Quote:Well, I gave WoW 2 hours most every night, and long sessions at the weekends, for the whole of my first free month before i decided that it blew. And I didn't have a partner there to duo with me, buff me, give me loads of inf and pay for my account either. In all fairness, most CoX players won't even give WoW that much of a try before determining it is not for them.
lol but we're still friends, anyway. In fact, she came round this evening and we watched the Sound of Drums and ate pizza. You know, as proper mates.

...it's a good play and recommended.
I second that, and if anyone would like an alternative, In-Character review, there's one here.

Quote:Don't tell those rabid maniacs in the Euro lounge that, they'll start complaining that they're getting the shaft again.Actually Aeon did say he would use the submissions as a pool to draw from for DCs, and I'm assuming the nominees would probably be the first ones he'd take a look at.
So that doesn't GUARANTEE Dev's Choice but I'd say it offers a pretty good shot at it.

Quote:It'd make more sense then to require that nominees abstain from voting in the category that they were nominated in, which is what many of us presumed was the case until you said otherwise.
Lol I must be some kind of ubernaive, I just assumed that nobody would vote for their own out of, er, I don't know, some kind of 'that just wouldn't be cricket, what?' type attitude.
I think The Audition is really excellent in loads of ways, but the reason i haven't voted for the Multi-arc category yet is cos i was torn so much for my second place between Turg Fiction and The Lost Choir.
However, I guess that if i can vote for myself, then their loss is, er, CoW's gain?
MULTI-ARC CATEGORY
First place: The Consequences of War Part 1 #227331 and Part 2 #241496 @Dalghryn
Second Place: The Audition Part 1 #221240 and Part 2 #221241 @MRCaptainMan
See, allowing me to vote for my own arc also lets me sort of use my vote to give an extra bit of oomph to the arc I think is the best in this category. Obviously, picking CoW for first place means I want it to win more than any other arc in the category. By picking my own arc for second place, I'm depriving Turg or MrSquid of a point that could give them the gold over CoW. Which doesn't seem fair, tbh, but I can also justify it by thinking that I wouldn't mind winning either, and giving myself a point can't do any harm there. I guess it depends on the reasoning behind voting. Am I rating based on my opinion of the arcs' quality, or on which arc I want to see awarded?
I'd like this particular rule amended somehow for the 2010 Player Awards. Otherwise, it'll just become a standard that nominees vote for themselves...well, if they want to win, I guess.
Or maybe an alternative rating system could be used! Maybe we could have a fixed number of final arcs, say 4, and every voter HAS to rank all four in order, best to last, 1 to 4. That would be interesting.
It's all very intriguing, I can't wait to see who gets the glory and bunting and parades etc.

Just want to sayn that what Sam's complaining about in his OP didn't really bother me at all when i was a new player (in fact i found it quite cool to see the City on my way around it), and it still doesn't bother me now, 5 yrs on.

Quote:I see it more like this: i'm a celtic fan from glasgow, and she says 'i love football too!...i support rangers.'That sucks, but as far as gaming goes, her liking WoW and you liking CoH is akin to her liking conventional positions and you liking having your little buddies hooked up to a car battery.
i have 2 pcs. I was all set to get a second account. She rolled a new toon, played the tutorial, did just one mission and then declared she preferred wow and that was that. Rubbish attempt at giving coh a fair go if you ask me.
She also put far too much salt into food when she cooked.
Eco
EDIT: too much salt for me, i mean. I'm sure theres a man out there who loves salty food and wow and if she finds him i hope theyll be very happy. -
Quote:Lol yes, there were a good number of incompatibilities, actually, but the WoW thing is the most amusing. And it was more mutual than me just breaking up with her, although i was ithe first to bring the subject up.You broke up with your european girlfriend who btw is european because she plays a game you don“t like?
Was ther some other reason you broke up with your european girlfriend?
But i should have known, really, after the WoW appeared. I mean, there i was, playing CoH, and she was right there in my living room playing WoW on her laptop literally behind my back!
Honestly, CoH has ruined me for other games.

Quote:Waitaminute - they're doing a Praetorian RI in GR too?I do want to see what the Praetorian Rogue Isles look like. I would not be surprised if it the resistance were based there. I don't think we've seen Praetorian versions of Arachnos's archvillains. I know Praetoria isn't a "mirror" universe persay, but I want to know how they're going to handle that.
Coool.

