  1. Were they being farmed or something? >.<
  2. I solo a lot due to distractions and in general just wanting to take my time.

I had a rash of "can I join" requests, all in the same week, shortly after Issue 20. Upon my reply that I was soloing, most would either not send anything back or I'd get an "K, have fun" reply.

    This one guy...

He sent the tell asking if he could join my team, with an invite appearing as soon as I got the tell. I declined the invite and told them I wasn't on a team.
They sent another invite and replied with "U could be with me."

I declined the invite and explained that I appreciated the offer but wasn't really doing much, had laundry going etc.

10 minutes later I get another invite popup and tell from them. I'm guessing they either didn't realize they'd already talked to me (going down the list) or were trolling.

I replied with "Still soloing "
They send yet another invite and at this piont I just accept it. I'm a bit more frustrated than I should be so I don't say anything in Team. I was in the process of upgrading enhancements so I just kept doing what I was doing. A few minutes later he appears in the shop. I compliment him on his concept and notice that he has the 3yr vet badge. I again suggest that he look for a real team as I wasn't interested in inviting anyone and give him a brb so I could check on laundry.

I got distacted by a phone call and didn't return to the game for 10 minutes or so.
    When I did...
He'd invited a full team, then proceeded to set a mission and run like normal. This is when things got trollish.

After seeing the full team window my eyes widened a bit and then I hear the tell chime. It's one of the team members chiding me for holding them up.

I scroll up and read the chatlines from the team. One of the team members asks me if I'm coming. Without reply obviously. Then the leader, the guy that begged to join me, says lets just go. I keep reading.
After a few minutes of what I assume is mission sweeping on their part another member inquires about my status. At this point you'd expect the leader to clue his new team in and kick me. Instead he goes on a tirade about griefers like me ruining the game for everyone. That I spammed the stuffing out of him for an invite and then pull a stunt like this. I've heard the tell chime 2 more times while reading...
Looking over the tells, one is from a random team member calling me something I can't print here. The other is from the leader.

It simply reads... "So, ready to team yet?"

    >.<

Oy! Every since then, I send a single reply that I'm soloing and then ignore every subsequent request. Some people get their jollies anyway they can.

    Human potential

Basic advancment of the species, see also Evolution.

I once had a philosophical debate with a friend over what would constitute 'stupid' in the star trek universe. As everyone we see on the shows would seem to possess an almost superhuman level of knowledge. Cadets know advanced trig like we know basic addition.

Human knowledge is stackable. The more we learn, the more we pass on to our offspring. This knowledge is held in the Subconcious mind, thus making it easier for succesive generations to learn and memorize.

Our minds now operate at an accelerated rate compared to those that lived in the 1800's. By proxy of the quicker pace of modern living, the mass media, the techno lust et al.

This accelerated thinking also in-turn makes us respond quicker and adapt faster.

Physical attributes continue to progress at this rate as well. While true that humans have always been capable of running at 40+mph. The fact that it hasn't been achieved yet makes it that much more difficult to. Once the barrier is breached however... It'll start getting passed on, both genetically and mentally, just the simple act of hearing about someone doing something changes everything.

It goes from being something impossible, and therefor pointless to strive for, to something acheivable and eventually becomes the 'Norm'.

In the future, we will be faster and more agile, with more intelligence at the lowest level than we currently have at the highest. This is natural progression.

Honestly, if you build a Blaster for recharge and tons of procs, acc, recov, and make a pure glass cannon who's only role is to do massive damage and sustain his own endurance, you will definitely contribute in a team scenario. You fulfill a roll better than the Scrapper does, DPS. Now when you people WANT to make a self sufficient Blaster and aim for Scrapper defenses, that's when you make comparisons like "My ******* Blaster that wants to be a Scrapper is not as good as a Scrapper in X way or Y way... buffs plz."

