I'll put in a vote for Ill/Storm.
Much more fun to play than Ill/Rad. My first 50 was an Ill/Rad. Got it tricked out with perma-PA pre-incarnate. Just boring compared to Ill/Storm, IMO. -
Not really.
You are entitled to the opinion someone has to care, but no, no one really has to care about the story to the degree you choose to about this and other changes.
The writers are doing things you don't like. Oh well, feel free to complain.
Trying to say any of the changes to the story actually matter to the degree you imply is simply not true. It will not hurt the bottom line and that's all that really matters.
Even in this thread, I see the same people complaining just like they complain about every other little change.
No, no one has to care about this crap. You choose to and thus choose to be unhappy about it. -
Quote:How is this a problem?Truth is they want to people to spen more than 15 dollars a month...
Paragon Studios is in business to make money, not to pump out a game for free to the entitled masses.
Spend as much or as little as you like. Seems like a fair deal to me. -
-
I was articulating my opinion about some people enjoying being mad.
You posted "I don't really get what you mean with people enjoying being annoyed." and I was talking about that.
IMO, the same old forumites that complain endlessly about everything just come out in droves about the exclusivity topic, along with the concern-trolls (as my wife calls them). I post my opinions, they post theirs.
It's like the story I heard about some parents talking about the 'award-a-palooza' to at the end of the school year. "And here's on for little Johnny, who remembered to breathe everyday!" Every kid got an award for something, making the awards meaningless.
I disagree with the fundamental principle of losing exclusivity. Coupled with a disdain for any opinion against Paragon for being nice enough to give something away for free, exclusive or not.
What some posters don't seem to understand about me or my posting here either, is that I don't expect to 'win'. They seem to think these forums are some sort of debate where there must be winners and losers, where people must be persuaded to one side or another. If you don't get my point, I don't really care.
----
As far as respect goes, as human beings, I respect everyone until they use force on others. I respect everyone's right to have opinions.
I do not always respect the opinions other have. I post in the same challenging manner in which I interact with people in real life. I use blunt words and blunt logic.
IME, people whom I respect, respect me when I tell them what I really think, rather than treating them with kid-gloves. -
Quote:IMO, it is simply silly and immature to truly care about not getting an exclusive item of this type. Wanting it and missing by a few minutes or something? Sure, that could be disappointing. Caring enough to post a complaint or imply that they company should not ever give away free exclusives? Immature.Huh? I don't get it. Was first reading through the latest posts, thought it was sarcasm. Are you now really saying that, after 28 pages, more people *like* the idea. I asked on Union Chat, and the SG. 1 person said he wouldn't mind because it's an MMO thing. Many others said they'ld quit if they do that. Even more would at least be angry, and some wouldn't care if it was a *cosmetic* item. But would if it was something else. So I don't see many people that even like it in the slightest. But well, that may be because it's Union...ey?
I don't really get what you mean with people enjoying being annoyed.
I have been a gamer for more than 30 years. I have met plenty of gamers that enjoy their geek rage like a warm blanket. Some humans really just like being ticked off. -
Quote:Exactly.EDIT: And furthermore it's not about this item at all, it's the principle of these types of exclusives that result in this type of feedback.
Exclusive giveaways of this type bring out the people that think they are entitled to have an avenue they choose to gain the item in question.
Those people think that they have some sort of inalienable right to these items and argue to remove the exclusivity.
Some people get exclusive items and some do not. Some people have no issue with that and others do. Duh.
IMO those that have the audacity to complain about Paragon giving things away, exclusive or not, are the ones with the problem.
And as to your inference that I made and cancelled FB or Twitter accounts just to get free items, that's stretching pretty far to paint me as a liar, but I have been called worse. -
Quote:The people proposing that making the items exclusive will hurt the game or it's bottom line have no numbers either. This discussion is all supposition and opinion on both sides. You have a strong choice in words for your argument, especially for one with no numbers or actual documentation to back this proclaimed "Exclusive promotions annoy a very small percentage of the customer base." Seems to me, it's quite the opposite. The only ones who seem to be happy about the process are ones that actually gain access to said exclusives like Zenlon, who came in here preaching the same speal you are, with nothing to actually hold any ground in his "holier-than-thou" attitude, then later posts a picture of his character with the aura, which was later removed by a moderator.