Bah!
My awesome cool new GF turned into a nightmarish harridan in but a few short months!
She lured me into a relationship with claims of being a gamer, and then when i was well and truly lulled, revealed The Hideous Truth - She plays WoW!
Today, with heavy heart, I asked her for the keys to my flat back, and cast her out like a leper.
So. Downside - she really liked Doctor Who, and I'll miss watching it with her. Upside - Next!
Eco, always the optimist.
EDIT: She was European, btw. -

Oh, as for some of the new tags the thread has picked up:
[LIST][*]"isn't anonymity fun" -- my web page is in my signature; it has my real name and a link to my Facebook page. Since I've been on the Internet for ~25 years it probably wouldn't be too hard for someone to find out pretty much anything they wanted to know about me.
Ah...ego.

Geek, you have to nominate 2 arcs for the categories you're voting for, I think. I'm no statistician, but only voting for one in the serious category might unfairly skew the results? Bubba?

Part of my initial faffing about is to move the nav window to the far left top and the target window the the center. It baffles me why the defaults are set in the way they are. Who wants the map filling up the center of the screen? That target wondiw is perfectly sized to be up there in the middle, and with the map scaled down to minimum, it fits nicely in the top left without obscuring much.

Happy Birthday to my fellow Welshman!

Down in one, of course!

...possibly. I'm not sure the Magna Carta counts, tbh.
But anyway, what better exemplufies the concept of Democracy than the Vote?
One human, one vote! Its the superpower everybody (living in a democracy and legally eligible) has!
Use that power for good, people of Europe!
What am I talking about?
The 2009 MA Player Awards, of course!
There may not be a Best European Arc Category anymore, but your votes still count and are needed, and if you do want to vote for a European arc, then vote for mine! I'm Welsh!
-but only vote for it if you've played it and the competition and honestly think its the best. Seriously. Its not the winning, its the taking part etc.
The votung thread is in the MA Stories and Lore forum.

The voting's open till Nov 9th, i think.

I'll submit The Echo, Arc ID in my Sig.
I wrote it before the MA was launched, and then adjusted it and, well, you can tell from its ID how 'old' it is.

I'm European.
Yahtzee isn't, I don't think, but he has a lot of fans who agree with his opinions. I for one am a little more liberal than he is, but everything he likes, I like. Silent Hill 2...ah...

Quote:Fixed it for PvE, with my tongue firmly in my cheekyes and no.
To the dedicated PvP gamer, this is heart-breaking news, and the players who routinely buy hard-core games for PvP will stay away.
However, the class of gamer that grew up on UT and Quake makes up a smaller percentage of the buying public than those who entered gaming through The Secret of Monkey island. The Secret of Monkey Island players won't care about the junk matchmatching, the lack of dedicated servers, or anything else. They just buy what Ben 'Yahtzee' Croshaw says is good...
and there's little reason to doubt that from a technical aspect, CoD MW2 IS the next greatest FPS.
So while this move is going to lessen the number of purchases made of the game, it's not going to impact those sales enough to tell Activision this is not the way gaming which includes a PvP element should be going.
My general opinion as someone who doesn't enjoy PvP very much is that no matter what my personal preferences are, choice in gaming is a good thing, and so long as I get what i want from a game, if others get something different as well then that can only be good for me too, as more units will sell and the company who releases the game will have more reason to make more of the same and more profits to keep them afloat and in the business. Heck, they can stick a PvP mode in Day of the Tentacle II if it'll help it get made to the same standards that the first one was made to
The same mentality that is causing your particular problem here was responsible for the awful dumbing-down of Deus Ex 2; the attitude that good is good enough to shift enough units, and they don't need to go the extra mile. It's very sad. I feel that we in CoH are lucky to have a Dev team who largely doesn't think like this.

My personal opinion, having just learnt that there will be a COD4MW2 from your poat, is:
WOOHOO!!! cOD4 rocked! More more yes please! ...eh, whats tgat about servers?
Oh, pvp? Meh, dont care. Just as long as the single-player campaign is as well written and designed as the first game.
However, since i dont hate PvPers, you have my sympathies at being deprived of sth you want.

Ps COD 5 isnt as good as COD4 imo. Its all too green and muddy.
