Quote:I agree, but I look around at other MMOs, and I see the same thing. If anything, CoH gives out a lot more information than other MMOs I've seen, which isn't saying much. The whole industry breeds evil marketing fiends who seem to be out to turn away customers rather than attract them.I really think PP is right in one respect, the marketing dept could do more. This is a great game, with loyal customers, of which I am one, but I have a deep dislike for teh marketing dept of this game. I know that is rather sad as I have never met any of them, but that is the way of things.
Although Going Rogue doesn't fill me with anticipation, I certainly agree that some occasional (weekly) releases of news tidbits would be good and healthy for the game. And if I got more of those tidbits, I might become more interested in the expansion. -
You're telling that to Perfect Pain? Perfect Pain was in the Champions Online beta testing. She received a lifetime subscription to the game as a gift. She left CoH to play Champions. She was quite active in the Champions forums. Then she eventually got too annoyed with Champions, got a refund on the lifetime subscription, and came back to CoH.
How could you not have noticed all her posts about that??
(Okay, most of those posts were in another forum area that you probably don't visit.)
Personally, I can always fall back on The Sims 3 if I get tired of CoH, but since I've been around so long without getting tired yet, I expect to keep playing CoH until the servers shut down. -
Well, I'm still playing. I still enjoy the game because of what it is, not what it will be. If an expansion comes along someday and improves things, so much the better.
My anticipation of new content is always balanced by my concerns over trends in new content. More team content that I won't be doing? Meh. Graphic updates to slow the game down? Meh. I never know how much I'll be able to use the new content, so I don't look to new content to keep me interested. If the current content wasn't worth my time, I'd quit and find another game. But that's not likely to happen any time soon. -
This would guarantee that I never do the mission again. I've never done the Valentine's Day mission. There's a reason to require a team for Valentine's Day. I would hate to see gratuitous forced teaming for other events.
-
None of my characters can get these costume pieces due to my teaming deficiencies, so I disapprove of the suggestion! Villains can share the pain of my heroes!

If PVP offered some good character development rewards, as well as some good plots, I might...
...I just might...
No, I still wouldn't. I'm just not the competitive type.
(Plus, the PVP community further encourages me to stay far away from PVP.) -
Quote:Madame of Mystery (downgraded to elite boss) turned out to be a very reasonable fight for my Ill/Rad controller, Claws/Regen scrapper, and Katana/SR scrapper.I wonder what some of the people posting here think about the Madame of Mystery then...
Any of my other heroes who don't do lethal damage drop that mission. The Psychic Cleaver doesn't provide enough of a benefit and/or MoM's resistances are too high and/or her regeneration rate is too high, making it an unfair fight for most of my heroes.
(Granted it's much more fair than the original version, in which she didn't downgrade from AV status. I'm happy now that a few of my heroes can beat her, and that I can drop the mission if I want. A more fair encounter would be better, but I'll take what I can get.) -
With Ninja Run, I can get gold on the ski run. With a "perfect" run (for me), I can get silver on the bobsled run. Inertial Reduction improves my chances of getting silver, but also makes me more vulnerable to flying off the course. I've never been able to get gold on the bobsled run, after many many runs. I'm just happy when I manage to get silver, and I usually don't even worry about getting that, because I can't depend on getting Inertial Reduction and I don't want to keep trying for a "perfect" run.
Whatever it takes to get gold on the bobsled run, my reaction time just isn't up to the task. -

