Welcome to the 2004 version of this Suggestions forum...

My point is this has been suggested for many, many years already.
If you're holding your breath for this to be changed "like NAO" you're going to be turning all shades of blue and purple soon enough. *shrugs*

Now don't get me wrong: I'd probably see any new feature length version of TRON regardless and I'd be very interested in learning more about the "in-between" story like I mentioned earlier in the thread. But as for a "sequel" movie(s) I could probably live pretty well enough without them. Unlike some stories there's really no pressing "need" to advance the story any farther into the future after Legacy.

Just a few days ago I was on a team that threw out a few Shivans, HVASs and a couple of other pets but used no nukes and we still got the badge. True we did not kill Director 11 quite as "instantaneously" as I've seen him killed during other runs, but it can be done without nukes right now. I suspect as time goes on when new things like Lore incarnate pets become available this badge will be that much more "doable" without nukes.

Eh, I wouldn't waste any time insulting people who like to play video games who might be the target demo for this movie. But I will say the main action scenes did come off pretty much like I was looking over someone else's shoulder while -they- were playing a video game. Maybe in a few more years video games will look exactly like this movie did and I'll have more fun "playing" this movie than I did "watching" it.

It's fine to disagree. I actually have no doubt there will be lots of people who will love it regardless.

I just simply feel this movie was an obvious "excuse" to showcase about 20 minutes worth of "cute anime ninja girl action". There's absolutely nothing wrong with a few minutes of "cute anime ninja girl action" in and of itself. I just think the attempt to package that into a feature-length movie was an unfortunate failure. *shrugs*

    Sucker Punch

The 15 or 20 minutes of "action scenes" of this movie were just about its only saving grace. The "movie" that links together these scenes was pretty much absolute drek. When people start ripping these scenes and posting them as remixes on YouTube you'll have something worth spending a few minutes to watch. The rest of the entire 109 minute movie? Not worth the few dollars we spent on it.

RottenTomotes.com currently has this movie rated at 20%. There -is- a reason for that. I've loved the movies Synder has made so far but this was easily his worst one to date. Better luck next time Zack...
  7. Well as of this post the critic rating for Sucker Punch is down to 20%. We just got back from a matinee of this movie and let's just say that rating is unfortunately right about on target. As I said in an earlier post RottenTomatoes.com has been pretty close to the mark in the last few years and this movie is no exception to that.

I won't provide any spoilers for those who still want to see this. But I'll comfortably say that I'm glad we didn't pay more than matinee prices for it and if I never see this movie again I won't be missing out on any long term "entertainment" value. Needless to say we won't be bothering to buy the Blu-ray for this one.

In a nutshell there's only about 20 minutes worth of "cool" action scenes and even those weren't particularly earth-shatteringly impressive. The rest of it was just a mess of storytelling and half-baked themes that never really gelled into anything worth caring about. Maybe the best way to describe it was that it was like watching a 109 minute trailer for a movie that's never actually going to exist. The pacing/editing was so quick and disjointed that it was as if it was too busy trying to hype itself up as something cool watch instead of actually -being- something cool to watch.

I guess on some level I got some fleeting entertainment from it. But even as someone who generally loves anime/manga/comics of all kinds this movie is going to be quickly forgotten as a footnote to something that could have been so much better.

Sucker Punch may end up making a ton of money, but that still might not make it a good movie.

In the few years I've looked at RottenTomates the ratings the site gives actually tracks pretty well with reality.
I've found pretty much whenever a movie is rated around "21%" is actually is a roughly 21% "good" movie.

If that's a case of "going with the flow" or "group-think" then I willing to accept it as such.

This is why I pay more attention to RottenTomaotes.com as a review site. It doesn't just represent the opinions of one reviewer or a few reviewers. It brings together the opinions of 100s of reviewers from around the world to get a better overall feel for a movie. Sure if just one critic says X, Y or Z about a movie you can only trust that so far. But if you have dozens of reviewers all saying the same things then, yeah, that seems a little more credible to me.

Sadly in this particular case there are many dozens of reviewers who panning this movie. As I said before I'll probably see it anyway, but at least now my expectations are appropriately set very low for it.

P.S. Its score has dropped from 23% to 21% in just the last few hours.

I honestly don't really care which of either sides you like or dislike. You certainly don't have to defend your position on it to the likes of me.

I basically just get tired whenever I see anyone bash one side in favor of another, regardless of which side is being bashed. As I just implied in my last post I see the pros and cons of both sides so I guess it just annoys me to see people generally less open-minded about it than that.

Like whatever part of the game you want. But your likes don't really depend on you having to openly tear down the other parts you don't like. *shrugs*

At this point I've probably played both sides many more hundreds of hours than I'd care to count. That's why I always think it's funny whenever a "side-zealot" (my name for a person who seems to love everything about one side and hates everything about the other) posts their one-sided views in this forum.

the travel is still awful (but has improved), there is still only ONE way to reach PI without ouro or vanguard and only TWO ways to get to striga, not to mention the dozen other hazard zones which have 0 direct travel too and usually are wastelands (such as boomtown)

hero tfs (with some exceptions) are overall snooze fests, heck even the new posi and STF are more boring than most of the villain equivalents

hero contact arcs overall suck, they are laden with hunts and simul-click glowies (i absolutely despise simul-click glowies), the only half decent arcs in the game were the ones involving the praetorians (tina macintyre and maria jenkins) because they are laden with AVs

well that ended up being a little more of a rant than i expected, but as you can tell, i generally dislike heroside and avoid it as much as possible
Every time I see someone rant about how much better the redside is versus the blueside I like to substitute the "Wright Flyer" for the blueside and a "F-16 fighter jet" for the redside and just marvel at how blatantly obvious and pointless the rant really is.

