Last thing first - forget about changing power sets. Won't happen. They're flat against it, not least because of the amount of work it would take.
If you're a VIP (paying subscriber,) which... you are, you don't have to re-buy masterminds/controllers. (And past a certain tier level, I believe, they unlock.)
Not sure it'll LET you buy stuff you have already, actually. But don't quote me on that. -
If he's focused only on end-game and raiding, and stuck in the "Level cap raise or else" mentality... well, he just may not be happy here. COH grows "wider" as opposed to "Taller," giving more content to do throughout the ranges (and makes it easy for people to team with people of other levels, up or down, to visit it.) Some people just don't "get" that.
Honestly, even if he *sees* our raids, he may not be all that convinced - we don't generally need pinpoint planning or masses of people to do them (and that also, in a way, ties in with the fact we don't need the "holy trinity" type teams... we have no "healer" AT, though we have ATs with sets that can heal it doesn't define the AT.)
(I tend to take the flip side. I hate having to replace powers and replace gear, and feel like someone going "Hey, now you can be 60-80-93000!" is just wasting my time and being frustrating - while any new people see ghost towns and neglected content.) -
Start over. What happened...
Enhancement diversification - no more 1 acc 5 damage.
Inventions - can do *interesting* things to your character
PVP Gained - for those that like it
PVP Lost - after massive changes
Praetoria - see "Going Rogue." Side switching, etc. Available in the paragon market.
Multiple zones and powersets.
And the "Freedom" hybrid model.
Just for a fast rundown.
Generally... browse paragonwiki.com. -
Ill/Sonic. At 50. Liked the concept and the character. *DESPISE* Illusion, especially paired with Sonic. Got to 50 solely because I was working on "One of each control set," and it was my highest. Moved to another server, currently gathering dust.
Bot/FF MM. One of my first MMs. Every once in a while I'll pull him out to mess with, so he's slowly crawled to the mid-upper 30s - but this is the pairing that nearly put me off Masterminds completely. (And, frankly, bubbling as an AOE makes him even MORE boring.) -
FWIW, it's not "just" EU folks getting hit with this.
I work second shift, essentially. So, this guts pretty much all of my gaming time (unless I have one of those "can't sleep" nights.)
THAT said (and yes, I agree it's getting to feel like a bit much ATM,) look at when the downtime starts: 3:30 AM Central (which should be where the servers are, IIRC.) So they're coming *in* earlier than that, and "looking forward to" a 12 hour day if not longer of messing with this. They're not doing this for fun, they certainly don't want to stay later than they have to. Frankly, that looks like a downright *miserable* day.
(Did they actually say they were *moving* hardware? Been there, done that, makes a not fun day even less so.)
What I *would* suggest, since this is probably part of a series (hopefully the end) in a staged upgrade/deployment, is that if PS/NC knows in advance they'll have to do a series of upgrades - get the schedule out to the playerbase ahead of time. "Hey, guys, we're going to be doing a LOT of server upgrades, expect long downtimes for the next few thursdays, check back for hours." -
Yeah, no issues with it here at all.
Head up to tech issues/bugs. You've definitely got something going on. -
Quote:Er... no.When I hit the Veterans reward that gave me all the other powers, I was kinda disappointed that despite my spending my money and getting the CE, Everyone else now had access to those same powers. It seemed a little cheap. But I'm not a collector, I got the collectors 'cos I really enjoyed the game and wanted to feel like I'd helped support it somehow. If even I was a little annoyed by that, I can't imagine how other people would feel, If they WERE buying it just to feel special in game.
Only after reading this thread did I learn my prestige power slide was still prestigious! (So thanks for that!)
Although it wouldn't matter too much to me, I could see where others would get upset by it being sold. We paid for something exclusive, And suddenly it's not? Seems a little unpleasant.
The *only* thing Paragon has ever said is that they would not give away anything we paid *extra* for (the preorders are not "extra" unless someone ripped you off) for free. They've *never* said they wouldn't sell the various "edition" goodies separately at some point.
We didn't pay for something "exclusive" in the sense of "Nobody else will ever have this." It's "exclusive" to that edition. Much like the valkyrie set was "exclusive" to the mac edition, the Sinister and Justice costumes were "exclusive" to the GVE edition and the like.
