When I joined CoH back in December of 2006, I logged into this, my first MMO with Major Deej, and was overwhelmed at the breadth, interaction and dynamics that I saw before me. I had never seen anything like this before. Coupled with the heroic music, the sight of the Atlas Statue and heroes flying around in the air, I knew I was instantly hooked, even though I felt like a newborn in the wilds.
I was kindly greeted here on Guardian server by 2 or 3 veteran heroes throughout the day in Atlas Park. In that time:- They didn't power spam me to join their SGs.
- They didn't try to antagonize me or call me 'newbie' or 'noob'.
- They didn't offer to PL me.
- Instead, they offered to team with me, show me around Atlas and the game, as well as offer up 100K of Inf to help my character get started.
- I didn't power spam anyone to join my SG.
- I didn't try to antagonize new players or call them 'newbie' or 'noob'.
- I didn't offer to PL them (or AE farm, as the equivical these days).
- Instead, I offered four new players over Sunday to team with me, showed them around Atlas and chatted with them, helping answer questions about the game and the intricacies of their powers and their characters (also told them about Guardian global chat), and offered up 1 million Inf to each of them to help their character get started (inflation, ya know).
It was 5 hours well spent. Great conversations, great teaming, and some excited new players.
All it took was a little good karma.
It's what makes this game and the Guardian server what it is.
Thanks to EE and its great event, it helped reminded me what it is to give back to this Guardian community, even in the small ways, thus, this post and my five hours on Sunday.
Here's to good karma and positive motivation. Thanks again, EE. -
What a fantastic event, EE! One of the most memorable events I've seen in my four years with Guardian server!
Aside from fantastic trivia, a historical parade of heroes through Atlas Park, scavengers hunts, PvP, and much more, I was lucky, as Aguila de Mexico, to get one of the Grand Prizes for the incredibly well done CC!
After seeing so many of the outstanding costumes in both male and female categories, I didn't think I'd have a chance in my category. Making finalist was phenomenal; winning the grand prize . . . well . . .
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
I'd like to thank EE for this incredible, well planned and momentous event. Every member in their SG that participated made the experience a truly iconic event.
Thought I'd add to the image gallery as well...
The EE pre-event trivia session!
The Parade of Heroes!
Gathering of Heroes in Atlas on Guardian!
Prolific Image of Atlas Heroes!
The 20 CC Finalists!
Lady Willow and Aguila de Mexico: CC Queen & King!
I don't normally attend CCs, but when I do, they are Earthclan Elite's. Stay thristy, my friends.
Gracias, Earthclan Elite for a fantastic event! Vaya con Dios! -

I am happy they extended the Winter Event, however, a whole month? I'd have liked an additional 2 weeks, but the whole month of January?
During the holiday period, many folks are out and about, family, shopping, baking, party hosting, party attending, et al. As such, the 2 weeks during the holiday period isn't viable to folks with any form of family or social life.
Extending it by two weeks seemed the reasonable approach, allowing a full month-long run, that way those inundated with the hustle and bustle of the holidays get a chance to catch up with their mains and alts to get candy canes, badges and do some great teaming (and allows me to do some more SG/VG winter activities!).
Regardless, I am glad it was extended...just not too enthused about a total of 6 weeks... a total of 4 would have sufficed. -
I don't even know what to say.
This has been a shocker that literally floored me when I read this last night.
I know all too well about the 'opportunity knocking' issue; by all means, if there is a better deal out there, make the move.
That said, I cannot begin to tell you how much you've meant to me (and the community) in this game. Aside from being the voice of CoH on these forums, and being there for nearly every major/sever event of late, your posts and interaction have made this game what it is today. From consistantly handing out gold titles at events running after/past working hours, to interacting and chatting with us via your character all the while, you've made a profound impact here.
Your focus on maintaining a well moderated forum, while still reaching out to the players on a daily basis, has been exceptional, in my opinion.
Meeting you at the Boston Meet & Greet last year was fantastic. I enjoyed our conversations, and most notably, your sincere desire to be as professional as possible while still being amicable and personable. It's so easy during those events to get overwhelmed by the masses and schedules. My wife and I will always remember your kindness and sincerity.
I have nothing but praise and gratitude to you for all you've done here. I can only hope that, going forward, I (and the community) will get a chance to team with you once again on the servers with one of your incognito characters.
Fair winds and following seas, Eric. May the wind always be at your back.
You will be SORELY missed.

