Quote:I like the fact that users can choose to disable it. I also like being able to randomly leave feedback for people without having to leave the thread and open a PM. Yesterday I left feedback for people I know and people I don't know. The vast majority of it was positive and the negative concerned only what was expressed in the post and only if it was a pretty harsh post. I was careful not to rate anything based on my feelings for the author and I tried to be constructive. I'd much rather give out positive feedback than negative.Indeed.
One of the very first things I disabled. I was rather surprised to see it, given how the old "stars" were removed.
I like it when I can leave genuine positive feedback for authors I don't really like most of the time, too. Both because I think positive reinforcement can help modify behavior and because, even when it doesn't do that for the author, it does help me modify my own feelings about the person or what's going on. Sometimes having just one positive thought about someone I generally dislike can help me have a less stressful and more pleasant day. -

Isn't it Diet for a reason? Wasn't it created to be a leaner version with less filler? If that was the intent, seems that's a reason for it not to be an overflow channel. Why would anyone order a Diet Coke when they want the real thing? And likewise, wouldn't the person who wants the Diet version be upset when someone else came along and changed it to the regular version? There was a reason for creating Diet JFA in addition to the regular version. The reason for having the alternate Diet version wouldn't go away just because JFA is full.
-
It's full. That seems like a perfectly good reason for people to be unhappy with its performance and to make a change so that active players can join. If he, or anyone, were really "over-moderating" the channel as you say, why wouldn't he or the other mods just start kicking people from the channel if the people haven't been on in a while? That would be over-moderation. This allows people who want to join the new channel to do so, people who want to stay in the current channel to do so, and people who want nothing to do with either to form their own channel and/or ignore JFA entirely. Seems like a win-win to me.
The only drama I see is the drama you keep trying to create. -

I'm Miss Informed. I just want to say that being chosen as this month's Miss August is like, a compliment I'll remember for as long as I can. Right now I'm a freshman in my fourth year at UCLA, but my goal is to become a veterinarian, 'cause I love children.
Oh, and also, "Duck Magnum, duck!" -
but the forum says you lie! I don't know about everyone, but I spot checked a few birthdays for people I know (including my own) and the forum had jacked them all up. I think it's because the old forum only listed the month and day and the new forum defaults to the month, day, and year.
So go forth, people, and fix your birthdays! -
Quote:Everyone is going to have a different "why." Right now, you're giving some people an additional why: because you've just let everyone know how much it bothers you. You've just painted a giant target on your back for anyone with "I'm not touching you" syndrome, like the guy I knew who only ate corn nuts only at staff meetings. When none of us reacted to it, he eventually stopped. (Only to start again as soon as he got transfered into a new department.) I'm not saying it's ok to "blame the victim," but you should understand that if you make it attractive for those kinds of people to spend their time pestering you, they will. It's not your fault they do it and you can't control them, but you do have control over your own actions and reactions. I'd urge you to do what you can to prevent being an attractive target for this kind of behavior and you will likely find that most of it stops. All I want to know is "Why?"
Is it fun? Do you get jollies off from it? Is your middle name Schadenfreude? Do you like to kick people for no reason? Do you simply use the anonymity of the internet to cause other people grief? I'm simply trying to understand why someone would do something that, to me, is totally abhorrent.
Some kinds of harrassment need to be reported. Others are better just being ignored. This is the kind that is better off being ignored. No one's physically harming you and you have listed very few examples of it happening, so it doesn't seem like it's an ongoing issue or burdon. I'm sorry your feelings are hurt, but that happens sometimes. Learning to cope with that is a useful life skill and one you may want to get started on, because I've yet to see signs that the ******** are dropping off the internet. -

Quote:I understand it not keeping "long quote-trains" or quote pyramids, but it seems that if Person B has already quoted Person A and I'm replying to both, making me locate and tag Person A's original post as well as Person B's response is an unnecessary extra step. That's not what Multi-quote's for - it's to quickly and easily select multiple different posts made by someone and format them for you to easily respond to each. It's not supposed to keep long quote-trains.
You want to include what someone quoted in their reply, quote the original post too.
Thanks to TehVyze, Enrious2, and Manoa for the examples and explanation. -
Quote:Thanks, Manoa! That was the missing piece. In other words, if you wanted to quote Kauket and also the bit Kauket quoted from Kat in your post Missy, you would have to hit the multi-quote button on both Kauket's post and Kat's posts. The multi-quote button will highlight red for each post you have selected to quote.

