I can now, if I choose and my character can handle it, play solo with settings for a team of 8 at +4 difficulty.
I'd be making more INF. (Actually, even more in less time if I drop the difficulty.) Which, honestly, makes your "I can't farm more than I did before" false. You may not be able to put more *time* in but you can adjust your settings for a greater return.
There's no limit to the INF you can make (well, single character holding 2 billion, and filling up slots with 2 billion INF bids on nonexistant items, but other than that...) -
Quote:/this.On the other hand, some of us have built multiple systems with parts from NewEgg and never had a problem. I've used TigerDirect a couple of times and they were good also. Not familiar with Insight.
Only complaint I've had at all with newegg comes from ordering... a battery. Where shipping cost more than the part. Of course, the total was still under $10. (I know, why didn't I get it locally - vehicle issues.) -
Prefer with newest build: ATI.
Why: I can actually buy one.
Otherwise, yeah, my newest build would probably have a 260 in it, as originally specced out. -

Quote:Since I have to support people, I'll give you the example I generally use to clear up "But I have 500 Gb of RAM!"what is it that RAM does? the only thing I'm aware of is load speed times.
Thanks for any help.
Picture someone at a desk, with filing cabinets to the side. The desk is the working space, the filing cabinets are storage. If you have a small desk, you can't really have a lot out to work on at once - it doesn't matter how much you have in the filing cabinets, you can only have a few documents out before they start crowding over each other, falling off the sides, blowing off with the fan and the like. If you need to work on more stuff, you would look into a bigger desk.
For your PC, the desk is your RAM, the filing cabinets are your hard drive. More RAM (to a point) gives you more room to work on more stuff at once, or work on bigger projects (larger programs, like your 2 Gb minimum example) without having to shuffle stuff back to the filing cabinets.
RAM is working space. And a 32 bit OS can see up to (roughly) 3 1/4 to 3 1/2 Gb RAM. Coming to the other quote below...
Windows 7 comes in both 32 and 64 bit flavors in most versions (edit: Starter, which you can't get retail anyway, doesn't come in 64 bit, every other edition has it available.) Usually - barring Student editions and, potentially, OEM editions - you'll get an option for which to install in the same package. Windows 7 home basic (again, not available retail) caps out at 8 Gb, home premium is restricted to 16 Gb RAM. Pro and above cap out at 192 Gb. Which is actually a higher cap than any version of Windows other than Server 2003 and 2008, and the only versions of *those* that are higher are Enterprise and Datacenter, which cap out at 2 Tb.Quote:Current operating systems come in two types 32-bit and 64-bit. XP and Vista are usually 32 bit (unless you specifically get the 64 bit versions). I think Windows 7 is 64 bit only, but I don't know that for certain...
Those caps, of course, are 64 bit editions only. 32 bit - essentially consider yourself limited to 3 Gb. -

