    One thing I regret... usually I do a victory dance over their corpse if possible. This time, b/c he died near the tsoo, I couldn't dance

  3. Stalkers can definitely one shot a squishy Hero. But let's not call it insta-kill. While the kill may take one AS blow, the process of setting it up takes far longer, and may involve extreme danger and frustration on the part of the stalker. Finally, any team of two smart Heroes can eat any stalker for lunch.

    Above level 40, the rate at which one's hitpoints can drop from 40% to 0%(even with the I5 HP boost) is so fast, that Defiance really has little discernable effect.

    Blaster Damage

    I've pointed this out before, but blasters need 3 basic changes for them to stand in equal footing with the other damage dealing AT. These are:

    1. inherent mez protection
    2. inherent accuracy so as to combat mog and elude without having to resort to HOs
    3. increased unresistable damage % in pvp

    blasters will alwasy be 1 or 2 hits away from death and I accept that. but if blasters are supposed to be king of damage, I'd like to see that happen.

    That was - and is - the reason why Blaster damage is capped lower than Scrappers. I did forget to add that the ranged attacks of mobs deal less damage (typically) than melee attacks - and the Blaster is generally the target of raned attacks.

    But many issues have come up - most notably, the perception that Blasters are too fragile at levels 35+. Their damage potential does not compensate for their low hit points.

    And, of course, there's the complaint that some Secondaries have too many melee attacks - something that the Blaster avoids at all costs.

    At the moment, Scrappers, and to a lesser degree, Tankers, are being analyzed. Once we establish a baseline, then we'll be in a better position to look at Blasters.

    even if mobs' ranged attacks deal less damage than melee attacks, and if we assume that blaster can always stay away from the mobs' melee range, mobs' ranged attacks will still hurt blasters far more than melee attacks will hurt scrappers. The risk to scrappers cannot compare to the risk that blasters go thru.

    It's time for Statesman and the devs to acknowledge this FACT and do something soon. It'd suck to have to wait another 3 months when the FACT is staring every1 in the face for all that time, not to mention all this time beforehand.

  13. It seems to me that the devs -Statesman- is willing to increase mob hp and reduce blaster AOE with the idea that most if not all blasters are powergamers who 6 slot or 5 slot their powers with damage.

    My question is: have the devs given any thought to those blasters who DON'T put in 5 damage 1 accuracy or 6 damage SOs into their blaster powers?

    Crazy as that sounds, there are, I am sure, blasters out there who prefer range increase, cone increase, recharge increase and all that instead of pure damage for their powers. This might be part of their character concept - for example, a sniper chacter with extra range who likes to sit perched atop a building and shoot at the mobs below.

    By implementing changes as if we are all powergamers, the devs will dramatically punish those casual or character-oriented heroes who don't, or won't, 5 or 6 slot their powers with damage. That, to me, is just unwise
  14. a very good point. I was actually thinking of taking up the medicine pool, since, after fighting Carnies and Malta, I feel that stimulant is becoming increasingly necessary. Why the change, DEVs?
  15. as the game gows past 40, blasters take more and more risks when attacking. It's not like in the 30s when the mobs were easier. After 40 expect to fight carnies, praetorians, malta... all of whom will whup your butt if your alpha strike doesnt down them in the first 5 sec.

    end game is tough as is. If they raise minion hps of mobs post 40, I really have to belive that they are looking to force us to group. even at this point, blasters are forced to run away after the initial alpha strike and come back, as if we are thieves in the night instead of warriors designed after comic book heroes.

    My main is a lv 40 Ice/ Dev, and even though I love my single Target abilities (which are the best in the game!!!), I could not have hit 40 without the help of Targeting Drone, pre-update Smoke Grenade, and most of all, a 6 slotted Trip Mine. Only the use of Trip Mine allowed me to kill masses of even lv mobs and help me lv quickly. That is why, even though Ice-Eng is just as good a set, I will never recommend it to anyone.

    The game as a whole would be more balanced if the blaster lines were more AOE while the scrapper lines were more single target. But hey, scrappers have BS and Spines, tankers have Fire-Fire, we should be allowed to enjoy our own AOE attacks without the fear of nerfs.

    please keep telling Statesman to stop trying to fix what is not really broken - instead, we should all get on the same bandwagon and tell him to get update 3 and CoV here as quickly as possible

    Can you just all agree that you will never convince the other guy? That you will never "win"?

    The point of this thread is to let Statesman know of our concerns. I consider it a success since he has responded on this thread, as well as on several other threads concerning AOE and mob HP. Hopfully, we can convince him loud enough that he will ditch his plan about these issues.

    Outside of that point... honestly like I said before, you will never convince the other guy, so what's the point arguing on the net?

    Never said exactly this. My hope is that making mobs tougher ALONE would bring AOE damage into line. But, I'm still researching different methods to solving this problem.

    Statesman, why is AOE damage a problem? Since blasters have the most fragile health-defense status (hope no one argues with this obvious statement) in the game, shouldn't our damage be the tradeoff?
  19. Statesman is probably busy with the bugs from Update 2, especially the indoor missions spawning +1 mobs

    Personally I hope he nevers gets around to making changes that will most likely end up weaknening us further
  20. I PMed Statesman just before i started this thread. Today I got a PM back from Statesman. He agreed that he will post something like what he did with Tankers and Controllers and ask for suggestions when he decides to make the mob HP changes and any AOE changes.

  21. the discussion is whether blasters CAN be effective at soloing, once the DEVs make the changes they tarted they will make.

    I proposed that it was becoming less and less likely. Many others agree.

    Finally, yes the DEVs have legal right to do whatever the hell they want with this game. But from a community point of view, the game cannot exist without the players, and the DEVs themselves acknowledge our improtance and input. That is why I say its not fair to us blasters to make so dramatic changes in the game, at a point where we spent hours to create characters with the expectation that we will be able to play them the same way in the future.

    This is still a serious issue, and we should'nt divert attention elsewhere, like flaming etc.
  22. Yes, Blasters and Defenders have the same hp... but their jobs are very different. Defenders are mainly created for team play imho (see my profile; I've written the Empath guide on teh FAQ forum ) while it's the blaster's job to dish out pure damage, most of it front-loaded aka alpha strike.

    For the DEVs to say that they will change the game so that we cannot do what we have been doing for all this time... it's really not fair for those who are used to the gameplay, who expect such gameplay, and who built their characters with such gameplay in mind... now is it? I think not.

    I started this thread with the hope that when Statesman reads this, he will see that we are truly concerned and that we are looking for his response. Let's not ruin this thread with a flame-fest.

    I would actually be content if the DEVs leave the game as is. We have become weaker, but we can still solo effectively. I am however concerned with the EVENTUAL change that Statesman said he will bring. I know that all you blasters out there share my concerns. Let's all elt Statesman know that we ARE concerned.

    Statesman, please please reconsider. Your changes are going to nerf blasters in a way that will fundamentally change the AOE blaster's way of gameplay. You're making minions tougher and also going to nerf AOE... we blasters already feel the burn from update 2; is there really call for making us weaker? This change wont make the game 'challenging' in a good way, rather it will make gameplay more frustrating. Please reconsider. Surely there are other ways to 'fix' the game's difficulty post 30?

    btw what is your tactic? I cloak, ss, run in and trip, step back out, and finish off the rest with my ice powers.

    I don't use ice storm and frost breath. I have Blizzard 4 slotted and use it occasionally.

    WIth Update 2 I find that SG is pretty useless, so I get most of my xp thru farming my CoT outdoor mission with my SG mates.

    how about you?
