Merging the servers may or may not address the market abusers. Until the problem players are dealt with, it's generally going to be less time-consuming for the casual player to keep doing what they've been doing: running AE, Ouro, and Task Forces for what they want.
I was referring to the atrocious state at which the market is currently in. What do I mean by that? Well as others have already stated the almost complete drought on red side for every item from the most common salvage to the most rare IO. I mean at one point a year or two ago a common lvl 50 accuracy IO was about 200,000 infamy and today it's in some cases ranging from 700 to 1 million. Blue side while not suffering from the same lack of supply that red side does has nonetheless felt the pinch in the sense that prices have increased there as well. I mean when I checked the market a long while back you could get a damage Hecatomb for 300-500 million. Now they are hovering at a BILLION for some of them.

Will the market merger help to deflate prices? I don't know but I'm hopeful. However with the system being the way it has been so long there is no way of really knowing how it will react.

I like how you put that caveat in there of 'some time' lol Yeah it only took several YEARS and hundreds of posts by far smarter posters than I that understand math and complex systems that it was a good thing. I'm just hoping it's not to late to salvage a very broken system with this revelation.
  3. Quick question. How can I test to see whether there is something wrong with my ethernet card/port on my computer? I think my Ethernet port might be going up or something. The ethernet connection light on my cable modem keeps flickering and I'm dropping internet connection sometimes for like an hour or two and then BOOM it magically comes back. The ethernet light constantly flickers (is it suppose to do that showing you it's working?) and the DS light goes solid green but then the US light blinks and finally stops. Then the DS light starts blinking but goes solid green again and the US light once again starts to flash but won't go solid. Now here is the weird thing though. When I get internet back the US light goes solid green but the DS light goes red but I get the internet back? How is that possible... shouldn't a red light mean it's not working?

I turned in my old cable modem to Comcast and got a new one yesterday but it's doing the same thing. Usually around 12pm every day my internet goes out and then around 3-3:30pm it will magically come back. They are sending a technician out Monday but that won't help me if my Ethernet connection is bad or going up. So is there any way I can test my ethernet connection using a programme or something that shows what kind of signal strength I'm getting? If worse comes to worse my ethernet port that is hardwired into the mobo might be going up in which case I'll have to buy an actual network card and install it. I just think it's weird that I lose it for an hour or two a day and then it magically comes back even though the modem shows there is a problem. I replaced the cables leading from the wall and the computer to the modem as well and the same problem so it can't be the modem or the connections.

In essence, the subplot (the flash-sideways) was just another form of a flash-forward. We were seeing what will happen (from the vantage point of the main narrative). Eventually all these characters will go to that place and be reunited. But they all will lead different lives until that point.
Oh I see so everybody basically got a preview of where they are all going to end up together. But each individual person will take their own path getting their.
  6. Wow. I haven't watched Lost so I'll admit I'm not getting most of what everyone is saying. But if I have picked up anything from your conversations then it sounds like to me that the writers of Lost ripped off the ending to Ashes to Ashes LOL

On Friday of this week the series Ashes to Ashes ended on the BBC. Ashes to Ashes was the continuation of the original series Life on Mars with John Simm and Philip Glenister. The last episode this Friday finally 'revealed all' about Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister's character) and just what was going on with the show. The series of AtA started with a police woman Alexis Drake being shot in the head by a criminal and when she woke up she was in 1980. Inside her dream world was Gene Hunt who was also in the dream world of Life on Mars when policeman Sam Tyler was hit by a car and woke up in 1973. Both series revolved around the main characters Sam in Life on Mars and Alex in Ashes to Ashes finding out where or when they were and how to get home.

This Friday we learned that the entire world both Sam and Alex inhabited was the constructed dream world/reality of the secondary main character Gene Hunt. Gene was a police officer who died back in the 60's but refused to cross over to the next life. He felt that he could help others that were like him that were either angry with their passing or had unfinished business that prevented them from passing over to the afterlife. So Gene fashioned himself a new persona and took it upon himself to shepherd any police officers whether they be male or female in this world he constructed. He would let them play out a new life in his reality/limbo and when they got the confidence they needed or worked through the unfinished business that was holding them back then he would let them move on to the next world. Unfortunately if there is an angel in that world there is also a devil. In Life on Mars it was the 'Test Pattern Girl' and in Ashes to Ashes it was a rival Internal Affairs officer named Jim Keats. He tried to break their confidence in Gene and if he could tempt them to join his 'department' which was reached by a long elevator shaft heading DOWN with faint screams of agony ever so subtly just out of earshot.

But at the end of the episode when Gene won out and defeated Jim Keats and redeemed his team's faith in him the surprises weren't done. It turned out that Alex wasn't the only person in that reality that was from the real world. Her colleagues that worked with her in the CID (Criminal Investigations Department) were also souls of police officers that had died in life and been sent to Gene's reality. The problem was they had been there so long they had forgotten why they were there. Alex helped them with Gene to remember and in the end they finally left and 'crossed over' to the next plane. But wait it got EVEN better. Come to find out Alex who thought she was in a coma from the bullet and could go home to her little girl after she helped Gene and the rest of the team had her own truth to face up to. Come to find out the WHOLE time from the start of the show she wasn't in a coma... she was dead too. She could never go back home and be with her daughter which is what she was fighting for the whole 3 years because she was stone cold dead. Gene was reluctantly forced to get her to accept the truth and she decided to move on to to the afterlife.

