Even if it's not a matter of "profitability" I'd almost rather have to pay extra for these occasional big things on the principle that it will allow them to develop even MORE stuff than they would have been able to if they kept giving us absolutely everything for "free".

Quote:I never said we had to pay for ALL new powersets in the past. I'm just making the very obvious point that there have already been other powersets we DID have to pay extra for. Street Justice just happens to be another one of those... big deal. *shrugs*But we got plenty of powersets for "free": Archery, Trick Arrow, Shields, Willpower, Sonics, etc. I'm not even counting proliferation.
Now, it looks like non-Premium, non-Expansion sets will be few and far between. So far, Time Manipulation has been gratis, and Beam and SJ we have to pay for. Of the upcoming sets I'm aware of, both will be Premium: Titan Weapons and Staff.
I'm not a fan of for-pay sets, but I'm no fool and I realize it makes more financial sense for NCSoft to do this. I would be better at waiting for my free points to stack up if they didn't keep throwing new costumes and sets at us.

Quote:It's not "new territory" at all. For the handful of powersets we got "for free" there have been plenty of others tied to paid expansions. This just happens to be one of the ones we have to pay extra for. Stop being so dramatic about this.I got Archery and Sonic for the cost of my subscription back in Issue 5, which was a free issue and not a paid expansion. Paying extra for power sets on top of a subscription is indeed new territory. Awful new territory.
I feel that a paid player should get the whole game for the cost of their subscription (like we used to, accept paid expansions), and don't give me this crap about my 400 "free" points a month. You know what I'm talking about, and being purposely obtuse isn't cute or clever. -

Quote:The whole reason we have to pay for this via the Paragon Market is BECAUSE it's not part of a paid expansion. In effect we've had to pay extra for just about every new powerset we've ever gotten. In the past the only way we usually got new powersets were as parts of paid expansions. Because this powerset is being offered on its own it needs to be paid for on its own. There's really no mystery to it. *shrugs*So, why do VIP players have to purchase this? Granted I know we can purchase it with our free points, but I think this model is awful. If a power doesn't come with an expansion (like KM with GR), then VIP players should have access to it without all this Paragon Market song and dance.

Yeah it's been in Paragonwiki for like a month now.

I'm hoping that with the Paragon Market in place we'll start getting more stance emotes sold individually as they get made. It'd be cool to start getting a few new ones released like every month or so.

Quote:If you're realistically looking for an official announcement today I'd give them at least another 3 or 4 hours from now so that it's well into their Tuesday morning. They practically never make announcements earlier than that about anything.Easy for you to say. It's half past 3 PM on my end
Mostly, I just don't like being in the dark. If I KNOW there's something to be waiting for, eh. I can wait for it. I'll just sit down and watch all of Linkara's reviews of bad Silent Hill comics. But I'm really not sure what I'm waiting for, and that's what kills me.

This is why I don't let the "lore" of this game bother me too much. I think it's cool there's a large backstory this game is based on, but I don't let the particular details and/or rectons of that canon conflict with my own characters' stories. YMMV of course.

Quote:One could argue that it's actually the red-headed step-child of Babylon 5 (since DS9 didn't happen until a few years -after- JMS pitched his idea for Babylon 5 to Paramount as a possible TNG spin-off) but at the very least it's better than Voyager.Deep Space Nine? Isn't that kinda the red-headed step-child of Star Trek shows?

I think Razor makes a mouse that has a bunch of mappable buttons on it designed specifically for MMOs. That might help him while he's using the mouse. I'm not exactly sure how cheaply that mouse can be bought for but something like that might be a viable "one hand" solution. Good luck to him regardless.

Quote:As a further FYI I think that "special Galaxy portal in Ouroboros" only exists in the blueside Ouroboros. It make sense for it to only be blueside but I just didn't want anyone to think this would be an option for a Rogue. In other news, if you have an SG base but DON'T have the Galaxy City teleporter, you can access Echo: Galaxy City from a new, special portal in Ouroboros, grab all the exploration badges while in supergroup mode, and then create the teleporter.

Quote:It -could- be debated. But I'll still be at a loss as to how you can compare one version of a thing that does not officially exist in the game yet with another version that does not officially exist yet and use terms for those comparisons that only have meaning within the context of the game.I could go into why the term could be applied to a beta period, but... do any of us really want to bother?

Nerfing implies a Status Quo has been changed. There is no Status Quo here yet to be changed.