I own the COH CE and COV CE and have them on both accounts - and at least the original COV CE I paid quite a bit more than the "standard" edition for, as it was something like $80 on release. That said, I'd have NO issue with the items from these editions showing up in the store. If anyone owning either edition needs to feel "special" about it and would get upset over others buying it - I'll just point out you'd still have the *physical* items (cards, art books, heroclix, etc.) specific to them. -
Quote:*nod*However, I think the "Farm" section should likely be suggested as "Non-Story Arcs," that way the Devs aren't coming across as if they condone farming... but it would be a pretty specific nod in their direction.
"Story arcs"
"Non story arcs"
All with their own subcategories. Stories have the whole "Canon related," "Origin story," etc. Non story arcs can have a "Farm" label, "Challenge," "Experimental," "Non-combat" (for things like the "crafting room" or whatever it was) and the like.

Quote:Came back to this:Have you purchased an unlock and then gotten to level 20, or purchased one on a character already 20 or higher, but that hasn't done the unlock mission? I wonder if there's a hidden flag in there for a level restriction on them.
Three characters.
Character 1: Had the cape previously. (lvl50)
Post-I21, still has it as an option.
Character 2: Purchased the unlock. (lvl 20+ - 36, IIRC.)
Cape of the Four Winds not available.
Ran Cape mission: Cape now available.
Character 3: Pre-I21 character. (Lvl 50)
FAIRLY sure I didn't run it on this one previously.
Cape not available until I ran the mission.
Character 4: L50, capes unlocked (but not using a CE cape)
Result: Cape available. -
Quote:Blueside it has not. Still the rep in city hall. But the first person to talk to is in Atlas now.No, no.
You can still do the missions (although it is likely the contact has changed - I know it has redside).
But you can also pay to unlock them.
ALSO, I'm not sure if this is a bug or not. BUT, if you have the Cape of the Four Winds or the Arachnos cape (COH CE/COV CE,) you will NOT have them available from the purchased unlock. You WILL have them available if you run the mission. (At least as regular capes.) -
Have run through heroside twice. Thoughts:
1. DUMP the blasted "Enter mission" button. Really. I KNOW I'm entering a mission. That's why I clicked on the mission door. I didn't notice it at first and thought "Damn, that's a long load...."
2. Igneous ambushes... meh. Little more timing between them would be good. Still, on my elec/elec blaster... not a big deal.
3. Find the exit... ok, little more of a clue there would be good. I saw nothing exit-y. First time, I dealt with the collapse. Second time? Ouro portal.
4. Whatsisface, Mr. Speedy-Lost, is nullified by the clever use of... *hover.* Really? OK, I get to watch him run off into the distance, run back, run into the lava, run out, run up to me, run in circles 2-3 times then run away again. Is this where I say "Hover is OP, nerf hover?"
5. Mmmm. Lava. And rather nicely done lava. -
Long after you showed your true colors, dearie. Not to mention the rather bizzare "pool" statement you made, and your clear lack of understanding of anything the devs said re: MARTy and farming.
/golfclap
I've been waiting for you to say something TO take seriously (instead of "as seriously wrong") for a while now. -
Another non-answer.
Care to try again? Do you even bother reading anything but the last line?
In case the answer to that is no,
Purple with green polka dots is overpowered and needs to be adjusted for the Phlogenberg principle or the game will have serious issues. -
You're the one going "BAN THEM! BAAAAANNNNNN THEM!" though, at least as an undercurrent. Even though, by the way, in one of those very ustreams they mention they do not want to affect peoples playsytles - INCLUDING farmers. They even took pains to point out a few times that they are NOT aiming this at farmers.
What did the devs do? Put in a *throttle.* For *exploits.* (They even gave a somewhat over the top example or two, rather indicating it was going after the extremes.) Which, by the way, was not affecting the farms mentioned - and if anything, from the first mentions coming back, is making the adjusted (non-rezzing) farms *more convenient.*
Now, would you like to try again before calling for another round of bannings, since you obviously *don't* understand the devs standards? -
Quote:And *throttles exploits.*They've also had to take development time to write MARTy who keeps a nice clean log of people who PL and farm.
IF they ever decide to do mass bannings and roll backs again it'll be much more surgical.
Like it or not, it's not an "anti farm" tool. If you farm and get the maximium tickets on a map in a run, they don't care.
It is *anti exploit.*
Read slowly. Farming is NOT an exploit.
Farming is NOT the same as PLing.
Hell, even PLing isn't always bad. I invite you to look at my (somewhat out of date) character list - it doesn't include the (several) characters made since the issue release, or even the current levels of many of them.
