I know a lot of the guys organise TFs on our forums, but I'm guilty of ignoring most of them so I do need to do them - so join us and I'm in(assuming you're a female character of course and not a loathsome male)
[/ QUOTE ]
What happens if you run into a spider during the TF though? Do you just run away screaming and give up? -
[ QUOTE ]
Hmm... That looks a LOT like Inago, one of the roleplayers at GG. Inago is japanese for Grasshopper!
[/ QUOTE ]
hehe, that's cool. Posts some pics of him if you could. I would really like the see them. I actually wanted someone to create a Tank called the Human Cockroach, so that we could have a kind of a Dynamic Duo thing going(OMG, it's the Human Cockroach and Grasshoppper Boy!!!). Sadly nobody seemed to want to do it. I did make a female counterpart, Hornet Girl, used her in S4 Bantamweight and got the Defiant Championship.
-
I'm not a roleplayer, but I did create a teenaged hero. My MA/SR scrapper Grasshopper Boy. He's like a silly version of Spider-man I guess
-
I know that the Inner Monkey runs a lot of TF's as I've joined them on a couple of occasions lately.
-
Slot of accuracy for gods sake. Focused accuracy alone will not be enough, not even close. Especially if you'll be fighting defense based sets like yourself.

Personally, I'd probably get aim, build up and Hasten sooner. It really gives a nice boost to your damage potential, which can be especially handy at lower levels. Other than that, I don't see any problems, although I don't know much about Fire secondary.

he's 28 atm

so? who needs aim + build up when you've got fireball and FSC? :P

did you even hear of ED? -

How can you have an issue with this?
It's no more wrong than a tank keeping someone perma-taunted or a rad keeping a blaster debuffed. It's making use of the powers as they were meant to be used. If you consider that cheating/poor sportsmanship then you may be playing the wrong game...
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL ur joking right? the dev's imo have no idea how the powers work or how people wud use them, if all powers are being used as they were meant to be there wud have been no changes to them
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the power can only be used in a way that is exactly how the devs intended it. I actually see no other uses for it. I think the same goes for most powers that are abused. I do think that the devs will sometimes underestimate a players ability to utterly abuse something that works well though.

Sonic Cage/DF, is it getting out of hand?
[/ QUOTE ]
in the EU? No, not even close.
in the US? Judging by the posts, maybe, but I can't make a fair judgement based on people posting on the forums. So the only true way to judge this would be to play on the US servers. -
[ QUOTE ]
Just stick a Res to it on Break Frees, it is a Mez effect after all.
[/ QUOTE ]
That would make the whole power pointless though and the last thing these powersets need are more useless powers. The fact that it's unresistable right now makes it useful. I wouldn't mind having some type of counter to it, as long as it's something obscure, but breaking the effect with a simple break free(aka the universal problem solver) would break the whole power.
[ QUOTE ]
It does seem daft a BF doesn't work with it.
[/ QUOTE ]
No it doesn't, that's the whole point of the power. Same as in PVE.
[ QUOTE ]
Well, luckily enough we have very, very little of this on Union. Thing is, a lot of people (from Defiant infact) have said PvP on Union is much better...
[/ QUOTE ]
well it's a quality vs. quantity issue really. Union just has more PVP, more casual PVP'ers. So you can always get into a scrap on Union, which is fun. Defiant has less casual players, so the zones are more empty then on Union, but once the zone fills up, the overal level of PVP is higher.
Also the people on Union tend to whine a little less, or maybe I've just forgotten to turn on broadcast.

