How did this thread get so off track?
I thought we were talking about me, and how right I always am.

I have learned through my long list of relationships, that you can be "right" or you can be "happy".
I am resigned to being unhappy.
Edit:
If I cross the street, on a green, having looked both ways first and a car comes speeding towards me, I might die....but I will die knowing I was right, and frankly that is more important to me at this time. -

Dude, it's the modern age. Women have internet kiosks in the kitchen now so they can look up recipes.

[/ QUOTE ]LOL, my wife (the main earner in our household) made me do this very thing for this very reason. She now has an open laptop mounted on the wall in the kitchen a la star trek, so that she can look up recipes.

That is not the point, at all. There is a right way and a wrong way to argue a point, and bringing in personal attacks is the wrong way. Asking for an apology while summarily bringing up personal things completely unrelated to the situation is disingenuous at best, and hypocritical at worst.
For what it's worth, I too would like to see a public statement of apology. I just don't think insulting the person you're asking it of is the right way to go about it. Call me crazy, but if someone where to say to me "You owe me an apology, you fat person with a stupid haircut" (to use both of your examples), I'd feel rather disinclined to offer one, whether I was in the wrong or not.

I have 5 level 50 toons that I have grinded for evey level I got. Grinding for badges is my enjoyment in this game and it is why I still pay for 2 accounts. Let me break it down If I lose one badge that I have grinded so hard for I will close both of my COH accounts. Look I don't want this to come off as a threat I am just stating a fact after 2 years paying for the game grinding for every badge I have, you will take my fun away and why should I pay for what is no longer fun
[/ QUOTE ]
NEWSFALSH: you are playing the game wrong, while I am sure the devs are sorry to see two subs laps, they would rather you play their game their way and have their fun.

you could afk the whole thing and not be bothered
[/ QUOTE ]
I have often done this. Its a form of power leveling, and we have often traded or taken turns. I enjoy being able to go afk and accomplish real life things, and come back to some new levels. In fact I think that is what the whole leveling pact thing is about.
As for risk vs reward. I had never heard about that until I started this game, and you know what? it's stupid.
What they are really talking about when they say "risk vs reward" is managing your addiction. They want to make sure they give you enough to satisfy you a little but not so much that you don't come back for more.
I do not play this game because of an addiction. I play it because it allows me to have a creative outlet. I play to think outside the box, and come up with new and creative uses of the powers, and classes. I understand that a lot of people play for the addiction, but I am not one, nor do I believe it is healthy to play for that reason.
But I respect that others have the desire to play for those reasons, and am happy to let them. -

I agree with that article someone posted: if things come too easily, people will soon get bored and leave.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem with this sentiment, is that its an opinion with no research to back it at all.
I do not play this game for the sense of community, in fact I think the idea of a virtual community is pretty dumb. But I respect your right to enjoy it.
You however are not respecting my desire to farm, which is something you think is dumb.
All the people I used to farm with, were here for more than 3 years. we all had a ton of lv 50's and just enjoyed farming, with a loose association to each other. The only reason a lot of them left was because of Positrons official statement regarding farming.
So my considerable anecdotal evidence, seems to indicate that the idea of people getting bored when stuff is too easy is false.
Having said that, I can see why in a non-MMo style game, cheats can easily ruin the game and make it repetitive and pointless. Balder's gate comes to mind. But an MMO, and specifically this game, is different, there is far too much to try and accomplish to make it boring.
just something to think about.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure, City of Heroes kind of has a built in safety net around that, as there are tons of different powerset combinations to try out and such. Part of the fun is rolling up a new character with different powersets to see how that plays. However, when things are going ZOMG SUPER FAST even THAT can wear out, and people might think "Well, I've done everything this game has to offer. Time to see what MMO X is like." It's obviously in the developers' best interest to try and prevent that, whether it's actually going to happen or not.
I want to point out to everyone that this is me agreeing with their intent, not their actions. If you're going to flame me, do it for a good reason. Insult my ethnic heritage, for example.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have over 40 lv 50's at last count. probably more...and a ton of 40ishes......and the only thing that ever made me consider quitting...ever....was being told how I am allowed to have fun.
Because even if you make one of every AT, you still have bases, and PvP, and an emotional/creative investment in what you create. I will not admit to having made a few LV 50's in less than 8 hours. But if I did I would value them as much as all my other toons (which is a lot) -

The University of Guelph did a study that states less than 6% of people who are overweight, are overweight because of a disability. Meaning that the other 94% have a choice. If you make fun of someones new haircut because it is stupid, it is not a low blow. It was their choice and it was a dumb decision.
The same goes for getting fat.
And I say this form the perspective of someone who until recently was 5'8" and 240lbs. (I am now 180 and still consider myself chubby)
So not a low blow.

It's way too much. That's an incredibly low blow, and it doesn't help anything.
Also, I don't know where the idea comes from this these are Posi's rules or that the buck stops with him on customer service matters. This is, indeed, a customer service issue, and Posi is not a part of that. Let's stop dragging him into it, ok?
And seriously Liv, you're better than that kind of petty personal attack.

Actually, just the opposite. I agree with everything they've done that I can think of. Up to and including draconian dictatorship.