As said before exclusive items no one has a problem with, but it becomes a problem, especially in a MMO that is designed around being flexible with creating your character the way you see them and then enjoying that character. Costume pieces and power sets are what make this happen. When a player has been wanting an item that may seem to be the ugliest aura in someone else's eye for years and now that aura is finally available as an exclusive that he/she will never be able to obtain in any other way then to camp TWITter for a code, that's ridiculous.
Sorry if this sounds rude, but your attitude and approach or opinion on the situation is a bad one, and very rude as well, especially the part about ignoring ANY customer for that matter, that's how you make the word of mouth kill your business.
As for an exclusive item being a problem because of one or more customers not gaining access that desire it greatly, that is what gives the exclusive item it's value in the first place. The whole point of an exclusive item is that not everyone that wants it will get it.
As for sounding rude, I am well aware I am using strong choices for words and that some won't like them. I choose them to make my point anyway. I am not interested in peoples feelings, nor in how I am viewed, especially by those whose opinions I don't really respect anyway. I am well aware my attitude is distasteful to some people. I am not interested in making friends or enemies with some random Internet strangers.
Furthermore, for the record, I don't have a Twitter or Facebook account. I have not and will not attempt to gain anything the company chooses to give out through those avenues as I consider both of them to be pretty pointless and in many cases detrimental to the mental health and personal privacy of people that use them. I will not, however, complain about things being given out through them, exclusive or not. If the company chooses to use them for giving away free stuff, then I say, "Thank you Paragon for giving away free stuff." Period.
It's the incessant whining around these types of giveaways and the people doing the whining that cause me to post, because I cannot stand the level of entitlement behind the arguments against the company doing what in my opinion is a nice gesture. -
Quote:I am giving feedback just like everyone else.So... this thread here, the one called "Discussion: Introducing Tweet Code Thursdays," We're not supposed to discuss this here? We're supposed to just suck it up and accept what we're given even if we don't approve of it? The thread wasn't created for the express purpose of allowing players to provide feedback to Paragon regarding this promotion and others like it?
I'd also point out -- also by citing this very thread -- that Paragon has demonstrated recently on at least one occasion that when an "exclusive" draws enough negative reaction, they attempt to make it somewhat less exclusive so as to not anger their customers. It's far from "the end of it."
They're learning.
Which I'll admit is usually an ominous thing to hear, but that's almost always with regard to robots and/or superintelligent apes. With game-development studios, self-awareness is probably a good thing.
Somewhat less exclusive and exclusive are both still exclusive.
I am of the opinion that those who want to be unhappy about Paragon giving away things for free should not be listened to, even if Paragon chooses to make them think they have been.
If you actually think they are learning anything they did not already know, you are deluding yourself. -
Quote:Nope. Pancake-holes that lord any objects over other humans should be shunned. But that even smaller percentage, the ones who want to lord their exclusives over everyone else forever, and would be upset if that exclusivity were ever taken away even if it meant more money in Paragon's development budget... those people should absolutely be listened to, right?
The developers decide what gets created. That's it. No more, no less.
If they make something exclusive, then that's the end of it.
Everyone excepts reality or not. It's ones own choice to accept reality or let it bother them, barring actual damaged brain chemistry. IMO, people that refuse to accept reality simply should not be allowed to influence others.
As for numbers, the number of players that don't like the exclusives are obviously small enough that Paragon continues to ignore them by giving out exclusive items, so the percentage is small enough not to matter. I'd call that a tiny percentage. -
Quote:No.No, promotions that use permanently exclusive items annoy the people paying their salaries. That is the bottom line. You don't deliberately annoy your loyal customers to the point where they cease to be customers.
Exclusive promotions annoy a very small percentage of the customer base.
