June Challenge: 'Movie Poster'

Overview: For this month i want you to imagine City of Heroes/Villains is being made into a movie. Take any of the COX signature characters (NOT forum characters this month) or any of the many NPC's from both games and make up a movie poster. Generally with a movie poster you want to get the viewer excited about the movie just by seeing the poster so this will be the challenge for you guys. Comical, serious, Horror, drama, whatever you decide to entice the voters and viewer to really want to see this movie. Show us why you are the top ten in the contest!

Rules: [u]This a call for ORIGINAL art of a movie poster made for a COX themed movie. This means no recreations, homages to or any variation of popular poster will be accepted.[u]

There will be another single elimination for this month!!

There will be only one entry allowed per person, and it is due no later than June 24th at midnight PST. Voting will be held the following week. If there is no entry submitted or it is late, you automatically forfeit and lose your spot on the rankings board.

Some notes:

<ul type="square">[*]The winner of June's challenge will carry immunity for next month provided they submit a piece for June.
<ul type="square">[*]Projectionist carries immunity this month provided he submits a piece. As he was the winner from May
Please keep all your discussion and posting of pieces to this thread. The voting WILL BE ON ANOTHER THREAD.

Good luck guys,

-FArt Admin

Sounds like it will be another fun month!

I have a couple of questions. Can you copy the CoH logo? Can you use real actors to represent CoX characters by having their names shown in the poster and paint their likeness?

Can you copy the CoH logo?

Yeah i'd say that would be fine. Though coming up with a different looking logo to go with the overall theme would be a better choice.

Can you use real actors to represent CoX characters by having their names shown in the poster and paint their likeness?

If you wanna use names or real names to represent the characters in the movies i would say to use the developers real names.(I.E Matt Miller, etc). That way it adds a bit of realism. As to the representation of real actors in the movie posters i would ask that you just stick with the NPC's original looks in the various forms that they appear throughout the game.

The hope is to challenge the artists to expand their creative efforts out to include originality in the whole piece. especially as we are in the top ten now.

Wow, you pulled all those names off the top of your head? Who the heck is Hero 1? Do they have a new Statesman now that Jack is gone?

Getting the names from here!

There was a name that they had set for Statesman apparently. Same for Ms Liberty and Lord Recluse. I am casually going through and trying to find names. The others are the real life developers names for the character they represent.

Look at paragonwiki if you have any questions about developer names of characters. If the character page doesn't link to a developer name at the top, they don't have a developer attached.

(okay - not really getting where the police-shake-down thing is coming from )

In case anybody else finds this useful - I found this info on Movie Poster Sizes (so I could get the proportions correct):

http://www.practical-home-theater-gu...ter-sizes.html

Scroll down to "Major U.S. Movie Poster Sizes"

"The most common among Poster Sizes: The One-Sheet Movie Poster

One-Sheet (27" x 40"): One-sheets are the most popular among movie poster sizes and represent the standard movie poster size used in U.S. movie theaters.

Up to 1983, one-sheets measured approximately 27x41 inches in size. However, re-prints of pre-1983 originals will normally measure anything between 39.5 inches up to 40.5 inches in height, by 27 inches in width.

After 1983, we started to see a shift in the one-sheet movie poster size with the height being reduced to 40 inches rather than the original 41 inches used previously. However, almost all original one-sheets printed after 1989 are 40 inches, with poster sizes measuring 39.5 inches and 41 inches being the exception. Reprints of post 1989 posters would normally come in the same size of the original poster size, making it difficult especially for the untrained eye, to identify an original from a reprint."

Am I the only one who thinks Drew Struzan has been severely lacking in the movie poster world lately?

Pity ... not in anymore, but you know what? Now I can do both of the ones I have in mind and be the greatest competitor that no one can loose to

And, wow, to the topic I quoted; Reepo is one of the posters listed there, surprised considering I didn't think that was that popular. Also amusing how there's like 10 Dark Knight posters in that list.
