  1. I don't know that having them able to change the broker/detective, in this case, is as desirable as just making sure that mayhems are - regardless of which you take - able to be completed cooperatively if you have the same one. Newspapers aren't story arcs, but a series of random missions (and IIRC count towards everyone's "mayhem bar" anyway.)

Of course, the other option would be to just start hers, hop out and go on about your business while letting it fail, since you'd both have the badge/power/etc. anyway, I'd assume, but unless you're running a newspaper right away (or a quick AE arc or something) you're "out of sync" again.

If you want to do so -

    1. Go to guru3d and get Driversweeper.
    2. Get new ATi drivers.
    3. Uninstall your ATI drivers, etc.
    4. Reboot into safe mode.
    5. Run driversweeper.
    6. Reboot, install new drivers.

Any "shakiness and instability" would be because... wait for it... it's still beta. As in unfinished, in testing, in need of work. Expecting it to be otherwise indicates, to me, that you don't want to beta test, just "see the new shinies," which is not what a beta (as early as this probably is) is for.

  6. Taunt is a tool. Some powersets benefit more from it for aggro control than others. (Willpower seems to be brought up as an example of this quite often.)

My suggestion? On your first tank, take it. See how it works. Your first run through with any tank primary, take it and see if it helps. If it does, keep it. If not, drop it. For laughs, if you don't "need" it but have a free power pick later, take it and stick the psi damage proc in it.

I *like* having it, but I wouldn't call it essential - and I'll judge other tanks on how well they tank, not if they have taunt or not. And anyone who judges a tank solely on if they have taunt or not is, like the power itself, a tool.
  7. Wait... someone buys those?
    *logs out by CH*

OK, that smartalec bit aside, in theory it's not a bad idea. But the questions of "what" and "how much" have to come up. Those people dropping two billion on an IO? Go browse the market forum. Some have multiple billions beyond that. Do we target them for these "things?" They're just going to make more inf to replace it - and those "things" would (in most instances) have to be *very* good at the prices that would make the top earners even bat an eyelash... which brings up balance with the rest of the game.

Again, I wouldn't argue with seeing more fixed-price items. I just don't think it'd have any real impact on the top prices.

    Concealment pool

Someone with the numbers will have to answer the first.
Invisibility (and Phase Shift) are toggles.
You can't attack while using Invisibility.
If someone else hits you with Grant Invisibility, they're invisible until they attack.
Phase Shift works for 30 seconds at a time.

If you want Invisibility without the "no attack," at 20 you can go into Siren's Call. You can (by doing the patrol) be awarded a "Combat Invisibility" which WILL let you attack. You can be awarded it three times, each one lasts up to 30 minutes of use. (I tend to recommend the Warburg temp power over picking up Phase Shift as well.)
  10. There's a story reason for the hunts, as I recall. So lifting zone restrictions wouldn't help (also, how would it reduce zone hopping if you have to go from zone to zone anyway?) Now, lifting *neighborhood* restrictions - that'd be nice, especially where neighborhoods aren't easily defined or don't match the map (Croatoa, I'm looking at you.)

For the TFs, though, there's a different solution that would cover most/all of your points. Make them instances - likely just train missions. You could potentially combine the "zone" groups, as well. Sure, they'd still be grey in many instances, but you'd be in and out in no time while maintaining what the TF's trying to do, story-wise.

    Which Server?

    However.

City of Heroes/Villains is heavily instance-based. There are a few spots where some players gather, but you won't see huge throngs of toons hanging out like you do in other MMOs. They are all doing door missions. You'll want to learn to use the team search tool, and also find the global channels on your specific server to find/make teams.

Also, are you on a trial? Due to RMT spammers, trial accounts are severely gimped. Basically it makes it nearly impossible to communicate in anything other than local chat, which must be highly irritating.

Oh yeah, and Welcome to City of Heroes! You'll get lots more suggestions in this thread momentarily.
/this. The difference between "Everyone run around outside, hope nobody spawn-camps the one boss you need, etc" from so many other MMOs and COH's instance-heavy design (which makes sense if you think of it - it's in a city, after all, and you're doing everything in buildings and sewers) can be a bit of a shock. (Edit: Plus, past the first few missions, people don't need to head back to contacts - just call in and go. So you don't see people there, either.)

It's not dead, no matter how it looks.

Take advantage of global channels - and while you're here, head down to the server specific forums and ask around, browse through and see what kind of population and events go on.

Plus, every server has its own "personality."

Don't just compare the recipes, but the salvage needed. Sure, a recipe at 5000INF vs 3,000,000 for the crafted IO sounds like "buy the recipe," but if you're having to put out 3.5 mill for the salvage, well...

(And don't forget to consider AE tickets for the rare salvage and whatnot.)

