I'm personally surprised rep is still here, given some of the first comments when the new boards came out were "Didn't you learn your lesson with the stars?" and "I'm turning my rep off now, this is a bad idea."
(Mine, if I look at the User CP, is pretty positive - but I still want to see it go away. And if it can't go away, get rid of the anonymous nature of it.)
As for the tags, they could be useful - but there are so many useless ones ("I like pie" isn't exactly helpful) that it's swamped in BS. Again - *could* be useful, but at this point, not very. Either get rid of them, approve new ones, or set up pre-approved tags (which is really self-defeating - what are you going to do, tag a suggestion as a suggestion when it's already in the suggestions forum?) -

Quote:/this, for starters. And I'm sure it'd throw the game on occasion. For instance, right now I can go in-game, type in [Storm Kick] and see what it does. It's a simple (SCR, I know) lookup. [Smellmyfoot] or [Nostril extractor] isn't.No thanks. I like to be able to look at my teammate's bios and have a vague idea of what they can and can't do.
Go ahead, look at my power list and have all of them - offensive and defensive, buffs, debuffs, etc. - listed as [My Powers!] - literally - and tell me what I'm capable of. Am I a TA/Arch defender? Am I a blapper? "Pure healer?" Have I ignored my buffs and debuffs, or am I a balanced character?
Now do it with dual builds, log off the character, come back after, say, a vacation, or not playing the character for a month, and tell *yourself* from that list what those powers do and which build you're on. -
Quote:*shrug* They're still part of one of my favourite arcs in the game (Freakylimpics,) one of the better NPC conversations ("Nemesis is down with the street") and just plain fun. Avoid? They could give 1 XP per 3 killed and I'd still play them. This thread keeps getting stupider every time I read it.
Don't like the change? Avoid freakshow. I'm still gonna be plowing through them and getting X amount of XP while I do so.
Contrast that with the luddites, who just plain aren't used and thus get ignored. -
Ooh, missed part II was starting - glad I saw it sigged
Time to try out the subscription feature on the new boards. >.> -
Quote:... and don't forget, have drones who can see through all forms and levels of stealth, and good defense via ST atacks (though they're weak to AOEs)Throwing in perspective - in the same level ranges (20-50) that you encounter the Freakshow, you also regularly encounter the following as well:
The Lost (Exotic damage, Lts at this range start getting sleeps/disorients/KBs, bosses have area sleeps/holds); Are replaced at 30 with the Rikti (who have KD standard, and higher chances of mezzing all the way up, in addition to summoning ability)
The S/L doesn't bother my Controllers. The Fungi eminators, though, which grant status protection, completely gut them.Quote:The Devouring Earth (the emenators can be rough, but as they start gaining levels S/L resist becomes standard)
... See status protection (as I'm recalling,) granted via AOE.Quote:Cimerorans (Not really a huge threat)
Not always. The biggest issue for my tanks with them (well, most *noticably* with them) are the Cryo researchers (minions) who drop my recharge quite nicely... especially when teamed with cryo *tanks.*Quote:Crey Industries (The bosses and Lieutenants are the only worries here)
*and again* nasty mez resistance on fortunatas, banes, etc.Quote:Arachnos (Heavy on -End, KB/KD, mezzes, and to boot the robots start really showing up in force here with high S/L resistance)
Just to (mostly) add in the control side of things, since it sounds like you're looking at it from a scrapper/tank/brute POV.
(I'll add in, for a really nasty time to add in a group vs an AT... Scrapyarders in the late teens/early 20s. No SOs, and vs Masterminds, Demolitionists are murder.) -
Quote:"Killer stuns?" Have you made it to the higher levels and fought Malta? THOSE are killer - as in very common, often stacked because of how many mobs have them, and exceptionally long - stuns. That aside from Sappers, Gunslingers and the Titans. Freakshow stuns are nothing.
Castle didnt mention the killer stuns and the KB this group also has....
Same with KB. Freakshow KB has nothing notable to make it stand out. Council KBs as much. -
Quote:That was from a company that really didn't care, and a lack of real official effort to fact-check and keep it updated. The OP's talking about an unofficial effort - player driven, IOW, at least how I read it. Much like Paragonwiki is.With how much things change in the game so constantly, this would only work as a 'binder', so that you can remove pages and add pages. We saw how well that worked (they've tried it before: it was never updated).
Do you really want to buy updates to a BOOK book up to four times a year?
I'm not sure how it'd work out, but get a dedicated core group and it could fly - see also the Titan network, and previously mentioned Paragonwiki. -
Quote:I'm referring to *all the time.* I play at various levels from day to day - not just my 50s, not just lowbies. Other than the self rez, there's just nothing all that special about them. No holds (Stunners Tesla cage is a sleep, only irritating if it's the last power used on you,) no particularly special abilities, not even particularly tedious. No exotic damage - for a lowbie, the Vahz toxic damage can be horrendous by comparison. The answer should be obvious, but I'll indulge you a bit. I personally find them annoying from time to time on any of the AT's you mentioned. Is that better?