Isn't that more of a problem with having (sometimes hordes of) Mu Strikers, then, as opposed to END use on the characters? That, I'd agree with, as END draining that early is just ridiculous. One NPC is able to be dealt with. Having three or four of them all hitting you, draining END repeatedly - then having the same thing in multiple spawns - is a big issue.
Heroside, there's nothing similar in scale at the same range. Yes, Outcasts have Shockers and Lead Shockers, but not full spawns that show up over and over. Arachnos isn't faced mission after mission. Clockwork come close, but frankly I don't recall END drain being anywhere near as bad as facing a bunch of Mu - and they're far more avoidable.
Perhaps the abundance of Mu and their END drain (and IIRC Recovery debuff) is what needs to be looked at first. -
Two characters, 160+ characters, every AT, most powersets.
I build whatever comes to mind. Sometimes from saying "I haven't played that combo," sometimes from "This looks interesting," sometimes from a name or look, sometimes from a character idea (RP/story/etc) that comes to mind. -
Quote:Have to nitpick here -Also, you'd have one less attack power, which would slow down your leveling ability. Getting to your mission a minute faster isn't worth taking an extra ten minutes inside the mission because you're only spamming one attack.
At level 6, we open up power pools. Many people use it to open up their travel power pools - and while two do have an attack option (Jump Kick and Air Superiority,) they also have other powers available to take which seem to be reasonably popular (hover/CJ.) So, they actually *wouldn't* be losing an attack at that point.
Unless you're assuming the OP (with mentioning level 5) would want it at level 4. -
Quote:You have a character named - well, we'll use your DAN. Say you're on Guardian. There can be no other DAN on Guardian. There can be DAN 1, DANGER DAN, SuperDAN, but no other just-plain-DAN.I was thinking about moving some toons to a new server and I read that I could lose my toon's name if I did. So can there be a toon with a only one specific name across all servers? Or several toons with the same name in EACH server. (EX: one toon named DAN for all servers, or Several DANs in each individual server?)
Someone else, however, can snag DAN on Virtue. Another person can get DAN on Infinity, etc.
Now, if you decide "Hey, I want to move from Guardian to Infinity," the other DAN was there first. You'll be DAN1 (I believe,) as well as be given a free rename token.
While you're gone, someone else can come onto Guardian and make DAN - so if you decide "the heck with that, I'm moving back," well... you're out of luck if someone else took the name on your original server while you were gone. -
Quote:As I'm recalling, the Athlon II series is the Phenom II series minus L3 (?) cache... yep, here, from anandtech:I'm assuming that an Athlon II X2 is as good or better than an Athlon X2?
Quote:The Athlon II X2, to be specific, is a 45nm monolithic dual-core processor. While the most recent Athlon X2s are derivatives of the original Phenom architecture, the Athlon II is based on the new and improved Phenom II architecture.
Take two Phenom II cores, increase their L2 caches to 1MB, leave out the L3 and youve got an Athlon II.
I *also* want to say you can find a quad core - not that it'll help COH - in that series for under $100, but that's going from memory. Depending on what else you want to do - well, make sure the mainboard can be upgraded. While my current (nearly complete!) build is an Intel machine, I'm also throwing more money at it over time getting it built - and AMD's good at keeping the same socket around for a while, so I"d keep an eye on being able to upgrade in the future. (It is, in point of fact, the reason I went with AMD for the current build - started with an Athlon 64 x2 4000, bumped up to a 2.9 Ghz 5600, and the MB supported up to the first generatio Phenoms (and has some Athlon IIs listed, tri-core too.) -
If the level's an issue - out of left field idea - "GM-code" the enhancement to be at a specific strength at a specific level. Exemp down from 50 to 36, the IO's at level-36 strength.
As long as we're talking massive reworks, after all.

Because you'll still see some people with (currently) incorrect information from back when they were released.
Because some people still misunderstand "epic" (per the devs - they're using the 'tied to a story,' not 'zomggodlike' - yes, even in VEATs) and expect to be invulnerable while one-shotting AVs or some such.
Because some people are, for some reason, afraid of the extra XP from seriously nerfed Voids and Quantums. They're roughly as big a threat as a bad haircut, yet I'll still see the occasional Kheld hide until they're dead without even bothering to find out how weak of an enemy they are for themselves. Of course, acting like that makes *other* people less likely to want them around or try them.
Because some people can't get over "Nova's not as powerful as my level 50 blaster, Dwarf's not as powerful as my level 50 tank" and can't seem to grasp they're not *supposed* to be - the ability to change roles is what Khelds do.
Because there's not a "perfect build" to copy because of all the variation (human, bi or tri form, for starters) in Khelds.
Related, not being able to work out "slot starvation" in a triform (even with frankenslotting available since IOs came out, which would make these peoples Kheld lives much easier.)
Of course, some just don't like the play style, which you'll find for any AT or powerset.
ObUphillInTheSnowBothWays: Frankly, Khelds are worlds easier to play than when I started mine. Got my blaster to 50 in I4, started a Kheld immediately - with full strength Qs and Vs, no debt relief, no patrol XP, debt starting earlier, no IOs, no market to get HOs from, etc. They're almost *too* easy now. Still loved every minute of it. -
Quote:... and villainside they don't really have a *choice.* They're out of stuff to do in Mercy, and to do anything in Oakes they need to visit Mikey or Drea, get the newspaper, and run a mayhem... giving them the jetpack. (Barring, of course, sitting in AE all the time - in which case, why do you need a travel power again?)That's a fair point. I would argue, however, that teams run the early level Safeguard missions routinely for precisely this purpose

I must admit, I haven't really watched television in aeons.

