Do you honestly not understand that preventing free players from meaningfully interacting with other players is going to mean that they come into the game, think "well this isn't fun, I can't play with anyone," and leave?

The point of a F2P system is to ENTICE people to come and spend money on the game.

Not to provide a lower class that people like you can look down their nose at and say "ugh, why give them anything, they're a dirty freem."
  2. Proc'd out creepers and roots does get you some good AoE, but spamming Roots is heavy on Endurance and while creepers does do great damage over time, if you don't actually summon them under a mob (which you'll only be doing every 2 minutes or so), they take a long time to get going on a new mob.

So while you end up with decent AoE eventually it's not really ideal or terribly reliable, nor does it particularly benefit from Embrace of Fire.

Fire mastery adds a lot. I recently got my Plant/Fire/Fire up to level 50 (and beyond) and it's great to go Seeds, Roots, Embrace, Rain of Fire, Fireball, sometimes putting in Creepers for good measure (although usually I'll drop Creepers on a second mob and let them handle it while I wrap up the first one). Without fire mastery your AoE is limited to Roots, Creepers, Fire Breath (which while great can only affect so many guys at a time) and uh... Combustion...

Sure, it's also less defensive, but it also gives you a great self-rez power, so it makes up for it there.

Sleet is great and all but I don't know if the -Res it gives can compete with the 85% damage boost you'll get for 30 seconds on Fire Ball and RoF.

This is an excellent point. MMOs are not renowned for their single-player gameplay and as a single-player game do not hold up very well.

The amount of minor, annoying restrictions placed in the way of F2P players is frankly embarassing. Surely there's enough content in the game that the developers can entice people to pay with that, instead of forcing people to buy the most basic of conveniences?

Not particularly - the iTrials are designed to have elements that specific archetypes are good at, but they're not so picky that one member of that archetype is much better than another. On the BAF for example, any dominator that's taken their AoE Immob can basically lock down all the minions by themselves, and keep all the adds in the same place. A decent spammable AoE mez helps a lot too obviously (sleep patch, knockdown patch, Seeds of Confusion, etc).

As for Gravity, on the BAF you can drop Singularity at a choke and it will actually repel 100% of the minions by itself, which means you don't really have to worry about them at all.

On the Lambda trials you can also control the groups that are sitting around the containment chambers / grenade boxes, so if your team is light on survivability, you can handle those enemies long enough for the group (or yourself, if you're confident) to blow up the object in question and move on.

Plus, against anything where your control isn't exactly useful (ganging up on Marauder f.ex), you can add a lot of DPS which is always useful.

That's nice. Please let me know when you are able to recognize that just because someone insults you, it doesn't actually invalidate any of the logical arguments they may or may not have made, and that a reasonable person would ignore the insult and proceed to consider each argument on its own merits.

Do not mention the argument ad hominem fallacy because you would be the one guilty of it, and not them.

In general I would say that permadom is definitely a priority over defenses. Held/confused/stunned enemies don't do any damage.

Gravity however has such poor control that if you can find a way to get decent defenses in there, it's probably worthwhile. I still wouldn't put it above permadom though.

I like the idea of slotting Kinetic Crash into Singularity actually and wish I had thought of it first. It does take 2 more slots than Expedient Reinforcement, but 7.5% recharge bonuses are rare and hard to slot (compared to 5% or 6.25%), which means you can slot more 6.25 or 5% bonuses, which is more overall recharge / gives you more overall slotting. (For me for example it would let me slot more Obliterations / Decimations which are sets I like a lot). Kinetic Crash is a very, VERY cheap set to slot as well (you basically pay only for the salvage since the recipes are on the order of 1k-10k), as you know.
  12. Well that was a pretty good necro.

I think it's bizarre that GRAVITY CONTROL doesn't have a knockdown patch. It would be a really fantastic thing to wormhole mobs into.