As for "always being a cakewalk" are you referring to 40+ play or characters in the 20-40 range? That makes a big difference to the conversation. I will agree that for characters above 40 they are very easy. But, you know, there are other parts of the game. And for the lower level ranges where you can find Freakshow, I personally feel lowering their XP is unjustified as in that level range their challenge level is completely in line with other enemy types. For that reason I say make their modifier 1.0, not 0.8.
Won't argue with 1.0 across all ranks instead of 0.8, out of the minor "threat" rezzing can be, but a *bonus* for fighting them is just not warranted. It is for the Tsoo in that same range, as mentioned, given how control/support/exotic heavy they are - just for comparison.
Frankly, I'm surprised it wasn't lowered long ago - like when Dreck got his timer added. Freaks have always been casual farm-bait. -
-
And - though you should know this if you read the link in the first reply - you can only re-select powers, not switch primaries/secondaries, AT or origin. Just to head that question off.
-
Which squishies, specifically, find them annoying? Certainly none of my controllers, defenders, blasters, doms or corruptors have. Freakshow have always been a cakewalk.
-
Think I'll throw in Therra Malevola, who'd probably pair up with Demon Trix.
Therra's a creation of the Circle, of sorts. When her heroic "source" (my elec/elec blaster, Therra Arcson) was caught in a cave in during a raid on a council base and taken for questioning, the Circle couldn't pass up the chance to steal some of the hair and blood samples from the scene. While the original Therra escaped, joining with a Kheldian to become Therra Paladina - this didn't particularly bother the Circle one bit. They felt it would work to their advantage.
They didn't want to kill her - not just yet. For all the trouble she'd caused they wanted to ruin her, completely. And so they made a duplicate. Binding spirits in with her DNA and raw materials, they created what some would call a golem or homunculus - but this was a whole being, under their control. One that would act to sow confusion and discord, ruining the hero's name with the city, the press, and her family.
Things started going wrong early. Therra Arcson's patron blocked the Circle from being able to duplicate her powers. Twisting the spirit trapped inside, they gave their copy infernal powers, wielding fire and darkness.
Then the binding broke. Therra Malevola, free of the Circle's will, eliminated the mages trying to re-bind her. Their leader escaped, but the only copy of the rite left to them was lost. Now Malevola roams the world, looking for power and revenge - revenge on the mages that made her, revenge on Therra Arcson and her family who she blames for her very existance - and on anyone else who gets in her way.
(Dark blast/Thermal corruptor. Actually missing her fourth costume - red skin, burnt wings from the growth of her power. Usually not seen in the helmeted costume.) -
The only time I think snipes are useless (as a snipe) are on Dominators, who get them so late in the set it's laughable.
Blasters, Defenders, and Corruptors can all use the time to "reach out and touch someone." You can hoversnipe, TP out of range and snipe, pull (though doing enough damage it may end up bringing the entire group) and more.
Something you should "build around?" Not necessarily. Useful tool? Yes. -
Quote:You can do it via MA, though.Sorry, Memphis... I meant "new" epic....
Youre example of "epic" has been around since issue 3, has it not?
Just wishing for new Kheldian stories is all... And don't go saying "you can do this via MA" either, because not only do they exclude key Kheldian enemies from selection in MA, they will also severely be reducing what you will be rewarded for whatever you do make, unless everything is set to "extreme."
This is, of course, barring any changes they may make to the test builds between here and now. I don't expect them to cave into changing back their changes on MA at this point, however.
The previous story is good though. Don't get me wrong on that. I've just played through it many times already (gettin' badges for Ouro too), and I'd love to see some fresh content for Khelds, since everyone is in a state of "Khelds are perfect" power-wise, and since Khelds don't seem to be on any sort of priority list to be included in any of the power customization changes for this issue.
"The One"
(And I'm reasonably sure it was "have one of each rank in your groups," unless I'm remembering the notes wrong.) Besides, a decent story is what I'm going into MA for, not "phat lewts" or a PL or whatnot.
Leaving the current content alone, though, there are still two big openings for Kheld content. (I know, SOAs have no content to begin with, and yeah, that needs fixing - but still.)
1. Twilight Son.
We know what *he* says happens - and maybe we'll get a look at it whenever we deal with the Coming Storm. But a Kheld-specific look wouldn't hurt, either, to flesh things out for the Epic ATs that actually have an epic. >.>
2. Cimerora
Ancient Rome? Fine, but a certain Warshade has been around since Ancient Egypt. What would she - and any other warshades, assuming they *are* 'shades at this point - think of it? What about all the Khelds we see working with the Nictus? -
Quote:No, thanks. I happen to like going through there at the appropriate range for AOE killing goodness (and while I'm not a badger, it's also the location of one of my favourites - Destined for Valhalla - just for the fun of running up a toppled building.)That said, the Devs could consider turning an already existing and mostly unused zone into a cross-server PvP zone. Namely, 'Boomtown'.
