  1. What I remember most is what every player remembers if they have been here since the beginning or only for days.

In WoW: broadcast that you wandered into a powerful monster and got killed. Response "LOL NOOB!"

In CoH: broadcast the same and instantly get tells "Logging over to my level 50. Be there in just a minute" or "Give location, my team is on the way."

In any other MMO: ask "How can anybody afford this equipment? I have to grind for hours just to get one item." response "Run more dungeons nub."

In CoH: Trade window opens "Randomhero wants to trade you 500,000 influence"

In this community with very few exceptions it's not just the characters that are the heroes. It's the players behind them.
  2. I don't know if I'll be going anywhere. I do know that I canceled my WoW subscription. I used to use it as a getaway from CoH when I found myself becoming bored. It's fine as a change of pace but for a main game it can't hold my interest.

Hear that Blizzard? I canceled your game because of NCsoft canceling mine. Sick em big dog.
  3. I say go ahead and play while you can. If you buy a stand alone game you might get 10 to 20 hours of play out of it. If it's really good you might be able to get 100 hours of play. Here you will have potentially thousands of hours. And you will spend at least 100 of those in the character creator.
  4. Talk about bait and switch.

"Hey everybody! We're going to do a web series about what the Ponds do when the doctor isn't around."

Episode 1: 90% doctor with a brief appearance of the Ponds at the end.
Episode 2: 50/50 Doctor and Ponds
    Episode 3: 100% Ponds
    Episode 4: 50/50
Episode 5: 90% Doctor with a brief appearance of Amy at the end.

So the Doctor who wasn't supposed to be around actually got more screen time than the Ponds.

And the entire running time is less than what I expected for a single episode. I was really hoping for more of a Sarah Jane Adventures. You know, where the story is ABOUT the title character.
  5. Honestly I think it will be on for a while even if ratings are bad. I'm betting they are planning on using this as a sounding board for characters to use in future movies. If an episode proves to be popular and people are talking about a certain guest hero then Marvel will either give that hero their own movie or stick them in as a guest star in another.
  6. Second episode is also just over 1 minute. And also just as lame. These aren't episodes about what the Ponds do when the doctor isn't around. They are about the doctor contacting them with teasers for the new season. Here I was all excited about the news originally and now I'm just sick of being shown commercials disguised as a web series.

  8. Ok, fantasy cast. And I'm picking people who are actually available for tv series rather than big names who would never do it.

Avon - Michael Rosenbaum (he can go from incredibly charming to totally evil in a split second)

Vila - Wil Wheaton (Wil does arrogant and weasel both quite well)

Gan - Adam Baldwin (He's not huge but does intimidating well)

Servalan - Ming Na (I have loathed her in every bad guy role she has had. So perfect)

Travis - Jamil Walker Smith (So very badass)

Haven't really got any pick for the others yet. Blake could be anybody. Even though it was "Blakes" 7 he was absolutely bland in the role. Which is ok because it let Vila and Avon be such standouts.
  9. Eureka
    Warehouse 13

    My hopes remain high.

It's not just that it hadn't pushed the human race to near extinction. Although over the past few years AIDS has killed about 1.8 million people per year the total number of reported AIDS cases world wide in 1987 was less than 100,000. That's not reported deaths. That's reported infections. Reported deaths were about 17 thousand or around half the yearly deaths from flu in the United States alone. While it was estimated that up to 10 million people could develop AIDS within the next 10 years the actual reported cases and casualties were actually very small at the time.

So jumping on his statement of the possible dangers of AIDS in 1987 is like jumping on somebody from 1928 suggesting that Stalin's new plans might cause a large amount of deaths if he got carried away.

I've never heard of any given 'social aspect' show (ie: they're actually just sitcoms with a bit of snide) so I'm unclear why they'd have 'cult' status either, they're generally more appealing to a broader audience.

Archer, however, there's a show that deserves to have its own cult
The new one wasn't a poor imitation. It was a different genre. The original Battlestar was a space opera in keeping with the popularity of Star Wars. The new one was a war drama following the popularity of more gritty science fiction which was big when it came out. And I really enjoyed the new series until the final episode. Any writer who uses a literal deus ex machina should be skinned alive, rolled in salt and then forced to watch every episode of Barney the Dinosaur and Teletubbies back to back.

And really, I'll repeat. If you have no clue why Better off Ted (a sitcom with a bit of snide) would be on that list then sit down and watch it.

That angered me greatly. I stopped reading his prediction right there.
And why would that anger you? It was a genuine concern back then since the ability of the aids virus to mutate was what made it so difficult to treat and what made it so scary.

Apparently you've forgotten that Sam is a competent martial artist himself holding black belts in several martial arts and kicked butt in many episodes.
  14. It's funny. Already being an adult when Power Rangers first came out in the US I never watched it except fast forwarding through my nephews video tapes to get ideas for my own stage combat work. Seriously they have some really well trained combatants in the fight scenes and they come up with some amazing sequences that lets them use even untrained actors as the hordes of faceless bad guys.

This thread made me go check out the footage of legend war on Youtube and you can tell just how many extras they had to use. There are scenes where a ranger is fighting in the background and is about as graceful as the Star Wars Kid. There is a lesson to be learned in that. When staging a mass battle never put somebody who is completely untrained into an eye catching costume.
  15. Wolverton did pretty good but he took a very conservative view of progress. Which in this case happened to be correct.

Zelazny came close except he couldn't have foreseen that space exploration and biotechnology would slow to a crawl. I really do wish his latest book was about to be released because I would have pre-ordered it for my kindle.
  16. Better Off Ted should be much higher on the list. That show was hilarious. If you haven't seen it do so now. I think it's available on netflix streaming.
  17. Well, I know where I'm going for lunch tomorrow.

    My advice. Get adblock.
  19. I used to do the same thing. Then Big Lots ran out. I was picking them up in bunches at $2 each before they vanished.
  20. This thing is driving me crazy. I love fancy set collections. But I've already got all of the movies in Blu-ray except of course Avengers.
  21. The theatrical version of Daredevil was meh. The directors cut is actually well worth watching.

BZZZZZZZT...I'm sorry you are incorrect but thanks for playing. The correct quote is "Oh no, you did not shoot..."