That small percentage chooses to be annoyed, goes far out of the range of logical, rational and reasonable to be annoyed and will always be annoyed at something, no matter what, because being annoyed gives them pleasure.
That small percentage should be ignored. Period. -
Why should Paragon care about a few change averse, entitled individuals who think that if they cannot get every little thing then there is a problem?
The level of entitlement and nerd rage of gamer forum goers never ceases to amaze.
I'ts hard to believe that they can give something away and still get all this static.
Grow up people. -
Quote:I believe you are telling the truth.Do you believe that I am not telling the truth (either willfully or not) when I say that I don't care about what other people do and that some real money items affect how I feel about the game independent of other players' actions?
I think that the sale of real money items having such an effect on anyone may be a warning sign that they are 'too close' to the game. I really mean that.
I bring it up because I had a friend lose everything, I mean everything, over an MMO, so I am very cautious about letting them 'get to me' on too deeply an emotional level.
Personally, I see the real money market as a way for Paragon to continue supporting the game and nothing more.
Since Freedom started, I have averaged about $40 extra a month to Paragon. I spend it on all kinds of things. I love giving them money because the game gives me and my friends a great deal of pleasure.
At the same time, I still play at Wentworths to get things, I still covet the purple drops I get, etc. The real money market has not replaced anything in the game, just given it another aspect, IMO.
My in-game accomplishments mean just as much as they did before to me, even if I am using an enhancement I bought with cash or one I bought with influence, mainly, I think, because my goal in game is to have fun. Nothing more. I do not play the game for a sense of accomplishment. -
Quote:I have no need to refute your opinion.Semantics doesn't enter into it.
I voiced an opinion and backed it up with a sound argument which hasn't been refuted by you.
You on the other hand have said nothing more than you want what you want because you want it, and implied anyone that disagrees is being a bully and dismiss anything they say.
But please do continue, your responses are amusing.
I voiced my own opinion.
Your responses sadden me.
Actually, after reading your responses in another thread, they sicken me. Anyone that would allude people should be burned simply because they are lawyers...needs serious help. Please seek some. -
Quote:The new play style would be for it to work in (most) any zone.Wrong. There is no "new playstyle" being suggested or denied. People are free to focus solely on radio/newspaper missions if they like regardless of whether or not the OP's idea get implemented. Changing zones to get level appropriate missions isn't preventing people from leveling from 1-50 doing only Radio/safeguard missions.
New 'backdrop' to missions is the new style.
I know you LOVE to nitpick semantics to death. Go right ahead. This is a fine idea and it does not, in any way, prevent an existing system from working, it only adds a new flavor.
I stand by the sentiment that anyone against this is simply change averse or wants people to play the game their way. -
Quote:Wrong. As opposed to how the people agreeing with the idea are just trying to "make others play their way."
That argument works both ways.
One can continue to play the same as now with this suggestion, while not allowing it forces those who would like to play as things are now, eliminating a new play style.
IMO, this is like saying by allowing same sex to marry you are somehow infringing on the current marriage standard. It's just not true. -
I think it is a fine idea.
IMO, anyone that is against it is simply trying to make others play 'their way' and they can go right ahead and...disagree. Adding this as an option in no way stops them from getting radios where they prefer, IMO.
There are several zones I enjoy hanging out in that because of level, the character I am playing cannot get radio missions. This would be awesome.
If there are stupid players that don't realize that there is more to the game than Atlas, oh well, the developers are under no obligation IMO to fix stupid people. -
Quote:Very true, I have seen this as well!I respectfully disagree. The type of behaviour I'm talking about has nothing to do with the actual content. It's been prevalent for 8 years and has been seen for everything from radio missions to incarnate trials, old fashioned sewer runs, to trick or treating.
The real issue is they think recruiting, selecting the mission, setting the difficulty level is a chore that they avoid at all costs. We've all watched teams dissolve when the leader leaves and the sheep play "Hot Potato" with the star and quit to send LFT spam rather than accept leadership and recruit one more person or continue playing.