A game being balanced doesn't mean that every AT should be able to be turned into every other AT with exact equal efficiency, it never meant that. If anything, Blasters should embrace the fact that their builds can be varied so much and still be effective as silly "tankmages" or as pure glass cannons who rely on their team for survival. The poor Scrappers are the ones with no real build options or diversity, forced to min/max every defensive set virtually the same way because they HAVE NO CHOICE but to melee, and therefore require the defense oriented builds that are merely one of many options to a Blaster. That and Scrappers often share virtually identical builds with Brutes and Tanks, whereas Blasters only share builds with themselves.

Also if I was going to build what people are calling a "Tankmage" I'm pretty sure I'd just use a Defender (or Corruptor but Defender's get much better defensive stats from toggles) with Dark Miasma and whatever blast set I wanted, probly fire. Dark Miasma is ludicrously overpowered defensively, easy to herd mobs from around a corner with proper execution of Darkest Night, into a waiting Tar Patch that clumps them perfectly. Then you jump out and unleash a Fearsome Stare, and at that point you have already won, now it's just time to kill them all. Use whatever Blast set you like on your Blaster, solo for that 30% dmg buff, and if you don't do enough damage that's just cus you haven't T4'd your Interface and Judgement and Lore yet, which bring even a braindead monkey's damage up to Rikti Pylon soloing levels. That sounds like a Tankmage to me, a character who takes virtually no damage from mobs (tanks) and rips their foes to pieces with the ease a 50cal shooting through tissue paper, from a distance even (mage).

I haven't really seen that many players calling for what you suggest. What we are trying to point out is the disparity now present between AT's.

The truth is, with IO's, melee AT's now have the ability to buff their damage to a much greater capacity than blasters can buff their defenses.

This is the problem, IO's and now I-powers give you the ability to turn your Scrapper into a High Damage/High Defense AT.

On the other hand, IO's and I-powers give Blasters the ability to...
pump up the recharge which hits a cap and, in the end, doesn't do enough to cover the gap.

I'm not asking for Defense for Blasters, I don't know of anyone that has.
What I'm asking for is the ability to augment my damage so I can stay above the level of Melee units for the entire game.

This is the price they pay for being more sturdy. Blasters get the best damage, at the cost of being squishy.

At the end of the day, IO's and IP's allow scrappers and brutes to become
    High Damage/High Defense AT's
While Blasters can only transform themselves into

    High Damage/Slightly better defense.

The base values haven't changed, so as far as the Dev's are concerned Blasters are still the top dogs damage wise. Sadly, those base numbers no longer hold up with IO's. The ability to pump out sustained damage makes Scrappers and Fury charged Brutes the new Damage kings.

The game evolved. Blasters haven't kept up.
  5. I am a Blaster at heart. Always have been, always will be.

I enjoy doing massive damage, burst damage specifically, while still having to be wary of my surroundings.

For years, I always knew my role on teams. Depending on the Blaster I was playing I was either a hard target assassin or a minion clearing AoE machine. I learned to control my KB around others. I learned how to target through the tank. I learned how to sacrifice myself to save the team with a valiant charge.

Then IO's came around and I slowly began to notice my contribution to the teams being tossed aside. Scrappers approached my level of damage and had extra defense to dish it out non-stop.
    =======

I played Scrappers, my 2nd favorite AT, whenever I needed a break from the concentration of playing squishies.

Sometimes I enjoy being able to stand my ground while being swamped, taking them out little by little. I've been known to get scrapperlock with the best of em.

For years, I always knew my role on teams. Depending on the Scrapper I was playing I was either a Boss killer or Lt. specialist. I could deal out good damage, but only because I could cycle more attacks without my health vanishing. I learned how to protect the team from aggro. I learned how to stop punching the guy in my face, just long enough to run back to the controller getting swarmed and save them. I learned to not even look at my health bar.

Then IO's came around and I slowly started to notice my contribution to teams increasing! I could now approach Blaster levels of damage AND I could buff my considerable defenses even more! I started to see more and more of my melee brothers in arms and less of those squishy types.
    =======

All that was before I-powers. The incarnate stuff just multiplies the issue.