Now. BBM and the rest of you guys and gals... does this sound at all familiar with the way Lost ended or somewhat?
  7. I almost have survivor's guilt. My show is still on while BBM has a show ending and I doubt Locke is going to regenerate and show up at the end and ask everyone if their ready for round 2 on the island

prior to merits the only way to get those sweet Pool C drops was run TFs. Every player who ran a TF got a roll, and I doubt many people did anything other than roll recipes.

By monetizing those rolls the devs undermined market supply in a few ways.
Some folk, like Toast, don't bother cashing their merits in. Some folk, like me, don't have the time to run the lucrative TFs are so are largely removed from the Pool C lottery. in the old days I could run a Katie now and then and get a roll, now I don't bother. Some folk who can earn merits efficiently save them up and buy the specific recipe they want, circumventing the market entirely.

I find the old system of the game generating drops efficiently and the market diseminating them efficiently much more elegant and much more fun than the current hybrid mess.
Agreed. One has to only look at the market to see how it's changed it. Just a year ago prices and availability of Pool C drops were much better. A pool C cost almost 40% or more less and far more were available for sale. Now the supply has been cut and I weep to see the sheer level of cost many of these recipes are going for. It's pathetic. That's why I'm glad I farmed the hell out of TF's and built up tons of influence and IO'd my most favourite and important toons. What cost me about 1 billion to IO my main toon (tanker) and make him a bad *** would now cost me probably twice or even close to three times.

Well from what I understand Wentworth's is failing so Paragon City is planning to take funds out of the public influence savings and buy the majourity of the auction house since it's too big to fail. Then finally we'll have decent prices through the auction system since the city government knows better than the seller on how much their items are worth and how much to ask for them.

I'm with you there. About 3 or 4 years ago I actually wrote a 4 or 5 page post about a Zig TF that would be 10 missions long and went through every area of the prison and had some great stories and finally at the end you would face an AV final boss of Malaise who after being incarcerated in the prison was secretly being tested on by Crey and Dr. Vazhilok as a lab rat to try and increase Malaise powers and give him the ability to psionically reanimate corpses that he could control. The experiment goes wrong though and Malaise is turned into a mindless beast driven only by his baser animal instincts and mutates into a 20 foot tall brute. Everyone loved the idea and it would finally give the players something to do with this giant honking prison in the middle of the zone. Unfortunately nothing ever came of it

No your not wrong. The O_I account is one of his alt accounts. He's just trying to deflect his true identity off himself. Hell the fact that 99% of all his posts are in the PVP sections alone is an indicator of his identity. Plus this post alone sounds like something he would ask for. After all he spent millions if not billions IO'ing his 'PvP' toons only to have the PVP game radically altered so all his old tactics were no longer viable. That means those toons are now loaded with IO's and built to perform a task they can no longer do so with the new rules in place. I'm not surprised he wants to respec his entire powerset or AT since it's a lot easier than say rolling and leveling a whole new toon then respecing his old toons like 6-10 times to offload all his IO's.

Anyway I agree with basically 0% of what you've proposed. The micro-transactions we already have are iffy for me, tying in stuff that has a significant effect on actual gameplay (no, Mystical Fortune and Self-Destruct don't count) to real money would be disastrous. Expanding respecs to change your powersets would also not work for so many reasons that have been rehashed ad infinitum on these very forums. I would definitely like to see the Shard revamped in some way, but not in a paid expansion. As for an official offline character builder, there's no reason for it. We have Mid's. It's updated pretty quickly; maybe not on day 1 of a new issue, but what makes you so sure you'd get that with an official builder? I doubt it would be very high priority for the devs, as it would drain resources from the actual game.

For some reason you don't want any criticism of your ideas (going back to my first point in this post), but even if this were in the right subforum (it's not, you want Suggestions), this is the Discussion forum. Simply discussing what we perceive to be the flaws in your ideas does not equate to flaming.
What do you expect? The Optical_Illusion account belongs to Twixt and that name alone should be enough to answer all your questions. If it doesn't then just check out the Freedom server forum and you'll learn who/what he is.

Not at all. In fact several several MMO's out there already offer this feature. For instance in the game Ultima you can go to their website and not only pick what level you want to start off at but also what kind of equipment you want your toon to be outfitted with. The online store then calculates how much that toon would cost and gives you a price. If you choose to you can slap down the cash and bingo they give you the toon.