The Devs who made the redside had the advantage of learning from all the mistakes and pitfalls the original blueside made. Of COURSE it's going to be better than the blueside in many ways. A person ranting about it is like a person trying to convince someone else that a F-16 fighter jet is a much better aircraft than the Wright Flyer for dozens of reasons and coming off like they think they might LOSE that argument... it just boggles my mind.

If you're going to choose a point to debate about at least choose a subject that hasn't already practically proven itself by default.

Yes, yes that's all well and good. But how do these pants-kittens factor into getting us I20 ASAP?

P.S. For what it's worth my current guess is that I20 will come more like around the end of April to coincide with the 7th anniversary of the game. I figure we have another week or two of the current pseudo-open beta and then a following week or two of a 24/7 open beta. This'll likely drive it into being 3 or 4 weeks from now for launch.

Redside on Freedom really does have plenty of people, but most of the other servers I expect its pretty empty.
I'd agree that on average there are probably more "vet" players on the redside than blueside. But really if you avoid Atlas Park on the blueside you avoid 99% of the "young kids and new players" there as well.
  17. I haven't seen anything on it yet but it would be nice if they are announced at least before April 5th.

I just simply find it annoying to tolerate the unfortunate idea that the only way we're ever going to get movies based on "western comics and manga/anime" is to churn out stuff that can't stand up to typical mainstream movie criticism. After all there's no law out there that says it's illegal to have BOTH of those things together in one movie is there?

I seriously do not demand "perfection" from a movie like Sucker Punch. But is it really too much to ask that more reviewers like it than hate it at the very least? I'm not asking for the Moon here am I?

To answer the original question posed by this thread the only technical reason to have more than one badger is if you want to make sure you have all the badges in the game covered.

In the old days (pre I18) the main reason many people had "one hero and one villain" badger was to make sure you had all the red-only and blue-only badges. Now that people can crossover the whole redside/blueside badge thing is no longer an issue. But because Praetoria still prevents Primals access to 4 of its badges there's still a reason to have at least two badging characters. Obviously that reason is far less important than it used to be and there's always a chance that sometime in the future even those last 4 badges will be earnable by Primals in some form. But until that happens (and as of this moment there's really no absolute guarantee that it will) those 4 Praetorian badges are out there.

Like I said earlier all I've done is create a Praetorian who has those 4 unique-to-Praetoria badges. I actually don't seriously intend to get any other badges on that character - it's just acting as a placeholder to have those 4 badges accounted for as far as all my characters are concerned. If I can eventually get those last 4 badges on my main Primal badger then all's the better.

I never let the "hardwired to be an Arachnos Lackey" thing absolutely stop me from playing redside, but I must admit that the "mindset" for how the redside is organized along those lines has always annoyed me to some degree. It led to things like the limited Patron Pool powers and just made me constantly have to remind myself that regardless of what the mission text was saying I was still playing my OWN characters, not Arachnos clones.

Turns out the idea of a game "forcing" me to follow the path of becoming a junior version of the game's canon characters is one of the main reasons I didn't even bother trying DCUO. That game took the "become an Arachnos Lackey" concept and put it on overdrive.

It's kind of interesting how they seem to maneuvering the TRON story into the same kind of grand plotline that Lucas developed for the overall Star Wars saga.

With the two TRON movies we now have a "before" story, a gap of like 20 years where new stories can be generated, and a "final" story. Like Star Wars it seems like they are going to explore the 20ish year gap to explain how things got from the "before" story to the "final" story.

Frankly I'm more interested in the animation series that deals with that "gap" between the two main story areas than a sequel that goes farther in the future than Tron:Legacy.

Much like red and bluesiders getting crossovers I also guessed that Primals would eventually have access to Praetoria back well before Issue 18 went live. That has now come to pass (since Issue 19) but Primals still CAN'T get the following badges:

    Moral High Ground
    Resistance Member
    Loyalist
    Avid Reader

If you know why that's the case or know for certain that will actually change with 100% certainty some time in the future then by all means let us know.

The simple fact is that as of today you need at least two badgers to have all the badges in the game. I'm not seeing how my simple ability to prove that obvious fact to you is "passive aggressiveness" on my part but if you want to be upset by this situation like that I'm not going to stop you.
  23. [NOTE: This is a necropost but since Sucker Punch is opening in theaters today I figured this thread is more relevant now than ever.]

Well as I sadly feared Sucker Punch is getting pummeled by the critics. RottenTomatoes has it rated at 23% as of the time I'm writing this post. Even the few "positive" reviews are less than flattering. I'm still probably going to go see it for the "cool visuals on a big screen" factor. But so much for the vague hope that there'd be an actual story/plot behind the pretty pictures. *shrugs*
  24. It'll be cool to see this kind of thing... in something like CoH2.

In all seriousness while it would be nice to have I really don't see it ever being shoe-horned into this game, even in specialized mayhem missions. Even in newer games like CO the idea doesn't really "work" too well. I think games in the future will be more able to offer "natural environments" that super-powered players can toss around at will. I just don't think cutting edge MMO technology is quite ready for it yet.