[/ QUOTE ]
Both powers you stated there though have very easy remedies, LoS or pure distance between yourself and the caster, cages/bubbles have no such counter...
[/ QUOTE ]
True, but Cages/Bubbles doesn't allow you to affect the person in any way after you've caged/bubbled them. If you perma taunt or debuff someone, you can still attack them. So there is a trade off there. -
[ QUOTE ]
What no moaning about dimension shift/blackhole?
[/ QUOTE ]
Aren't these AoE's? I think the point of Detention Field and Sonic Cage has always been to take out specific people. Dimension Shifting an entire group doesn't give you much of an advantage. Taking out specific targets and disrupting team dynamics that way does give you an advantage. That's how I've always used it. Drop it on a scrapper that's after me, or a tank that's taunting me. It's a quick way to remove someone that I am powerless against otherwise. On my controller it's nowhere near perma though, so I tend to save it for when I absolutely need it. It also tends to screw up our team as well, if I manage to drop it on someone that the damage dealers are targeting.
[ QUOTE ]
There are ways to counter it of course...
[/ QUOTE ]
As far as I know there isn't. I'm not even sure if the power drops after you kill the caster. It's likely though, but I wouldn't call that a sufficient counter. I think there should be some form of counter, but it shouldn't be something that everyone has, as that would make the power too similar to other mezzes. Maybe handle this in a similar way they handle repel resistance for example (stacked kinetic ID's). -
It's about how you can use Sonic Cage and Detention Field to completely take someone out of a fight(they can't use any powers that affect anyone but themselves, it's like phase shift, but offensive). There is no counter to it.
Now, on my Bubble Controller I can't get Detention field even near perma. There is at least a 10 second gap from when the power stops affecting someone, to until i can use it again. The target is affected for like 15 seconds. So personally I don't see a problem there. It's like a panic button, I mostly use it on people that can get through my force bubble, so I don't get two shotted by BS/Inv scrappers or Inv/Nrg Tanks for example. These values aren't even close to the ones in PVE, as in PVE the duration is at least 4 times as long.
On Defenders though, you can get it very close to perma. Xanthus' tested it on Decibellion and he could drop Sonic Cage with a downtime between attacks of 1 second. So you would be in Sonic Cage for a certain amount of time, then it would drop and one second later the person could drop it on you again. If he had speedboost on him, it would have been perma, but then you can't stack it, so it still requires some timing. The duration of the power in PVP is much longer on Defenders. So on Defenders this power can be used to take someone out of a fight completely and permanently. That is a problem.
Now the number of actual Sonic and Bubble Defenders we have running around here in the EU don't really make this much of an issue. I'd say in the EU it's pretty much a non issue. But in the US, like everything else before it, they've starting abusing it like it's the only power in the game. Basically this is what happens when you nerf something.... people "adapt". These powers have been around since I1(Detention Field) and I5(Sonic Cage), but they've just starting abusing it now. This is probably some reaction to the acc debuff nerf and Whirlwind nerf. I wouldn't be surprised if the numbers of Sonics and Bubblers would increase now that they'll be "tweaking" toggle dropping. If you can't toggle drop a Tank or Brute, just perma cage them. That way you won't need to deal with them at all, and completely go for squishies, without any interference.
ps. could you fix the link you posted? It's kinda long and screwing up the forum layout. -
[ QUOTE ]
Heh, dont get me wrong, u did well, i just conccededwith the skill of your bubblers i was bored and went to watch paint dry
damn, wish we had some in sanity ...gratz tho

There was only one of me thank you. Xanthus was just there to look pretty as we all know that Sonic Defenders do not exist.

PS. they have now nerfed my fire tank, ice/nrg and stormie. Im playing a ill/kin at the mo so its bound to be next, DONT start to lvl one!!
[/ QUOTE ]
I guess I'll start leveling my Claws/DA scrapper and Archery/Dev blaster then. We all know those will never be nerfed. They'll be kings of PVP when I9 hits I reckon. -

Anyone out there have a little advice as to what AT/Powerset combo might be worth considering if I want to get into PvP a bit more? I have both CoH and CoX, so all the ATs are open.

[ QUOTE ]
Deviant Flux, Mind/FF Controller
[/ QUOTE ]
Go with that I'd say. Nothing wrong with 2 flavours or repel in PVP. -
for duels maybe, for teamplay no. There's a good chance someone in your team will play a support role and buff your recovery. I've never needed it in teams.
-
Xanthus, which character should I bring again? Mesmer for Bubble visibility or Frostblaze, since you already announced that one as the second targeter?

