Quote:No one is allowed to sing that song except the Eurythmics...^_^I actually liked the first movie (the remake that is), and am interested in this one. But I could have definitely gone without that more-than-played-out Manson track. Something orchestrated and epic would have been a better fit for the trailer.
anyway, in all fairness, the original, classic "Clash of the Titans" fouled up the story of Perseus as well.
After all, Pegasus is Medusa's child via Poseidon and was born out of Medusa's severed neck, along with a monster whose name I forget.
That being true, Pegasus could hardly be used in the quest against Medusa.
still, I'll probably see this one....it fits that they have Perseus dealing with the Titans even though it's supposed to be Heracles
after all, in the first movie, Perseus decided NOT to end up with Andromeda
Perseus and Andromeda getting together is sort of a necessity for Heracles coming to be, being his grandparents and all. -
season one and two of Heroes are good...going past that is headbanger territory
-
This might not come out until I'm in Japan...so I'll likely watch it for no other reason than "movie in English"....
-
the sad thing is that there's an older Hollywood movie by the people that did the 7th Voyage of Sinbad which, while not following Jack's story, is at least closer than using the wrong storyline
-
Quote:yeah, but Jack the Giant Killer's story has NONE of those things....there's none of the swapping beans for a cow or anything...there's just Jack up and deciding to head out and be a hero...Dunno about that Lycanus. Five magic beans. Giant beanstalk. Gold laying fowl. Magical playing harps....seems to be the right Jack to me.
However, since the people in Hollywood wanted a feature length film (which means longer than 90 minutes nowadays), they pretty much had to add some things into it. Heck, even Disney wasn't able to milk the story for more than 30 minutes, and that was with Mickey!
For myself, I think it looks interesting, but I won't be seeing it in the theatre.

I wrote it. It's a small snippet of my Divine Blood novel...Hel is one of the supporting characters...though I may have crossed the line to ensemble cast without realizing it
-
good, that's about where I want it to be....
just got taken aback by the "you never really explain why she's so injured" comment and realizing it was being said about Hel.
especially since the word I use the whole story for her is "crippled" -
that's comforting, someone commented that I was expecting too much from the reader to make the connection since apparently almost no one knows Norse myth and had to have this section pointed out to them to note I'd explained somewhat
granted, he's from the pre-reader set that don't normally read sci-fi fantasy.... -
Is it asking too much to expect this snippet to be enough to explain why a character named Hel is crippled? Or is this enough for most people?
Quote:An informal competition then? The mercenary considered that a little bit longer. I have noticed that some level of rivalry is healthy between units as it does encourage both sides to improve themselves.
Little Hel just likes to be the best, I think, Issa said with a smile.
Little Hell? Damir responded curiously. Is that what you have called your class?
No, thats the girls name. Hel, one L. You know, the girl that Naiki Semezou was protecting for that fight. She was named after a Northern European legend or something. I think its because of her condition. He frowned and shook his head.
What condition is that?
I shouldnt have said anything, but youll probably meet her eventually anyway, Issa said. The Hel in the legends is kind of half alive. Her left side is supposed to be like a corpse. And the Hel I know, her left side is all withered up and weak. Mostly her arm and leg, but the whole side to some degree. I think her parents named her after the legend because of her problem. Id like to talk to them about naming a girl that way.
He frowned deeply as he finished.
I believe I have seen this girl in the halls occasionally, Damir said. Red tattoos on her face.
If you see them up close, you realize theyre not tattoos. Theyre some sort of birthmark or skin coloring. Anyway, now that Ive told you, I should warn you not to try and help her if you meet her. Unless she absolutely needs it.
Why should I not help a handicapped individual?
Because she hates it. She likes to do things herself if she can.
Ah, that makes sense I suppose, Damir noted. -
This is now on Drivethru RPG as well....pdf is an option:

So I went to go modify my heroic Chinese necromancer using some of the gunslinger options
since there wasn't much ability to make an actual cowgirl type besides options we already had (the cigar, guns and one belt being exceptions)
this is the character:
so I went to add the belt I wanted which was the skirt tail belt and unfortunately found that if my character wanted to wear a jacket, she had two gunslinger belt options...which are basically the same option only one is half way up her torso:
I switched to a shirt rather than jacket to get the skirt-tail belt I wanted because I'd first seen it with the shirt-upper-body option
at this point I discovered that I had to remove the fringe back-detail she had in order to add the skirt tail
this is fine with me and it makes perfect sense...so I go, "oh" that must be why I couldn't get it under jackets
but...no....I go back to jackets and discover that my options are still:
ugly belt
and
ugly belt floating in mid air just under my character's....lungs
this has to be a bug, right? -
lulu has turned annoying with its system for pdfs...but will still try to get it available
meanwhile forgot I had internal art:
have 6 pieces, but I've deemed the two act III pieces as being too spoilery:

