Quote:.... never felt "slighted" in the least. And I had Khelds unlocked in I4.
Rule one in sales.. Make everyone happy. Sure those of us that worked to 50 for them feel a slighted
(And really - as far as VEATs go - not fond of them, particularly. Really felt rushed, given the storylines available to Khelds, and to me the veats are just not that interesting.) -
Dont' think it has screenshots, but if you're wondering what powers are available, it will list them broken down by AT.
Leviathan -
Power Level Effect
Spirit Shark 41 Ranged Damage over time (Lethal) Foe: Knockback
Water Spout 41 PBAoE Minor Damage (Smashing) Foe: Knockback/Fear/Disorient

Spirit Shark Jaws 44 Ranged DoT (Lethal) Foe: Hold -Fly
Summon Guardian 47 Summon Warder: Ranged Moderate Damage (Smashing)
1. - Throw a shark.
2 - little tornado.
3 - You're in a block of ice.
4- Giant shark sticking out of the ground.
5 - Like the coral guardians in Sharkshead.

Zapp 41 Sniper, Extreme Damage(Energy), Foe -Endurance
Electric Shackles 44 Ranged, Minor Damage(Energy), Foe: Hold, -Endurance
Ball Lightning 44 Ranged (Targeted Area of Effect), Moderate Damage over Time(Energy), Foe -Endurance
Summon Adept 47 Summon Mu Adept: Ranged Moderate Damage(Energy)
All red lightning, of course - watch any mu (or Shock Treatment for ball ightning.) Electric Shackles looks like what it sounds like - red electric "arcs" holding the target to the ground.
Dark Blast 41 Ranged, Moderate Damage(Negative), Foe: -Accuracy
Moonbeam 41 Sniper, Superior Damage(Negative), Target -Accuracy
Soul Storm 44 Ranged, Moderate Damage over Time(Negative), Foe: Hold
Shadow Meld 44 Self: +DEF
Summon Widow 47 Summon Blood Widow: Melee Moderate Damage(Lethal)
Soul storm's going to be the bright glowy tentacles spinning someone in midair. The blasts aren't bright (as I recall,) but just like Dark Blast. Shadow meld - unknown. I *want* to say it's like the dark armors, but don't recall right offhand. -
I could see them adding maybe 1 more - but I'd also want "AE Tickets" added to "Combat attributes" so you can monitor. (Though IIRC it does come up in your chat/combat logs. I believe.)
-
Heh.
Thing is, if Lucas wanted something to "count" as a field-measure of Force strength, he could still have used them - just changed the explanation slightly. (OK, and gotten rid of the "Oh, and midichlorians are your father, lu... er, Anakin." "Nooooooo!") -
Quote:/this.Sounds like you guys play with some real grumpy and picky people.
Reason to invite someone:
"Hey, we have a spot."
Reason not to:
"Ugh. Played with that guy before, he never listens, runs off on his own then starts complaining when he dies five miles from everyone else. He's no fun."
Don't worry about anything else. -
And when they created that, "We the people" who could vote were white male landowners. Poor? Ignore them. Women? Pfft. And black, hispanic or native american? Nope.

Quote:And if we can lower the risk - the *very point* of this thread, which is for those who ARE affected to identify themselves and what causes the problem so it can be adjusted and those effects avoided by the devs in the future - so much the better, don't you think? It is not "opinion" that people with suscepibility to visual effects should limit potential exposure. There is a standard labeling on most video game products that speaks directly to this fact, as is the case with Microsoft products here:
http://www.microsoft.com/games/home/...e_warning.aspx
While some changes can be made to make the game safer for some suffers, it is simply the case that the risk is always there.
Now, can we not clutter this up? -
Quote:Er...The +End IO only gives a +10% recovery buff, but that's to your overall Recovery, not just the power it's in.
The END IO gives you 10% END as an actual increase of your current END (IE, if you have 105 END max, you're at 40, if the IO goes off, you have 50.5,) not a recovery % buff. YOu can see it in your combat window, or logs if you keep them - for instance:
Quote:05-11-2011 21:30:00 Memphis Bill grants you 10.68 points of endurance with his Performance Shifter: Chance for +Endurance!
