Rose Star and Spark Blade don't appear anywhere, though I guess it's possible the Devs made up models for them for "City of Hero" at some stage and just haven't had a chance to add them to the western game at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
western game? You mean that CoH in Korea differs much from the one we play in? Or is it like zukunft and vigilance?
[/ QUOTE ]
I recall hearing it was going to be the same world with some tweaks - remember, the Korean version never got out of beta (was due to launch Jan 2006, but was cancelled) - they'd have had to localise all the mission text and in-game text anyway, so it's possible they tweaked other things too to make the game suit the Korean market better.
W.I.S.D.O.M. seems pretty much invented purely for "City of Hero" as an Asian version of the Freedom Phalanx - it's probable they were going to appear in the game too, hence why the models were originally made, Also: CoV launch = Oct 2005, "City of Hero" cancelled = Jan 2006, I7 = Jun 2006, - all very close on timing - they probably didn't want to waste stuff that had already been created for the Korean version, hence introducing Foreshadow and Mirror Spirit to the game in I7. -

Castle didn't say flat out that blasters would never get an MA type secondary, just that it's not something they are considering at the moment.
[ QUOTE ]
While Dual Pistols is something we've got on the books as something to do at some point in the future, Martial Arts as a Blaster Secondary has never been discussed or designed. Is it possible? Sure. There are a whole lot of other powersets in front of it in the queue, however.
[/ QUOTE ]
[/ QUOTE ]
True - considering how long it takes to get through the queue it might as well be never, though -

For some odd reason, I find myself liking Boomtown alot
[/ QUOTE ]
I like the look of the place, there's just not a lot of reason to go there.
It needs to be revamped into a co-op zone, with Reichsman as the big threat in the final TF (he's supposedly still imprisoned in stasis in the vaults of the old pre-Rikti War Freedom Phalanx base in Boomtown) -
[ QUOTE ]
But dont you think higher leveled players doing higher elvel content will go to Talos anyway, since its easier access and not be in Atlas regardless.
[/ QUOTE ]
GG has a newbie bias - she thinks we should all be adopting newbies
Personally when I log into a new MMO and someone immediately singles me out and starts asking if there's anything I need then sure, it's nice I guess, but it also freaks me out a bit - but then I am a bit of a cynic so my first thought is to wonder what their angle is, what they want from me, and why they can't leave me the heck alone to work out the game myself because that's one of the most fun times in an MMO for me -
[ QUOTE ]
Of course I might be just as sated to see archery and trick arrow proliferated to corrupters - we shall see
[/ QUOTE ]
That's what I'm waiting for - and it's probably the reason you won't see an Archery secondary for blasters ever.
Col-Blitz, the Devs have flat out said that Dominators won't get an MA-based secondary so it's even more unlikely for Blasters (who have plenty of secondaries without a melee bias) - unless you're doing it purely for fun I think you guys would be wasting your time coming up with a blaster MA secondary.
Tbh I'd be happier with a Device-like secondary that had a couple of normal punches and maybe a kick in it (though you could do that now with admittedly sub-par pool powers - good enough for a concept build at least) - that could work thematically for Tech/Natural characters with AR/Archery as primary.
And no, still no Rikti Rifle for MMs - my Bot/Dark has the Watchman accolade and he just has the Rikti Blaster option. He has Infiltrator too, so has both Crey pistol/blaster and rifle - I do wonder if the fact Crey got a rifle and a blaster/pistol has made people think Rikti accolade would grant two weapons as well - or have the Devs actually confirmed a Rikti Rifle option? (I don't recall seeing that and I check Dev Tracker most days). -

In Guild Wars you can have a "communal chest" where you can put your goodies in there and any of your toons can access them
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, like the account-shared bank slots that several MMOs like EQ2 also have.
I can understand the Devs not wanting to allow mailing of recipes/salvage around, because that would be a boon to inf-farming services (I recall mail restrictions being added to WoW when I played it to combat gold farmers) - but an account-shared area in storage for recipes/salvage/inf would be a boon.
