  1. Any insight on which direction to go?

I'd like a pet that buffs up resistance or defense if possible. Some healing would work as well. Not terribly concerned about damage or anything like that.

Thats what i understood... am i wrong?

10 Shards gets you 5-10 threads.

12 shards gets you 3 common or 1 uncommon piece of salvage.

    10 threads get you nothing.
20 Threads gets you 1 common piece of salvage.
60 Threads gets you an uncommon.
340 Threads + 100 Mil influence gets you 1 rare.
1360 Threads + 800 Mil influence gets you 1 very rare

GL getting 1,360 shards over 5 ish months (Assuming you can earn 10 shards a day every day) And that is just for the piece of rare salvage required for it. If you want to break down what you need total to get a tier 4.

You are looking at 15 Commons 2 uncommons, 2 Rares and 1 Very rare orrrrrr 2,460 shards to reach 1 tier 4 incarnate ability. (Plus 1.6 Billion influence). Of course this will take you a little over 8 months of playing 1 character every day. To slot out 1 of your incarnate slots.

Whats that? You want all four. I hope you didn't have any plans for the next 3 years if you are a solo player.
  3. My issue isn't with the grind. I'm a grinder. Back in the day you simply were grinding for levels and accolades. Your reward, you had lots of different characters you could play with 20% more HP 10% more end, and Archmage/Geas came in handy.

Then came IO's. You could grind out TF's to get Pool C drops, play regular content for A/B, run trials for D? (Something like that, you get the picture) You played all of the content and were rewarded for it.

Then came purples, they were rare, you got them for playing at the level cap.

Then came merits, you got them for playing any and all content. Letting you buy or roll for IO's. Again, the grinding wasn't bad.

Then came Alignment Merits, you could get them from A. Doing everything you did to get merits, plus throwing some influence at them. Or running a set of tip missions.

Then came incarnate shards. You had to grind out level 50 TF's for them, then do 1 special TF that changes weekly to get a "notice" Perfect example of grinding that was fun. You had all of the level 50 content over the past 6 or 7 years to grind out getting what you wanted.

Then came issue 20. A whole new system of threads, Merits, Salvage all crammed into two trials. No other place in the game can you get them, no other content, no where. Just two instances that you have to run over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. For the Alpha slot you had dozens of TF's, Arcs, Trials, ETC to help you earn what you need. For the next FOUR slots you are crammed into running two trials over and over again. The worst part, given how much you are required to do to get these 4 slots unlocked, slotted, then leveled. The "Alt play" that made this game so much fun is essentially going down the drain.

Point of the rant? You had it right with i19 and i19.5 with the alpha slot. It took effort, it took time, but you had variety and the ability to play alts and get meaningful progress on them. With i20 I find myself asking "Which character do I really want to play these trials every day for for the next several months, just so I can finish his build." The best part being, the 7 years worth of content is pretty much ignored and I am left to only grind out two trials over and over again.
  4. Watching my attributes in the LS trial, on my Fire/SS with a tier 4 cardiac, everything starts out normal. My S/L Res sits at 80 ish % and stays that way until I get defeated. Going to the hospital or hitting RoTP takes my S/L res back down to 71% and makes my endurance woes come back.

It is easily noticeable and repeatable watching your combat attributes.

But I gotta say, I love how you build. I am going to try to squeeze some of your concepts back into my build, keeping Soul Tentacles, and Hand Clap, and definitely adding a 6th slot to FS, my bread and butter. I love butter. Thanks for the build, it definitely opens my eyes to how a slight change in angle can alter something like this.
I thought you were going after ST damage. Not just damage in general, that was my bad. :P
If you were going for ST damage then yeah Soul is going to be your best bet, thanks to gloom. For AoE Damage I think you are going to see a big difference between Soul Tentacles and electrifying fences. I think the first is on a narrow-ish (25%?) cone, while fences has a radius of 10 or so, so you can cast it point blank without jumping out to line it up.
  7. I just want you to take a look at something here.

This is a build that is nearly softcapped to Energy/Neg, Fire/Cold and one small purple away from S/L.

What do you give up? 5% recharge. When you toss a recharge alpha in there, the that difference is pretty much erased except for maybe 1/10th of a second here and there.

So why not go for the best of both worlds, end up with high recharge, higher HP and much much much higher survivability, so if you want to put the damage to the test you can actually survive a hard target wailing on your for 10+ minutes.

Oh yeah and it has 2% higher global damage and an extra dmg proc in haymaker for most likely more DPS. :P
  8. Still just as bad as last time, but with the added bonus of taking none of the advice in the previous thread.

