  1. Sounds like it will be another fun month!

I have a couple of questions. Can you copy the CoH logo? Can you use real actors to represent CoX characters by having their names shown in the poster and paint their likeness?
  2. Congrats on the cake, Projectionist!

    DeviantART meme

    [ QUOTE ]
Internet meme.. Stuff that gets passed around among people really really quickly and tends to be pretty well known. lolcats, YTMND, Rickrolling, Star Wars Kid, Numa Numa are good examples.

a dA meme would be similar but passed around and tend to be more well known within dA

    [/ QUOTE ]

Whoa, I only know of lolcats out of those, and only because there is a thread in this section. And of course I didn't know what a meme was, either. I feel so out of touch...
  4. I miss the days when it was not safe to even stand for a few seconds to type in Siren's.

How do you rate threads anyway? I don't see an option. Is one star worse than no stars?
  5. Lol, grats Foo! Do I get anything?
  6. I started doing portraits from photo references like these(example1,example2) in the hopes of improving the quality of my less polished works. I figured I'd do one with a CoH character, so here is

    War Bride for Comrade Hero.
  7. Thanks all for the useful info. I didn't know it was so easy to make your own back-up copy. I think I will try EB Games first. I still need the cyborg pack, and it is cheaper with the free month from the Architect edition.
  8. Has anyone been able to find the Architect edition on the shelves in Canada? I would like to have an up-to-date DVD copy of the game for when/if I need to reinstall.

I have checked both Bestbuy and Futureshop. They have all the other major MMOs, but CoH is curiously missing. Amazon.ca has it, but it is overpriced at $29.99 CDN. Newegg.ca has it listed for $22.99, but after ridiculous shipping it is even more expensive than Amazon.

I won't need the DVD if the upcoming Rogue expansion comes with the first 15 issues. But I read that you need to already have CoH/CoV to play it, so I kinda doubt that it will.
  9. Thanks both of you for double flattery. I have never done a collaboration, but it is something I might potentially be interested.

The only thing on my must do list is the finale of Gray Huntress and the Proto-Deus, and of course the soon-to-be-announced June Fan Art Battle. I am kinda tempted to turn my free art thread into city of bike girls to generate more interest.

Storm, by my "digital watercolors", do you mean the stuff I am doing now, or the exercises I did back in February where I tried specifically to emulate the look of traditional watercolors?

    For a Giggle

Ouch, I woke up at 7 am. I hate laywers!
  11. This is how I feel as someone who almost voted for Tacky_Tricky. His piece was in my top 3 for my dice roll, and the background in his piece was a big part of it.

    [ QUOTE ]
Where did he cut and paste the border from? Not the linked original, as the border and background for each is different. For instance, Tricky's has trees in the corners whereas the original has butterflies. Even the crescent design has a different pattern on it.

It's a really well constructed piece, but the character art looks too sharp. It doesn't match up well with the background as far as texture goes. Perhaps that's what gives it the sense of being a copy/paste job.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I, too, had assumed that the borders were TT's own designs, since they were different from the originals. I noticed the graininess associated with low quality JPGs, but even then, I was innocent enough to believe it was an artificial effect for the look he was going for in the piece. In fact, I was so impressed with the background I had to ask him how he did it on his deviation page, to which he never replied.

I got the answer a day later by pm from someone who I won't mention the name but happened to be an admirer of Mucha's works, and he showed me with links that the patterns were from Mucha's other works.

    [ QUOTE ]
Er, yeah, why are we singling out Tacky_Tricky when a few artists blended things like game elements and bits from the originals with their drawing/painting? Jeez.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Both Alex and Projectionist clearly stated that they used screenshots from the game. I still think TT did a wonderful job on the character itself. But not mentioning his sources for the background was deceiving, and it led more than one person to believe it was his own work. This is a friendly contest, but it doesn't mean we can just copy and paste anything we want without giving credit where it is due.
  12. Congrats TA!

I never told you, but that first Grimbro painting has been my favorite CoH art for the longest time. When I first saw it, I didn't even know what a digital painting was, and I was totally blown away. I remember showing it to my drawing teacher and telling him that I want to be able to do stuff like that.
  13. I couldn't decide, so I resorted to ;dice. I could have cheated with ;dice7 to vote for myself, but I behaved. CoH says my vote goes to:

    Juggertha.
  14. These were supposed to be sketches, but they are turning out more like semi-polished pieces. I spent several hours on each one. I would like to get to the point where I can do conceptual paintings in an hour or so and definitely not longer than two, while doing a better job at capturing the essence and making it look more interesting with an illusion of detail. I have a long long way to go.

Anyway, here is Gray Huntress and the Proto-Deus part 3.
  15. Thanks guys.

Gray Huntress and the Proto-Deus part 2

Part 3 will follow later today after I write the story.

P.S. I didn't realize Gray was a writer. My story is going to sound so childish to him.
  16. When I brought up the idea that maybe I should do a sketch for someone who buys me a costume pack, Gray Huntress was the only one that showed interest, and he actually chose to buy all the packs for me! Since all the sketches were going to be for the same person, I thought it would be cool to develep a theme based on the different costume packs, and do a series of paintings that tells a story.

Incidentally, one type of commissions I would like to offer is "illustrated biography" that follows the story of the character. So this was the perfect opportunity for me to test if it was something feasible. It seems at this point that I will have to be able to paint much much faster to make it worth my time, but I will see where it goes with practice.

Without further delay, Gray Huntress and the Proto-Deus part 1. The story is in the description.
  17. Did everyone make it? Looks like this is the most competitive month yet!
  18. I did these from pictures in a calendar when I started playing around with markers. Looking at the image you linked, the same coloring rules will apply. I think I can do a better job digitally than I did with markers, color pencils and fineliners.
  19. Heh, maybe you should look into getting Colors! for your DS so you can do digital paintings at work.
  20. Wow, grats Volt!

I think Juggy got more pageviews in a day than I did in 2 years...