I really hope people rethink quitting a game over what was probably a huge mistake by the devs.
The friends ive made playing this game are why I still play years later, trust me its not to do another ITF.
I just hope people take a break and come back with a fresh approach to the game we all love. But don't leave angry over one stupid move by the devs when they gave us so much fun over the years.
Even I am putting one of my accounts on hold (this one) just for awhile to have more time for other games but im not leaving.
Please dont leave me alone with con, he touches me.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not that people are leaving for 1 mistake the devs have made. The mistake is a symptom of the attitude the devs harbor. And that is the problem. I love this game. I have committed a lot of time and money to it. I payed for 5 accounts at one time, just to experiment. But unless I see an apology, or a change in command, I think I will stick with one account and a monthly payment schedule so that I can quit as soon as something better comes along. I can't tell you how sad that makes me.
I would have given anything just to hear Positron say that anyone can play this game how they wish. And that we should all have fun. Hell I would have bought 5 lifetime subscriptions had he said that.

[ QUOTE ]
Badges should be about what a character has done. Not about what a player can push the system into doing. Badges have long since lost their meaning, and I think that's sad.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again I disagree with this attitude.
I like thinking outside the box, and discovering new ways of doing things. Especially if that means manipulating existing rules to achieve my goals. I do not see how my doing that, detracts in any way from people who do it the hard way.
How I arrive to my goal has no bearing whatsoever on how you arrive at yours. Take pride in what you do.
Anyone can get any badge if they put enough time into it, the idea that it is some kind of competition is retarded.
It si not up to you to decide "what getting a badge is about" for me.
You seem to think its should be about what your character has achieved in game. Awesome! Enjoy that. But don't sit there and tell me that I have to collect badges for the same reasons. The only meaning badges should ever have are personal, and it is not upt to anyone to tell anyone else how to feel about them. -

<QR>
I'm still playing them and I'm still rating them. There are a lot of fun stories here.
[/ QUOTE ]
And I respect your right to do that.
Personally, I was pissed off for a little while after hearing Posi's post. Not so much because I can't farm, but more because I don't like being told how I can and cannot have fun. So I took a little break, but I am now continuing to go through my huge list, and I am still giving out stars too.
But I do not begrudge anyone who does not. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I wont be running the list anymore. I made it through 31 of them but am done now due to the badge nerf.
[/ QUOTE ]
See, this attitude is ridiculous. "I don't need to have you run my arc because it won't give me any badges any more, so I won't be running any either." This is pathetic. I want people to run my arcs because I want to entertain them with my stories. I want feedback on my arcs so I can improve them.
I was on the fence about the badges being removed. There are some pretty awesome badge titles in there. I got quite a good number of them just running different arcs, and testing my own. I'd see "Badge Earned!" float by and I'd stop and look, thinking "Wow, what's this one for?" But seeing the attitudes expressed in this thread alone put me in favor of it. Seeing some badgers basically saying "[censored] you" to people that actually want their arcs ran to entertain instead of for badges makes me sick.
Cende, I look forward to your updated list, minus the arcs from the quitters who give badging a bad name.
[/ QUOTE ]
See your attitude is what makes me sick.
I hate it when people are so closed minded that it has to be their way or no way. Some people like badging for the sake of badging, and you know what? That's OK. Some people like to make stories, and have them played, and read.....and that's OK too. Hell some people just like to farm, and in spite of what Posi says, that's OK too.
What's not OK, is idiots, who go out and judge you for one or the other.
Just because you don't like something, or you think something is dull, doesn't mean everyone feels the same way. Learn to respect other people. Everyone has the right to enjoy whatever they wish. -
I find it funny that this game is so pro-communist (I am not sure what else to call it socialist maybe?). Everyone has to be the same, everything has to be "fair"
If someone wants to put more effort into something to achieve more than average, not only will that person be prevented from doing it, but he will be penalized.
If you work smarter and harder at something, you will get more rewards. That is how things work in the real world. I know it's not "fair". But seriously suck it up.
If you don't want to work for badges, then go without. Is it fair that others who "farmed" the badges have them and you don't? Yes. Yes it is. nothing stopped you from doing it too. If you don't like doing whatever it is to get something then go without.
But do not condemn those of us who want to go through the effort t of getting them
Thanks.
Edit: My main is a blaster and I do have empath. -
well, it was fun while it lasted

I've often wished there was an accolade like this.
Self-heal, 1 hour recharge. Number of HP healed equals your badge count total.
call it "Inspired by Past Achievements" or something
of course, then all the min-maxers would become badgers to get that power maxed out...
[/ QUOTE ]I love this idea too.
You guys are awesome! -
Now that Toggles dont get turned off in combat. And since costumes are a huge part of that game, and are getting a fair bit of focus right now.
Is there any reason why we cant just make our costume slots toggles? Like the Halloween costumes.....
That way we can switch between them fairly easily.
Just a thought...and I realize there may be a billion technical reasons why ti wont work. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, you could go for a REALLY unique one, if you manage to ding 50 at the same time you ding 700, call it "The Markus Effect" and have it, say, triple the length of that Tier 3 inspiration spam we get when we level.