Quote:Hmm...All those 'missing' badges are showing up for me on the Candy Keeper on the Union EU server...
More investigation required...
Ah. I see. It's just Heart of Light/Darkness that I can't seem to get. The others didn't show up because I was looking for them with characters who already had them.
So just Heart of Light and Heart of Darkness. -
They were all available at the ski lodge last year, but I don't see them available there this year.
-
They're not missing as in I don't have them any more, they're missing in that I don't see where I can get them for characters who never got them before.
-
I can't seem to find the following:
Cold Front
Gifted
Heart of Light/Heart of Darkness
Holiday Spirit/Scrooge
They were available through the Candy Keeper last year. Have they been moved someplace else? Is the Candy Keeper being stingy to me for some reason? Or are those badges simply no longer available?
Edit: It's now just Heart of Light/Darkness that I can't find. -
So why was there no advance notice of the Winter Event dates?
Is marketing out to destroy us all??
(That's a rhetorical question. Of course marketing is out to destroy us all. It's in their nature.) -
Quote:That's what I usually do. I beat Nosferatu once, with my Ill/Rad Controller, but he's a bit much for most of my characters, especially in confined quarters. It's not a climactic part of the story, so I have no hesitation in dropping that particular mission.I take it I should just forget about Nosferatu and drop the mission?
Nossie shows up in an ambush in one of the Ouroboros TFs. I remember trying out that TF on the test server, and my stalker faceplanting before I even realized that an enemy had rushed up behind me. -
Suiren, Natural MA/Regen Scrapper: My first level 50 character. She was my scout for the 40s hero content.
Hot Topic, Magic Fire/Fire Brute: My first villain on the live servers and my first level 50 villain. She was my scout for the 40s villain content.
Yukihime, Magic Ice/Ice Blaster: My favorite character. She was my main character until she got stuck with archvillains blocking her path at level 37. Half a year later I got past the archvillains, but ran out of missions at level 38. Suiren caught up and passed her by, thanks to some improvements to the XP gains. Eventually I managed to get Yukihime to 40 thanks to some supergroup help and a lot of Warburg missions, and she became my third level 50 character. Fortunately that upper 30s gap no longer exists.
Birdy, Science Inv/SS Tanker: Birdy was my very first character. I created her just to try out the game mechanics, and to try out flight. I didn't expect to keep her, due to serious problems I had with both Invulnerability and Super Strength. But the problems were solved by some key power buffs, so I kept Birdy around.
Cerise Sinclair, Magic Thugs/Dark Mastermind: Her role was to do all the content that Hot Topic missed due to AVs. By the time she started out, the AV-> EB feature was in place.
Fantasm, Mutation Ill/Rad Controller: My most powerful character, Fantasm had the distinction of beating all the Praetorians, as well as other key EBs that I tend to avoid (such as Nosferatu). She's not as fast as some of my other 50s, but she can handle just about anything the standard missions throw at her.
Risommer, Mutation Energy/Regen Stalker: My favorite villain. And by the way, I don't do PVP. For some reason, Energy/Regen is the only Stalker combination that works well for me, and it works very well indeed. -
Inertial Reduction does that to me. I didn't have that problem with Ninja Jump.
I think the fastest way down is still Inertial Reduction, if your reflexes are capable of dealing with it. (Mine aren't.) And if you don't suffer lag during the run. And if you can find somebody to give it to you, if you don't have it yourself.
With Ninja Run, there's still no way I can get the gold medal on the bobsled course, but I can manage it (barely) on the slalom course. -

Something to be aware of for this Holiday Season: Owners of the Natural booster pack will have another option for improved ski control.
Yes, I'm sure most everybody already has Super Jump or some other jumping power. Strangely enough, some of my characters don't. Except now they all have Ninja Run! I tried out Ninja Run on the ski slopes on the test server, and it does a great job of boosting my times on the ski runs. I expect this to help me get quite a few ski medals when the event goes live.
Like any jumping power, the power improves your control and speed while you're sliding. No actual jumping required for the speed increase. Just turn on the toggle and your sliding will be improved. -
Quote:That would be great for me. None of my characters has the Roman costume items or the witch hat, and I'm not likely to get them unless they become available through some means other than the current TFs.I'm surprised they haven't just made a vet reward badge that globally unlocks locked *earnable* (not purchased) costume pieces like Vanguard, Roman, Rularuu, Auras, etc at level 1. It seems like something that would be beloved by everyone who has been hanging around for 6 years and have probably had to go through the tedious chore of unlocking costume pieces a dozen times over.
By the way, I now have my 66 month veteran reward. I'm not sure what happened to cause the delay, but it looks like the support people fixed it. -
For now, I just want my 66 month reward. It's 20 days overdue. I just sent in a support ticket. I haven't seen any information in the forums that suggests it would be arriving late.

I wouldn't have minded the length of the Halloween event at all if I had something to keep me going during the darkness. If the ToT spawns had been the same as the previous years, I would have stuck with it to try to get all the ToT badges for all my characters. But the new spawns burned me out.