You can already share enhancements, insps and base salvage around if you have base storage - but sometimes you know you have some unused rare invention salvage in a vault on one character that are needed for a recipe on another character - those are the times I have to get a friend to move one of them across, but it would be so much easier with a shared storage unit that would let me move recipes and/or salvage between characters without inconveniencing a friend. -
[ QUOTE ]
Sounds like farmers heaven.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah because slowing farmers down at getting the loot they're going to get anyway is more important than a QoL feature that could make the game more enjoyable for most of the playerbase...
If you think farmers aren't going to abuse player-generated content you're kidding yourself - is that a reason the Devs shouldn't add that? Or should you stop caring about how others play and focus on what would make the game more fun for you or for non-farmers? Also with customisable difficulty at least the farmers could farm on their lonesome without hassling players who aren't interested to fill for them.
Some archetypes/powersets are set up for single target, others for area attacks; some for weathering/controlling lots of weak mobs, others for taking on tougher small spawns. Some team-built characters struggle when they need/want to solo. Why not let them set up difficulty to match what they're built for?
Heck, if nothing else just let us add a boss to each spawn if we so choose - my stalker can one-shot minions/lieuts and I want more challenge than that - atm I'm being forced outdoors to find boss-heavy spawns as missions are a yawnsome walkover (and pretty poor xp/inf compared to outdoors). Ironically if he had more 1 boss + 1-2 minion spawns in missions (or, best of all, double-boss spawns) instead of 1-2 lieuts and 2-4 minions per spawn, on average he'd be getting less chances at salvage/recipe drops per spawn, not more. -
This topic has been responsible for me trying to tick off many of the things I hadn't done before - so far I've managed half of Mako's patron arcs and the 3 Ouro TFs I hadn't done (Twilight's Son, Silos-CoH, Silos-CoV), though I foresee a lot of TFs this weekend

What do those mirrors actually... do?
[/ QUOTE ]
They look cool and awesome - do they need to do anything else?
ParagonWiki reckons she's an Emp/Energy Defender and the shields add resist or defence (but they're not sure). Tbh once you actually find where she's teleported to she usually gets defeated so fast (because you have Ice Mistral helping you) that it's hard to tell what Mirror Spirit does or is.
Also I've only fought her twice (once as AV, once as EB) - all I really remember is that she looked cool. -
Short but sweet - good to see CoH getting some more exposure.
And those subs numbers have to be worldwide - wasn't it announced that the combined game peaked at 220k subs (EU+US combined) in I6 after CoV launch? (The data here suggests 200k but may not be wholly accurate, but the trends seem to match). Based on forum activity and in-game numbers we certainly haven't got more people around now on the EU servers than we did back in I6 (though I can't speak for US servers).
If CoH/CoV ever broke the 300k and 500k subscriber barriers (300k being a big announcement point in the old EQ/UO/SWG days, and 500k being the big target pre-WoW that EQ just failed to achieve) I think NCSoft would be crowing about it in a press release. -

Looking forward to pummeling Foreshadow on my Brute "soon"
[/ QUOTE ]
Easy enough solo as an EB for a brute, but if you do Foreshadow in a full team take some yellows or make sure the team has some ToHit buffs - I recall doing Foreshadow in a full team back in I7 and he spent half the time Eluded, regenerating all the damage we'd done at a crazy rate as the debuffer couldn't land his -regen debuff. As Foreshadow is /SR he may even get the scaling resist at low health like /SR players - it certainly took us a long time to kill him after we'd got his health low quite quickly.
Mirror Spirit looks much more unique/cool, especially with her mirror shields, but I don't recall her being that tough as AV or EB - just annoying as she teleports around a bit. -
[ QUOTE ]
I really like the bridge too, but I think the zone's too big.
What I'd like to see them do is retcon it a bit, and make the whole southen end be Terra Volta, so it'd match the size of the actual Terra Volta zone - it'd be a double zone, like Faultline and the reservoir, with the dam dividing them.
