Quote:I think my comparison was a hyper little dog in a room full of bouncing balls, always chasing the next one. It *is* one of the things that gets frustrating. AE is kinda-sorta getting attention (getting newer devs choices on occasion,) but it needs a lot of work. Bases - we've gotten hacked teleporters, yay... but apparently the person in charge of the base editor didn't comment on his code and trying to do anything there breaks things badly. (For instance.) PVP... whole can of worms there. Is it really a suprise that Power pool customisation is still not done?
Paragon Studios are a bunch of magpies, they forget one shiny when they see a new shiny. It will never get finished because once they get a new shiny to play with they'll say abandon the Incarnate ssytem to focus on I dunno the Secret Identy system, which in turn will not be finished because they make a third new thing to play with.
Just look at the bugger tonne of wolves that we've been inundated with because they made a shiny new rig to play with. Does their need to be a Wolf pet, teir one wolves for Beastmastery, tier three wolves for beast mastery. the pet for Darkness Control? Wolf.
Magpies the lot of them. Except maybe Dink.
A lot gets forgotten or left behind. -
Quote:Incorrect. THey'd be charging to finish the work they started already by producing the car.No, your car analogy is completely wrong here. The dealership in this case is not charging you extra for anything the car actually NEEDS to operate as a fully functional car.
Quote:A more accurate analogy here is that you're buying a car and the dealership is offering to sell you OPTIONAL racing strips, tinted windows and satellite radio. You don't NEED any of those things to drive the car.
Quote:I absolutely understand that as players we generally don't want to have to pay anything extra for anything that we could otherwise get for free - I get that. But trying to express this position in terms of how it would "ruin the game" or make it "impossible to play" are laughably ridiculous.
Quote:If the Devs offer something us something OPTIONAL to buy then we always have the CHOICE to decide if we want to pay for it or not.
I'd be annoyed if they released a new task force free to everyone.... but charged me a fee to be able to run the last mission. Which you're saying is fine, "since you don't need to run that task force."
I'd be annoyed if they released a free costume set for everyone... but charged for the boots and gloves, or for one of the body types when the other two had it free.
And I'd be annoyed if, after giving us 90% of basic customization, they charged for the same basic customization for pool/ancillary/patron powers. (AGAIN, though, I'd be fine with purchasing fancier, new, non-basic animations - a lightning bolt coming down for hasten going off, flames that look like flames for superspeed, etc. as they'd be *beyond* the basic tint/noFX we have for the other powers.)
Quote:Even if you choose not to buy something like this that can't possibly ruin your -current- gaming experience in the least. I've been playing this game for almost 8 years now and if the Devs magically offered us new Power Customizations tomorrow that we'd have to pay for in the Paragon Market I could very easily continue to play the same game I've enjoyed for years even if I refused to buy them.
Quote:I just wish people would get over their misguided entitlement -
200 million? Should be able to buy multiples of that kb io from the market (at least when it's not 2xp weekend.) Or just grab acrobatics and do it the old fashioned way

Do a file search on screenshot_*.jpg and you should find them.