05-11-2011 21:30:00 You grant Memphis Bill an infusion of 10.68 endurance! -
Found this to be rather cute.
And wish it were an actual series, now. *sigh*
(I've seen one other, similar item - even had it as wallpaper for a bit. -
Quote:Again, this isn't an opinion thread. On the flip side, a person who is that susceptible to seizures who spends long hours looking at a video monitor or movie screen is gambling dangerously with their health. There is, sadly, a personal health maintenance aspect to this situation that the developers have no control over. Changing visual effects may partially lower risk, but it does not eliminate it. A person with extreme vulnerability to lighting effects "happily playing" for a month is engaging in extremely reckless behavior and needs to take serious steps to reduce or eliminate exposure. While specific visual effects can be triggers in some people, it is impossible to predict which people will react to which visual, and the only acceptable treatment is avoidance of possible input.
If a trigger is identified, it's completely acceptable to bring it to the developers attention so they can change it and/or avoid those effects in the future.
This isn't even about "extreme vulnerability." Someone may not *know* they're vulnerable to specific effects causing problems until they hit them - such as myself with the old sonic graphics. Finding ones that are causing problems in people that *do* have more extreme reactions (from migranes to siezure) can also assist those others.
(For a non-me example, there was actually someone (buried among those just being ***es) who had a legitimate problem with the *new* Sonic Dispersion - it actually DID send him into a siezure. He didn't know he was vulnerable to it. The only other time he'd been hit with that, he didn't remember, because it was in one of the SAW movies right at the beginning and he didn't remember that time at all. When he checked with a neurologist, he found it was an exceptionally rare trigger. He operated perfectly fine, playing the game for hours, before that. Now, how would he avoid this if he didn't KNOW about it to begin with, and didn't remember the times he'd actually been affected? - Also, I believe he argued against changing it again, since he could turn down the graphics on his end and not be affected and because it was so exceptionally rare. If I could remember who it was, I'd double check with him.) -
Quote:Yeah, this is true - is there even functionality at most (say) Barnes and Noble stores to buy ebooks, other than their wifi leading to their website?Very true, but I think given that Amazon are one of the biggest booksellers going, it's very indicative of which way the trend is going. Admittedly, Amazon are online, so it will be more likely for them to be selling e-books more as it's a downloadable format, bricks and mortar shops are less likely, but even my local Waterstones has an increasing e-book reader display all the time.
Sadly, it's likely to lead to the closure of more high street retail outlets
And that's the other thing, too - the loss of brick and mortar stores. I've had some really good recommendations and conversations there. (Can't remember all of them, but I know I started into Kevin J. Anderson's Saga of Seven Suns because of it. Of course, thanks to used books, I was getting hardcovers cheaper than new paperbacks, too.)
... and aside from "used," one other thing physical media has over ebooks. You can give them to someone, discover them, and have them as part of your family history. Yes, I know you can (DRM allowing) transfer a file, but which feels better - receiving a file, or having someone hand you their beautifully leather-bound copy of, say, the works of Shakespeare or (as I did for my cousin - and she still remembers and treasures a decade plus later) the Hitchhiker's Guide, with a little message inside?
This tends to lead to other types of media, too. How many have run across old photographs of (say) their father or other relative in WWI/WWII/Korea/Vietnam, or "the old house" in a barely-recognizable town or the like? Short of a very nice printout on archival media - which takes it out of the digital realm - who's going to "run across" those holiday .jpgs of you in 30-40-50 years? Will the files even exist? (Heck, files nothing, will .jpg even be around then, much less some of the proprietary formats?)
We can read Shakespeare now. The language has shifted some, but we can read it. The printed word - the "book" - is a simple, easy to use, almost universal format. Meanwhile, there are file types less than a decade old that have lost support - I have to dig around for something to read a commercially produced PhotoCD. -
This is not an "Opinion" thread. This is asking flat out who has problems - physical, "These cause me pain" problems. There's nothing there to disagree with. It's not a "Do you like this or not" thread. It's a "Raise your hand if this is you" thread.
