Quote:The first hand, because I'm not sticking my hand in a litterbox. When, *if* solo/small group Incarnate content gets here, then I'll be happy. Thrilled. Delighted even. Until then, well, if you hold what's "being considered for implementation" in one hand, and rummage in the litter box with the other, guess which one fills up first?
I'm intrigued that you're taking the aggressive form of the other side of this argument. While some of the forums say "You should leave the game if you don't like it", you're saying "We might as well leave the game if we don't like it". Interesting. -
Quote:Honestly, man, I've played other MMO's (regretfully). What we have now is NOT Raiding. It doesn't even compare. Raiding is spending hours a night fighting through hordes of enemies and facing 5-10 big bosses who have more HP than you care to think about and require tactics so absurd one SINGLE misstep by one SINGLE player will destroy the chances of victory in 10 seconds or less.Actually, no.
End game right now: Raiding.
Revealed end game (Keyes Island) : Raiding.
After that: Unknown. More raiding is, I believe, confirmed. "Alternate paths," small team/solo content is, at best, alluded to. The value of that really depends on your attitude towards the devs and things they've "worked on" and "looked at" prior to this.
So I can definitely see where they feel the end game system is just a series of raids. No, we don't know all of it, but if they see that and see what's officially announced, I can certainly understand being dismayed if it's all a type of gameplay they don't like.
What we have now isn't raiding. The term should not be used as a generalization. It would be like calling a Mustang a Formula 1 car. Yeah, at their core they serve the same purpose but one is way higher on the scale.
That was win. -

Quote:It's je_saist. Just ignore it.Wow. We're so fortunate to have an official spokesman from The Fun Police here to tell us what we are and are not allowed to desire in recreation. All these years, I thought I was paying subscriptions to play what and how I liked, I had no idea I was paying to be permitted to enjoy only those things you deem Acceptable Gaming Activities.
Do you have any helpful instruction on what I should desire in books, music, or movies? I'd hate to hope for something and learn it's an item on your Forbidden List. -
Quote:Do me a favor and go look at the PPD SWAT vans outside of the Kings Row's Police Station.Did you really have to call Praetoria's military the IDF? Every time I run an incarnate trial I keep thinking I'm up against the Israeli Defense Force.
"Paragon Police Department: Special Tasks Division"
That's right. The PPD: STD.
It could be worse. -
Mondo is a pro. Even though he trolls, he trolls well.
That said, is it trolling if it makes the person trolled laugh?
Well done, Mondo. -

Quote:Okay. That doesn't make the Incarnate System "the game" though, does it? Because that's exactly what Eiko said.No... That's not what's being said.
Eiko isn't saying the rest of the game is irrelevant. Merely that using what the rest of the game is like in this argument is irrelevant.
HOWEVER, currently, if you wish to progress with the post-50 advancement system, you're locked into a single path right now with no viable options.
(Eiko also said a lot of other things that had absolutely nothing to do with my post, and doesn't seem to want to comment on them.)
Well, the LFG tool used to do that. :P -
Quote:I completely disagree. The rest of the game is not irrelevant, nor will it ever be. I can still enjoy all the old content. If the new content has made the rest of the game irrelevant to you, then that is not my problem. As the Trials are tied directly and inexorably with the new ADVANCEMENT, what the rest of the game like IS COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT. New advancement is "the game".
I'm sorry, what? Where'd this come from?Quote:You don't deny that the Trials are different from pre-existing content; you deny that we should have access to the new advancement because we don't like this new, different content. The fact that the old content is still there doesn't matter, because the old content doesn't get us the new advancement. Until it does, it doesn't matter what the rest of the game is like when having conversations about the new advancement.
I didn't deny anything other than CoX being a raiding game. Get off your soapbox.
That road goes both ways. You (collective) would do us all a huge favor if you'd stop recycling the same old complaints.Quote:You (collective) would do us all a huge favour if you'd stop recycling the same old irrelevant arguments. Unless your argument in some way involves a (viable - please don't talk about shards and those stupid conversion recipes) method to obtain new advancement, it means less than nothing in this context.
I never posted about advancement. I never denied anything. I never even hinted at the first little bit you posted. You just put words in my mouth so you could fuel an argument that really came out of left field. -
Quote:The Trials are not raiding.TLDR version. The core strength of the game for seven years has been scaling small group and solo play. Changing the entire game to rely only on raiding for end game progression is bad. While having a raiding element to the game is fine, please make solo and small group play a primary focus for progression, not as an afterthought to raiding.
Raiding takes 1-5 hours a night, 5-7 nights a week. The trials take, at their very worst, an hour and a half to complete.
Good lord, man, this argument has been beaten to death, back to life, to death again, and then somehow beaten to death again.
CoX is not a raiding game. It never has been, it isn't now, and it never will be. They didn't delete content, they didn't change the rest of the game into raids, the ONLY change came with the Trials, and those are now trivial thanks to the powers they unlocked.
Good grief. Take a chill pill and stop comparing CoX to the rest of the MMO market. -
To speak for the people in my position, it doesn't feel like it's being tended to either. Sure, they fixed the Radeon issue, but that's it.