Think I *might* be a bit burned out on lower levels? Even with the new stuff? Or be familiar enough with a set I transfer to want to get to where I feel it's fun?
What about the PVPers? Several of them want to get to 50 to have a useful character they can set up for their matches. The PVE content, for some of them, makes ZERO difference.
Yet none of that matters to you, I assume, given the attitude you're showing? All of them can be caught up in your precious banning you seem to want so badly?
Get off your high horse. -
Quote:And the devs responded by doing the only *sensible* thing they can do:The devs put in the patch notes for the release and I believe in the MOD when Issue 14 went live that AE was not for PLing and farming. People had PL and farm missions ready from beta.
The Devs reacted by use of extreme measures...people responded by continuing to disregard them and even going "I don't know how anyone could think this is looked down upon."
Farmers are tolling the dev's and going "U MAD BRO?"
They look for, and act on, *exploits.* Things that are so FAR out of range (such as the monkey farms, kill-a-spawn-gain-5-levels or whatever it was) that it *is* too much.
They've tried adding timers. That's hurt regular play. (Just ask my earth/FF trying to find the "last damn warwolf" in Shadowhunter's map.)
They've nerfed XP, repeatedly. (See comment of mine a bit up re: my elec/elec blaster and the portal room.)
They've added ranged attacks to mobs.
If they wanted to shut down *farming* completely, they'd have to remove AE, hazard zone size spawns (street spawns being limited to, at most, a group of 5,) and gut most missions, plus get rid of the difficulty choices we were given, forcing everyone to run at 0/0. -
Quote:What? That doesn't make the slightest bit of sense as a reply. If I made public pool and people were chugging apple juice to take a piss in it I might stop working to keep it nice as well.
Quite frankly, using your "analogy," the devs said "what the hell," left the gate open other than to peek in at it every once in a while and maybe twice a year caught some teenagers screwing around in a corner by the fence. -
Quote:And how well did that work out? let's see...It's like everyone forgot when AE was rolling out the devs said framing AE will be frowned upon and then did mass bannings and roll backs.
- Affected people who weren't involved
- Annoyed the playerbase as a whole
- AE generally left to gather dust by the devs outside of actual exploits like the comm officers and monkey farms.
- Interest in AE falters. Including by formerly-enthusiastic authors.
Since then:
- occasional (rare) bug fix.
- Other bugs (such as the filter) left for some time, breaking regular arcs (but not affecting farms.)
- Dev Choice arcs pretty much not updated in... er... how long? until very recently. (Remember those being talked up as "monthly" so slots would be freed up as a reward to authors? yeah....)
Edit:
Oh, and didn't the devs acknowledge, fairly recently (was it one of the "long downtime" uStreams?) that they KNOW they can't stop farming, and only want to stop the over the top ones - probably the same ustream they talked about MARTy with? -
No apology needed, I did mention I fit it in afterward, probably at the same time you were posting.
Quote:Valkyrie is only an good example because she self-rezzes and then pops her T9 Unstoppable/Strength of Will/etc buff. If you liked a story for everything else, but the final boss of an arc just happened to self-rez, you'd downgrade it just for the self-rez?
(It's similar to the portal mobs not giving XP - WAY back in issue 3, maybe 4, my elec/elec blaster - nice and squishy - ended up with a pile of demons on a kill-all map. I'd get somewhat close to the "must kill as one of the kill-all mob" portals - verified by a GM - and get hit by a bunch of ranged fire attacks, dying pretty close to instantly. This being when debt actually mattered and we had a nasty content gap in the mid-late 30s... right where I was. That, quite frankly, nearly made me leave the game at that point, it was so irritating and frustrating.)
Short form: Story is important to me, but it does not trump everything. -

Yes.
You missed the edit (honestly. I added it, refreshed, and this was there,) so let me re-post it to this:
You are incorrect. How can I say that with 100% assurance?
(A) Look at my signature. See the links to Kheldian lore, the COH background info?
(B) Check various posts, you'll see me griping about how bad the VEAT arcs are.
(C) While not "story," while you're in the guides, note the big block of MA tutorials from its launch. I do care about what happens to the MA.
I obviously care about and appreciate the story.
Yet what I mentioned (Valkyrie sticks in mind for this very reason) ALSO ruins the story for me, and yes, I *would* downrate a story for it (edit: once it hits a certain irritation threshhold) and let the author know why. -

They would have had to hire people to review each arc as it came down the pipe, and approve it before it went "live," quite frankly. Just imagine the backlog that would have created...