GR is not "half out." People that prepurchased have two of the powersets coming out. They do not have that first incarnate slot, they cannot start praetorians, they cannot run any praetorian content, they cannot switch sides, etc, etc, etc.

GR is maybe - *maybe* - "5% out. " And that only for prepurchasers.

No, you didn't. You gave a "This is a random bunch of numbers that don't really mean much." You don't see people that are hidden. You don't see people on the other side. You're doing it at a lousy time of day to begin with (really? Tuesday, noon EST?)

Take a sampling every half hour, or every hour, or some reasonable frequency (which is not "once or twice a day") of unique globals on every server for the next month and you'll have a leg to stand on. This? This is as useless as me saying "Port Oakes is completely empty because I didn't see anyone around the sub when I came out of the mayhem mission I just (literally) finished."

Assumption. WAR advertised. They don't have much in the way of population. Tabula Rasa advertised. They are dead. Advertising is not the magic bullet. Could we use more? Absolutely. Is it "The Cause?" Nope.

COH is very different from most MMOs. Some people may complain about "grind" here, but I'd have to think they've never played some of the Korean-based MMOs - insane grind. Some things people "expect" just aren't here - including having everyone standing around outside doing missions.

Hell, look how fast COH crashed and burned in Korea...

Again, not arguing that we shouldn't advertise more - we should - but assuming it doesn't because we don't advertise is false.

  17. I think the only comic that does has Horus becoming a Kheldian - essentially "you're hurt, I'm hurt, we can help each other, how about it?"

It's very much left up to the individual, with a few "general rules" -

    - Peacebringers and Warshades will only merge with someone who agrees with it.
    - Nictus tend to force their way in, or take advantage of their host-to-be (either though things like the "rent-a-bodies" the Council keeps handy, or slow conversion of Galaxies through Nictus fragments or the like.)

I'd assume there's at least one section with "Fill out form 194D1-K in triplicate," since the PPD has a Kheldian corps and it would be in character for a government division.
  18. I think it'd be a great idea. Not sure if the store-side folks would be happy trying to make a "pick three," but then again, they provided the "choose one of these two" with the Architect edition.

This is incorrect. Temp powers such as the raptor pack are shared. You have to re-add them to your tray from the powers window, but they are still there. Enhancements/IOs are not shared between builds, however. (So if, say, I wanted to use a KB protection IO in the sample builds, I'd need one for each build to keep the benefit regardless of build.)
  20. Since I happen to be working on a character that uses these, I thought I'd use her as an example of dual builds.

The character's meant to be sort of a "dimensional cop/detective." It's also a "I should really try dual pistols, and I'd like a paired set I'll have wiggle room with." I'd played Force Fields before (50 Earth/FF controller, for one,) and the set fit the bill. (Concept wise, I wanted to fit stealth in somewhere.)

So, reasons for dual builds on her?
Solo vs Team - Leaning towards more "me" powers and damage slotting solo versus team buffs, utility and secondary effects on the team build.
Concept vs Team - Some power selections (stealth, detention field) that I can now pick or use more freely than I would on a team build.

I'm sure the min-max crowd are going to look at these and have convulsions but these are work-it-out-for-fun builds, not uber, "the one true way" type builds. (And they'll likely be changed as I level, anyway.) I'm putting them here just as examples.

The solo build - solo, of course, not having team shields and the like (and snagging stealth for concept,) team sacrificing some attacks for team utility.

The solo build, of course, leans more toward damage - I'm solely relying on myself, my force fields and what not to get through missions more quickly. (Aside from the lower spawn sizes, of course.) Being able to ignore team shields (and pick up otherwise discounted powers like detention field, since I don't have to worry about confusing the team) leads to a lot of flexibility.

The team build gives up damage, not just in having fewer attacks in favor of buffs, but in actually slotting for less damage in favor of secondary effects (slows, defense debuffs and the like.)

You can do this with other sets as well, such as Thermal, Sonic, Cold Domination and Empathy to varying degrees.

As far as the OP, if it's "To see if you can" or "bragging rights," sure, it's worth it. If it's in search of some great reward (tons of merits, etc.) no. And I've got to agree with the "Solo with something unusual (or no preparation)" side of the argument. Some builds are "known GM/AV killers," others aren't. It's like hearing someone say "I hit 180 Mph." If they follow it with "In my sports car/airplane/sport bike," meh, ok, have fun with that. If they follow it with "in my modified Yugo," that will raise an eyebrow and be worth seeing, just for laughs.

Guild Wars has wholly separate PVP.

I want to say the Dredgion in Aion is like this, but I haven't run it. It's still more a PvPvE instance than a PVP "task force," though, from the description - but worth pointing out about for its attempts to balance teams and such.

I half wonder if doing this similarly to the old CoP trial (open only at certain times - but more frequently for the TF) would help the population issue as far as getting people together to do it.
