The only reason I find this quote lacking and not helpful is because that's not what people are trying to say. He implies that we find MA farming dirty and evil whereas we are merely trying to say "farming in MA was not intended by the Devs, they have even gone to great lengths to prevent it now. Farming in the sewers is not on the same level since that mechanic is obviously intended and even encouraged."

So, no. I'm not being obtuse, I was actually trying to have a legitimate conversation regarding the topic but I'm sure to get more negative rep only because I disgree with others opinion. Oh well.
    First, you're welcome. Second, I don't care.
  2. Good point. Perhaps the max level for signature TFs and the rest can be left alone. That way if a team wants to run at a lower level and lose some powers for the challenge they can.

Let me explain the 2 potential reasons for why:

    1. I had a very bad experience, fortunately this only happens very rarely. The leader in the middle of a Numina went to his base, and went AFK. There was no harm while we did all the hunts. sadly he fell asleep, and we could not force the next mission. The entire team gave up after all that work.

    2. With the new auto Sk system, many players do not initially pay attention to levels of the leader and then a TF started. So far so good, then we enter the mission and kapow, the mobs are 5 level shigher than us at low level difficulty. This happened say in a Positron level 10 to 15, the sponsoring player was 10, so we all nurf down to level 10, all the mobs are 16. Thus we all have to quit, return to SC and reform team, but this time with a higher level leader.

My suggestion is more a QoL type, in case 1, all 7 of us could vote to make another one of us leader, thus removing the star from the AFK jerk and then being able to go on. The vote would have to be uninamous with out the current leader needing or having to vote; so there would not be any jerking around.

In the second case, we all could choose our new leader based on level, do the switch, and presto we are now as good as we can get in level to do the TF. Once more, with the exception of the current leader, it would require a unanimous vote.

    Hugs

I don't think the leader should ever be forced to give up the star. To deal with your issues I suggest:

    1. Allow people to auto log even when on a Task Force(anyone know the reason why we don't auto log for being AFK on a TF currently?)

    2. I have felt for years that everybody should auto exemp/SK to the max level of any TF. That would solve the problem.

Get to level 22(for SOs) then do the Synapse TF, you won't feel squishy at all.

    Solo TF's

Which, IMO, is a mistake. If people want to try to solo a TF, I see no harm in it. Allowing it will mean I don't have to bug people to fill for me.

No worries. A well built blaster is a thing of beauty.

More importantly, do I HAVE to defeat Babbage? Cuz if I can just zip out of the mission and zone, could I just leave him there and continue on with the TF?

NOTE: And for those of you... well lets just say.. emotional players out there, I would at least send out a broadcast that he was there or possibly kite him to the police drones at the entrance to Perez or something.
Yes you can do Synapse the same way and you do not have to defeat Babbage. The original six TFs are all relatively easy to solo. Sister Psyche and Manticore frustrated me a lot though. Sister had freaks running away a ton and Manticore has Paragon Protectors taking extra long to defeat when they pop Moment of Glory(which they do often).

That is a valid point. I don't know how bad the comments get, the worst I have got is being called an idiot. I imagine some people like to go a lot further than that.

And how you interpret the EULA is opinion as well. In fact this entire discussion is nothing more than opinion since as far as we know no court has ruled on this specific subject. To claim what you say is fact and not opinion is just plain dishonest.

According to you IP ownership and even ownership of your car(since you did say transferring IP was just like transferring car ownership) could be claimed by NCSoft just by clicking through their EULA. At best that is unconscionable contract terms.
  13. If they took the anonymity out of the rep system it would get rid of a lot of the stupid comments people get. Allowing anonymous comments doesn't serve any purpose..

  15. I just did a Synapse TF with my spines/elec Scrapper and it was awesome. Granted with all the energy damage Clockwork does I was set up for success already being at the resist cap(at level 22), but it was a blast. I think I'm gonna farm Rikti and Carnies when I reach 50 with my Scrapper.

This right here is where you lose any credibility you might have had.
  17. As a Scrapper you should go for Melee, Ranged, then AoE, in that order.

One thing I feel is certain is that even if NCSoft could claim IP ownership over your creations, they wouldn't go after somebody unless they thought it would be extremely profitable. As going after an individual over something like this would be a PR nightmare as the backlash could be enormous.

You cannot transfer copyright of a character by clicking "Next" or "I Agree" as Arcanaville so eloquently pointed out. (Incidentally, that's exactly why there's not an actual NDA for CoH's closed betas, despite everyone saying there is. First of all, there's nothing in the EULA that even mentions closed beta confidentiality and secondly, an NDA is a contract that must be SIGNED -- the way that CoV's closed beta NDA was digitially signed, not by clicking "Next" on a EULA that doesn't even mention closed beta confidentiality.)

Of course, you wouldn't be able to use any CoH-originating elements to enhance your already existing character in whatever other form he or she appeared, and the whole thing may be murky when it comes to characters that were initially created in the game itself, but for existing characters that you choose to represent inside the game... No, NCSoft does NOT own them; they just get nonexclusive rights to use their CoH representation in any way they see fit. That section of the EULA protects NCSoft from us as much as it protects us from them (maybe more so).

It's the only way it would make sense, especially given the Guest Author MA series, where established writers are being invited to bring THEIR characters into the game. Unless you think NCSoft is going to write up a special EULA to have only those authors see when they launch the game to do their work.
See this makes much more sense and is how I initially understood it when I read it. Perhaps I misunderstood what TonyV was saying, but it appeared he was stating once a character is created in CoH that NCSoft owned the IP for that character, period.

And I would imagine that guest authors aren't bound by the EULA that we are. They are brought in for the purpose of writing a story, so any copyright involved in that process is probably worked out between the guest author and NCSoft.

Inf, like money, is fungible. That means it can be applied to anything equally as long as the source of the funds is the same. In the case of listing/sale fees, it has to do with the gross and net cost.

The listing fee is 5%. The gross loss at sale is 10%. That's a net cost of 5% at listing and 5% at sale. They can use whatever words they want and even do whatever code routing they want, but unless there's a way around either they listing or the sale fee, the fact is that the listing fee is not refunded (in that you never get it back) and the sale fee is 5% (in that it's how much additional money you lose). Anything else is just semantics. Normally I care a great deal about semantics, but when it comes to economics, everything else is trumped.

The real myth here is that money isn't fungible.
The real fact is that it is and the bottom line is that you drop 5% on the listing and an additional 5% on the sale. None of that is ever refunded.

It's like saying Buy One Get One Free. Unless you pay full price for the first one whether you take the second one or not, what's really happening is that it's on 50% discount. The rest is just marketing.
    </rant>

You don't always drop 5% when you sell it. You lose 10% of the sale minus your listing fee. If your sale price is higher than your listing price(which happens often), then more than 5% of your sale price will be deducted.

So TonyV, what if you have already commercialized your character before ever playing City Of Heroes? Does that mean I have to stop doing that at that point?