Telekenisis. Good PVP power, but I hardly used it in PVE. It tends to push most affected targets out of its own radius, thereby dropping the effect. It's good for stacking a hold on bosses though.
[/ QUOTE ]It requires a lot training, but when mastered it can be used to permanently lock down even big groups.
[/ QUOTE ]
I know what you mean, but it's just quicker and easier to use one of the other AoE's instead. If you take them all, you'll have plenty of lock down ability. -
Six slot Mesmerize. Slot it for damage in PVE(2 acc 3 dam 1 sleep, it takes no recharges). Slot it for sleep and range in PVP.... to hit through other peoples Dispersion bubble
Six slot Dominate as well. Add another accuracy, in case you ever plan to PVP.
Can't comment on the single target buffs too much as I don't use them. 3 Defense 1 acc seems reasonable though, if you plan on teaming with larger teams. You'll need to drop them every 4 minutes or so, so if you're just planning on teaming with your GF, you could probably lose the end reducs.
I dropped Confuse myself, as I don't have any use for it in PVP, but it can be handy in PVE. I used to slot mine 2 acc 1 duration, 1 recharge. Suited me just fine.
Mass Hypnosis looks good. Never used it myself, but if I would, that's probably how I would slot it. Sleep has crazy long duration already, so recharges are the best choice.
Telekenisis. Good PVP power, but I hardly used it in PVE. It tends to push most affected targets out of its own radius, thereby dropping the effect. It's good for stacking a hold on bosses though.
Total Domination. no problem there.
Hurdle, also good
Health, drop this and get combat jumping for better jumping height, the immob protection and a slight defense boost(which incidentally will probably be more than the added def effect from the 3 slots on Dispersion bubble)
Dispersion bubble. 3 end reducs should be enough. Slotting this for defense is a waste of slots.
Terrify, Six slot this. Then figure out how to slot it. It really depends on the situation. It can do nice AoE damage if combined with containment and slotted for damage.
Assault.... If you plan on having this on all the time, i'd slot it with 2 end reducs. You'll have plenty of toggles running so every end reduc helps.
Mass Confusion, Go with whaterver Max or anyone else said. I don't have use for it myself.
Tactics... Another toggle, 2 end reducs
Aid other. I'd 3 slot it for heal. Int Redux can't help you much as this just can't be used during a fight at all. I'd slot for range perhaps, so you can try using it from further away, it might work then.
The Epic slotting looks good, I personally would've taken one of the damage attacks from the epic, just for fun.
About PVP performance.... Mind/FF has massive PVP potential, but it does require a bit more specialized build than this. Personally I've gone heavy on the FF powers and light on the Mind powers(dropped most AoE's except Terrify and Total Domination). Force Bubble is a PVP requirement, as is Detention Field. Repulsion field can be handy in Siren's, but not needed if you're quick on your feet. Basically this is the ultimate annoyance toon in PVP and it can work very very well. -
[ QUOTE ]
- I can self heal eventually, and pretty damn well too (when are they nerfing Aid Self?) so would an empath really work that well in the long run?
[/ QUOTE ]
You can't replace an empath with aid self. First of all it's interruptable, so it won't help you much when you're fighting. Also, Empaths are more than just heals. They have awesome single target buffs, like Fortitude(+dam, +def, +acc), recovery Aura (trust me, you'll have end problems when playing SR) and Adrenaline Boost(+recovery for end problems, +regen for healing, +recharge for getting elude back up much quicker).
Forcefields does have the obvious sinergy with Sr, but it only boosts +def. You won't have any combat heals and you'll run out of end every 3rd mob, if not sooner, before Elude.
I still say get an Empath... or a Rad. Rad is also pretty good. It has a combat heal, Accelerated Metabolism for +recovery and +recharge and good debuffs that will compliment your Defense powers. -
[ QUOTE ]
And mainly b4 knowing how i7 is going to affect toggle dropping too. It's still and incognite so i wouldnt rush either
[/ QUOTE ]
I do hope they don't nerf toggle dropping to heavily to be honest. Right now I'd say most */Elec and */Nrg blasters have both their toggle dropping attacks, because they do both toggle dropping AND good damage. A good blaster really only needs 1 toggle dropper(which is why I don't need Frozen Fists, as Ice sword is sufficient), but if they start messing with it too much, everyone that can, will just stack up on them just to get the same effect they have now.
[ QUOTE ]
On the other hand, i think ice patch is pretty situational, animation is way too long and patch radius is really short, so i could live up without it