Congrats, Melissa!
You know firsthand how big of a revamp Faultline required. I have no argument with "That takes a lot of work," and many calls for a revamp of the Shard being that much harder. Prior questions about redoing content or adding it to other zones seem to echo those thoughts, specifically, with the idea that "(the dev team) would rather give you something new instead of revamped old."
Again, with the shard, I understand - but how about zones like Dark Astoria, that don't really need "reconstruction" such as Faultline did, and are certainly an order of magnitude smaller than the Shard?
With content being mentioned, could we look forward to - borrowing a description from Intel - a "tick-tock" introduction of content, the Tick being new content (more redside, alternate leveling paths, especially low leve - yes, I know, Praetoria, but some may not want to start there,) with the Tock being a revamped DA, Brickstown (though I see that needing something closer to a Faultline work - perhaps over a few "tocks" to show evolution of the zone.) Would this be feasable?
Also... any way of making the mission computer actually useful for more than one redside SF? More SG-centric content would be fun for teams of various sizes (from solo to 8.) -
Honestly, I don't know. I've run, in my last few systems, all nVidia cards, the 6800, 7900 and 9800 being the only ones with fans, and those have run for quite some time with no issue. The 6800 ran until I retired the system (and had it stolen from storage shortly thereafter,) the 7900 is running in my work PC several hours a day after several years in my gaming system, and I've run the 9800 for over a year. All good.
The only reason I'm going with ATI on my new build isn't dissatisfaction or problems with nvidia, but lack of supply. -
Quote:Two words: "Dual build."No I think you don't. My point was Forbin said he was putting together a build with EMP and planning to only take Healing Aura. There have been multiple threads on these forums an player's guides, Planners, etc showing that of all the powers Empathy has that is the least effective especially at higher levels. Heal Other does more tham twice the amount of actual healing and I have used it numerous times to keep a Stone Tanker alive and battling against an AV. Recovery and Regen Auras not only help the team they also help the player himself .. something almost no other buffing set does. MY POINT was why take EMP at all if you aren't planning to use it? Hey he has some PvP build in mind where he never plans to use that character for anything else FINE. He should still take the Regen and Recovery Auras to aid himself in healing and recovering end faster. Whatever else he want's to do is his business but there have also been threads here claiing that Empathy sucks mainly because there are way too many players out there with it that don't have a clue what they are doing.
I have Empaths (and Thermals, and more) that you'll see playing with no shields, only powers that affect me, etc - and then a day later, on a team, with less offense traded for more support powers.
Instead of all the above ("Why take emp if you're not planning on using it?" Well, I am,) instead of telling someone their build is "wrong," try this instead:
"Solo build? You might want to look into a dual build, just so you have a little more support for the team. Yeah, you give up some offense/concept/etc, but the rest of the team can cover the gaps. Then when you're done teaming, just switch back over - you can do it at any trainer."
Depending on the tank, no, taunt *isn't* needed. Some powersets can use it more than others (Willpower, for instance, is notorious for a weak taunt aura,) but overall, it's a tool, and if the tank can hold aggro (that's the key there,) don't sweat it.Quote:And no this doesn't just apply to EMP. You like custome builds fine... Do you ever lead teams? I am sure you do. Okay you invite a tank and after about the third mob, with the team taking huge amounts of damage, you check the tankers build and discover, in the learly 40 levels, he doesn't have Taunt. In fact his so called strategy seems to be run it, stir everythuing up, and then run away bringing the entire mob rushing toward the team reay to destroy anything that moves. When you ask the tank why he doesn't have Tant his reply is " Oh this is a concept build and Taunt just doesn't fut my idea for my character." ... I was on that team against Malta and the team leaders reply was .. "Yeah well a Tank that can't tank isn't part on MY concept either." and then he kicked the guy.
And Forbin?
Just say "No," if you don't want to go to dual builds. If they persist, /ignore. You don't have to "teach them a lesson," wasting everyone's time, in that case.Quote:Despite my warnings in search and when I flat out tell them I can't heal, bubble, buff there are people that still choose to ignore me and beg me to join their teams.
At that point after making sure they were warned I'll relent and accept their team invite knowing full well what's coming. Soon the heal me's, buff me's, start coming in and I just laugh because they ain't getting what I ain't got.
Does this make me a jerk? Probably, but I don't care. I hate build nazi's and people that refuse to take no for an answer. They came to me and they ignored what I told them. Maybe next time they'll pay attention. -
Quote:Well, on the one hand it's 'how easy it is to make,' and on the other, 'what all there is to spend it on." INF still, honestly, doesn't play a big role in this game. Yes, I know, Wentworths/BM, etc. but there's nothing there that prevents you from progressing on a character if you lack it.As long as there is a way to communicate between players in this game, and some players remain painfully ignorant of how ridiculously easy it is to make inf in this game without resorting to RMT sites, RMT will continue.
There's no "gear," really. You don't have to buy powers. You don't have to pay to travel anywhere, you don't have to pay to upgrade powers (yes, you can buy SOs, they also drop, and really are pretty cheap,) you don't have to pay to advance "tiers" of anything - I'm surprised, quite frankly, that they still bother with this game. RMTs are a pretty low-visibility group here. -