    Also fix Wormhole

I think this, plus giving them names and the border that other entities get, would be a very good change. It's subtle, uses something that people are already familiar with, and doesn't insult anyone's intelligence.

Sometimes when playing, I feel that things that don't have the "I can be interacted with!" border can fall into the background. I'll still notice them (the billboards for example), but generally my assumption is that if it doesn't have a name/border (or is obviously out of place like a mission clickable), it's in the background.

    \_o_/ i dunno man

    Couple things -
I'm told that some of the APP powers for Dominators are showing the incorrect damage - something about them being based off of the Controller version which has containment built into it.

Also, when I hover over a power, some of the enhancement numbers are not being displayed.

I'm not saying that it's impossible to figure out, but there's really no reason not to make it as obvious as the other forms of travel.
  19. As someone who does know how it works, I still think it should be changed.

Before I got a totally sweet computer, I would frequently alt-tab out to another program (reading forums etc) while zones loaded, then alt-tab back in, click something, and find that my mouse happened to land on the policeman and would immediately send me back into the zone from whence I came.
I agree it is also nonintuitive that you should have to click on the policeman to change zones because, as they aren't really NPCs (they don't have names, they can't be selected, etc), they look more like the background.
The only other thing I can think of that you frequently click on to change zones, that doesn't bring a pop-up menu and doesn't have an animation associated with it, is the Ouroboros portal, which is much more obvious (and actually can be targeted, anyway).

It's not a major thing but I do see how it can be confusing and/or irritating. Maybe if they made it like the tunnels where just running past the guards will send you into the next zone, or like the entry into the RWZ where you click on the portal and it gives you the list of "Rikti War Zone, RWZ 1 - n, Cancel".

I am so sick of seeing this argument because it gets trotted out every single time anybody questions the pricing/access of game features in the new payment model. The argument is basically "well it's better than nothing so ALL GLORY TO PARAGON STUDIOS, THEY CAN DO NO WRONG."

It could be like "yes f2p players can level only to 30 and can't slot anything more than TO and can't accept missions so they can only street sweep" and if someone mentions "man that doesn't seem fair / a good idea / fun" all you'll see is "well its better than nothing, so take it and be happy with it, peasant."

Yes, obviously the goal of the subscription plan is to make money and to entice people into becoming VIPs. However, you have to show the free players enough of the game, and price content fairly, so that while they see what they're missing they also get enough to know that it's enjoyable, and know that should they subscribe, they'll get their money's worth out of it.

Therefore, it doesn't make sense to pounce on people for daring to question the prices set in the store. It's a valid concern, and it's in your best interest anyway to see that they're set fairly (for a number of reasons).

    I21 Mids

Posting to confirm that Mids is totally flippin sweet and that I use it a ton. <3
  22. I guess the question is what possible need is there for you to respec so often? You can't change your archetype or your core powersets so you're not going to make radical changes in what your character is good at doing or their overall role in combat. At low levels respeccing doesn't change much and at high levels it is a pain to do.

If the only reason you can offer is "because it makes me feel better about playing lol :3", then, well, that is a pretty poor reason. There are good reasons in this game (as there are in most) that you can't recustomize your character at the drop of a hat. And, as others have stated, you do have an unlimited amount of respecs available to you. You just have to put in a little more effort than you're comfortable doing to get them.

I would enjoy the game more if I could afford to outfit all of my characters in Purple IOs and had a way to readily level them to 50, but I am unwilling to put in the effort to make that happen. However, I'm not about to suggest that these things should be easier...

Incidentally, what I implied wasn't that the game being easy is bad, but that making it easiER is bad. These are not the same things; please read more carefully in the future.
  23. What do you want us to tell you? We have more than enough respecs for any reasonable player and if that's not enough there's a whole server where you can change your build as many times as you want.

And that's still not enough for you? What do you want, unlimited free respecs? Well, I guess the game is already so easy that making it even easier won't do any harm...

What exactly is the point of this thread? If the game isn't for you, then, well, the door's right that way...
