Indeed, well said!
I never envy the Dev's on launch weeks. This one seems to be going particularly rough due to the extreme nature of the changes. Can't imagine the stress they've been under lately.
*Cheers!! It'll all be worth it though. -
*Non-issue, skip down a post for the solution.
Okay, I'll be the first one to open this can...
Let me start off by saying that I'm putting this in the suggestions section because that's what it is, a suggestion. Not a whine, not a rant, etcetera
etceteree.
I would like to have a ViP perk added at some point that allows ViP's to remove the Paragon Store and Paragon Rewards buttons from my field of view.
I'm 100% behind forcing it in the face of Free and Premium players, no problem there.
ViP's however are already paying monthly. We are guranteed to know about the store. There is no need to have the 2 large buttons constantly in our field of view. It's annoying.
I can get over it but I'd rather not have to.
Everything else with the UI is adjustable, please allow ViP's (only) to either;
A - Have an option to hide said icons
B - Be able to relocate the icons to somewhere else.
Please and thank you! -
Are you worried about the ethics of such a transaction?
If so then don't, inherrent in the risk of 'playing' the market... and parking funds on items like that is 'playing'.. is the risk of absolute loss. Besides, most ebil's wouldnt even notice a few missing million.
I say try and see! -
"Item 151 on today's glitch list...we have all the problems of a major theme park AND a major zoo and the computers aren't even on their feet yet."

MARTy and Logger the forum logout bugger have joined forces.
It happend when they attempted to connect the live servers, where MARTy roams, with the forums which as we all know is Logger' turf in the failed attempt at bringing the store online.
The initial battle for supremacy was short lived yet devasting to the servers, resulting in many new problems and delaying bringing them back online.
In the interim however, a truce was reached between the entities. Realizing the power they both now commanded a plot was hatched.
The 1st casulaties in this sinister plot had to be our Avatars, as that is the basis of our individual power in this realm. With our Avatars removed, the combined might of MARTogger is now in complete control. -
Quote:If they considered CEBR to be an exploit, this thread would've been deleted and TopDoc sent a warning way back on August 2nd.Assuming Doc didnt get permabanned already, I guess we might hear about it tomorrow
As the thread hasn't been deleted and we have confirmation that the Dev's are aware of this thread it seems pretty obvious it's not an issue to them.
MARTy may trigger at the upper tiers of CEBR, but I doubt they are specifically targetting AE with this system. -

PM me the names you want and the server, I'll save em for you and free them up upon request.
please limit to 3 and not on Virtue or Infinity as those 2 are full. -
I have no problem with this, as long as it doesn't take time away from something more substantial.
The way I do it though, when I absolutely have to make sure the name stays with me...
I wait til around 4am. I have my new costume pre-made and saved. Takes less than 30 seconds.
I plan on doing this sometime soon. I've had a controller name IllusionForce (ill/forcefield) since issue 5. The changes to Blind way back then soured me entirely on the toon and I never returned. I liked the concept though and couldn't believe I scored the name on Infinity, so I've kept him sitting at level 22 unplayed all these years.
Tonight, or sometime in the near future he will be rerolled as Ill/Time! -
It's like Christmas morning today! All day!
The 0 points thing... that's like sneaking downstairs at 2am and wondering were all the presents are. It's not Christmas just yet. Almost. Which is still better than Soon™. -

