How about this?

~offline play,But you still got to buy the game but it's free to play!
~what you can't do : PvP,Party Quest's,Map's smaller,etc
also offering Costume Pack's where you use real money for costume's in game for example,Thug pack 1.99$ , and you can get THUG clothes for your Heroe/Villian you can price it what ever but like my idea's? also adding Comic book's to Purchase
Also Maybe adding a Cashshop would be nice for example add the stuff from "store" when Choosing your heroe/Villian add new skill's or something to spice the game up!

for example

5$=500 HP/VP(heroe point's/Villian point's)
10$=1,000^
20$=2,000^
30$=3,000^
40$=4,500"you get Bonus VP/HP for purchasing Expensive Points"
50$=5,500
Hope you enjoy my idea's more coming vary soon!

OKAY everyone thinks this sucks so :*(

Not only No, but HELL NO!

First off sub based games only go F2P as a last ditch attempt to stop the game from going under.

Secondly F2P games end up being more expensive for players to play because they spend more money on microtransactions in the game than they did on their subscription fee.

Yeah, it's hard to discuss this particular topic because forum rules require that we talk in generalities. The Mods will come down on any mention of specific games.

Yes but perhaps it would be best if the Mods DID come down on this thread. Crush it, burn it, bury it, then ship the piece of earth its buried in into the sun. Then burn the sun in the unquenchable fires of hell. That should do it.

I'm willing to cut a new player some slack. We have no idea if he knew people have strong opinions on this.

So let's give him the benefit of doubt and not discourage him from posting. His next idea may be awesome.

Ah, then I apologize!

I can definitely sympathize with having to make difficult decisions regarding money. Most of the suggestions you made relate to money, but they'll have a pretty blanket negative effect on the game. It might make it easier for everyone to play if it was free, but the game would probably go down the toilet in terms of the quality of experience. And then it wouldn't be fun for anyone. Also, playing the game in an offline mode would require some pretty drastic changes to the game itself. Not only would it fundamentally change how the game worked, it would introduce completely new and unique forms of cheating, since characters would now be hosted locally.

As for more costume items, I am all over that and fully support that suggestion.

I know I shouldn't be responding to this because so much of this post has me confuzzled as to what/why/eh?, but...

to the OP: I'm sure you are trying to think and toss around ideas that might seem viable, but I'm afraid with this set of suggestions, there's several issues that are not viable with how the game plays, nor reasonable as to gaming value.

I was trying to write some responses, options and reasoning why most of these won't work, and after several deleted paragraphs, I realized the best answers to this would be that a) NO to most all of these, b) costumes for cost? We have booster/item packs already, coupled with free costumes that are available every issue or so; removing any free forthcoming costumes would be business suicide for retention of many veteran players.

You might also want to expalin what you mean by "Hero/Villain Points"...did you mean Hero/Villain Alignment Merits? If that is the case, emphatically, NO; those are earned, not bought.

You might want to rethink/rewrite in more comprehensive detail on what you want here, since I'm sure many of us are confused as to what and why these suggestions need to be done...

In that case I apologize as well. As strongly as I am against the ideas, I'm not going to shoot the messenger (If that analogy works.) Welcome to the forums by the way!

Ah. Now I understand some of this.

Again, don't take this the wrong way. Suggestions are just that; suggestions. Not everyone is going to agree with you on them, and, as such, these forumites here have a strong opinion in their responses.

F2P is what I consider a 'flavor of the year', just like, IMHO, 3D TV is. It's a cool idea, may have merits in some respects, but in all reality, will cost the game its current playerbase due to such a severe change in how the game is played. Another superhero MMO game is trying this method, with highly mixed results. Business-wise, it is a huge risk.

My two sons that still play this game after 4 years and are now in college, were in the same situation you are in. They didn't have jobs, and needed to figure out how they were going to pay the $15/month (or other desired expenses). You can ask your parents for helping with the monthly fee costs, booster packs, etc, by asking for these things as birthday presents, Christmas presents (6 or 12 month subscription is a nice present), rewards for doing chores around the house, cleaning out the garage, mowing/snow shoveling the neighbors yard, etc.

There's options out there for you, and since you like this game, I'm sure it'd be worth the extra effort. As I tell my sons and students, 'there's ALWAYS a solution'.

Good luck with it!

Some good advice there and I hope the OP is able to come up with a way to continue playing.

Also at 13 you can easily earn enough money to pay for the gameplay. Mow a lawn in spring and summer, in winter shovel a walkway. It doesn't take a whole lot of work to earn $15 from somebody in your neighborhood if you actually go out and look for little jobs that need doing.

Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

Before we tell the Op how easy it is to earn money,we need to remember that we don't know his RL situation. I've personally seen parents that wouldn't let their kids get any kind of job till they were much older and I've also seen kids the same age as the OP whose parents set them up with Credit Cards.

Now in the town where I used to live we had a Hobby shop where the owner new that some of the kids had parents that either couldn't afford an allowance or wouldn't let their kids get part time jobs, and without their parents knowing he gave the kids things to do in the store for credit they could use to buy games or computer time. Stocking shelves, taking out the trash, sweeping. Even giving them credit for getting good grades on their report cards.

On the one hand, I actually would like to see the game able to be played offline. Sooner or later it will go under, and when that happens, I don't want to lose access to the game along with the continued development. The way I play, I may as well be offline anyway.

On the other hand, I know this isn't as simple as flipping a switch. Much of the game's operation is not, in fact, in the game client. Our characters are stored on the server, all combat mechanics go through the server, there's a whole complex mechanic of setting the server up, maintaining it, controlling it and so forth.

The only way I can see City of Heroes being playable offline is if Paragon Studios release a standalone server app to run locally for the game to connect to and run off that, which I imagine would put quite a bit more stress on the person's computer. Remember that server lag on the hill in the ITF? That's powers calculations, and that's something YOUR machine will have to do this time around.

Still, when it eventually comes time to close up shop, I do hope that Paragon Studios will release such a standalone server for people to run their games over. I'd buy that for the price of a AAA title, I know that much.