Obviously you didn't bother to read my entire post or you would have seen my answer to that question. I REALIZE that certain aspects of the TF is outdated and not in line with established canon. That's why I said the devs would only have to make a few tweaks to the TF in regards to story and dialogue and BAM. You have a new TF. For instance. While it's true Sister Psyche no longer inhabits the body of Aurora Borealis they could rewrite it thus:

Though they no longer share the same physical form there remains a strong psychic connection between Sister and Aurora since they spent so many decades together. The Circle of Thorns are well aware of this and have discovered a secret artifact the Soul orb which they can use to create a bridgehead between the demonic realm and our world. With this orb they can fuse together Aurora and Sister together again and use their superior vessel to carry the essence of the demon Ba'al. The only person who could successfully perform this ceremony is someone who's mind has both been touched and controlled by Aurora and Sister and that is the insane AV Malaise.

That way you still have essentially kept the same principle characters in the TF along with the mission souvenir of the Soul orb and the final AV of Malaise. It's the job of your TF to capture or destroy the Soul orb and defeat Malaise so that the ceremony can't be completed and you have saved both Sister Psyche and Aurora Borealis. You could also keep Calvin Scott as the TF contact since it was he who brought this calamity to your attention and is requesting your help since say the Freedom Phalanx is currently engaged in combat off world and only you and your team are available.

There you go. With just a few minutes I managed to not only maintain the mission integrity of the TF but also explained why the TF is relevant again. Maybe Paragon Studios should put me on the payroll

-Bases. This means things to do in your base as well as base raiding and Cathedral of Pain trial.

I would think that quite a few people would be interested in more content/bases/base raiding/CoP trial returning.
The problem is the devs KNOW all this but getting them to ACT on it is the never ending battle we've had with them for YEARSSSSSS. I remember the last time I actually had a physical conversation with a dev in regards to the Cathedral of Pain and the Calvin Scott TF (*see below for brief description) was way back when Ouroboros was being put in the game. I just happened to log in one morning before the servers were going to go down on the TEST server and went to the O zone. Standing there next to the pool was none other than Positron.

He explained he had gotten into the office early and was taking care of a few things before his 'day' started. We talked for a good 20 minutes and while I explained that Ouroboros was interesting and a good idea what the game really needed was more 'hard' content. That is content which actually mattered in canon and was part of the game and you were rewarded tangible benefits like an IO recipe (this was before horrible merit system), or a TF badge. I told him he had two such pieces of content just sitting and collecting dust that could have been tweaked up and put out already to add to the game in the form of the COP and the Calvin Scott TF. The Calvin Scott TF came up because back when Ouroboros first came out there was a bug that actually let you access the TF and start it. The problem was after the first mission you had to go back and 'talk' to the contact to get the next mission and Calvin had been taken out of the game by then so there was no way to continue.

I told him with just a few tweaks to the details of the Task Force all he had to do was place the Calvin Scott avatar back in the game perhaps in IP inside the hospital or something and boom. He instantly had another Task Force to add to the player content and a good TF was once again restored to active life. The same thing went for the COP. I told him that like unlike the villain SG computer the ONLY thing the blue SG computer offered was a still defunct COP trial that didn't look like it was EVER going to be fixed since base PVP was something that seemed like it was NEVER (and it still hasn't) been fixed. So I told him why not just take the COP and revamp it a little and release it (and here was the kicker) as a joint trial or TF just like the Lady Grey. This way you were adding both content to blue side and the starved red side and resurrecting dead hard work the programmer's had put into making the bloody thing.

Positron conceited that my ideas had a great deal of merit and that he would certainly consider them and see 'what he could do about it'. Whelpppppp. That was back in Issue 11 I had that conversation and here we are now on the cusp of Issue 17 and where are we..... nowhere. Both Calvin Scott and the COP sit collecting dust which is the most frustrating thing because it's content that is already DONE. It it needs is some spit and polish and it could EASILY be slipped back into the game with little fuss and bingo you've got instant player content which is finally back into the game after a long hiatus and the player base is happy 'new' content is back in the game to help fill the 'something to do that was generated by the devs' list.

Will though we ever see this happen? I HIGHLY doubt it. It's been six issues since that conversation with Posi and what I suggested could have easily been implemented since then. Why though nothing has been done about this simple fix? Now that is a question I can't answer but considering I asked for about a YEAR afterward in PM's and board queries and was never acknowledged indicates to me that those pieces of content are considered dead issues for reasons unknown or that an answer is not forthcoming because they don't wish to discuss it for some reason. Why? Who knows. But it would sure be interesting to find out why at this point.

It use to be so much easier to get when the Trial didn't level past 41 and you could bring a whole bunch of 50's along and wipe out everything and anything and get the badge as easy as pie. Then they 'fixed' it and it's now more of a pain in the *** as ever

Yeah, yeah, I know, "Get a team!" Tried. Repeatedly.
Don't feel bad man. It's been a WELL known fact that Nosferatu is probably the most powerful AV in the game in many MANY ways. I think the only one that rivals him in sheer power and the ability to basically one shot is Ghost Widow.
  24. Yeah I basically have a spare account in case I needed to pad a team or use it to fill out my personal SG base for members and therefore extra prestige and if I needed to transfer items and cash from one toon to another. I never trusted anyone to help me transfer because the sums I'm talking about were FAR too large and tempting to trust with anyone else. I prefer to count on myself.
