The simplest way for old and new would be my suggestion. Keep them exactly as they are but include in the forum title what that particular AT does. (See above post) Simple and only minimal effort and nothing to move.

Quote:And what is easier than, 'Hey I wonder if I can find out something about my blaster. Where would I look? Oh look a section called blasters.' I really don't see how playstyle makes anything simpler. Seems to me it makes it much more confusing. If you want to make it easier for a brand new player to find the AT they want, why not just head the existing forums with:While I certainly appreciate your viewpoint:
What if we provided guidelines so that posts were easily identifiable within each forum?
I don't particularly view it as pigeonholing, simply as...well...simplifying. There's a rather large amount of forums to sift through here on our boards, and to a new, or even veteran player who hasn't spent time on the forums, it's a bit confusing.
Forums should be easy to understand at a glance.
Blaster (Ranged Damage)
Controllers (CC and support)
Scrappers (Melee Damage)
etc instead of lumping them all together give the information to simplify in their forum titles. -
Agreed 100%. I can see lumping a bunch of ATs into one heading causing a lot of bad advice and in-fighting. While it isn't apples to oranges it is apples to pears. You gotta keepem separated.

Quote:Not true, the imps cause less aggro.I typically confuse my Fire Controller's Imps with Scrappers and vise-versa, but I have friends who like to drive Scrappers and they probably wouldn't like to hear that I consider their characters to be functionally equivalent to big Imps.

I like my trollers just fine thank you very much. While for some soloability may be a reason to back away from a controller for some of us it isn't. I don't typically solo, and don't particularly like it really. I have some controllers that can solo (Fire/Storm is a buzzsaw on crack) but I rather like a support character. DPS---feh. I like lockin' em down, debuffing the heck out of em and letting the buffed mouthbreathers to go in and clean up for me. Cause afterall a controller is just a mastermind who has teammates for pets.

It's all still there, it's just that some costume parts were moved around to different submenues or truncated in different lists. You just have to look around for the parts.

And you can craft alpha powers using the trials you don't have to do TFs.

They are doing physical upgrades. That's standard procedure and should be appreciated if you ask me (sometimes you have to swap out the hamsters). And it's less about whether anyone wanted to watch or enjoy the Ustream. It was a gesture, which is what it sounds like people are asking for. They don't want the game to be down. They don't want threads like this. They want us playing and happy and satisfied. They do acknowledge the inconvenience and they have gone out of their way to demonstrate that to us. Personally the fact they acknowledge that inconvenience and do anything is compensation enough for me, because it shows they do actually care. They could have done nothing, but they didn't.

Quote:So a game should always be available and never have any downtime for fixes and upgrades? We had a launch, we lost a few hours. That all seems standard operating procedure for a game. Inconvenient? Yes. Out of the norm? No.If you pay a monthly subscription, then it 'happened' to you. We pay for access to the servers, if those servers are not available, then you cannot play.
You seem to be missing the point. Hiding behind a EULA, in this instance, is legal but it's not good customer service. Of course, this is my opinion. You might very well disagree.
Don't get me wrong, I get just as annoyed as the next person when I take time to play and the servers are down. But things happen and Paragon really goes the extra mile here and through social media to keep the playerbase informed. It doesn't feel like abuse of the playerbase's trust to me. I mean we had a community rep on webcam for 12 hours the day of launch to keep the playerbase informed and occupied. It's very hard to feel slighted or mistreated when that's the attitude they take with their customer service. -

Quote:Why compensate someone for something that didn't happen to them? I get we all want to play, but really. This isn't that big of a deal in the scheme of things and only equal to a dollar or so at most.
Everyone gets compensated. Offer an additional double experience weekend.
What do you think a EULA is for then? It's things exactly like this, so someone can't get a bee in their bonnet over a few hours of downtime and decide they are going to call Corey B. Trotz Esq. to get their dollar back. And I don't recall them saying "We're shutting them down because we can." It's my understanding they are shutting them down so that the game will actually, you know, work. Not a whim. -
Re: "Hiding behind a EULA"
It's not poor business practice, it's standard business practice. And not having a EULA is just plain stupid business practice.
We've had some downtime. Ok. It's been a matter of hours. How do you decide who gets what? For some people with limited time that may have been the only times they could have played and that really sucks, sure. For others it's during work, or a trip out of town, so they really haven't lost anything anyway. Then how do you decide who gets what and why is it fair to compensate someone that didn't miss out on anything? The answer? People just have to realize that excrement happens in life.
The devs have always been pretty upfront about stuff like this and when things go longer they at least apologize for the inconvenience and many times will do something ingame. It's not money, but its something. And something is better than nothing. And they don't really have to do anything. -