    Burn

There is a fear effect built into enemies where if they are taking too much damage, dying too fast and/or not hitting/defeating the hero their morale can break and they will run away. I think it also kicks in with location based DoT powers. (Rain of Fire, Ice Storm, caltrops, burn patch, etc) They will try to get out of it because it is avoidable.

The power itself does have its fear effects removed, however scrappers don't have the taunt in Blazing aura (as someone mentioned) to get them to override these effects.
  10. I'd like to thank everyone for showing up and being good sports in this league. It was definitely fun teaming with you guys.

As a final note, I'd like to say that Dex I hate you for not banning TK for the final match. But more so, I hate Mebs for talking me into finishing leveling, IO'ing, and Accolading a Rad/Sonic for it 3 days before the match.

GG's this season, you're all dUmb in my book.

    7 Purple Sets?

Right, I was just correcting a blanket statement about tanks and always being outclassed in damage. Luckily, I also mentioned that rather than throwing purples at a build (7 Sets) in this case a WP/SS he'd be better off mixing survivability with a fluid high DPS attack chain. More recharge is not always better when you sacrifice other things to get it. Once you find your best attack chain, you figure out how much recharge you need and build around it.

    Quote:
Those Scrappers probably had low-end builds or didn't optimize for damage. Given equal budgets, a Scrapper build will out-DPS a Tanker build with minimal effort if it is focused on DPS. The differences lie in how much effort a Scrapper has to spend to achieve the same level of survivability as the Tanker. Some Scrapper power sets require giving up a lot of DPS to come close to Tanker survivability.
You said "NEVER out DPS" that's simply not true. I was correcting that statement. I didn't build my tank for ST DPS at all (no gloom, only proc is in KoB, messy chain of Jab/haymaker/KoB and burn) , yet 50 other scrappers who were trying to solo a pylon ended up with slower times. It isn't about what "my tank" can do, its just stating that tanks don't automatically fall behind everyone else. I don't really care about the magical world where everyone has every IO they need and build for the sole purpose of maxing out their ST DPS. Dismissing tanks as low damage that will always fall behind other AT's is just blatantly false, as proven by the people who took the time to level the builds, IO them out, and post times of what they did.

    Quote:
But a SS/FA Brute or ?/FA/fire Scrapper will majorly out dps your FA/SS Tanker.
That's great and all, really. Again in the land where everyone has every IO they need and build for ST DPS at the sacrifice of everything else, I'm sure they can. In City of Heroes, on whatever server. You might find a tank who out DPS's a scrapper or brute, you might find find a scrapper or brute who out DPS's that tank. As evidenced by the results where a Fire/Fire came in at 200 DPS, a Kat/Fire at 175, and another Fire/Fire 244. So I log in and find one who does more, one who does the same and one who does less. Hurrah?

To Blue Centurion - Looking at your build its chasing damage bonuses when you'd get more benefit from slotting Recharge + Procs and establishing a fluid attack chain.

I think something like this would give you exponentially better survivability with better ST DPS. | Copy & Paste this data into Mids' Hero Designer to view the build |

Actually, yes you can. Looking at the Rikti Pylon thread, there were 50 some scrappers who posted with DPS lower than my Fire/SS tank. (Who isn't built for ST DPS) So its very possible to out DPS certain sets.

As for the OP, if you are looking for max DPS, its not so much about how many purples you have, its how about how your build comes together, how many procs it has and how it manages to blend survivability, sustainability (end) and a fluid high damage attack chain out.
  16. Basically your only hope is to find enough ringers to replace your current roster completely. Then we'll have a match.

You listen here Crohan. This Sunday is about BFG trying desperately to get on our level. The best you can hope for in this very short season is going 1-1 with us. If by some miracle you manage to pull stuff together and squeeze out some talent from that mess you call a team you'll be at least equals with the greatness that is the dUmb roster.
  18. Dear Brasil Fancy Girls,

You have 5 days to come up with more ringers, I suggest you get looking. dUmb would like a challenge this time.

Why does no one ever look at the two ties, the win before and the win after that match and think "Hey maybe there was something else going on, on dUmb's side" that caused that result.

Say, Firi trying to play from a hotel room internet and lagging like crazy, and Sir having a similar issue that kept him off near every target. Unfortunately at the time, those were the 8 we had on. Just sayin. The next round we were able to sit those two out for people who showed up late, but had stable connections.

I don't think the issue is we are afraid to fight anyone, ringers or not. Its just what is the point of calling it a playoff when teams are being absorbed, dropped, restructured, etc.
