I grudgingly took teleport with an eye toward only using it as a last resort. I am a big fan of Hurdle/CJ/SJ and have that on basically all other toons I can think of besides maybe two.
I have come to find it quite valuable and workable now. I had been turning Rooted on and off quite a bit to run around, but this was getting more and more dangerous. I actually faceplanted on a couple of missions where I got mezzed and killed (damn Council caves!). I finally started to embrace teleport more as I got more comfortable with it.
The bind setup makes it painless to use and I have gotten used to it now that I have been using it a lot more with Granite up. I use it a lot of for my long travel with a Jaunt range/end in it and it's pretty fast and easy using the mouse bind.
I would recommend you look at it since the other options don't work at all with Granite.

Thanks for your thoughts on the recharge. I am looking at my build wondering if it's worth it or whether I would be better off getting a little damage out of the slot.
I believe the mag of the Knockback in Fault is only .67 which results in all knockdown for opponents hit, so that shouldn't be a problem.
I was wondering if anyone had tried using a damage proc in Fault versus the +recharge from Force Feedback proc, which only last 5 seconds if it does happen to fire on one of the foes in range.
Cheers -
Hi All,
Working on my currrent tank project - Stone/Stone - and was fooling around with different options for the 6th slot in Fault.
Does the recharge PROC from Force Feedback hit often enough in something like Fault to make it worthwhile over some like a Zinger psi proc or even the Explosive Strike smashing proc?
I know that more recharge is better for a Stoner, but given the short duration and small %chance, would it be better overall to get a little occasional damage out of it? Anyone have experience with this and what the results in actual play felt like?
Thanks in advance for the thoughts,
Cheers -
Hey LSK,
Thanks for posting your build. There are things I like about it. As I mentioned, I do quite a bit of duo and small team tanking, so I am not in Granite all the time.
If I am facing heavy Psi attacks, I am not going to be in Granite at all, preferring to go with my Rock/Crystal/Minerals setup which has me over the soft cap for both S/L and Psi and 43% on EN/NE.
I was just posting an alternative build for the OP to consider, if he decided he didn't want to go Perma-granite.
And as far as having too much defense - I thought was something we could never have enough of? I like you - but you crazy *wink*.

Quote:Short answer: it's the Dual Pistols of Brutes. It's pretty, flashy, and under-performing. The long animation times make it a pain to build Fury and the fact that it relies on a Siphon Power style damage buff power to make up for mediocre DPS really hurts on a Brute since they get less out of damage buffs than other ATs due to low base damage. But it is really cool looking...
I'd recommend a Scrapper or Tank instead... Scrappers can make much better use of the damage buff and Tanks don't care as much about how hard they hit.
I would echo this comment. I ran it on a brute paried with Elec armor and it felt a little undewhelming but visually very cool. I think it end up being middle of the pack depending on how it is built - I doubt it will ever be high end for a brute becuase the animation times do seem to slow down the fury bar. I'm no brute expert by any means but I think it will be a better tank set with the mix of ST and AoE and some damage boost from Siphon Power and the new Bruising inherent. Not sure it will compete real well as a top scrapper set but I could be wrong.

Here is my planned build for my current project which is a Stone/Stone tank. It's a little on the expensive side but the LOTG +7.5s probably will come down in price after the market merge.
I duo with the wife quite a bit and do some small team, so I built around non-granite viability as well as a nice Granite setup. It's capped for S/L defense outside of granite.
I am using Ninja Run as a short run travel power and also created a mouse bind for teleport for across zone travel which works well. Plenty of run speed bonus helps a bunch too.
Anyway, hope this gives you some thoughts.
Cheers