I still think a portion of it has to do with the fear of being ostracized for being perceived as a 'bad leader'.
The 'chores' of being a leader are compounded for some, I think, because of the emotional involvement of being a leader.
This, IMO, has a lot to do with the social aspect of MMOs and life in general.
For MMOs, except for things like iTrails and TFs, I have always played with a group of RL friends. When some stop playing, I recruit more.Getting RL people to play in the first place is more challenging than getting a PUG going...
This leads to my POV being very different on PUGs, I think. I will PUG for a lot of things, but my day-to-day, bread-and butter playing is either solo or with RL friends in voice chat.
However if I want to run a TF or something on a character, for a badge or whatever, I will shout out in a global channel and away we go.
The more cynical part of me also has to say, I think some of the people wanting others to lead don't even want to 'play' the game. I have a friend that subscribed for a while like that. He was only ever around to talk in voice chat. He now has several 50's, all from just following us and hitting a few powers now and then. For some, MMO is just a graphical chat room. IMO, those are the most emotionally frightened of the star, coupled with a lack of knowing much about the game in general. -
Thanks for sharing that build The_Laughing_Man!
I'll see if I can find any tweaks to help me. I thought about Scorpion Shield, but I really want(ed) Repulsion Bomb. Still considering just getting the shield though and not anything else, the spiders do not fit the concept.
As for the temp powers, I know they can rock, I just eat inspirations a lot since they fall like candy. I never think to plan ahead enough to have the powers there...

This is what I finally went with, all built and working well on live.
Still trying to find the right Alpha.

Quote:Is it any wonder with the vehement bile about the latest trial in some other threads (and apparently on some server global channels)? I am sure they are typically afraid of having 20 people mad at them for leading a failed trial. It always amused and annoyed me in equal parts when just after BAF/Lambda came in, I'd see 20 or so people stood around DJ Zero in PD spamming /b with 'Any trials forming?' 'ne trails' (don't get me started on gibberish spelling) and so forth.
If I was actually looking for a trial, I'd usually mutter something in /b then start forming a league, but it does remind that Forbin has it right in that you can never underestimate just how allergic a lot of people are to any sort of responsibility for a team.
MMO gamers are some the most fickle, hyperbole filled gamers I have seen in my 30+ years of gaming.
There are people that play this game with an emotional and intellectual makeup that forces them to blame everything about a team, good or bad, on the leader, or at least everyone else besides themselves...just like real life.
Too many of the MMO players I see treat the pixels on the creen like real life and therefore bring all the same emotion baggage with them on a team.
Personally, I and the people I play the game with laugh all the time at team wipes and failed attempts at things. Personally, I cannot understand why anyone would get worked up emotionally on a constant basis about pixels. I understand having a bad day or something making the game frustrating when anything would.
I have seen in more than one global channel a player decried as a bad leader simply because a Trial failed. Fear drives people and many fear the idea of being ostracized.
Just a morning rant brought to you by Caribou Coffee, brewed to perfection by my lovely wife. -

Hi all.
Going for fun plus surviving.
So far (at 41) I can sustain the energy output by switching to single target for a bit and the energy returns for the aoe attacks. Not running Tough.
Mainly curious as to if there is something glaring I am missing that would give me more recharge w/o losing the defense too much.
Thoughts?

I play to have fun laughing and killing pixels with my friends.
Don't care about levels etc. but I do like to make unique characters. Provided I could do that, like inventions were all free to just use or something and we logged in as whatever level, I would keep on playing I think. -
Quote:So, you are are admitting you are nothing more than a troll who is skirting the forum rules.Sure, that would be an option. It wouldn't be nearly as amusing to me though. I like it when people get this worked up over things that I say and do.
I never insulted anyone in this thread. I might have disagreed with some people's ideas, but if anyone has been blatantly insulted here, it's been me. I've created my own little angry mob again, but I didn't break any rules.
It's also fun to post some blatant over-the-top braggy comments and see how worked up and spiteful people get about it.
Just clarifying.