Quote:If the drop down menu is per minion that would be best
-Give us a drop down option to switch between male/female with the powers.
-Have set skins for both genders, if able to, give some sort of colour tinting.
Examples of what could be used for the pets, or as base suggestions:
Thugs- Rocket Girls
Mercs- Knives of Artemis style?
Robots- either keep them gender neutral, or the Victorias from Praet
Zombies- um....do they even have a gender anymore?
Ninjas- Use the sliders to make them more feminine
Demons- Girlfriends from Hell, or just keep them the same/different colour?
-At least give us the option to see the product, instead of assuming that people will get up in arms and begin to form a mob to storm Paragon Studios.
Thanks for your time. This is something that I feel really strongly about.
really, if and when we finally get customizable minions, I'd like to see females be an option
and hopefully tasteful females for the most part... -

Quote:it's book one of a series....it's based on a bit of something I wrote for fun up to 430k words, this first book represents the first 34k arch of that story...which exploded into 150k words on the rewrite...which accounted for removal of elements that weren't mine and the accompanying need to provide more info for the readers in a way that wasn't infodump exposition....I could have conceivably broken it up into 3 50-60k books covering the students' first day at the new school in one book, another one-two weeks after in the next and the danger/action complement in the third, but I think putting them in one volume works better....I'm wondering what will happen with the remaining 400k wordsIs this the first book in a new series, or is it book six in a series despite appearing to be a book one?
though, granted, I'm already seeing major divergences between the two versions
I'll lookinto smashwords and B&N...also might put up the pdf tonight and look at drivethrurpg as well -
well, I've sold 13 copies of that book (25 books overall) in the last 6 days and I can only account for 4 of them. The two mentioned here and two other people. So doing better than I'm used to.
-
Quote:yeah, I and one of the other editors noted that we kind of wish they had at least mentioned they were on staff in the review. He's not reviewing for the reason you mentioned. The other two consider themselves primarily fans, I guess.I just downloaded the book because I figure it's only a buck. And I will definitely give an unbiased review.
However I was forced to engage in a facepalm so violent that I now look like a pug. A third 5 star review has been added... by another one of your editors... who also has no other book reviews.
Sorry about that Lycanus. -
Quote:Yeah, was worried about the one he put up, he's got insider knowledge of later parts of the story and might be a bit influenced. He's also a fan of some of my other books that offered to help out as a pre-reader. But didn't want to say I've got one 5-star from an unknown and one from one of the editors and point him out.
You have a 5 star review on this book by a person listed as an editor. That's one step away from you writing your own review stating how you love your own writing and are looking forward to reading more of it in the future.
Also, look into hiring a professional editor.
I'm more interested in the "Jason" person whom I don't really know who that is. I think they might be someone that watches me on deviant art...but I'm not really sure.
Anyway, of the editors, one of them apparently does editing and proposal writing for a living as part of being on staff with an Australian University. I'm not sure what exactly he does, but his mentions of day job often discuss such things as proofs and formating and the like.
So I had at least one professional editor on staff who just donated time. Last I heard, he put it on his resume.
and thanks on the cover, I lucked out with a great artist -
Quote:I agree it was good for an evening out with friends....probably won't end up buying it, but that's fine....Its a decent flick. I felt the story was solid, if a little rushed in places, the action scenes were over the top but fun and entertaining. I will say I think the dialog was prety bad in a lot of places, but what ever.
Not the best movie in the world, certainly reminiscent of 300 in some places but over all a decent movie. Sometimes watching the fight scenes I felt like they did their anatomy research playing Mortal Kombat, but it was fun to watch.
I am amused at the way a lot of fiction is presenting the Greek Gods as benevolent entities recently...always seems to me that the Greeks are the worst pantheon you could live under....the Norse and even the Asian pantheons seem more respectful of humanity -
Finally....after two months of editing and one month of working with artists on the cover and internal pieces....my sixth book is out!
Lots of people helped on this one, including some members of the CoX community. Anyway, thanks to everyone that did help out getting this thing done and for those that haven't been part of the project, here's a link to a simple promo one of the pre-readers put together for me:

Quote:Heh, went with some of my sunday gaming group, we did exalted one campaign ago and depending on whether or not I get a job in Japan, we're about to do ScionI think the director took a page from the big book of anime.
Rule #623 Human bodies have at least 8 litres of blood in them, that will gush when cut.
Aside from the over abundance of gore (which I was informed after that it was the director's style), it was pretty good. Served as a good example for my RPG group to show them what Exalted Solar fighting would look like.
our comment was:
either mortal hero meets a solar exalted
or
the most epic visitation of all time