Quote:Bah. Forgot all about him. They already dealt with the Coralax in Vincent Ross's arc. Merulina got killed off to serve the Puddle of Annoyance storyline, nothing else was explained and the whole thing was a colossal waste of an underused enemy group with a lot of potential. Much like the redshirting of the Knives of Artemis in Dark Astoria.
... still think the rest needs doing. -
Quote:There are many times I disagree with J_B. This isn't one of them. In fact, this is one of the things that irritated me enough to leave for a bit.You know, it made me mad when Posi said that about why so many story threads are abandoned. "Writers don't want to write someone else's ideas. They wan't to come up with their own."
You know, if you get hired to write Spider-Man and you don't want to write Spider-Man so you relegate him to a background character and make his book about the new "supporting cast" you introduce, you really shouldn't be writing Spider-Man at all.
I understand and support giving new people the freedom to expand the world, possibly taking it in directions the "old guard" never thought of. They're going to see the game as it is *now,* with the storylines in it *now* and the technology that's in it *now* and take advantage of it. That should be encouraged.
However...
As much as I don't like it, I understand some things being abandoned. Avilians, for instance - the original idea for a "winged character" being an Epic AT - are left to a vague reference to hollowed out bones and a few people like me who remember them. They never *really* got a foot in, and tech moved past the need for them - and an Epic AT, as much fun as I think they'd be still, is a lot of work for something that can be done by pretty much anyone now with a costume piece. (Personally, I'd like a Portal mission or two where you find and learn about them... and why the race died off "in game." Just because.) It makes sense that they were abandoned.
Then there are items like the Blood of the Black Stream. They've had more work put in behind them - they're referred to IN the game, and in other promotional materials (the now-defunct, admittedly, CCG where a player character's bio was altered to fit it, the Eye of Horus in the oil spill in Oakes, the Gadzul Oil references.) So they can't be an Epic AT... I see it as a loss, but fine. Use the framework of the lore to expand the world further, take us beyond the Cities again, get Ouro involved again (going to ancient Egypt... which could lead to a little more Kheld content too,) etc. There's a lot of potential in there.
There's another tier of lore out there, too - going back to epics. The Coralax. This one fulfills *so* many wishes I don't understand it not being done. We've got a potential Epic AT, for those that want to focus specifically on Coralax lore (and potentially new variations and combinations of powers not available elsewhere - another "Free for VIP, for sale for everyone else" bit too, to help with the funding.) We have the Underwater zone(s) asked for for how long. We have lore tied in to both COH and COV, though heroside it's more of a guest appearance in the Hollows (why aren't they in IP, pestering Lusca, or Talos or FF?) And to cap it off, we have a goddess to face, or help (Merulina,) for the Incarnate angle when we're done with all the other stuff. This is "old lore" that should really be getting worked on and mined for all it's worth. It can be dealt with throughout multiple level ranges. It should, really, be an issue (even 1 1/2) in and of itself with everything that could be done with it.
Just because it's "old lore" doesn't mean it should be ignored or trashed. -
Quote:Do they pay to use anything past the first few IOs, or for the entire system? They already get *some* PC free, so I don't feel the comparison holds the least bit of water.Should be free for VIPs.
Rest should pay for service, same way they do it for GR or IOs.
It's an unfinished system that's included free in the base package. This should absolutely *not* be a "free for VIP, everyone else pay" item. They should finish the system and have the whole thing be accessible - though, again, if they came up with animations "above and beyond" color and no-fx (say, for instance, fast-waving hands for Hasten's activation,) that to me would be fine to pay for... just like extra costume options.
If I went in to work and the boss asked me how I was doing on a project, and my answer was "Well, it's 85% done. You'll have to pay me more to get me to finish it," I'd be bouncing on my butt in the parking lot I'd be fired and kicked out so fast.
So, summary:
Pay for pool customization: No.
Pay for extra customization animations, while leaving "noFX" and color options free for everyone: Sure.
Pay for something else (costume set, powerset, etc.) that goes to funding it: Sure. -
Quote:Apparently they still refer to it. We did get an example of it tossed to us by Sean Fish some time ago - I think talking about the pumicites. Not a lot of info there, and it's not a "Grand plan" of COH layout and lore. Sounded more like COH Cliff Notes, and not everyone reads them. The "story bible," if there ever was such a thing, was likely thrown aside with the release of CoV, and newer stories ignore even lore that is explicitly stated in-game. Because Posi wants the writers to be able to be creative, dontcha know. The end result is a tangled mess.

No.
This would be the sort of thing that would make me leave again, and warn others against getting involved with the game.
It would be like a dealership selling you a car, then charging you an extra $3000 for the steering wheel, rear window and one of the wheels (rim, tire and all.) The work itself isn't finished, IMHO. It's something that nobody should have to pay for.
The ONLY customization I'd pay for - and probably gripe to some extent about - would be if the base system were in there (with the most-requested options, as well, like disabling the hasten effect) already, and they were charging for some over-and-above extra fluff customizations. -
Everything I can think of, other than badge progress, pretty much shows current debt. I don't think there's a civilian to click on for "number of times defeated," and last I looked the Combat Attributes window just gives current debt.

Quote:95% with you.Am I the only one who likes King's Row the way it is?
OK, that's not entirely true. Given my druthers, I would make two changes to it, both of them relatively trivial. I would rewrite the contacts' missions into actual story arcs. And I would replace one of the construction sites with the Cyrus Thompson Community Center from the end of Top Cow comic #6. But other than that? Leave it alone! Go make Steel Canyon less gang-infested, go push the Rikti into the alleys off Founder's Falls, go wrap up the story of Perez Park, give Boomtown at least some blue FEMA tarps, but leave King's Row (mostly) the way it is!
And I'll tell you why: ever since issue 4, stepping off the tram into King's Row is the first minute I feel like I'm actually needed. The people of King's Row need heroes, because, even with Blue Steel standing there, even with Paragon PD headquarters in the zone, it is obvious just walking through it: ever since Statesman bankrupted the King Garment Works for their Family ties, King's Row is the neighborhood that everybody else left behind, that nobody cares about.
When you step into King's Row for the first time, you may be only a level 5 hero, but these people don't even have that much.
When you step into King's Row for the first time, you may not know anything about the Circle of Thorns and the war of the gods, and you may not know anything about which of the city's many villain groups and corporations are Nemesis plots. But those are two of the main long-running story lines (the other two being Arachnos and the Fifth Column/Council conspiracy), and the clues that break both start with gang and street-crime crackdowns in King's Row. When you're level 5, you're so far back in the storyline that none of your contacts know anything; the time you spent street-sweeping in KR is why, thanks to you, your later contacts know enough to help you crack the conspiracies.
I love King's Row. Update the story tech, fill in the one missing building, but please, leave the rest of it the way it is!
Any graphical update shouldn't make King's Row shiny. I *like* having part of the zone look industrial - run-down industrial. The effect SHOULD be somewhat jarring. If they can make decent broken and boarded windows...
I still want a phased (not phasing-tech-phased, but multiple issues, with several issues in between) reclaiming and rebuilding of Boomtown, working its way farther into the zone. -

Can we flame the arachnos drones?
Unfortunately I don't think my sort of ideas fit in the limitations given. I'd just point to M:TG and say "Slivers." We do have a touch of this with the Thugs MMs (for instance.) -
I *could* just point to my collection thread....

