  1. Sneaking up on an unsuspecting hero with my stalker just to pelt them in the face with a snowball
Didnt think they would actually kill me, spoilsport :P

    Oppressive Gloom

Does anyone have any experience of the "Oppressive Gloom" power from the epic power sets? If it does what it says on the tin then it should keep a foe helpless for as long as your hp doesnt run out. Seems mighty useful in PvP.

Would it have been easier if i compared it to an Aboriginal Boomerang, or a bad penny, or Brussel Sprouts?

    I like brussel sprouts :P

    Back on topic...
I've been changing my mind back and forth over this issue since it started. Having finally made my own stalker and taken him for a test run in bloody bay, I dont think he's over powered (maybe when i get him pushed up a few lvls and slot acc and dam, who knows). I've never seen my own AS 1 shot anyone, i've grouped with other stalkers to try and double AS a single player and they still have HP left. I think part of the problem comes from people building what i call "support characters", designed primarily (maybe even exclusively) to help provide the backbone of a good team. My defender, Docbot is a support character, and so doesnt do very well against stalkers (solo), the best i can hope for is to get away after the initial strike.
I dont really play any other heroes than docbot so I dont have any other PvP experiences, just now i'm building a few "stalker hunter" heros based on what i've learned from getting beat with my own stalker (which happens about 50 % of the time).
I'm also going to make a new defender with the same powersets as docbot and build him for PvP (docbot v2).
So far as a stalker the 2 biggest pests are the "artic air" power and caltrops.
  4. If we can get enough stormies with freezing rain, we could give the place a consistent festive frosty look
  5. hey! i think you might be right there. :|

    Stalkers in PvP

I dont think i've ever been AS'd with repel turned on, could be wrong though. One stalker attacked me, got pushed away and i heard him saying "oh. repel, bad idea!"
This guy seemed to know what he was doing as well.

Other than that, repel is a good panic button. Last night a team mate was getting swarmed by a MM pets and loosing energy fast. I put him on follow and pushed all the mobs away.
  7. I recently made a storm/dark defender. Its a lot different from the kinetic/electric set i'm used to, still loads of fun to use and theres some great powers in there.

ps. i think defenders are prolly my favorite hero as well
  8. I'll prolly try and drop by for a wee while. To anyone planning on messing the event up, a bad reputation can be your worst enemy.

    Stalkers in PvP

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm a kinetic/dark defender and as such I have no protection against their AS.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Docbot, my defender, is a kinetic/electric, if you have the repel power, and keep it turned on, I think it messes with a stalkers AS. Anytime they attacked me and i have the power on, I can only remember them scoring critical hits, not AS. Should give you at least a chance of getting away.

On the other side, I finally got my stalker to lvl 15 and spent the last 2 days in bloody bay with mixed results.

I didnt think there were hero vs villain battles in the arena anyway.
Besides, I know i prolly couldnt be bothered to walk there, maybe a system like the one in jedi academy where both dueling players get covered in a force field that only the other can penetrate.

hehe. I play ghostblade. glad you were'nt put off PvP 'ardman.
For everyone else who doesnt know what i'm on about. I took my stalker to the bay 1st time ever yesterday. Fought 'ardman, was pleasantly surprised to see a snowman pet (temp power, i summoned him ages ago as wemm) mince around the corner he must have follwed me halfway across the map.
Anywho, I wanted to fight 'ardman 1 on 1, to bad a nasty villain interfered

I dont attack AFK players, in fact sometimes, if we get continuous attacks from the same people, i pretend to go AFK to test if someone is a plonker or not. Other than that i'd do anything as long as it doesnt cost the other person debt, attacking them when they are engaged with other mobs can be too tempting sometimes though :c|
Once someone fights "dirty" though I say chuck any morals and do whatever you can to win >
  13. How do people move there team around?
In a game like quake or jedi academy, you only have to worry about yourself. When you have a varied team of anymore than 2 or 3, things start to get pretty complex. To the point where its impossible to persue/hunt anyone without the teams formation breaking up (assuming there ever was one) and the weaker members becoming vulnerable to unexpected attacks.

Add in that everyone might have different travel powers and things get more complex still. (I teamed with a stormie once and simply put her on follow so i would stay in her hurricane, still left me open when she persued as she could fly faster).

I've thought about maybe having a flying blaster invis and floating over the whole team whose main job is to react to any unexpected attacks. I've also thought of a pairing up system.