Quote:Yes I was actually vaguely aware that people have been "complaining" about this for years in the Kheld forum and elsewhere. I just wanted to see something new here. So what can we say about that then? If people have be making the case for this for years and nothing has been directly done about it how likely do you think it'll be to get changed at this point, especially considering that other ATs like Tanks and Defs have been addressed but Khelds specifically weren't?Kheldians as a whole have an entire forum with multiple threads detailing (by people better with ideas and numbers than I) many possible and indeed wanted changes to the HEATs.
Personally, I'd rather have a constant higher Recovery rate on Kheldians (Not Superior Conditiong from VEATs, that thing is next to negligible...) to compensate for the high endurance cost for low damage return on things like solo PBs and...stuff. I'm no number cruncher; I don't know what would benefit the AT most. But SOMETHING is better than nothing when solo.
Like I said before I'm not against this idea (and never have been) but I'm certainly not going to be holding my breath for it either. -
Quote:I think the problem here is that the "objective standards" you're talking about are usually just as expression of players' SUBJECTIVE disappointment that their favorite toy was reduced in effectiveness. The only "objective standards" the Devs have to care about are their own, not what we the players -think- about it.Nerfing is a rare instance in which the developers actually did go too far (by objective standards) in the reduction of something's effectiveness.
Regardless it still makes no sense to describe a pre-release beta test modification to a powerset as a "nerf" in any context.
-
Quote:I understand your reasoning and I certainly would not be against such an improvement sometime in the future. I guess I just don't see it as something that must be fixed as ASAP or "just because" the others were changed. Having an AT that works differently than all the others is not necessarily a "bad" thing.Yes, but in the past Tanks and Defenders Inherents were 'balanced' around 'People should be doing things in teams'.
Now that the Devs have finally and thankfully abandoned that, Defenders and Tankers got their solo-friendly changes.
So, Kheldian's are left out. They are still stuck with an Inherent that does NOTHING outside of teams. They are the only AT that suffers from this. Ergo, it needs fixing.
Perhaps if you or someone else suggested a very well thought out idea for what you'd change the Khleds' inherent to then the Devs might be more likely to "buy into" the idea that it's something that actually needs to be addressed. -
Quote:The basic definition of the word "nerf" in a MMO context is "anything that worked one way for a while then got changed by the Devs to make that thing be less overpowered or unbalanced than it originally was". But I think a key implied part of that word is that it has to be something that was in the LIVE game that got changed. You can't nerf something that technically doesn't exist in the live game yet. It's like demoting a future solider who's not actually in the Army yet - it makes no sense.I'm really not sure why people would consider a power that was available for a while in a beta, and then lowered to an effectiveness well below general expectation... could not be considered "nerfed".
I'd agree that Street Justice got changed between now and last month. But that change was PRIOR to its official release. The Devs might yet change it a hundred different other ways before it's released and none of those changes could really be called nerfs or boosts either. Those words really only have meaning to us once the feature in question is live and its baseline is established. -
I think there may have been other problems that weren't quite as obvious. For instance none of the known female temp costume powers were available in the store. It was striking me funny that those specific gender based options were missing. Also people noticed that when they sold the Ghost Pirate costume a couple of weeks ago the text for it was still showing it to be the "two week temporary" Halloween version.
My guess is that they've decided to take them off-line to fix all of these various problems more completely. -
Quote:I've never really seen my Kheldian's team-oriented inherent as a "bad" thing that needed to be fixed. Some of my characters solo better than others - some of them work better on teams than others. I'll pick the character I play with based on the situation. I don't need them (nor would they ever) work equally well in all cases.Kheldians are the only ones in-game who have 'lolsolo' Inherents. And yes, they could really do with a look at.
That being said I solo with my Peacebringer quite offten. No big deal. *shrugs* -
As a compromise to a fully customizable house creation system I think the Devs could provide a number of "pre-fab" spaces that could be styled very nicely and come with a limited set of hardwired features (like a personal vault for salvage, recipes, etc). This way the devlopment could be made simpler and these self-contained "house units" could be sold individually in the Paragon Market. Eventually they could offer several dozen types of houses of various styles to satisfy most people. Every character could own multiple houses but only have one "active house" at a time the same way we have to choose which active Incarnate powers we have.
So if you want a fully customizable space you use the existing SG base system. If you just want a "personal house" to store your stuff then you can buy one via the Paragon market. -

Quote:Sadly as much as we'd all like to see continued improvements in all facets of this game there's only ever going to be so much that can be done. I think the reality people need to come to grips with is that for all the cool things the Devs have done there's nothing changing the fact that the fundamental architecture of this game was established roughly 10 years ago now. However, I just feel as though the character creation model has dulled in comparison over the years while everything else improves. I know I'm practically falling on deaf ears as this would require a near complete revamp of the player model, which would be a ton of work....but here's to wishful thinking.
There comes a point in software application maintenance and development where the only way to get significant improvements would be to basically start over from scratch with, in this case, a new game. You can't really keep "updating" a system forever because no matter how good the patches have been the system eventually suffers from the "house of cards" syndrome and can't take any more. Companies like Microsoft solve this problem by re-creating its Windows OS every few years to take advantage of new technologies - I doubt Paragon Studios would ever have the luxury of re-creating the core of this game like that every few years.
I hope this game still has a few more good years left to it at least. But let's try to be realistic about just how much more improvement can be expected here.
