  1. We've been running 44ish redside missions lately, better watchout you may get invited!
  2. Even when I ask you, you won't team with meh.

    Last night's BSF

It was a fun time and even more fun given only one of the group had been on it before. Everyone was fun and friendly and just proof you can get a villain SF going on Guardian; even at midnight central!

Oh and the mystery of General Bullseye is solved! He begrudgingly admitted to me Sunday night that he came back from kid aggro, sat down at the computer and shut his eyes for a second and woke up about an hour and a half after we'd finished the TF. Heh, had to share that.

    Oh and Hi, Toonies!

    Plant/Kin advice

I really need to work on my IO build for my Plant/Kin.
  5. Fire/Storm has many possible power combinations depending on playstyle/team/solo etc. The one "problem" with fire/storm is its use of end. So you want to look at sets that are +recovery and +end heavy. You'll also want your best powers up as close to every spawn as possible so recharge is nice as well, which then makes +rec and +end all the more important.
  6. And that is fine, I've said that's fine. But you are not invited to a team to only control. That's my one and only point. My mind/sonic controller is a total workout in the clickiness category and I don't play her in very long sessions as she can be tiring. Totally get that. The only point I'll even argue here is what a controller is asked to do on a team: that's be a controller....not just control.
  7. Well, I should speak only for myself then.

I'm invited to teams to CONTROL, so that's my priority.
I whole heartedly disagree. You are invited to the team AS a controller not TO control. That is a powerset, combo, a pairing. You are expected to do both. When someone wants to join a team I don't just say "Oh you're a controller what's your primary" it is almost always "what secondary?" because is all honesty that makes more of a difference.
  8. *sigh*

The criticism isn't because you don't like to buff. Noone said you have to like buffing to be a controller. You can just not play buffing sets, as you stated. That is a personal choice and understandable.

The criticism is thinking the only thing important for a controller is the primary. Debuffs are just (if not more) as important as buffs. The point many of us are making is that you need both primary and secondary (whatever it is) to be an all around controller. TA and Storm are incredible sets and aren't buff sets...but you need to use them.
  9. Yeah and you can bludgeon someone with the butt of a gun, but you can get the job done quicker with a bullet. Just saying. :P

And yes, I realize your secondary is part of your whole character, but I just don't like buffing. That's why I stay away from powersets like force field and sonic resonance etc. The only reason I brought it up was because I knew someone would probably reply with "well why don't you just go thermal to fit your theme?" so I thought I might nip it in the bud, but having played MMOs and being on forums for as long as I have I should have known people would comment on whatever they disagreed on despite it not even being the reason I created this thread.

Oh well, I got the answer I was looking for one way or the other I guess.....
That is exactly why I used words like preference or prerogative. I didn't tell you how to play by any means. Play as you like, doesn't change a thing about my life. But like I said you can't have it both ways. "Comment on this but not on that". Like Lewis said "don't take the bait". You could have just said, "I don't want to play a /thermal" and left it at that and noone would have thought twice about it. Instead you say, "XXXXX and I know you won't like it so don't say anything or I'll get all upset". That isn't very fair really. You put it out there and people are going to say something whether you like it or not. Sorry, just the truth.

Personally though, I find the second part of your response to be a bit rude, because you're implying that a) I can't have certain aspects of gameplay I don't find enjoyable, and b) that if I don't like buffing I can't or shouldn't play a controller.

I "micromangaged" my post to prevent responses like the latter half of yours, judging me based on what I don't like to do as if it makes me a horrible person.
Conversely I'll ask you if you play a defender do you not expect to blast? Sometimes people take contrary comments as rude, when they aren't. Blunt maybe, but not necessarily rude. To right it off as "well I don't like buffing" is fine and good but you came here for opinions and sometimes you'll get one you don't like but that doesn't make it rude by any stretch.

The point Enan is trying to say is that part of being a controller is in fact what your secondary does. I'll throw in my opinion after playing quite a few to 50, "It's not that hard to do both." I'd pose to you that while a controller can bring tons to the table just with their primary alone they aren't even scratching their potential until they use their secondaries. A primary only controller is no different than pure healer build. Sure you can add something to a team but rarely are you adding enough to justify being good at it. That said there is nothing wrong with wanting to play a set that is more debuff oriented if you are so inclined, storm and TA are wonderful secondaries and add a ton to the table. Skipping one of the most important and powerful powers for concept reasons is surely your prerogative, but it will significantly make the build weaker than it could be.

Now don't get me wrong, I know that you are saying you don't enjoy buffing. That is your preference. But coming to the Controller forums and saying

    Quote:
on a controller I feel I'm there to, you know, control, and buffing just seems to detract from that, at least for me because I'm OCD and have to keep buffs up 100% of the time on everyone.
And please don't respond giving me tips on buffing as a controller, because frankly I don't care. I don't like buffing on a controller, period, end of story, and nothing anyone says will change my standpoint on that. Ever.
you will get a response whether you request it or not. And I'll note you also implied that people that control and buff don't do it 100% of the time, which isn't true.

Edit for clarity- It's a bit disingenuous to come to a forum and ask for advice, then turn around and make what would seem to be controversial remarks but then apply stipulations that noone respond to them. Not flaming you, just saying.

Have patience, while Illusion has some early jewels for powers, a controller really doesn't start feeling uber until mid to late 30s and even into the 40s. By the time all is said and done you'll have a monster of a controller.

    Cold/Dark defender
    Ill/Thermal troller
    (do those count?)

    or a few younglings
    Fire/Psi blaster

  17. Earth's Embrace is teh sexxxeh. Given you are an /emp not sure its a nice as it is on non healing sets, but its nice to have. Rock armor is nice, but you do look like poo. If your playstyle leans towards a little aggressive then seismic smash may be a good choice, unless of course you don't venture into melee much.

  19. Advice about college:

Enjoy it. It's a time of learning and finding yourself. It can be the greatest time in your life, if you let it. Stretch yourself both intellectually and socially. It's not just about learning from books it's also about learning who you are. Soak it all in.
  20. I just lay my oil slick over my VG. Throw in a disruption arrow and an ice storm and things die.........

  22. It's a new shiny in a flavor we all like. People are going to talk about it, no stopping it. If you're happy here, like many of us, then that's all that matters. If others leave chances are they will be back. One thing this game has that I haven't seen in a lot of games is retention and plenty of returns. I've seen a lot of people over 5 years leave and many of them come right back after whichever new FOTM shiny comes out and the newness wears off.