No reason to spread out the few PVPers there are even more. -
Quote:The SOA have a *forced* respec - starting over from level 1 - at level 24. Which is most annoying, quite frankly. The Kheldian - WS or PB - can choose to stay human only or multiform any time from level 6 onward, and for them it's *purely* a power choice. In the time I've been playing (5+ years) there's been tons of changes and balancing of arch-types and power combinations. The Kheldians came out first as a veteran class. Then Villain side rolled out their Epic arch-type the Soldiers of Arachnos. The big difference between them only shows up when you take into account the alternate build play ability that's been built into the game. The SoA have the respecification at 24 and the choosing of which direction to go, either Widow or Fortunata, and Soldier or Crab. With the alternate build option in the game it's possible to "go both ways" and explore up both lines.
I would love to see something similar on the hero side. Say going up through 24 as a plain Khledian and at level 24 either have a mission from the Khledian contact that is a trap and the character gets turned into a warshade, or just the sudden respec that's present on the villain side currently. I know that the two types of Kheldians are almost opposing each other as well in powers and history.
Also, you're a bit off as far as the Kheld lore. Quick guide.
(Edit - and AO - something "epic?" Keeping the Earth from being turned into a new Nictus homeworld and preventing the genocide of Peacebringers isn't epic enough?) -
Others that have pretty good quality and can be low-cost:

The first two tend to be digital, the third (who's on the screenshot/fanart boards) can be either. -
New piece from John B's last (or was it the one before that? That boy gets himself quite the queue...) special. I know, no mentioning prices - but (a) not running it now, and (b) he put it on the artwork. So don't look at the bottom.
Villainside version of my namesake character who lives over on Virtue.

Same one (in a different costume) who was in this - though the base is a *bit* different now. (As is the audio... frigging youtube.) -
Quote:*holds up box* It appears to have shipped.I mean of games that ACTUALLY SHIPPED...
That was just... a money sink. A gullibility tax.
Then sank.
(Edit: no, I did not pick up a lifetime sub for it. I didn't pick it up at launch due to the irritation of "epic" vs "free" vs "Single player, you're kidding right" content,t he bugs, etc. So I got mine on sale.) -
Sure you're going after *all* the badges? There are tradeoffs for some - sure, a tank (for instance) would be survivable, eat damage without problems, but healing? Aid Other. Very slow. Time mezzed? You'll be farming. And IIRC some are made *more* difficult by +HP boosts some powersets get.
Also, of course - the "epic" badges take... er... a long time.
You may actually want to look into a mastermind. Yes, you can get mezzed, but you can eat damage (while in bodyguard mode) pretty well. And if your set has a heal of any sort (which several if not most do,) pet healing works toward healing badges. For "all around badging," I'd think you'd have to go least out of your way by playing a MM. -
Quote:This, again, is the *big* issue. There's just not the population there - and this game has never, even with the pre-I13 PVP, even when it was *new,* had a huge PVP population. PVP SGs? Long gone, for the most part.you do realize that about the only server this may have a chance of working on is freedumb. from my understanding, and experience, the other servers have very small PvP populations.
This isn't a situation of "if you build it, they will come." It's just not a huge draw in this game.
I'm not against goals-oriented PVP. But with population sizes, much of what you want - you might as well put in the arena (which already has set-team-sizes and the like to choose from.)
The one thing I think some people *might* have an issue with is the "winning side PVE boosts." As long as there's not a penalty outside the PVP zones for *losing,* though, I don't see a huge issue. -
Quote:Yeah, but that's no fun.One note on this for anyone who isn't aware: at level 25 a character can access the Ouroboros zone via anyone's Ouroboros portal, and it's very simple to simply fly/jump/run up and get the exploration badge there that provides the temp power access.

Quote:Honestly, on Infinity (tends to be 3rd-4th in server load/population,) you should have seen it more often than me. I tend to play on Pinnacle or Victory most - and I've still seen 8v8 plus stragglers in Siren's Call.Maybe it's because I'm on Infinity. Maybe it's because of the odd hours I play. I don't think I've seen anyone in Siren's call since it was introduced.
I can run and grab me some Shivan love without fear of pvp because I never see another soul in the zone.
I've gone to Siren's and Warburg recently on my blaster actually looking to get ganked and....
Place is empty, at 8:30pm central time, desolate.
Not anytime lately, though. So, people *did* PVP in this game - not many, but they did. And recently... nowhere near as many.