Quote:Oh, I don't plan on diving into the PvP IOs or anything. It just makes it possible for me to afford to get Posi Blast instead of Detonation if I want to and that sort of thing. If you have alts, then 2 bill won't buy you more than a couple of builds and depending, might not be enough for even 1 IO.
I'd roll 'em all. That's just me. I roll mine as soon as I have 20 no matter what level.
I'm just happy to be out of my shanty, so I'm not looking to move into a mansion anytime soon.
I have quite a few alts and I have rebuilt a couple so far and kept it under 1 billion total.
Thanks for the thoughts,
Cheers -
Quote:Unfortunately, I would say 80% are held at level 50. My problem has never been 'not spending' for sure. I need to roll some I think and see what happens. Are they level 50 or are they below that?
My personal hobbyhorse [ok, one of them] is that there isn't enough supply at levels below max. So if you're under level 42 or so, I'd say roll 'em . Level 50, roll or pick as you see fit. Don't spend 'em all at once, though...
Kinetic Combat Dam/End and the triple are just so hard to come by these days, and I know I need to grab a couple of those for my new Stone tank project which is maturing quickly. I also need a couple of LoTG +7.5s for that build too, so I may dip into them a little here soon. Although, that toon is only lvl31 and already has 330 or so.
Cheers -
Just as a hypothetical.
Imagine some player (being a miserly, conservative type) had amassed about 6,000 merits across a number of toons. Never spent one in however they have been around.
Given that this player may have read a guide and made 2-3 billion inf a few weeks (thanks Fury Flechette!) and now was able to take care of his/her IO set needs without dipping much into merits.
Simple question: what would you do with all those merits?
Cheers -
Quote:Well, I am very grateful and the only regret I have now is that I wish I would have listened sooner and taken a little risk. I was grinding on those commons so long I remember feeling like "100 mill is a lot and it took me 3 months to earn it. I don't want to chance blowing that." Now I make that in a couple of nights during the week or maybe one night on the weekends.
Wow, stuff like this embarrasses the cr*p out of me. I'm highly flattered though that you think so highly my work. Thanks.
Anyone that reads these threads and it on the fence should take the advice and just TRY. Set aside say 5 million and just TRY. I did and I am very glad I did. I gave away 50 mill the other night to a buddy who doesn't do it and got him all interested. I think he will take the plunge now too.
Anyway, thanks and happy marketing.
Cheers -
I am with you Sir_Lionheart.
I too stumbled upon Fury Flechette's guide on Day 2 or 3 of his project. I recalled the name from years ago when he was offering to make builds for people sometime around I6 or so (long time anyway).
I think that was about six weeks ago now, because I immediately set out to try my hand at what he was saying.
For two years, I had been crafting memorized commons in a couple of niches making about 2 million per night. I was content because, in time it was enough to keep my new toons with some inf and decent if not high level builds. I rarely had time to farm as I only play about 3 nights per week for a couple of hours. Add to this the fact that I was too risk averse to seriously put my nest egg in jeapordy and I was being far, far too conservative for a very long time.
I finally had put together probably 400 mill liquid and saw his project and threw caution to the wind. I dove in head first those six weeks ago with a toon that had about 5 million inf on him. Now, about 3 billion inf later, I am on to my second 'truly Ebil' marketing toon (after hitting the cap on my first one) and can gleefully sing the praises of what you guys have probably been preaching for literally years. I am trying not to pound my head into the wall for what I was NOT making in the same amount of time grinding out commons for almost two years - just enjoying the new experience and being able to IO out some toons at a different level opens up the game some.
I feel like I am a testimonial blurb on some infomercial, heh. However, this approach works at a level I never though possible and I am still not really playing in the deep end of the pool at all, just the middle and low end.
EDIT: Forgot to say I had some of the same questions as Sir_L about how long to let something sit before relisting and so on. I had developed a little bit of a sense for how long I am willing to let something take up a slot (and it varies based on what it is), but it's nice to have some perspective on those.
Anyway, many thanks to Fury and the other Ebils who are generally encouraging folks in this forum who I now wish I would have risked taking their advice sooner.
Cheers

My Fire/Fire/Earth (Quick Sand--Burn spec) tank with has about 300 mill in him clears the Disrupt Portals-Axis America set for +1/x8 in about 26-28 minutes.
My Shield/Elec tank isn't quite as expensive a build, but runs Hasten and has a few IOs in it can nearly equal that, maybe a minute or 2 slower.
My fire/kin clears it in about 16-18 minutes if I am really working it and not chatting with friends, and so on.
I prefer to make inf through playing the market but occasionally its fun to go make a run on this or Harvey's demon farm.
After playing through all the TFs and a number of arcs with my friend on this BS/SD scrapper, it is clear that SC needs some kind of adjustment. Most times he was leveling the entire spawns save a Lt here and there with a sliver of health left and bosses down to 1/3. We had a kin defender with us in our team of regulars and SC was back up for basically every spawn. It NEEDS an adjustment in my opinion - example: the MA scrapper with us basically had nearly nothing to contribute and would lament maybe getting 2 attacks in each spawn.

One of your key decision points for your build is what pools you will want to dip into to support your goals. One common path has been to use the Medicine pool for Aid Self. Here is a generally decent Everyman build (mid-priced but hitting most of the basics) for using Medicine Pool that may give you some ideas:

A second and quite popular path has been dipping into the Fighting Pool for Tough and Weave, for added defense and a place to house the Steadfast Res/Def enhancement and some added mitigation. Again, there are builds floating around but here is a decent mid-level build using Fighting Pool.

Here is an alternative build that I am playing on my BS/Regen. I try to build a little more for 'everyman' and I lack two of the LoTG +7.5s but otherwise this is complete and I find it very playable. Maybe not quite as expensive as the one piece of Gaussian's has been ridiculously priced lately and the Oblit quads have been hard to come by as well.
Cheers

I like that build as it has some similarities to my own. I like how much recharge you are getting there, that's very nice. I wish I had all those LoTG +rech lying around. Anyway, I just got done with with doing a STF with my D3 the other night and realized how much I liked playing him. Anyway, here is a comparison build that focuses less on recharge and a little more on defense while still being more a common budget range.
Cheers

