Quote:In the past this team had a reliable record of allowing things to fall into file 13 especially when they would say things like "let me write that down" now we have this little gem...Don't be daft, they said they are looking into it. That's somewhere below soon in terms of timeliness
"Supergroup Transfers (Including bases)
This is something we anticipated and are actively working on, but it likely wont be ready for City of Heroes Freedoms launch. We are committing to bringing you this service in the future and it wont be just to the VIP server, it will be between any server. It will likely require the Supergroups Super Leader to actually execute the transfer."
I'm holding onto this: "We are committing to bringing you this service"
That means it's going to happen. Not at first, not up front, but it is going to happen... as in, "not just looking into it" ... a step in the right direction.
"it likely wont be ready for City of Heroes Freedoms launch" Yeah, to be expected, which is going to have people asking "when" and "how long do we wait" which could lead to people saying "its been too long they aren't doing anything!"
If it gets to that point I need to stress how important this is: Don't fall silent.
Don't fall silent after saying "We are committed" don't say "Positron was wrong"
That would be a nightmare and I don't use the word lightly. Keep talking to us, keep those lines of communication open, because the people won't forget.
I can hear the voices now, saying "hey this is Positron, and how are those words going to hold water after all that's happened in the past?"
I seriously doubt that Posi would get peoples hopes up just to dash them to bits. I find it hard to believe he would do something like that deliberately. That's not a move someone that's in the business of making money would make.
I think its viable to link every single failure, or let down to lack of budget.
I want to believe that f2p will provide the funds needed to solve all of this games problems.
All the setbacks, lack of production, all things caused by budget constraints will be a thing of the past.
The leader is only as good as the people under him/her and those people are only as good as their budget, which up to this point, has been anemic.
My stance is to give them some breathing space and let things unfold.
I doubt we will see failure.
I want hope. -
this is closer to what I'm going for, this is still in a very rough draft, but I think the finished product will be a worthy entry.
I have alot of RL issues eating up my time, and I'm trying to get done what I can when I can, so please be patient. -
You are absolutely right.
We shouldn't be pulling any punches on this, thing is, I don't want to come across as being hostile, I want to give the team a chance to see what they can or will do before I get all...
-
tell me about it.
so sorry, I really couldn't help myself there. -
Oh yes, Posi,
thank you for the info regarding Supergroup transfers.
I'm so very glad to hear that the team is dedicated to implementing this feature.
I'm very happy to see you mention this feature. I would love to move The Burrow to a more populated server. -VIRTUE- That would help in efforts to actually hold those maze race events; Something Iv'e yet to accomplish due to lack of player population. I would need as many people as I could get, at the very least 20, to hold it the way it should be held.
... that last part didn't sound right.
I'm sure you have seen my posts regarding MMOrgue episode 8, when the host finally did get around to discussing bases or, as it is being identified now in the mmo industry..."Player Housing" things got honest and dismal... but most importantly... honest. Basically player housing is a break from the combat system that allows burned out players to keep an active subscription via creative outlet. In the MMO industry that is life blood. With the proper funding and direction I'd bet my money that updates and improvements to what we have now would ensure the longevity of current subscribers.
back to what was said regarding MMOrgue episode 8
This new feature is a step in the right direction. It's a form of base love, I am all about base love. I wish a warm fuzzy to you. Kudos for finding a way to fit it in the budget!
I have had a few Sg's gen'd before so the /sgrename thing exists, and I'm sure that as with character transfers, a /rename token will be granted as well. /common sense.
Thank you very much Posi.
I greatly appreciate all of your hard work.
I mean that! THANK YOU!

this is just a rough idea of what im going for, i have some better things in the works, but I think it's a good start. this is not an entry, so more to come.

update!
I found the folder all my screenies were hiding in. I had a shortcut on my desktop from the old /cityofheroes/screenshots, and appearantly thats not where the screenies go now.
After bashing my skull I found this directory, /programfiles/ncsoft/cityofheroes/screenshots
-which was hidden- for some reason.
so after a unhide I have everything back to ab normal and will be working on getting this boat out of the harbor.