Quote:Ah. Now I understand some of this.okay...i guess no one like's it
only reason i'd like offline is couse i love the game but i can't afford it couse im only 13 lol i guess ill just wait,i hope game's still up in 2 year's when i can get a job
Again, don't take this the wrong way. Suggestions are just that; suggestions. Not everyone is going to agree with you on them, and, as such, these forumites here have a strong opinion in their responses.
F2P is what I consider a 'flavor of the year', just like, IMHO, 3D TV is. It's a cool idea, may have merits in some respects, but in all reality, will cost the game its current playerbase due to such a severe change in how the game is played. Another superhero MMO game is trying this method, with highly mixed results. Business-wise, it is a huge risk.
My two sons that still play this game after 4 years and are now in college, were in the same situation you are in. They didn't have jobs, and needed to figure out how they were going to pay the $15/month (or other desired expenses). You can ask your parents for helping with the monthly fee costs, booster packs, etc, by asking for these things as birthday presents, Christmas presents (6 or 12 month subscription is a nice present), rewards for doing chores around the house, cleaning out the garage, mowing/snow shoveling the neighbors yard, etc.
There's options out there for you, and since you like this game, I'm sure it'd be worth the extra effort. As I tell my sons and students, 'there's ALWAYS a solution'.
Good luck with it! -
Quote:I know I shouldn't be responding to this because so much of this post has me confuzzled as to what/why/eh?, but...How about this?
~offline play,But you still got to buy the game but it's free to play!
~what you can't do : PvP,Party Quest's,Map's smaller,etc
also offering Costume Pack's where you use real money for costume's in game for example,Thug pack 1.99$ , and you can get THUG clothes for your Heroe/Villianyou can price it what ever but like my idea's? also adding Comic book's to Purchase
Also Maybe adding a Cashshop would be nice for example add the stuff from "store" when Choosing your heroe/Villian add new skill's or something to spice the game up!
for example
5$=500 HP/VP(heroe point's/Villian point's)
10$=1,000^
20$=2,000^
30$=3,000^
40$=4,500"you get Bonus VP/HP for purchasing Expensive Points"
50$=5,500
Hope you enjoy my idea's more coming vary soon!
to the OP: I'm sure you are trying to think and toss around ideas that might seem viable, but I'm afraid with this set of suggestions, there's several issues that are not viable with how the game plays, nor reasonable as to gaming value.
I was trying to write some responses, options and reasoning why most of these won't work, and after several deleted paragraphs, I realized the best answers to this would be that a) NO to most all of these, b) costumes for cost? We have booster/item packs already, coupled with free costumes that are available every issue or so; removing any free forthcoming costumes would be business suicide for retention of many veteran players.
You might also want to expalin what you mean by "Hero/Villain Points"...did you mean Hero/Villain Alignment Merits? If that is the case, emphatically, NO; those are earned, not bought.
You might want to rethink/rewrite in more comprehensive detail on what you want here, since I'm sure many of us are confused as to what and why these suggestions need to be done... -

As with MANY of the suggestions players have made to make the SGs/bases better, I agree with this one as well.
It seems the SGs have become the despised red-headed step child of the game of late, cast to the side, with an occasional scrap of meat thrown at them (the 100K prestige for a new Praetorian SG member, comes to mind) to keep them satiated.
THIS would be a positive step in getting SGs back in the limelight and start promoting more SG/VG team play. I've liked seeing all the TFs, Mothership raids, LGTFs, Hami Raids, etc done more in the last week than I've seen in two months; would love to see that trend continue. -
Yay! Got one!
Lucky on this one!
Just happened to check the forums seconds after Avatea posted! -
I'm going to have to chime in with most everyone else here; seems too short of an event this year.
I'm sure the Devs and crew meant well, and went off of a few suggestions from the last couple years to chop it down to 2 weeks. Those who liked the 3+ weeks of Winter Event time, however, weren't the vocal majority because they were enjoying playing instead of posting and complaining.
The tables are now turned.
As was mentioned earlier, however, we have a lot of new players from Going Rogue, and a good chance that the new "Complete Collection" game box will be a present under some folk's Christmas Tree this year, with them only able to enjoy the Winter Event for less than 8 days.
My suggestion: I'd recommend having the Winter Event active for at least 3 weeks.
Family obligations, travel, shopping, snow shoveling, school, work, friends, etc, will take up so much time this holiday period; a few extra days for this event wouldn't hurt.
Following this event's trend though, I'm sure an excuse will require the Devs and crew to 'extend' the Winter Event' by an extra week though. *crosses fingers* -
Welcome back! Glad to hear you're recovering well!
-
Excellent! My winter vacation starts that day (and ends the same day as the Winter Event ends)! Vacation=Winter Event!

Failed. I step away from the computer for ONE restroom break...

Brilliant Idea!
It's befitting that someone who actually had to use the Info Terminals to advance themselves in the Tutorial, for some strange reason, might think to look for one for the same purpose in the regular zones!
Logical thinking, Mr Grey!
I think they need to standardize the actual Info Terminal look as well so there is no confusion, between the ones in the tutorial vs zone versions, if this is done.
Maybe the devs can follow this train of thought...and even apply them in Praetoria! -
Happy Birthday, Noire! Enjoy these freshly backed cookies...ULLI!!
Bring those back!
Errr...ah...here's some cookie crumbs....ULLI!!
Ah well, regardless, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! -
Ah! That answers that then.
Was hoping for them to be available now or in a patch prior to Christmas, but...ah well.
At least they are on the way, and it's not just me and some borked setting on my computer.
Thanks, ZM! -
Is it just me, or are the new player-made (from the recent contest) zone transition screens (the ones you see when you're transitioning into a different zone; Atlas, Cap, etc.) not showing? I thought I saw these already in play being used during Issue 19 beta testing.
Since Issue 19 went live, I've seen only one new screen applied, which was for The Sewer Network, but haven't seen any of the older transition screens changed, other than the Faultline screen which is now missing the text for "Faultline" while still showing the old screen.
I've used Leo's "Splasher" program up until this, and have since unloaded it, then brought CoH back up, and saw no difference, so not thinking that is the problem, but at this point, I couldn't tell for sure.
So, are fellow players seeing the new transition screens for all the zones since Issue 19 went live, or is there a problem with them and they're going to be added in a later patch/Issue 20, or is it just me? -