Making Terra Volta the southern end of IP would help tighten the focus of IP, and make Terra Volta much more integrated.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well Faultline can get annoying when police bands keep sending you to opposite sides of the dam (which is why I don't do them there anymore). Terra Volta being the entire southern half of IP yet still a separate zone would have been more sensible, but it's a bit late now.
IP is big, but at least heroes can mostly avoid it - 10 levels at most and sane people pick Talos instead. Villains can't say the same for Nerva, "only" 2.5miles long instead of 3miles like IP, but it feels bigger because in potentially 15 levels there (L25-40) you'll go up and down the zone full-length so many times. IP's train, most contacts and base TP are close together on one side near the middle and my mission doors were always north of that (less than a mile away); in Nerva the ferry, base TP and most contacts are on the southernmost islands (Crimson Cove) yet their missions often send you 2+ miles north, often to Primeva which can be a pain to negotiate with some travel powers.
Ahh I'm probably just bitter as my Crab Spider is L35 now, has already been in Nerva 10 levels, and only has CJ+2-slot-Hurdle as his travel powerAdmittedly the stores in Nerva aren't quite as scattered as they are in IP (still further apart than they are in Talos, though - and they're all far south apart from one non-origin store, which can be a pain if you're on Primeva and want to sell to an origin store) and the contacts there don't send you to other zones that often and give better-written missions - as you'd know if you'd ever played a villain, GG
And at least Tech Naylor in Nerva is a gift - deep in darkest Primeva, but 95% of his missions have the mission door a few yards from where he's standing -
[ QUOTE ]
I've only ever petitioned once, when a friend of mine fell through a hole in an Arachnos map and she couldn't get out - the GM came in less than 10 minutes and fixed it.
[/ QUOTE ]
When I used to get that on the Arachnos cave maps (where it was rather common) I just logged out and back in (if there was nobody in team who could recall me) - much faster than waiting for a GM - saves their time, and the time you save can partly be spent on a /bug report. -
You mean an extra difficulty level of reputation?
If they do add another then the next/sixth one would have to have the same AV and level settings as Invincible/Relentless, just with extra large spawns (i.e. spawned as if the team had an extra player) - just like the 2nd and 4th difficulties have larger spawns.
If you want a 7th and 8th difficulty after that then it could have an extra +1 level over and above Invincible/Relentless, so you could get L54 mobs in missions - then you start getting deeper into purple patch where your powers do far less damage and miss more often and enemies do more damage and are harder to hit (mobs on mothership raid are mostly L54, for comparison).
Personally I wish they'd just change it so instead of reputation you could actually pick the levels of the mobs you want, whether bosses will spawn, whether AVs will spawn, and how big spawns will be - then everyone could tweak it exactly to suit their character (e.g. stalker or single-target blaster might want more bosses, brute or AE blaster might want tons of minions/lieuts, etc.). -
[ QUOTE ]
Mirror spirit is the trainer in faultline. and had foreshadow been given the hollows? i think.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah Foreshadow is The Hollows trainer now. Plus villains have been able to fight both Mirror Spirit and Foreshadow on Scirocco's second patron arc since I7. That's probably why they've been added recently as trainers - they were the two signature heroes whose models were already in the game, but were not already trainers or TF contacts, so it was probably easy enough.
Rose Star and Spark Blade don't appear anywhere, though I guess it's possible the Devs made up models for them for "City of Hero" at some stage and just haven't had a chance to add them to the western game at all. -
[ QUOTE ]
So it has to be Striga. Its the best laid out hero zone, and a base inside a volcano with a giant robot being built to take over the world? Surely that's the sort of thing the game should be about
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah Striga would have been my choice (volcano bases ftw!) if I didn't like suspension bridges so much - I don't know why, maybe it was being driven over the Severn Bridge so many times as a kid and being in awe of its size. When I lived in the UK a few years ago I actually drove a 150mile round trip just to go see the Humber Bridge and drive over it. -
[ QUOTE ]
You know what the radius of Oil Slick is? 25 feet. You know what the radius of burn is? 8 feet. You know what the radius of Ice Patch is? 10 feet.
In addition, Oil Slick does 50% more damage than Burn.