Quote:"Damned" by whoever has (or can tap) enough power to send a soul or being to a specific dimension. And religiously sanitized is fine, as (a) in game it's simply another dimension, though not a pleasant sounding one (or set of them) for people from ours, and (b) there's been plenty of cursing, etc. long before any one modern religion came about.. A religiously sanitized word despite the fact that demons and damned souls reside there (damned by whom?).
Given the coordinates and enough power, in game, Portal Corp. could probably open a way there. (And promptly close it.)
Frankly, I'd see it more as a dimension (or series of dimensions) that gained negative religious overtones as people managed to stumble on them (or beings from them popped over here for whatever.) Sort of like an anti-Canada. -
Quote:Ahh. OK, yeah. Makes more sense, and yeah, definitely have more fun with a Dom, then.Controllers are awesome don't get me wrong, but they just weren't for me. I suppose putting it as sitting in the back was inaccurate, but slythetic is completely right when he said I was looking for damage which Controllers don't do much of. I mean with /Rad it was easier to do more than average, but it still wasn't enough for me. I play mostly Brutes and I love being in the center of the fight, or just dealing damage in general.
Simply put. I'm the guy you look for to deal damage, not support. -
Quote:Well... you can.Star Wars the Old Republic has laser swords used to slay Jedi Knights on Korriban. You cannot get much better than that.
One of mine over there is a Sith Marauder. He actually shares something in common (no, not dual blades) with a set complained about here - Titan Weapons.
Titan Weapons has people complaining about the lack of "hit" sounds, so it sounds like you're constantly whiffing. So does the other. It's very strange feeling. I think it's easier to deal with an "I hit" sound that doesn't actually work with you hitting things than it does to hit things without sounding like it.
I hadn't actually realized before that just how much difference a *small* sound can make.
(The other issue over THERE, to me, is one that has to be there for gameplay. In the IP, lightsabers pretty much cut through anything but another lightsaber, at least in the movies - yes, the books mention resistant metals, but you don't see that unless it's a three foot thick door. In the game - even though it has to be this way, obviously - it's like you have to hack away for several minutes at a piece of paper to cut with one. Part of that lack of feeling of power at times, I suppose.) -
Probably want to post in tech issues - or just get ahold of customer service. I seem to recall trying to get installed on my (ugh) Windows 8 testbed machine (really, really hate Windows 8) and it kept hanging up there... Seem to recall just having to retry a time or two and leave it sit. Also make sure your firewall isn't blocking it.

Have't finished the thread, just minor things that popped into mind while reading. (Background: Fourth character, first 50, was an elec/elec blaster who still comes out to play.)
Voltaic Sentinel: Wouldn't skip it. However, I think it was better pre-Defiance 2.0 for the simple reason that, having it out, you could keep putting attacks out while stunned/mezzed. Now, everyone has that trick, so it's just not noticable or unique.
I think I'd like to see two things: Longer duration (or, hey, perma-pet,) and give its attacks chaining.
Damage: Eh. The time I feel low-damage is on my Dark/Electric Def more than my Elec/Elec blaster. But I do think a minor tweak upward would be nice.
And I do love Thunderous Blast. >.>
My two cents. -
Quote:
I currently have two Controllers: A elec/rad who is level 50, and a dark/dark who is level 32. Where they have both proven to be good as I mentioned before I don't really like sitting in the back healing, buffing and debuffing. I want to be in the fight.
Any way I love Electric Control. It's a very fun set and just looks cool. Darkness Control though I'm still learning each of the powers, it has potential to be just as good in my opinion and I like my shadowy puppy =P
... I just have to return to this and ask why you feel you have to be "sitting in the back?" *Especially* with Elec/Rad?
I mean, roll the doms, they're a freaking blast to play, but it sounds like you've been selling your 'trollers short. -
erg...
Yeah. Tad high there, guys.
(Of course, if you're running Force Field or Ice - better yet, on a team of them - you *can* keep them alive. Did that to a buff pet once - had a little ice man floating around behind us that a few people were buffing for laughs. Ended up with more HP than half the team, IIRC.) -
I see maths.
I suspect it's time to run and hide in a bunker before the math-nuke from Arcanaville hits, which takes into account quantum variations in keyboards, string theory, string cheese, the heat death of the universe, age, specific variations of the color yellow, and how much rum is left. -
Quote:Heh... though that comes up and - think my favourite from that timeframe has to be:Every time My Fiance and I hear a story like this, one of us pull this old ditty up...

Now ask her WITHOUT the mind controller hanging around. >.>
(Actually, I thought you two nuts had squirreled off and done this before now. Congrats!) -