Blasters need a buff to their overall damage.
It's what we're all about, or rather used to be. Being Damage kings. The Dev's used to say that Blasters wouldn't get mez protection or defenses because range is our mitigation, that scrappers get better defenses at the cost of damage ability. This held true then but no longer applies.

I recently rolled up a Mace/Shield scrapper and it disgusted me. He quickly became one of my favorite toons because of the massive amounts of burst damage I could deal right outta the box! I figured it would eventually taper off, so that at higher levels I'd be slightly below Blasters damage wise. What disgusted me was... that never happened. I only got stronger and stronger.

Out of curiosity, I rolled up 2 brand spanking new toons. 1 Energy/Energy Blaster and 1 Mace/Electric Scrapper. I sewer'd them to level 12 and stocked them to full with DO's.

I then ran the same mission on both, doing nothing but counting attacks. Not damage numbers or times mezzed or even time to complete. Just the number of attacks needed to get through the same amount and type of enemy. Not exactly scientific but it quenched my curiosity.
I'm at work and I don't recall the exact numbers for each, suffice it to say, the scrapper came out way ahead in the end.
The Blaster needed, on average, 3 1/2 attacks to arrest a minion.
The Scrapper needed on average 3.
Even though I wasn't taking note of the time, the scrapper did finish far faster, as I was able to keep moving, without needing to take any breaks for health or blue, which having to do every other spawn with the blaster...

Rip that apart for being non-scientific if you want. In the end all that matters is perception and the perception concerning this isn't just mine.

Give Blasters their crown back, please.

Buff the damage, not the defense.

    Difiance

Defiance 1.0 thankfully died in a fire.

Defiance 2.0 works like a mini fury.
  7. Mountain out of a mole hill.

To me, the little girl was upset that she couldn't buy a doll in a black box. That everything had to and would always be Pink for her.

She couldn't understand why the boys got to get stuff in boxes of all colors while she had no choice but the bright pink. That or she really just wanted to see Superman in a pink box...

    Valid observations for her age.

As far as the whole blue=boys pink=Girls deal, personally I blame the 50's.
  8. ED is here forever.

Paragonwiki.com is still the best place to go. I think they've been having some technical hiccups, TonyV has been working like mad to get everything back up though.

The Wikia is out of date and last I heard, infected.

    Welcome back!

    Hello All

I doubt you'll have a problem finding someone willing to slaughter you relentlessly.

I won't have a chance to be ingame til Thursday though. If you haven't by then I'll help.

This isn't WoW. Slow down, it's okay. It's more about the journey than the destination. We've only had an Endgame for a little over a year now and being a free player, you won't be able to do anything at level cap anyways. Take your time, run some real missions and have fun!

I talked a friend into trying the game out when it went free, he instantly feel in love and played for 12+ hours a day for a month. He lived on a steady diet of Sewer runs and wouldn't ya know it...
A month later he quit in disgust, wondering why he should stick around now that his only 2 slots where 50 with nothing to do...

Well now! That is lucky. My question is, why you feel the need to farm inf(gold). 600+ million is way more than enough at your level. Way more.

Welcome to the game! We want you to stick around. If you're farming for lulz because you enjoy doing it, by all means stick with it! If however, you're farming because you think you have to to compete(ala most other MMO's) well relax, you don't. It's 100% optional, and as you're seeing, still kind of looked down on 'round these parts.

    Also, some good programs:

Mid's Hero builder Very useful for planning.
Vidiot map pack This DL will update the ingame map to show badge locations and enemey layouts etc.

One last thing, when asking for help, your origin doesn't matter. The advice will be the same regardless of you being a mutant or a robot.

    Have fun Hero!

    Xmas Geek Swag?

No, but ponies do now... apparently.
  14. Agreed.

The addition of being able to see the locked pieces... Ended up getting me Celestial.

As the #1 thing I've spent points on has been individual pieces, while creating a new toon/outfit.