[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed, you can live without it, but would you want to? Dropping Ice Patch on those PFF'ed MM's is just one of the joys in life
[ QUOTE ]
Agree on that HOs are always welcome, but even without them, id stick range SOs on my snipe attack. Combined with ss+ stealth and firing from distance its uber. The closest thing to real sniping u'll find in the game. Give it a try and tell me
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah slap 2 range, one acc and 3 damage on that snipe. Or you could slot some intterupt i guess, but i never found it too useful or noticable. -
[ QUOTE ]
Currently thinking.
Hasten at 47. 3 recharge and 3 end drain, coupled with cab, power sink, short circuit, and thunderclap, thinking it could be useful in PvE and PvP.
Glee!
[/ QUOTE ]
Or you could just slot damage and kill everything . -
An Empath would probably be most helpful. You can heal her and double her defense by dropping Fortitude on her. This will boost her damage by 30% or so as well. This might be a bit boring for you though, as you'll mostly just be acting as a personal buffbot.
Maybe try a controller with Empathy secondary? You'd have the ability to be a bit more offensive and still able to buff and heal when needed.
/SR will get better with the release of I7 though. Defense powers should no longer scale depending on mob level so the defense value you have should be just as effective on a lv 1 mob as it would be on a lv 50 mob. This should improve /SR scrappers ability to play against higher level mobs. -
[ QUOTE ]
I am quite taken with the idea of the fire/ice being turned into a PvPer... especially as I can team it up with an ice/fire blaster - might make quite a decent combo?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well any team would improve your chances. The Ice blasts from you teammate would add to the slowing that you're doing. I don't know much about the blaster fire secondary though. I am keen to give it a try.
[ QUOTE ]
It is a shame I didn't post this before I did the last respec and got rid of chilling embrace tho (doh!)
[/ QUOTE ]
Good thing we have a freespec coming up. I would seriously think about your build before using that one up though, seeing as it again will be the last one you have for a while. Make a build post on this forum before doing aything drastic.
[ QUOTE ]
With the secondary would you ignore things like frozen fists and ice patch (thinking the animation time on the patch takes way too long to put it down)
[/ QUOTE ]
I've left out Frozen Fists from my Ice/Ice build as it does the same damage as Ice bolt, but from melee and with longer animation. It does have a toggle dropping effect, but I just preferred the ranged attack. This might change when I7 comes out as they'll be doing something to toggle dropping(not exactly sure what will happen)to make it less effective, so having the second toggle dropper might be needed again. I prefer the build the way it is now though. Just Ice Sword and Frozen Touch for melee is enough.
I also have Ice Patch, even though the animation is long, if you use it with SS, you might be able to drop it on unsuspecting foes. The knockdown tick is also very very fast compared to similar powers like Ice patch, making it extremely difficult to get off, once you're affected by it. Other than that, it's simply a fun power to have, I would keep it just for that.
[ QUOTE ]
And is it worth slotting range in the primary attacks?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes and No. Yes, if you have Damage/Range Hami-o's. No if you're sacrificing damage or accuracy for range. Blaze defenitely benefits from having some Damage/Range Hami-O's , but those are not easy to come by. -
[ QUOTE ]
my point was that if [example] a stalker hits me and i got only couple hitpoints left, the moment u hit em they start runnin away.
[/ QUOTE ]
The thing is, most Stalkers do bad damage when they're not hidden. The reason they run away, is not because they're afraid they will die, it's because they want to get hide back up, so they can do another high damage attack to you.
That's just how the Stalker AT works, in most cases anyway... an EM Stalker would just hit you with Energy Transfer and finish it right there.
Another good tactic would be for he stalker to get your hitpoints really low with AS and then have a Corruptor to hit you with a Scourge attack. That's teamwork, most villains still need to learn about it. -
yeah, both blasters should be good. I hear AR/Dev is a decent Stalker Hunter, but personally I find the idea of making a toon specialized in fighting one single AT a bit boring.
Fire/Ice should be cool as well, as long as you specialize on the slows from the secondary. They can be very very effective against almost anything, giving you better opportunities to blast from range. I'd say this is a bit more difficult build than your standard */nrg build, but it's all the more satisfying for it.