To put it another way, if I say "Who is allergic to popular pizza toppings and which ones," the correct answer is either "Me - tomato," or "Me - pepperoni" (or not answering because they don't bother you,) not "I'm not and those people can go kill themselves" or "I like tomato and everyone else should too." Answering like that - which is what you're doing - just makes you seem like a tool.
Re-read the original post. Especially the part in yellow. I have *no* tolerance for those who are going to sit here and just say "I don't care if other people suffer. They can FOAD." Not after what I put up with from those same people trying to get Sonic altered so that, oh, *more people could play and enjoy the game," as opposed to - for instance - last night when I came off of work just in time for a friend to tell me "sorry, logging - barrier induced headache."
Empathy - not just a powerset. -
Well, do remember that that article is specifically talking about "on Amazon," not overall.
-
*cough*
Er... link. For satire, someone has to be aware of the original source. It has to have some relation besides, oh, names. (See Star Wars to Spaceballs, Shaun of the Dead to - well, most zombie movies.)
Quote:A report in an American Cinematographer article states that the Heinlein novel was optioned well into the pre-production period of the film, which had a working title of Bug Hunt at Outpost Nine; most of the writing team reportedly were unaware of the novel at the time. According to the DVD commentary, Paul Verhoeven never finished reading the novel, claiming he read through the first few chapters and became both "bored and depressed."
The best thing that came out of Starship Trooopers?
This. (Read it on Usenet originally. Glad to see it's been put elsewhere for some degree of posterity.)
(Now, for a no-thinking-needed, "ooh, explosions and breasts! But mostly explosions!" movie, it works. For anything related to Starship Troopers, the ingredients on the side of Metamucil would make a closer script. And better "satire.") -
Quote:Trying to remember who else did this - I know it was someone I read, not an unfamiliar name. Gaiman, Pratchett, someone like that. And saw the same thing. Sure, the book was shared/pirated (depending on your POV,) but the other books (and the same one, at times) saw sales boosts (sometimes of the print copy as well.)DelRay has a selection of free e-books, and many its authors will attest that after placing their book on the free list, the sales of that book and others by that author will get a sales bump. This is because the customers like what they read and came back for more. Sadly most publishers do not understand this, and place unnecessary restrictions on their books.

Also, Dark One:
Quote:You may be buying blank tapes, but actual movie are no longer made on them
Quote:VHS, I can still go to Wal-mart and buy. (Saw it just the other day, actually.) They're still selling VHS-only players and VHS/DVD combos. They're simple and cheap - people understand "put in a tape and have it record."
Quote:Now, movies tend to be sold mostly on DVD now, true. But VHS hasn't gone away yet.
so... :P -
A world with some Terminator/Clockwork mix.
The Supers showed up, but weren't generally helpful. Normal mankind, however, was more technologically advanced (Positron and Aeon, essentially, leading the resistance without the whole flame/etc.) They knew THEY weren't quick enough, so they created a computer - an AI, with the (fortunately limited, as it never had its own schematics or some such handwave) ability to create "nanobots" that can turn any metal scrap into a new enemy.
It took care of most of the superpowered threats that came anywhere near a "first world," industrial area - then it started in on the ungrateful normal humans.
Any scrap pile you go by could simply "wake up" and start attacking. Any sort of tech (metal/circuitry, really - the survivors have gotten very good with ceramics and composits) could turn against you.
Dreamworld -
Psionically ruled - but you don't realize it at first. Everyone's in a dream. Seems perfect until you start noticing things "not right," and when you start to investigate you draw notice. Makes Mother Mayhem's seers/thought police seem absolutely trivial, power wise. You get there before a few small bands of resistants (not "resistance," though they are that too) start putting their plans for "awakening" into motion. -
Lord of the Rings: OK.
Starship Troopers: Too much. -
Quote:Used book stores are great. >.>Wait wait wait .... Where are you getting $5 paperbacks nowadays? I guess maybe used or off of Amazon (I visit a local store so I'm not up on Amazon's general pricing), but the cheapest 'list' price for paperbacks I've seen lately is $7.99 (let's just say $8). I've even seen mass markets as high as $10.