I will jump in here rather than make another thread, so I wonder if folks would look at this build for me.
My team of regulars wants me to run a Stone/ tank and I have never run Stone Melee either so I am looking at making a new Stone/Stone tank. One of regulars has volunteered the Kinetics role so I *should* have a Kin with me most of the time (but you never know).
We're all PvE and mainly use the TFs to level as we go to build merits, ending with the showdown with Lord Recluse on STF. I should be in granite a lot of the time, but I would still like some versatility outside of Granite so I am using the other armors with an eye on suviving and less on damage. It's team oriented for 4-8 regulars that needs to be a damage/aggro sponge, with a moderate budget.
Cheers

Kinrad,
How about something like this build:
Slots up Boxing for your low-level plink-plink attacks and allows you to save your Energy Transfer if/when you really need it or want to use it. I doubt you will notive the 3-4% loss of fire resist from Permafrost.
Cheers

Quote:This is right on the money IMO. There is a lot of debuff in the game today and it is great for an Icer to comfortably above the cap in the middle of a fight so that a RNG-shot that gets through followed by a streakbreaker doesn't send you down the cascade of fail. See the end of Tina McIntyre's arc for examples of this with those damn robots. Cimeroran soldiers are another example. Huge spawns of Council can do it to a lesser extent as well. Getting yourself to 55% to 60% after an application of EA can make the difference between survival and faceplanting in those kinds of nasty situations. While you are going to be softcapped, the great benefit of EA's defense is twofold. You'll be adding nearly 10% defense to all but psi. This goes to help with your fire weakness (even if small) and gives you some wiggle room for -def debuffs. While you have high resist to the debuff, leaving more defense to have to eat through allows you to avoid cascading def issues. Very helpful.
I frankenslot all my Ice/ tanks to hit near ED cap def, rech and end mod. I never regret it, either.
(that's nearly 10% defense AFTER slotting)
It's a great use of slots, really.

I would second the notion of Elec/SD or Fire/SD scrappers. Another one to consider would be a Spines/Elec or Spines/Dark scrapper. This would play very differently than the /SD monsters but would ber very fun once you got some defense in the build. You could also build a high recharge build in either case (is you have the cash) that would be a blast to play as well.
I have about 35% def on my Spines/Dark which uses a lawnmower build and it's just a joy to play.
Fire/Fire blaster of course would be up high on the list of AoE monster toons as well. Aim+BU...Fireball, RoF...Fire Sword Circle, Combustion...would anything be alive?
For more of an in-your-face, guerilla blapper a Rad/Fire blaster built for S/L defense would be an awesome AoE toon as well, with all the PBAoEs and short, wide cones doing exotic damage types. Like to have 6 AoEs by level 26....(soup du jour??) hmmm that sounds good, I think I'll have that.
Cheers -
Sure thing Kinrad. You could work the slotting on that to get almost all the def bonus in by level 34 slotting, so it should do fairly well exemping down.
I have a couple of alternative builds that grab an AoE in the EPIC pools as well. I also found myself skipping Permafrost in order to get Fireball on my Ice/Fire - that may help your overall AoE potential on EM as well.
If you are set on Energy EPIC, I also had an alternative which uses Torrent - Torrent kind of gets a bad rap for the KB, but it hits basically as hard as Whirling Hands does but in only in a (decent) cone.
Cheers -
Hey Kinrad,
Here is a quick build that preserves most of the powers you were interested in while soft-capping to S/L/E/N without Weave. Once I was soft-capped on my Ice/Fire I eventually respecced out of Hibernate because I found I never used it.
I always try to keep the 'everyday' average player in mind with builds that don't break the bank for various reasons. You could clearly upgrade later with uniques in health, go to a LoTG in place of the Serendipity, Kin Combats for the Smaching Haymaker and so on, but I bet you find you don't need them.
Cheers

Quote:....That said, if you run on x8 all the time, which I do, footstomp, no matter how fast it recycles, will not mitigate enough damage.
This was my experience with my Dark/SS tank. I was cycling FS pretty fast, but my build really took off when I started adding defense. Right now, it sits at just under 40% S/L defense and with Dark Regen cycling every 14-15 seconds - the guy might be my most survivable tank for all game foes and situations.
I'm just a 'build for defense' guy now on all my melee toons now, but the OP's awesome recharge build reminds me of an earlier build on my Fire/Fire tank which definitely played a guerrilla, kill-them-first style which was fun and different. I like this kind of thinking because makes me pause and check it out on some of my own toons. I appreciate the OP's effort and like different things, because I am a fan of 'different,' even if some folks come along and prove it to be 'not the best' or something. It looks like it could be a very fun build and that means a lot to me in the game.
Cheers -
I'll reply to say I really like the build. Perma-Hasten and contant Energize to the tune of 409% regen, Powersink up every spawn. I think it's a great high-recharge build.
I went a different route in my plan for my Elec/Stone. He is level 23 and my plan is going to be to build for defense (plan calls for 41% S/L def) first then pick up some recharge (46% I think on top of Hasten) on a budget. I will play around a little because this may change the way I look at my own plan given the similarities of Stone and SS.
Cheers