Might be obvious that i find this sort of stuff deeply interesting it be good to get some other peoples opinions.

As we saw in the big PvP events Stalkers were less of a danger as they were prone to being reveled by the many AoEs and PbAoes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you sure AoE's reveal stalkers? I've only ever seen it interrupt there AS, but it still leaves them hidden and able to get an opening critical hit from a regular attack.

    Naming minions

I've called my zombies mr chomps and mr festor.
Mr festor used to be mrs chomps but i changed it. Still not sure what to call my 3rd zombie or my grave night, you can be certain it will be Mr something though.
  16. I have a stalker, he's too little to pvp yet, so my opinion maybe isnt the most educated one.

Anywho, if stalkers are causing you problems and you have both games, the best thing you can do is make one and pvp for a little. Even if you only use your stalker for a while, maybe you will make enough mistakes against better players that you can learn from those mitakes to:

    a. become a better stalker
    b. replicate what got you killed as a stalker, and thus learn to deal with them more effectively.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
So if you hate stalkers that much make a ice/devices blaster. slot aim tactics and TD with 3 tohit buffs and you wont miss a thing.
    Works for me anyway

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I might try that now
    Take that you nasty stalker!!
  18. [ QUOTE ]

Heh, I used to do this little thing with a old temp power the conficated bean bag... I can't count the number of times I've surprised players by blasting them with that when they come for me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I love that bean bag
Was a bit dissapointed when it ran out
Is there a place to buy a new one, thats something i'd always have,
  19. Drat!
I was going to post this as a suggestion today, too late now.
I hope there immunity drops right away if they attack another player within that 30 seconds
  20. LOL @ "assist the brute".
I've seen me attack the mobs surrounding the brute, but i still leg it after one or two strikes, sticking around is a recipe for disater IMO.
I agree with the sense of tension in thief, and it would be great if we had that here. Only way to add it would be to give some chance of being caught out while hiding. I still enjoy analysing the layout of the mobs and the zone, i tend to treat it as a puzzle, which is excatly the same way i play the thief games (and Aliens Vs preditor2, those alien missions could be described as stealthy).
Something i've tried in teams is to double assasinate a mob far too big for one stalker. ie. me and another stalker will attempt to AS them at roughly the same time. I've also arranged for a single stalker to attempt an assasination while i tp them out right after it. That hasnt worked so far though, mostly because recal friend has such a long wind up I end up teleporting a corpse :S We agreed it would require expert timing.
  21. I found it a bit odd at 1st too. Have you ever played any of the "thief" games. I play similar to that with my stalker. Today i had to clear out a lvl and kidnap someone. 1st section had 2 mobs bunched together and 1 mob a short distance away. I scouted ahead to find a suitable place to run to if need be, came back AS'd him, then ran like linford christie on laxatives. I done pretty much the same thing through the whole lvl, analysing the lay out of the mobs, which one was best to attack, which of his mates might see me and chase, if i would be able to take on his mates and survive, and scouting for hidey holes. I'm only just starting to enjoy playing my stalker, largely cos i tried to use him as a scrapper and got a proper kicking. Now that i'm enjoying it more, i think i prefer the challenge of soloing missions.
When i am in a team, i simply hang back, pick the target which is the biggest threat to the team (not necesarily the boss, could be a ranged attacker thats firing off at a fair old rate), attempt to AS then kill them, then run and wait for hide to work again. If the team starts to outnumber the mobs, and i think we will clear up pretty soon, i'll skip the running part and switch to taking the mobs down as fast as i can using regualr attacks.

Apologies to Marquand, I was rude... you happened to be in the way when I ran out of patience with a lot of this thread.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Accepted.

PS. Marquand is NEVER my real name :P
  23. I wouldnt miss this for anything
    Count me in
  24. [ QUOTE ]

You want unbalanced, try killing something while playing a defender!

From my point of view, all the other AT's should be nerfed and Defenders made better in PVP!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe if we get the snowball temp power this year we will hit a little harder
  25. [ QUOTE ]
If its too hard to remove the last 10% it could be better to reduce to 5%. Will need testing and a discussion.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'd say that against a scrapper it would be reasonable, if, after an AS the result was a draw half the time. People will still complain about not being able to see the stalker coming, cant see a solution to that and i cant think of any games which have solved the problem.

BTW, if anyone knows of a multiplayer stealth game which as solved the problem (something like multiplayer thief, i love thief) i'd love to know about it.
