I've been running a single-form PB for years and I would have to agree with pretty much everything you've said here. There's no real need to slot for extra KB or DEF debuff because almost all PB attack powers offer these things already and when you get your attack chain going all those small "default" level effects will quickly stack up.
As far as the "relying on human form for ranged damage" concept goes I'd simply say that the ranged damage capability of Human-form is simply not that impressive (and remember I'm saying that as a player who's happily chosen to run with a Human-form only PB). There is a reason PBs have the squid form option. I've found just about the only way Human-form ranged powers work well is to 5 or 6 slot them, which basically dictates single-form only. Spreading slots to the other forms makes concentrating on the ranged attacks fairly hard to do. I'm not trying to say a Human/Dwarf dual form PB is gimp - I'm just saying I suspect that combo probably finds itself in Dwarf-form almost all the time.
Personally I'm planning to maximize on the new I24 Fighting Pool to make my Human-form PB that much more of a "Blapper" melee character. I wish everyone luck with what they plan to do with it. -
Yep you can't "buy" SG Prestige badge credit the same way you can't earn credit for personal INF badges via profits from the auction houses. Badges like these have to earned "for real" so to speak.

Well I did say one of many problem(s)... plural.

Quote:No I would never claim that the original Blake's 7 was perfect and certainly its special effects are fairly dated.Well, you can't argue that original Blake's 7 was perfect, because of the wobbly BBC sets and FX. So even a shot-for-shot remake with decent FX would be worthwhile.
But the chances we'd ever get a shot-for-shot remake with decent FX is probably very small. *shrugs*
Quote:I would say that the big problem is that so much recent SF has been derived from B7 that anyone coming to it new would consider it derivative itself. -
Quote:I have a sneaking suspicion that had Firefly managed to continue on for multiple seasons worth of episodes that the overall story would have started leaning more and more towards Mal directly opposing the Alliance and even somehow becoming a significant threat to them. Simply "enduring" the Alliance would not have been enough for him in the long run. River probably would have played a key role in that "crusade".I can't think of any show that's been on since B7 that's derived from it. I could see people draw parallels to Firefly but Mal wasn't on a personal crusade to take down the Alliance, simply endure them.
This, among other reasons, is why many people feel it was a shame the show wasn't allowed to fully explore that possibility. -
I'm sure these were reasonably good shows for the people who watched them.
As it turned out neither one of them interested me enough to give them a try. *shrugs*
Quote:As long as it turns out better than the remakes of early Michael Crichton movies that AMC have been doing. Hated their version of Andromeda Strain and Coma doesn't look all that hot.
Oh and Mandu forgot Being Human as one of the SyFy channel hits. Like all shows it will depend on the cast and the writing. Blake 7 always was a gritty space drama and if they embrace that aspect of the original then they may have another Battlestar Galactica on their hands.
For what it's worth the American version of Being Human was entertaining mostly because SyFy was simpleminded enough to make an almost 100% exact copy (episode for episode) of the original British show and I'm reasonably sure SyFy didn't have much directly to do with the actual making of the relaunched Battlestar Galactica at all. -

Quote:Heh that figures. Hopefully this was a change that actually fixes some latent problem with the costume editor functionality instead of just being someone's idea of a purely "QoL improvement". Sadly if this was just meant to be a "QoL improvement" then I'm pretty sure there are more aspects to it that are annoying than helpful.Believe it or not, this is NOT a bug. Here's a line from patch notes for June 26

Oh darn... I was almost excited for a couple of seconds until I read "SyFy".
That means there's probably only about a 1.7% chance this will be of any redeemable value whatsoever. -

This is a cool idea. But given how people have been suggesting for 8+ years that we be allowed to have more than 1024 characters for our character descriptions it would seem the Devs are fairly reluctant to give us more customizable text space for anything.
-
I just re-watched the 1991 Rocketeer a few weeks ago and it was still fairly entertaining all things considered. Of course when I watched it I wasn't sitting there thinking "They really need to remake this movie" either.
I know Disney's probably all excited to cash-in on the wave that The Avengers created, but seriously all this "remake" nonsense is just getting tiresome given just how often these remakes suck compared to the originals. -
Quote:Actually I think the OP already tried that before he posted to this forum.Personally, I'd try asking in the Markets and Inventions forums. If you can offer a really substantial amount of inf, then someone might come up with one.
Quote:Otherwise, I can only suggest you keep a careful watch for community team-run competitions and events, and also any player-run events that have community team support with their prizes. I got my Ring Mistress costume code as a prize in the 2010 Halloween Ball event. -
Yeah I'm not sure of any better ways to track one down either. The buying/selling of codes like that (especially with real money) is generally frowned upon anyway. I know plenty of people make deals for Influence in game which generally better than the eBay option. But as Forbin_Project says I wouldn't pay too much for one of these code regardless unless you felt the seller seemed trustworthy - there probably aren't too many "legitimately unused" codes like that floating around anymore.
As an alternative they have started putting some of these older "exclusive" costume codes up for sale periodically in the Paragon Market. There's always the chance they'll eventually sell the Ring Mistress one like that. -
Quote:I suppose there might be another bug out there that does something like that but I don't think I've ever seen it. I do know that the "brightest white" tends to make some costume items like Tights looks strangely "see-through" and washed out so I often avoid it just because it doesn't look good.I believe I read somewhere that when you select the brightest white it does something wonky to your color selections.

