Well, yeah, it got shot down because it doesn't -legally- have real world value.

[/ QUOTE ] I didn't realize the law had anything to do with value. I always figured value was determined by the market.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The market isn't a legal one.

[/ QUOTE ] Thats fine and all, but that has nothing to do with value.

    [/ QUOTE ]

When it comes to the government, it has everything to do with value.

[/ QUOTE ] So you're saying something can't have a value if the government says so? I wanna make sure I'm understanding you correctly.

Two words: CONTRACT LAW. The EULA -IS- a legally binding contract.

[/ QUOTE ] Unless I've missed a concluded court case that didn't end in a out-of-court settlement... possibly.

[/ QUOTE ] An EULA can be legally binding, if it is worded properly.

Thing is, there's really nothing to prosecute. RMT doesn't break any laws, only EULAs, so accounts could be banned, but thats about it. IIRC the blizzard suit wasn't really about gold trading per se, it was about spam. Keep in mind, that this was against a US firm, so US anti-spam laws would apply. i don't know that the same could be said of a foreign RMT outfit. Odds are they operate from a country with no laws concerning spam.

As far as comparisons with RIAA, MPAA, etc, keep in mind that there are international agreements governing intellectual property. I don't know that there are any such agreements that are related to the issues involved in RMT.

[/ QUOTE ] I'm willing to bet that if RMT gets out of hand governments would get involved by taxing people. The last thing any of us want is our in game currency to have any kind of significant real world value.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Only trouble is how do you tax criminal activities? RMT sites aren't being run by legitimate businesses.

[/ QUOTE ] I'm not talking about companies like that being taxed. If gold/influence/currency gained significant real world value, we might end up getting taxed for it. A few politicians have thrown the idea around already, but it never went anywhere.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
Wait are you sure about that?

    [/ QUOTE ] No.

I've heard random stories such as how somebody couldn't afford a certain treatment so the hospital went with the cheaper option, in this case in meant amputating a leg.

I have no proof of anything like this, as it was just some story I heard. But knowing how businesses operate, it wouldn't surprise me.

It also helps if you can respond to criticism constructively and not attack anyone who disagrees with you or points out flaws in the suggestion. There are some posters who perceive any disagreement with their ideas as personal attacks / conspiracy against them. Those threads generally don't do well or last long.

[/ QUOTE ] In all fairness there are times(though I don't feel it is a lot) that the disagreement/criticism is put forth in a very dickish way. My advice would to just completely ignore that post. Like the person doesn't exist.

    Danger Room

I'll say it: I would love this feature with no rewards of any kind. Just the ability for me to test my build against 8 man spawns 100% solo without jumping through hoops would be awesome. It would be one giant scrappergasm.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
What country did they live int hat the doctors allowed the fingers to heal together and didn't repair them?

[/ QUOTE ] As long as it's not life threatening I believe any hospital in the U.S. would do something like that if it was the cheaper option and the person didn't have insurance/couldn't pay.

    So does Leela ...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I met her in a club down in old SoHo
    We're you drink champagne,
and it taste just like coca cola
    c-o-l-a, cola
    She, walked up to me
and she asked me to dance
    I asked her her name
and in a dark, brown voice she said:
    LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELA
    L-E-E-L-A, LEELA
    LEE-LEE-LEE-LEEEEELAAAA
    ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-bam. De-de-de-de-de-de-de-dedadum.
    LEEEEEEEELAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
    Ba-de-bade-bababam.

Now i'll have to actively tinker with it and see if i can reproduce this.

  13. Assuming you're going to be farming standard mobs and not custom critters, I would go with a blaster. Arch/MM has tons of AoE at that level. It is also a great combo for the Positron TF(one of, if not the best IMO). Psychic Scream is freaking awesome for taking on clockwork.

I understand what you are saying, but there are MANY remedies to international offenses just like this. The entertainment industry faces this and more daily and has developed a fairly good system to deal with international violations like this.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You're joking, right? If you ever meet Steve Ballmer, ask him what he thinks of the software 'industry' in China.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I laughed too. Last year the estimate for losses of the Motion Picture Industry due to counterfeiting and pirated movies was more than $6 billion. Most of the counterfeits came from China. I'd hate to see what a bad system to deal with this would be like.

I doubt the RIAA fares any better over there.

[/ QUOTE ] I would be wary of those numbers. Industry numbers sometimes count every instance of a pirated movie or song as a lost sale. When the simple fact is that isn't true.
  15. I realize this doesn't answer the question, but I think Silver Mantis is difficult.

Terra? Well, she doesn't have any particularly special attacks beyond those of any other Greater Devoured, so if your Scrapper happens to have a surplus of Smashing Resistance on top of some defense, you should be able to do quite well.

    [/ QUOTE ]
/SR, so my only resistance is what I get from Tough.

[/ QUOTE ]And from your auto powers as your health goes down.

[/ QUOTE ] When fighting AVs, my experience has been that the scaling resist often times doesn't do much. When I am defeated it usually happens very quickly by a couple hits that got through my defense in a matter of seconds.
  18. At this point I realized that. I'm just wondering what the reason is. I'll just give the box to my roommate or little brother(if he wants it). This isn't a big deal, I'm just curious.
  19. You basically wanna be at perma hasten, or really close to it. When hasten is down that will make the attack chain slow down a lot.
  20. I found Manticore and Nemesis to be easy. Although Nemesis's PFF did annoy me.

    What is ED?

It stands for Enhancement Diversification. Years ago you could six slot a power with the same enhancement and get the full benefits from them. It was changed so that now you get diminishing returns, for the most part slotting a power with more than three of the same thing is a waste.

It's not universally hated either, I personally think it was one of the two best things to happen to the game. Inventions being the other.
  22. So my sub is about to run out so I went and picked up Architect edition so I could get the Cyborg Booster(I did the same for Magic Booster couple months ago). But when I tried to apply the code I found out I can't add architect edition type code to my account again. Why is that a restriction?

If they were to implement a lifetime subscription program, I'd expect it to cost more than a year of play at the monthly rate (i.e. at least $180, probably significantly more).

[/ QUOTE ] I would guess $400, solely because plenty of people would be willing to pay it.
