Sorry, don't get this remark at all, that means they work hard introducing PvE players to PvP (including IIRC some devs or community reps), they do a lot for this community, what do you do ?

There's probably some tankers, brutes, and scrappers that would welcome the effect.

What you were probably thinking was something that granted a zone wide taunt aura to the player. That would cause the player to attract the attention of everything in the zone, closest things first, seventeen at a time.

Which would be a farming bonanza the likes of which we haven't seen since Rads stopped herding all of Perez Park to the gates with debuff toggles.

Logging in your Blaster would be suicide, but logging in a high level tanker with a damage aura would be an ATM machine. If anything, the problem would be getting enough things to aggro you, with all the other farming tankers logged in simultaneously. That would be a strange, strange week before the devs reversed that one.
It actually vaguely made me think of two old bugs:

Getting your O-portal to tank for you

CoV beta where assassin strike did the right amount of taunt for its damage and pulled the next 4 rooms
  6. I'd pay 400 paragon points to be able to store an extra 10 emails at a time and for the removal of the 15 second timer between emails to your own global.

I have a couple of toons that basically exist in AE and need to launder huge numbers of tickets on bronze rolls. Because of the stupidly low restrictions on base storage, I email them across to alts on a server I don't play on as much, where I have spare storage and alts that can sell 36 items at a time. I've not hit the 150 limit, but agree that emails to your own global shouldn't count against this.

I also really wish you could email salvage in stacks of 10, when commons are 200K+ and I have 10 on a different server, emailing them separately is painful.

I didn't actually do the conversion, but if you click convert, move the radio button off "in set conversion" to "out of set conversion" so the cost changes to 1 converter, the window top right says "Rarity: uncommon".

Edited for clarity now I can get back in game
  8. Uncommon set: Undermined defences
Orange (rare) IO: Undermined defences: Recharge

What should it convert to if you convert to an IO of the same rarity ?

The IO doesn't take any rare salvage to make so I'm guessing should be yellow, but I'm concerned that people will not read the box on the converter screen that says it converts to an uncommon, and feel they've been conned out of their converter.

    Your DXP Plans

Had little enthusiasm for DXP this time, I'd earmarked it for levelling my staff stalker.

Brute 42-50 basically acquiring TFC in the process.

Lots of Moonfires across several toons.

And (in common with a lot of other people I suspect, server population was lowest I've ever seen in DXP) more real life than I've ever had in a DXP weekend.
  10. Am I right in thinking that as Europe hasn't moved to summer time yet, this is actually 11-6 british time ?

Err wrong, plenty had it on the first evening. I'm in UK, so had 5-8 hours less time after the patch than an american, and got to 28 without doing any farming. While they have little effect on team play, this means I'm not prepared to solo my troller as it means I'm desperately slow if I lock stuff down to start with.

These bugs make the game look terrible on its biggest showcase when lots of people come back to play (double XP), marketing disaster.

Other games will have a patch the day after a major release (and need less than an hour to apply it to a bigger client), sometimes I feel this game is way behind in its standards of service.
  14. Anybody else notice any server synchronisation issues when it all came back up. I was crafting when it all went down.

I bought a load of salvage on the AH and with tickets, crafted 20+ IOs and emailed some off.

The enhancements in my trays were gone, I got the salvage/recipes back, this is fine.

The enhancements I'd emailed off (nothing good) were still in the emails, but I got the recipes and salvage back (oops).

The salvage I'd bought with tickets was gone and not 100% sure, but I don't think I got the tickets back (boo).

Not sure how the AH fitted in with this, it looks like some of the game servers are rolled back to slightly different times.
  15. REALLY REALLY irritated that staff is not out for double XP. It seems to have been ready for weeks.

Even though it's the set I've been waiting for for years, I think I'm going to ignore it as a protest, given that everything about this release reeks of the sort of cynical manipulation of the microtransaction model that many people were worried about. Delay to space out releases, more paid for powersets, very few weapon options with I'm sure a load of paid for ones coming etc.
  16. As a postscript I built something very close to the above, and it's great at farming, less so for normal play but /fire will always be a bit squishy. I left out the two sets of 5 purples, replacing the ragnaroks with posi blasts, and when I respec, will rejig slightly and replace the hecatombs with 6 ToDs, and the 6 oblits in whirling smash with 5 ATIOs.

Oh and in regards to the hypothetical question "What if Mommy and Daddy won't pay for it?" That's called parenting. Mom and Dad have every right to tell their life sucking parasite that if he or she wants to spend money on a video game then he or she needs to get a job, get good grades, whatever conditions they want. They even have the right to say "No." without any explanation.

The EULA still requires players be 18 or have a parent/guardians permission to play the game under Section 9. ACCOUNT ACCESS AND PERMISSIBLE ASSIGNMENT.
Try being in South America from where NCSoft won't accept credit card transactions because of the amount of fraud. (I don't think this has changed, but certainly used to be the case). You can subscribe on a time card but GL buying points/invention licence.

To answer the person that said allowing the enhancement bonus from IOs was a bad idea due to frankenslotting, that's why I said it should be scaled down (much as happens when you exemp). The idea would be to put you in a similar position to if you had SOs. If you reckon a lvl 50 dual IO is a total of +53%, an SO is say 33-38 (+0/+3 can't remember exactly), scaling down by 1/3 would give you something close.