If I could also see what the unlockable pieces will look like ahead of time, not only would it give me a clearer goal to strive for, it'll let me know it'll work the way I envision before spending all that time for naught.
  15. It's like Spider-Man taking on the power cosmic and acting as the herald...

Only to be knocked right out by a group of lunchroom ladies throwing rolls. No amount of explaining how 'insert random psychic' is buffing them/debuffing you will make that sit right with the reader/player.

Spider-Man doesn't have to relearn how to be a Hero just because he absorbs the power cosmic. He may have to learn the new extent of his powers, but would bring years of experience to that process as well.

The in-game reason for us being choosen by The Well is because we've proven ourselves to be among the best of the best, the most elite in a city of Supers. The Well is seeking a champion, not a chump.

If 'I' was The Well... After seeing my perspective champions pwned by mortals with minerals I'd be looking elsewhere.

Fact is, most of us playing, long ago learned how to adjust our concepts in places and the lore in others, to make it fit. Sometimes it's as simple as disregarding the 'being talked down to' dialogue and inserting your own based on the concept.
Other times it gets a bit more tricky.

I'm perfectly capable of reasoning that my character isn't actually hurt by the rocks, but is instead tagged with a Teleportation chip that whisks me away to the nearest tele-pad, which happens to be the Hospital.
We can do this because we're used to it. All we're asking for here is a little help in not having to do it so often.

*disclaimer; I've never run an i-trial, so this is all conjecture on my part.
  16. To achieve the desired storytelling effect, without the need to have players be killed, is tricky.

I can see what they wanted to do. Get the notion of the populace being against us to be more than just a meter but I think the insta-death rocks, even when explained as being buffed with psionics, are just to jarring.

Perhaps instead of killing the players, the rocks lay on a 'only affecting self' that hits you briefly. Simulating the step back, having to think about the situation. As these rocks pelt harmlessly off you, the civi's don't care that they can't hurt you, they hate you...

Make the debuff stack, so the more rocks hit, the longer the only affecting self lasts.

We aren't plastered by a mere mortal chunking a pebble but are instead shaken by their emotional resonance.

Exactly. I generally only start IOing a character if they make it to level 35. Before then I'll grab a -KB if needed but otherwise, I'm rocking pretty basic SO builds.

I solo a lot and... it's quite doable, even on Blasters, with nothing slotted. At level 20 mind you, as I don't really bother until 22 for SO's.

On teams, well, other than accuracy issues I'm never really in danger in most group settings anyways.

Maybe the ones you're hearing complain about it are the strict Min/Max types?
  18. Seemed like a no brainer to me. Then again I have no idea what the behind the scenes overhead would be. I just know I would've certainly picked some up and most likely gotten one myself from family. (I did get The Freedom Phalanx novel though. )
  19. The Dev's have mentioned in UStream that they would love to redo older sets like MA, with newer animations and tech. However it is highly unlikely that it will happen for resource reasons.

    Xmas Geek Swag?

    Samsung Captivate
    3DS
    Season 1 of Supernatural
    The Freedom Phalanx novel
You might be a zombie cracked collection

Gave my father a imaginext BigFoot, that thing entertained the whole family though.
  21. My 1st time playing, I accidentally deleted the bottom half of the chat box. Only I didn't realize it until I made a 2nd toon weeks later.

By that time, I'd gotten so used to having just the one pane, that to this day, the 1st thing I do when I make a new toon is delete the bottom pane and right click the main tab to add all the 'now' missing channels.

I've taken to creating a tab with nothing but team/tell chat, so I can flip over to not miss anything in the heat of battle with XP flowing.

Needless to say, I knew exactly the issue you spoke of, glad it's been resolved for you.

  24. Best Buy.

    Truth is...

My area hasn't had a Toy's R Us since the late 90's. Nearest one is something like 3 hours away. This is in the Birmingham Alabama Metro area mind you, not exactly the boonies. I thought all Toy's R Us had crumbled in retrospect.