Quote:In account management page is lists with exact specificity how long I've played starting from 2004.
What is the problem with using the information they obviously have to just continue with certain Veteran badges?Quote:Because it's not measuring "how long it's been since you registered your account", it's measuring "how many months of subscription/VIP time you've had". And Freedom screwed the pooch on that one.
I think the only reasonable solution to this mess is for the Devs to step back and finally give up on worrying about the "subscribed time" concept altogether. Instead they should focus on a player's "account creation" date. That info actually DOES exist for every player and it should be a relatively trivial matter for the game to calculate a "years since account created" value to check for these badges. No convoluted account database gyrations required for that.
Now I'm well aware that using the account creation date is not going to be exactly what the Devs intended for this. It'll allow for "crazy" scenarios like people who created an account 8 years ago will have 8 badges regardless if they've played the game for 10 hours since then or 10,000 hours. But frankly I'm willing to deal with that possibility amongst the playerbase if it means we'll get WORKING annual vet badges out of the deal.
Basically until the Devs stop beating their heads against the wall we're not going to see this fixed. I've offered them this reasonable alternative (I actually started suggesting the account creation date idea YEARS ago) and I'm -still- waiting for their response to this. -
Quote:I suppose this default color thing could theoretically be serving some non-obvious purpose like "reducing file sizes" or some such. But seriously even if you accounted for all the costume files of all the characters in this game you're probably only talking about a terabyte or two of data at most. That amount of data should not be a pressing IT issue for this game's servers. That's a bug? huh. I've only ever noticed it when the option I'm looking at is set to "none", so I figured that's just how it worked now. You know, to save file size by removing unnecessary data, or something. Well I hope it is a bug then... so it can get royally squished.
I hope this was just some kind of "accidental oversight" that can be switched back without causing too much trouble. -
Quote:Sadly I think the only way you'd have a show today centered around a believable "super-advanced" helicopter would be to have some kind of UAV. The future of combat aircraft is clearly going towards unmanned automated systems. The downside of that of course is that you wouldn't need a cool human pilot who'd serve as the main character of a show based on that.I'd also be curious to how a modernized reboot would turn out if such a thing ever happened.
Basically what I'm saying is that the days of shows like Airwolf and Knight Rider are probably better left as fond memories of the 80s. -
I recently started to notice this bug too and I'll add my voice to those who find it annoying.
I usually like to set both colors of any items I'm not using to the top left full black (1,1) settings. But this silly bug is forcing us to accept these weird new defaults which don't seem to serve any useful purpose. Worse still if you have colors set the way you want and you accidentally scroll around through the "None" option you'll lose them which is very much less than "helpful".
I realize this is not a critical show-stopper but hopefully it'll be addressed eventually. -
Quote:I must admit that was not what I thought you were suggesting. So many people have been begging for a "super-fast" Fly power that would combine the speed of SS with a Fly power over the years that I sort of mistakenly assumed that's what you were asking for. My bad.I have both flight and SS on a number of toons - definitely not overpowered, since they're mutually exclusive.
I'm not proposing that the SS component speed up flight, just that it have a toggle similar to dual pistol's "modes".
Freeing up a slot to use on something else would be nice. -
-
Quote:That's cool. Again I think it should be fairly obvious I had not heard of the news of this new power. Would love a link to your source and/or name of the power so I can search more about it myself.I'm not talking about a single superfast fly. The base power is supposed to be a fly clone, and the temp power that it adds is an unslottable afterburner clone. Activating the afterburner clone will still make you Only Affecting Self while sped up.
So you won't be getting Superspeed speed while flying with the ability to attack - but you will get Fly + Afterburner without having to burn three power choices.
At any rate it sounds like a good compromise - the Devs are making it so that it only takes up one power choice in a build but it's still limited with the "Only Affecting Self" quality. That'll keep it from being overpowered which I assume was always the Devs' original fear with this idea. -
Quote:Hey if something like that happens then great. I wouldn't be upset to see that happen. *shrugs*One of the upcoming specialized power pools apparently has a Fly+Afterburner combo, similar to Sorcery's Fly+Teleport combo. So... Yeah, we ARE going to get something better. :P
I'm just going by the reasoning some of the Devs gave for why Afterburner had to be a separate power from flight. It was explained along the lines that they didn't "want to make it easy" to have super-fast flight and wanted to keep some limits to it. This is pretty much the story they had been telling us for years even before they gave us Afterburner.
So if they've come completely full circle from their original design concepts and are going to give us a super-fast Fly as a single power then cools. Obviously I'm not -really- going to believe it until I see it, but hey that's just me. -
I'll always remember him as Commodore Decker in one of the best ST:TOS episodes ever made: "The Doomsday Machine".
RIP Mr. Windom. -