People disagreeing with your option is *NOT* the same as them "attacking" you. They just disagree with you on what you deserve/want.
It's only a real problem in 2 circumstances:

1: you already have 2 fully IOd builds - say a stone tank with granite and pre granite builds.

2: the lack of IOs requires a complete redesign, eg a fire armor toon with -KB IOs who now has to take 2 or 3 more powers to get knockback protection.

And you won't be anywhere close to as powerful if you had a decent IOd build before, and yes end use does suffer unless you reduce your damage or recharge significantly by slotting seriously for end reduction. People who've been around pre I9 know how to do this because we had to, and some builds were borderline unusable before IOs.
  19. I was looking for something similar, but with the balance slightly more towards farming than normal content than the OP. I felt melee defence was more important than S/L as it stacks better with defensive sweep (which does S but not L). My main question is whether to put the brute set proc in and if so where, and where to steal the slot from (or whether to put a full set of brute IOs in and if so where and where to nick the slots from). I was disappointed I couldn't put ATIOs in epic attacks as that was where I was going till I found out I couldn't.

    Premium IO's?

I'm not sure that they have the capability to do this with the code they are working with. You are asking for the same item to behave in two extremely different ways under different circumstances. SCR definitely applies here.

Having them be "off" or "on" based on Subscription status was likely an easier way to code things than trying to figure out how to turn off the the set bonuses and reduce the value of the enhancement and disallow procs and ... well, you see where that is going. That's a rather comprehensive set of rules to try to implement.

If they did try to put something like this in the code, it would likely create a nightmare for making sure it didn't cause problems in other parts of the code. We've seen enough instances of them changing something and it affecting something seemingly unrelated or worse, things that on the internal test servers and beta server worked fine but when put on the Live environment had some really unexpected side effects due to population size or other factors.

I'll go back to what I said previously upthread. The intent of the Hyybrid model was to provide value to their subscribers but at the same time to offer incentives to non-subscribers to either subscribe or make purchases in the Paragon Market. They could have made IO use exclusive to subscribers or only available to subscribers and a specific Reward Tier with no license purchase available.

They had the same decisions to make about several parts of the game that some people consider the "important" parts. What is important for one is not important for someone else. I know of long-time subscribers that haven't gotten interested in the IO system, simply because HO's and SO's worked for them and they had fun playing their characters. I know of long-time subscribers that had no interest in the AE offerings, the incarnate system, the new costume options, new powersets, or any number of other subsystems of the game. They all have different items that are important to them, but not all things in the game do they consider important.

It's a balancing act and I think the Devs (and marketing) did a pretty good job in trying to give a good play experience for free with incentives to either subscribe or purchase items from the Paragon Market.
(was a programmer/DBA for many years)

I would think it's not that simple to make IOs not function, but once you've produced the code to do that, it's a pretty simple few lines of code to change the function to do something else.

I would agree the devs did a pretty good job with the F2P offering, this is the one major error I see. I know people it has stopped coming back to the game, and people who have only come back because of the error a while back where some spurious vet months were awarded and not removed, they would not have come back without IOs or paid for licenses. At least one has since realised how much he likes this game and resubbed.

My worry is that as somebody who plays outside of US peak on Victory, the server population is fairly critical. We can't afford to lose any potential players as it's already really difficult at times to form TFs at lower than 50 and i-trials that need more than 10 people. Premiums won't help the i-trial situation unless they resub, but will help the TFs, meaning I won't log off as I do some evenings when nothing's happening and I might be around when somebody tries to organise an i-trial.

Premium players are getting CoX at absolutely no cost for basically everything up until Issue 9 whereas before Freedom there was not an option. I am very tired of Premiums asking for more more more when truth be told they contribute very little to this game compared to VIPs. You are getting a game for FREE - the same game I had to pay for; for years, to be able to play with "just" SOs. $2 is NOT a lot of money to get access to IOs - if you can't be bothered to shell out $2 a month for them that is your choice. The other option is to pay $15 a month and get IOs and everything else.

If it were me and I could not afford $15 a month I would GLADLY pay $2 a month so I could maintain my IOs if I were not high enough on the Reward ladder to have them unlocked.
I don't think anybody's arguing for people to get full use of IOs as a premium player, just that their IOd toons should be playable out of the box on an approximately even basis to SOd toons, say:

    No set bonuses
Procs and special IOs don't work
    Enhancement bonuses reduced by 25%

would accomplish that. Many premiums are pretty casual even if they weren't before, and having to spend a couple of hours maybe more just sorting out their toons to make them playable (if they had 2 IOd builds) is more than they want to do.

There are other irritants with the F2P offering. I started a second account mainly but not exclusively to address the "can't invite to your own SG" problem, and am paying to get it to T2 so I get SG access and will then go premium. This problem only really exists because of the stupid base storage limits meaning people can't store enough stuff in a communal SG base, and the lack of enough ranks to be able to make the bins secure in a large SG.

My main SG uses a private global chat channel rather than SG chat for 2 reasons.

    1. We were too big to fit in 1 SG, 3 vill and 3 hero groups exist, so not even coalition chat would allow us to talk to each other.

    2. People had their own SGs for the reasons described above.

I will lose access to global chat channels when I go premium. I understand why, to prevent gold spam on the large chat channels, but why not allow access (but not mod rights) to private global channels at T1 ? You're going to either not get invited or get kicked if you start doing the things NCSoft are worried about and won't be able to simply rejoin.