Per Wiki:
Shipping, derived from the word relationship, is the belief that two fictional characters, typically from the same series, are in an intimate relationship, or have romantic feelings that could potentially lead to a relationship. It is considered a general term for fans' emotional involvement with the ongoing development of romance in a work of fiction. Though technically applicable to any such involvement, it refers chiefly to various related social dynamics observable on the Internet, and is seldom used outside of that context.
Shipping can involve virtually any kind of relationship from the well-known and established, to the ambiguous or those undergoing development, and even to the highly improbable and the blatantly impossible. People involved in shipping (called shippers) variously assert that the relationship does exist, will exist, or simply that they would like it to exist. -
From what I remember this isn't just the hopes of a bunch of shippers, hasn't it been stated by the creators of the show from the beginning that they will end up together and not just at the end of the series?

Very possible, but even if they weren't acting on behalf of the Authority initially, they can use their act to gain favor with them. You know how Vamps love their politics.
-
You know this just struck me while I was thinking about the show. I wonder if Bill and Eric were tipped off and were acting on behalf of the Authority given that Nan had quit and was trying to usurp their power with a new faction. They kind of eyed each other when she entered like they were up to something.

Plus, I think it would be very very difficult finding someone that looks like the books describe Quinn and actually act.
-
Quote:Oh, I'm not arguing that point one bit. As far as I'm concerned they are two different (but similar) universes that I enjoy as completely separate entities. What I do like about what the show does is that the first few episodes of a new season has you going 'Ok this is NOTHING like the books', but by the end of the season you see they actual did a good job of getting the right vibe of the books, just through a more ensamble approach. And it's never really "too far off" just different..
I agree that the TV show was fairly close to the books during the first two seasons. But I think my point still stands (despite the details) that I doubt that any future seasons of the show will be able to be tied directly one-to-one to a particular book now that they've started to cherry pick plotlines from many of the later books. Let's just say if Quinn doesn't make an appearance by the end of season 5 then all bets are off.
Personally I think the show has improved a lot of some of the weaker aspects of the books (much of the credit goes to the cast) and I've found very few things that I truely don't like compared to the books. The only thing, off the top of my head, is I think they've tried too hard to make Sam's character dark. Sure it's making him a bit more three dimensional, but the whole point of Sam's character (as with his personal go-to animal to shift to) is his man's best friend-like loyalty and goodness. And even that is minor really.
No, it's not a show for the dyed in the wool canon-ite. But I think it hits so many notes, so right, that the differences can be overlooked and even enjoyed. I'm not holding out hope, but given her 'break up' with Bill and Eric it would be great to see Quinn next season. My guess is we'll get some version of the charcter and I wouldn't be too surprised if it turns out to be Scott Foley's character. (Old Iraq war vet is much more interesting than party planner to the supes community) -
Book spoilers below..................
Actually Lothic, it is Book 4 where Jason is kidnapped and bitten (and rescued by Sookie and Sam) and Book 5 where he changes. Where the show really made a difference besides the obvious is actually starting the story during season three, given that Jason was almost completely absent from the third book they had to give him something to do I guess and stretched it through this season, and I'm guessing even into the next. -
Would you be opposed to hearing and maybe mentioning opposing opinions or philosophies? Glancing over it looks like a great guide, but I think there is definitely some differing takes on which bonuses are priorities. I realize you do mention there is a subjective element to the guide, but wasn't sure if you were interested in at least showing some alternative opinions. If you do want to keep it totally from a personal playstyle perspective, then great job so far.

Having struggled with this this weekend I will stress to go the exact route the OP uses. There is another way to set password that doesn't work. You need to find the "change password" section through clicking the "City of Heroes/Villains" on the Game Accounts page just as described.
Thanks much OP!
