slow set into Summon Demons will only enhance the Cold Demonling. That, regardless of how sets work, is extremely inconvenient and can almost be considered broken.

Pet AI has rendered ranged pets completely pants-on-head retarded. Dear Protector Bot: You do not have melee attacks. Get the @#$% back here.

Masterminds will cause the Avoid flag to permanently hit enemies. Multiple videos have proven this. The best example was described by Techbot Alpha; a situation where he attacked a melee EB once and waited for 20 minutes as it ran around the map in fear.

Aside from Demon Summoning, Mastermind primary attacks are worthless and have no reason to be taken other than set-muling or proccing. If they DO have secondary effects, they are too low to rely on save for M30 Grenade's knockback.

    Secondaries

Give us /Sonic, and /Cold. There's no reason not to.

Pain Domination's self-buff effects are almost worthless to a Mastermind unless they have taken their Primary attacks and/or their APP/PPP powers. The damage bonus from Share Pain isn't going to help you if you only have Brawl and vet attacks.

O2 Boost, Alkaloid, Cauterize, and all other single-target heals currently cost 16 endurance to use, unenhanced. Every version of these powers (across all AT's) could use an end reduction, considering how much they heal for.
  18. Wonder how the inquiry is going.
  19. Infrigidate is a great -defense tool; I'd suggest trying to slot it as such.

Well, I personally think it's awesome, bug or not. Since the attack itself has an AoE taunt component, it works. I think trying to fix that might involve making the ST damage and the taunt component completely separate. That might make things complicated as far as coding/gameplay goes.
  21. Want to have fun with the "AOE" aspect of all tanker attacks? Slot Kinetic Combat: Knockdown Bonus in every one of your ST attacks. It's incredible; every time you hit, one or more enemies will fall on his butt. GREAT mitigation.
  22. If this game was about the destination, I'd have quit after getting one (and only one) character to 50.
  23. I will mention that I plan to use sets with global recharge bonuses. Ice feels a little slow right now, and I'm sure enhancements will fix that. I love +recharge, and I've even taken two stealth powers to add LotG +7.5% IO's. That said I do have a lot of end reduction slotted in Mid's.

.. GG. Your character is stacked like breakfast at the waffle hut.
  25. I wanted an Ice/Ice dom originally, but that combo felt anemic at best. I've asked around, and I now know the must-take powers. However, I do have a few I'm on the fence about. Would love for some insight, and possible slotting advice.

Frost Breath: Some people have told me to skip it and remain ST, some have told me to take it and combine it with Ice Storm.

Freeze Ray/Bitter Freeze Ray: Everyone says you can't take one without taking the other, and I can imagine why. If I choose to take them, should I slot BFR with damage and FR with hold, or both with hold?

Frostwork: Again, 50% of people say to take it, 50% say don't. Great for teams; too situational.

Any thoughts or advice? Feel free to tell me about your own Ice/Cold experience if you have one, and pointers on how to run it; I'm new to ranged ice characters entirely. Not once in my 5 years have I played a ranged ice-based toon past 10.