Quote:Bad spelling bothers me, but I worry more about content, clarity and intent than I do about spelling. If a person types/spells some words wrong and I think it's unintentional and the idea is clear, fine. If someone is trying to express an idea that has no clarity and the spelling is making it even less clear, that's a problem. If someone has an ok idea but it's made less clear by IM/AOL speak, I'm less likely to give the idea credit. If someone can't be bothered to take the time to add an "a" and an "e" to an "r," then why should I bother to spend any of my own time on his or her idea?EDIT- Makes me wonder whether these people realise that they could be dealing with someone with learning difficulties or some sort of mental impairment, however small it may be!
That said, I haven't rated posts on spelling of any kind. The only negative feedback I've given has been in response to posts that are little more than name-calling or uncalled for meanspiritedness toward others. The vast majority of feedback I've given has been positive and I haven't "signed" any of it. -
Ignore it if it doesn't make sense and learn from it if it does. Other than that, don't worry about it. There are plenty of people who just like to say nasty things to/about others just because they can, especially if they're anonymous. It's not worth worrying about. If you find the good outweighs the bad and you think it's unwarranted, then turn it off publically and minimize the section on your CP, as someone else suggested.

Quote:He's already said EMT in real life and wants to emulate that in the game. EMTs do not, and aren't supposed to, focus on "prevention."You've been told in other threads, but you're perpetuating an incredibly negative stereotype, and having two resurrection powers does not give anyone confidence in your abilties.
Weren't you taught that prevention is better than a cure?
Why are you so worried about what stereotype he's perpetuating? He can play however he wants and shouldn't have to defend his chosen AT or Empathy style to you or to anyone else. My first character is an Empath and I don't give a damn what kind of stereotypes other Empaths are out there working on. I don't "rock the aura" and never have. I have and slot my blasts and use my Nova whenever I can. I let my own personal reputation speak for me, not the stereotypes others perform to. -
Quote:Agreed. I do a lot of Task Forces, so I would rather have these on my characters than most any of the other day job powers. Heck, even my Empath wouldn't cry if she had two Rezzes. Don't let the Howling Twilighters have all the fun of being able to Rez more than one person at a time. One other side note...
I've actually been more focused on the Ally Rez (University/Hospital) and Ally Heal (Midnighters(once unlocked)/Hospital) on my Alts more than anything else.
Thank you for the time... -
Quote:It's absolutely worth it. While you may log out at the Base Teleporter each session, there are many of us who do not. There are, for example, lots of other badges to get and powers to charge. There are lots of people who are getting other badges. There are lots of people who can't be bothered to log out anyplace specific and don't care about badges or accolades that need charging. The Vet power is permanent. Once you have it, you have it on all characters, even ones without Accodades or access to an Ouro portal. You can use it in combination with other powers. Why not have two or more powers to get you where you want to go? If you're playing Heroes, there are plenty of big zones and hazard zones with no base teleporter and a power like this is useful, especially if I don't have to charge it up.Most of my toon now start with being parked at the base portal for the bonus pres for my SG, but once you gain the BP badge and the patrol XP badge you gain the Rapid Response Member Badge/Trouble Maker accolade and along with it charges for day job base teleporter, which works exactly like the vet reward one, but with half the recharge time.
So, is it worth it? Yes, it means you have to earn charges for it, but that takes almost no effort. should it be replaced, and if so, with what?
Anything that helps me get to where I need to be without passing through multiple zones or crossing from one end of a zone like Indy Port to the other is good by me. The more ways I have to get around, the better. -
Quote:Click the Preview Post button. It's right beside the Submit Reply button.
I do, but I miss the feature on the old forums where I could check a box to preview all posts before a final submit. Now I have to remember myself, which is certainly not the end of the world, but it's an extra step I have to make sure to do now which I didn't have to before. -
Apparently not. I tried to use the multi-quote feature on your last post, in which you had quoted Katfood, but it only got the quote from you. That's the second time I tried the feature and it did the same thing both times: left out all but the last quote.

It all depended on how you set up your original NCSoft account, I think. When I set up my original account, there was an option to choose a different password for the forum than for the game. Until now, my account has always had forum a passwords that was different from my game password. I'm with Mac on this one; I preferred having separate passwords. Off to the official suggestions posts!

They weren't better, they were just familiar. They did look nicer, I think, but they didn't function as well as they look. Once we play around in the new system and get used to it, I think people will like the new system just fine.
I do miss the option to automatically preview all posts before submitting them for real. I haven't figured out how to make that work here. -
Quote:This. I think if you do your 1-50 blog without any Power Leveling, it could be pretty neat. I wish you luck with that. That said, please don't demonize AE and the story arcs there. Playing AE arcs does not automatifcally PL anyone. You have to go in there with that as your intent.Even before AE many, many players weren't leveling toons through content.
There is a lot of good content there, much of it not on the Dev Choice lists, and I think it's a shame that so many people seem to assume ANYTHING in the AE equates power leveling. You can get from 1-50 playing only AE arcs and learn how to play and level at a normal pace.
To borrow an old slogan: AE doesn't level characters, players level characters. How they choose to do that has little to do with the MA feature itself. -
Thanks to TJ and Manoa for posting helpful information!