For those of you interested, I've been in possession of the VG Dawn of Darkness since... since about 4 years ago actually, if not longer. I would gladly use it as my own VG for RP fun times. It's a magic-themed group with room for all comers; we don't have any real need to deny membership to any particular theme.
Edit: I should really rephrase this and say "I don't have any real need to deny membership to any particular theme" since I'm the only active person in the VG, and have been for 2 years now. -
World War 2. Hitler marches on Russia. Russia outnumbers them 1000:1 and stomps them flat. The Allies now have a weakened Germany before them. I got that off the top of my head, man. It HAS always been that way; you would be a foolish commander to not strike when an enemy's been weakened by battle.

I could see PEATs working like VEATs.
Arch 1: Resistance Soldier
Basic Resistance AR attacks, some devices, some leadership, some self auto-buffs maybe.
Branch 1: Resistance Heavy
Basically a Blaster-like class with some armor toggles. A mix of Heavy Barrel and Heavy Hands attacks.
Branch 2: Resistance Commando
Dual Resistance Pistols with leadership, armor toggles and some powered brawling and/or summoning capability.
Arch 2: PPD Officer
Some basic energy glove attacks with auto armor powers and self-buffs. Minor versions of Foresight as there IS a seer network behind you.
Branch 1: Interrogator
Heavier and more varied glove blasts, with energy punches and the control powers wielded by PPD Lts. and Bosses. Armor toggles, auto resist powers, and Leadership.
Branch 2: Seer
Basic psychic attacks from the Widow/Blaster sets with a splash of 'psychic melee' and team buffs. Summoning capability, and a free Seer version of Hover/Combat Flight.
My 2 cents. -
Quote:ahurrhurrrrdedurrrrSo I should make a video of a Tanker defeating a GM without pets to prove my stance that Tankers can't defeat GMs without pets?
You fail logic.
You fail at being witty.
Read it again genius, and don't glean from it only what you need to fuel an argument. Let me put it in big text for you.
Make a video of your best tanker soloing a GM. Do it better than Sylph did. If that means no pets, don't use pets. If that means no epic pool, don't use epic pool powers.
Until you do that you are just trolling someone who's having fun with their Tanker.
Put. Your money. Where your mouth is. -
You do it then. Put your money where your complaints come from and go make a video showcasing you doing the exact thing Sylph did but better. I eagerly await that video. I really do.

Quote:I'm genuinely curious; did you do this to show that you can do it, or did you do it so you could cram it up Johnny's nose? :P
Also, this morning I defeated Adamaster - even though I screwed up a bit in the middle of the fight. This is significant, because Adamaster possesses both truly effective area attacks that can destroy pets and has more survivability than Paladin. I believe Paladin has in the range of 13500 HP and 67 HP/Sec Regen, while - if memory recalls correctly - Adamaster has somewhere around 28000 HP and around 95 HP/Sec Regen.
Thanks again, folks! -
Quote:Steelclaw... that's actually one of the most brilliant story ideas I've ever seen. If they released a comic series based around this, I'd read it.* Positron and Numina had two years of happy marriage before a Rikti Invasion ended in the apparent capture of his bride. After time he finally accepted she wouldn't return and began to date again. Now he has fallen in love with a lovely scientist but Numina has returned; already half way through the Riktification process! If that weren't bad enough, only Positron's new paramour has the scientific know-how to reverse the process! Will she give him back his wife only to lose her love forever?!

In all seriousness, I would if they weren't paramilitary. Moone and Drake are both long-time buddies of mine and I do still RP with them. They're both excellent RPers too. But I'm not looking for paramilitary; the sets I can tie to paramilitary characters (AR, which is anemic for me; Mercs, which are equally anemic; Dual Pistols, which I've already taken to 50; Traps, which I only enjoy on MM; and Devices, which I have on a 41 AR/Dev) just don't feel good as far as gameplay is concerned. Besides, I've already established my 'main' RP characters. One of them is tied to Drake closer than he knows, and the rest just don't fall in with the military gig.