Heck, even dollar stores can have decent paperbacks here and there. -
Quote:So. You have no health issues with the graphics.Yep you're going to hate me even more for this but i actually did know and i simply do not care. I do not want other ppls problems effecting my game simple truth.
Why are you posting in the thread then? This is not an opinion thread. This is trying to find out who is physically affected by what graphics so Tunnel Rat and the others can have the information and rectify the situation (and avoid it in the future.) -
Quote:Resurrected by scientists: Unless that's what gave him powers, irrelevant. What about the guy who was resurrected by scientists after being killed by magic lightning while lifting weights in a toxic chemical vat made of robot parts?
Killed by magic lightning: See above.
Lifting weights: Is the strength gained his power? If so, natural.
In a toxic chemical vat: Is it the basis of his powers? If so, science, most likely
made of robot parts: Assuming you mean the vat, irrelevant. -
If that's "a little time," a Bugatti Veryon is only "a little more expensive" than a ford focus.

Quote:Ugh. Don't remind me of that mess.My big hope is for it to allow more school districts and book publishers greater flexibility in what books they publish. Instead of the current situation where the book publishers have to accommodate the requirements of two states and leave everyone else with whatever sanitized version of education that the state in question uses.
That said, some places *are* using electronic books in the classroom. (I've heard of a few districts using ipads, among other things.)
Also, http://www.coursesmart.com/ (just for an example.)
Trying to remember what one ereader was - I thought it'd be perfect for this sort of thing. Two screens, you could have one for books, one for notes/online/etc, pages on both screens - it was really flexible and rather nice. Can't recall the name though. -
Quote:This is badly, badly incorrect. Now, some TYPES of film may no longer be made - but even Polaroids (I mean the instant type) have had someone pick up production of the "film." But film itself is still easily available for 35mm cameras. (Most common type.) Nobody makes 110 any more, its niche has been taken over by digital (110 being for those thin point and shoots for casual use - the very market for cheap digital cameras.)For how much longer? Remember VHS? Ya, no one's really selling those anymore. Nor real camera film.
VHS, I can still go to Wal-mart and buy. (Saw it just the other day, actually.) They're still selling VHS-only players and VHS/DVD combos. They're simple and cheap - people understand "put in a tape and have it record."
Now, movies tend to be sold mostly on DVD now, true. But VHS hasn't gone away yet.
Quote:But that e-reader only tends to do ONE thing...read books.
Quote:And why would I be carrying around so many books? If I'm not in my home, then I'm out for a reason.
Quote:Sitting in a motel room listening to music that you brought from home...sounds like a real vacation to me.
Quote:If you lose a book on a vacation, are you going to be mad? Or are you going to shrug your shoulders and get on with it? Conversely, if you lose an ereader (or it gets stolen, a much more likely scenario), you're going to be out a fair bit of cash. Rather than $5 for a paperback. -
Quote:If you're looking at "loss" (as opposed to "DRM that might or might not be allowed to be removed when the reader goes obsolete,") I'd say anyone that doesn't have their ebooks - or any other all-digital media, like movies and music - backed up in at least two locations pretty much is asking for it.
You do however have to worry about having all your eggs in one basket.
eBooks, for what they contain, are generally small. Mozy (free) or box.net is probably enough to house most peoples' collections and have room to spare. (Plus, of course, local backup - most of my stuff is backed up remotely, and on a NAS with two drives in a mirrored RAID. Which is actually fairly cheap.) -
Well, part of it is being looked at - but still, when my Ice/Emp controller can start killing (standard or +1/1-2 player team size) groups solo like a blaster, it's a touch much. (Reactive +Sleet +AOE immob = lots of proccing.)
Which, if we were at or near the top of the Incarnate tree would be fine - but we're only at the halfway point.
I mentioned elsewhere - what I'd look at is extending the idea in the level shift. Alpha's works everywhere - ok, 1 level's not bad. But have the powers have one level of ability in normal content, and when in an Incarnate "space" (trial, an invasion flagged as "incarnate," future possible incarnate arcs, etc.) the Incarnate abilities go to full strength. Higher damage, faster proccing, higher levels, etc.
This would let the player maintain a "more powerful Incarnate" feel without overpowering (too much) regular content - and let the Incarnate content go over the top.