I'm torn between wanting to avoid the new CoT like the plague Vs destroying every single monstrosity I see no matter the level, to spare us the overload of colors and patterns.
-
My point is, you will. I expect everyone will be setting it off 'accidentally' for a few weeks while the kinks get ironed out, while they watch the figures and adjust accordingly. Testing it before it's in full-time run mode only means you'll have to go back and do all that testing again down the road.
Still, if you're having fun doing it, more power to you! -
Joe,
Honest question. Why do you feel the need to "Push the limits and see where the cut offs tend to kick in." as soon as possible?
Everything we've been told makes this out to be an anti-exploit tool, not a farm killing tool. So actively trying to engage MARTy seems counter productive. Just play the game and if MARTy triggers bug it. Regardless of what you're doing, bug it.
If ITF runs or FireFarms or even CEBR trigger MARTy... bug it.
As this is not what it's supposed to do, according to the Dev's. If you have a super secret 'I WIN' button and use it to kill everything in the Shard and MARTy triggers, time to hide.
I fully expect MARTy to be going haywire left and right for the 1st few months active. Eventually though they will get the kinks worked out and then we can start testing the limits to see where we stand. -
Exactly. When I 1st heard about Freedom I instantly sent a text to my rl friend that used to play with me. He quit playing when he became a father since $ was tight.
We got all excited at the prospect of playing again. He was looking forward to spending a bit here and there in the store to buy some extras and powersets etc. When I found out about the restrictions on Premiums I sent him a text letting him know he might not have access to chat among other things.
Even though he played for over 2 years and would probably be at a high enough tier to not worry about it. His response was he could've started a free trial at any time and to h*** with it. Wasn't worth his time. He decided to stay with his current F2P MMO that doesn't charge for the game, only for the bling.
Sadly, the more and more people I contacted. Old friends from here and other games. All said no thanks once they found out they'd be better off not bothering, rather than have to spend $$ they'd intended to use on costume fluff. They'd have to spend months buying back the core parts of the game. Big turn off for them.
This isn't a whine.
This isn't a 'I want it all free NAO' post (I'm going to be a ViP til they shut em down)
This is a problem of perception.
If returning/new players feel so isolated. If they feel overly punished for not paying a sub. They aren't likely to pump money into the store... For anything.
I understand that the focus is on ViP's but the way to do that is to make great content that is only avail to us. Not by locking away the core functions of the game.
Alas, ship has sailed. Time to cross fingers.
One last thing. The whole "If you stopped paying before Freedom you couldn't even play" excuse has to stop now. It's irrelevant past Freedom's launch. -
We will never be given a list of facts concerning MARTy. Be thankful they even told us about the system. They won't reveal anymore than they already have because it would only serve to give those looking for loopholes more tools.
That's why Z has to be careful with what he says. Also why the specifics of how MARTy works will be kept secret. Same thing goes for the 'participation metric' with itrials. -
Nyx,
You realize of course that you can just switch over to another build and put SO's into it in the interim right? Then when you resub you can easily switch back to the Uber build.
Naturally, I understand why you wouldn't want to, just making sure you know you can. -
For some reason, whenever Z said 'Aggressive' I always replaced it with CEBR.
I figured this was a primary target for MARTy so I'm kinda shocked it appears to not activate for TopDoc, though he could be right about higher levels hitting the threshold.
That said, I find this to be highly engaging and challenging. Not the typical 50+ Proc'd out snorefest that constitutes most farming, be it tickets or XP.
I 1st used this arc to get a Fire/Fire Blaster to 22 in about 2 hours. Then I went ahead and rolled a true CEBR just to see the difference. The Brute made it to 22 in something like 30 minutes.
22 used to be when the real fun would start for me. As I hated not having Stamina and SO's. Though once I started playing those 2 toons I found I wasn't connected enough to them, I hadn't played enough to have a chain or to know what needed what and when. I'd missed things like Hasten that I would've taken if I'd been struggling with recharge for an entire level etc, etc.
Then I realized I don't have to push to 20 for Stamina anymore! So I've started using this arc to get to level 12 for DO's with a quickness. This lets me jump right into enjoying the toon without the months of boring play to get there.
Yes, months. I'm a very casual player, usually only playing for 3 or 4 hours a week.
This combined with my severe altitis means I only have 3 50's and most of my toons are around 25-33. I don't play endgame so I have no desire to rush to 50, just to the point that the toon becomes fun to play.
I'm really shocked that MARTy won't prevent me from reaching level 12 in a single play session!! Shocked and pleased all at once. -
I've often wanted to do that with a crafted LOTG, just to see what the bottom bid was.
-
Ah, lovely spam for breakfast.
As an aside, that font choice gives me a headache. -
Quote:Exactly. The biggest sticking point for me is chat. I understand not letting them have free-reign, but the no tells part really feels like sticking it to them just because they can. It's a little naive to think people who are basically playing a trial will quite happily pay out anything in good faith that it is worthwhile. The game needs to convince people to part with their cash, not with restrictions that force them to , but with the incentive of being a good game. It's only $5 or whatever isn't the greatest argument in the world when there are numerous games out there that allow the things that CoH restrict with no cash outlay.
Just give them the ability to respond to tells, it'd make teaming so much easier for ViP's as well as Prem's and Free's. I think this would go a long way towards letting us integrate the new players and keep them from feeling so isolated.
But....
Time's up -
Which is why it shocked me to see the reactions to Fetus' post. Instead of enlightening him about how utterly cheap and easy it would be we just laughed and sent him on his way.
The point was, perception is a dangerous thing. It does not matter how wrong or misinformed those coming in are. It does not matter if they should've 'done more research' beforehand. All that matters is can we educate them about our model and keep them around?
With attitudes like I'm seeing... I doubt it, but I remain hopeful. -
Quote:Perhaps I should have bolded and underlined this part for you,The only problem is he doesn't have any legitimate concerns.
"However wrong Fetus was is irrelevant."
Could've saved you the trouble of listing off the reasons he is wrong and instead let you actually digest the gist of the post...
That he didn't have legitimate concerns, but that his concerns bring to light a possible one.
If you wanna look at my realistic view of the game not lasting more than 2 years if this isn't a success as doomsaying then go right ahead. Come tomorrow we will be losing a significant # of Subscriptions, as they drop to Premium. If the amount being spent in the store doesn't surpass the amount lost...
Call it DOOoooom if it makes you feel better, whatever. Logic tells me if we're (ViP's) the only ones using the store, and then only when new shinies are put up, then this game will no longer be profitable from NCSoft's far away view point. We all know what that would mean and it isn't something we want.
If DDO and LOTR et al make free players purchase standard features such as chat access then my arguement is void, this being the only game I play I wouldn't know. All I know is I don't want the throngs of new/returning players to be so turned off at first sight that they don't even bother. We want them hooked and pumping money into the store after all.