Quote:Uh.Woah woah woah...
One of my main characters is a VEAT. So I decided to go free, I can't play it? What happened to "you won't lose anything you've already unlocked or payed for"
Seriously, this could keep me from playing at all
I have a brute <my main> that I changed to blueside, its GR content... that I paid for... and it's my understanding that said content -that I paid for- will be locked out should my time lapse and I go f2p.
Um...
not trying to be offensive, I -do- like the direction freedom is going, the devs have my support and I know there is a bit of sacrifice to be made, but this lockout for something I paid for? I dunno. Maybe some kind of compromise can be reached. -
this issue of my screen-caps not working has me baffled. Iv'e tried the print-screen to a graphics editing program, but it captures entirely too much of what I don't need.
Iv'e troubleshot this thing for what, 4 days now?
with no response from tech support on this issue and no sight of anything being done about it, I guess I wasn't meant to enter the contest.
that bums me out. I spent a good 24 hrs building something in the hopes that my screen-cap issue would be resolved.
Whatever. -
If I was a Developer I would pay very close attention to every little detail regarding the importance of a base editor, specifically, how it provides the downtime when the player is burned out on action related content that would give the player reason to stay actively subscribed to the game.
-
around the 26 mark in reference to SWG they were talking about how appalled they were that there was no "up and down" axis included in the editor.
I nearly spilled my drink... -
oh here we go, this one hits home
"The silence from developers is scary, disappointing, and a lingering dark blotch on their overall PR efforts. Is there anything they could say at this point to make up for these bad decisions?"
so, we have people that aren't connected to "say, don't say" rules talking about the reality of the situation that bases are in. The ugly truth. This is what others coming to the game are going to see. I'm holding onto the hope and faith that Paragon will resolve this issue when they get the funds. It is important. -
If player hideouts are coming for champs, then I can feel the pressure starting to mount for a competitive update to city's base editor.
-
-
things are really starting to look up for this game.

Quote:And Babs got rolled on everything he brought... repeatedly. No, Posi got constantly rolled on his dominator. Castle got rolled on his Ice tank.
Shut down, turned off, killed and clowned.
It was very lol @ devs... there was alot of smack talk involved.. which lead to...
"THIS is why we are making changes to pvp"
Much profanity ensued. That's NOT how you make friends.
You can't tell me they didn't take it personally.
I learned a-lot that day.
Thanks Ed. -
same here.
also am having an issue with screencaps not working properly. -
is anybody else having a screencap issue? Iv'e tried reassigning the key, Iv'e scanned my hard drive, the pics just aren't taking. Is this a bug?
-
aggravating. screen cap isn't working for some odd reason.
-
trying to get something together. I want to make an entry.
-
I'd buy THAT for a dollar!

Quote:thank you. Can't find the thread that gave the best description of them right now (there've been a LOT of redname posts this week!
), but basically:
They're a story arc given to you by one of the signature heroes (Freedom Phalanx or Vindicators) or signature villains (Arachnos Patrons and their lieutenants) that has you going on an adventure alongside the contact. There will be 2 arcs offered each month (one Hero, one Villain), and each arc will be three to five missions long, with all new arcs the following month. (Not sure if that means the old ones disappear, but I personally doubt it.)
That's about all the info we have on them right now, but it's one of the perks you can either buy on a Free/Premium account or get for free by being a VIP subscriber.
Im curious to see more. -
I missed this, its news to me. What are signature story arcs? how do they work? I'm looking forward to the second part as a few friends paid me up through October with time cards. hope it doesn't detract anything from those rewards >.>

Quote:actually it does, because in order for something like that to happen, that would mean a strike team would be dedicated to those efforts.Noticed it. Means nothing in context of them ever revisiting base features, really.
I seriously doubt that they would just work on that feature alone and not tackle others.
As it stands, funds are allocated towards my home business. I'll try to find some way to /resub this is worth sticking around for. all this change coming... so very excited. so much to look forward to. very happy about this.
as far as I'm concerned it's the kind of talk I was hoping for, they don't have to say when, or how, or what, they just have to say that they are. and they are. that's good enough for me.
I urge the community to refrain from the raging@ and just let things take this plotted course.
think cruise control.