And now, for Haggis.
Quote:Ingredients
- 1 sheep stomach
- 1 sheep liver
- 1 sheep heart
- 1 sheep tongue
- 1/2 pound suet, minced
- 3 medium onions, minced
- 1/2 pound dry oats, toasted
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried ground herbs
Rinse the stomach thoroughly and soak overnight in cold salted water.
Rinse the liver, heart, and tongue. In a large pot of boiling, salted water, cook these parts over medium heat for 2 hours. Remove and mince. Remove any gristle or skin and discard.
In a large bowl, combine the minced liver, heart, tongue, suet, onions, and toasted oats. Season with salt, pepper, and dried herbs. Moisten with some of the cooking water so the mixture binds. Remove the stomach from the cold salted water and fill 2/3 with the mixture. Sew or tie the stomach closed. Use a turning fork to pierce the stomach several times. This will prevent the haggis from bursting.
In a large pot of boiling water, gently place the filled stomach, being careful not to splash. Cook over high heat for 3 hours.
Serve with mashed potatoes, if you serve it at all.

"Smarter AI" can (somewhat) mean a few things. It'd be interesting to have enemies use terrain, etc. - but tied in with everyone doing it, it'd kill the servers.
Now, "Smart behaviour" and reacting to things can be programmed in in various ways without necessarily dealing with giving it AI. For instance:
Current:
Your blaster comes across a patrol. You fight, most die, but one runs right into the next group. A quick ranged shot and they're down - with the other group still just standing around the now-defeated enemy on the floor, still having coffee or whatnot.
"Smart" (or, perhaps better, "More Aware") :
You come across a patrol. You fight, most die, but one runs toward the next group. You fire, but he comes into range of the next group yelling "Help, enemy sighted!" The next group then aggros on you.
Alternately:
You're trying to sneak through. You see a patrol and let them pass, following them with stealth on. There's another group, but they "relax" when they see the patrol - they're not calling out for help, everything must be OK, so they don't really pay attention to the little "shimmer" you have from stealth as you sneak by, and/or their defense is lowered for the next 10 seconds.
(Yes, part of this is from Aion, where some patrols - some MuMu, Flagbearers and such, you REALLY have to be careful with. If they're in range of something else when they call for help, it *will* come running. In a game where 1 player vs 2 mobs can be a fight, I've seen ten enemies chasing one player who's running like hell.) -
So he can take that extreme, drop what he doesn't want to push it closer to "regular stalker" and find whatever balance he wants.
I did say I threw that together for the hell of it, and that it probably wouldn't be fun to play. -
Quote:I have characters on every server, on two accounts. I have multiple servers that have all free slots filled up, as well as several paid slots. Those that aren't, I can't think of any that have fewer than five (thus, an open slot.) I know many, *many* people in the same situation. You know, there is a much more logical solution to the "Server Population Disparity Problem." Instead of merging servers like everyone always suggests, why doesn't anyone ever prose to reduce the number of character slots? If everyone only had five character slots per server, they'd have little choice but to branch out to other servers to create more alts. Not only would this likely boost the population of servers like Pinnacle, but it would probably have the added side benefit of reducing lag on servers like Virtue and Freedom during peak hours and during major events.
Yes, I know it is at least as bad, and probably a worse, an idea as server mergers, I just wonder why no one ever suggests it.
Your idea = multiple lost subscriptions. Especially (a) after increasing slots with CoV, and (b) implementing paid-for extra slots.