[/ QUOTE ]
Those things could be nerfed down for a blaster version though - the OP just needs to change the name and mention that, so it's more of a relationship like Ice Patch (Tanker/Blaster) has with Ice Slick (Controller/Dominator).
Though tbh it still doesn't look like a set I'd want to play, even if it had a full version Oil Slick Arrow - as most players who'd take it would have Archery/ primary it's not going to be in any danger of replacing Rain of Arrows (though I guess they could be alternated on spawns - even with lots of +rchg my RoA isn't up for every spawn).
Though Devs have already said a MA + ranged weapon secondary for Doms is unlikely, though, so it's not like this powerset would ever happen for blasters anyway. -
[ QUOTE ]
Would it really be that scary a prospect in the hands of a blaster?
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe not - it could be the final reward for enduring the redraw hell that the rest of the secondary would be. Somewhat like Dom /psi secondary gets PSW at 38 as reward for enduring most of the lacklustre powers before then. -
[ QUOTE ]
We lose Superjump (To possibly another element?) but gain several new interesting tricks and powers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well Fly should be in an "Air" pool (which could also have the electric attacks), then you could have a "Gravity" pool which could have a Super Jump type power as well as a Propel-style ranged attack - or just have a "Gadget" pool which had an "anti-grav belt" power that granted SJ, along with some other gadgets (Taser as ranged attack?).
These pools would have to be very careful not to step on the toes of any main powerset though. -
[ QUOTE ]
it dose? Never new that and i've been playing dark based alts for a ages.
[/ QUOTE ]
A lot of the tooltips are wrong - look at the real numbers in the delves for each power and you'll see.
[ QUOTE ]
Im not sure how -perseption works in pve it could have a small chance of confusing the target
[/ QUOTE ]
Well it doesn't do that. But it doesn't work the same way that NPC -perception works on us (Night Widow smoke grenades, for example) - which is almost like an AE placate if you have no +per from powers/insps/IOs (lose current target, can't target enemies to attack them - in this case from not being able to see them).
On players in PvP and PvE -per basically reduces the distance at which you can see other players/NPCs (stacking with any +stealth they have). On NPCs a -per debuff BEFORE you aggro them reduces the range at which they aggro on you - so basically like having extra +stealth against the enemy with the -per debuff. I don't know if it has any effect AFTER aggroing them though - i.e. does it reduce their visible range to the extent that they need to be closer than usual to use ranged attacks on you?
Kinda hard to tell with NPCs having longer ranged powers than players anyway - and with me not having Smoke Grenade/Arrow on any of my characters so that I could test it. Maybe someone else knows for sure. -
[ QUOTE ]
Secondery effect wise -Acc to represent your target being blinded by your attakes seem's the most ovious but that effect is allready carried by the dark based power sets so it seems a shame to duplicate so maybe -tohit
[/ QUOTE ]
Btw the Dark Melee/Blast powers do actually have -ToHit on them - the tooltip is wrong in saying -Acc (just like the Kismet: 6% Accuracy IO is wrong in the description as that gives 6% ToHit).
Maybe the light-based powers could have a mix of -ToHit and -Perception, although that might make the set too strong for PvP (being energy/fire mix would probably make it a PvP favourite anyway) and I'm not positive if -perception has any effect in PvE after a target is aggroed (does it reduce range at which they can see you to shoot ranged attacks at?). Perhaps just give the ranged set low chances of low-mag stuns, like Energy Melee has.
I'm fairly sure the knockback and the smash damage component of Energy Blast is a legacy from beta when it was a Water Blast set. Although I still find it reasonable that a high enough power energy blast can knock a foe back a long way - that's certainly in tune with some comic book representations of power blasts (though not in tune with players wanting to use energy blast as a light blast). -
Good idea. Perhaps when the Devs revamp the Shadow Shard to make it co-op (hint hint) they could re-do Pocket D as a co-op hub that is the sole way to access the Shard, and at the same time add teleporters from Pocket D to the Midnight Club, RWZ Vanguard base, Portal Corp in Peregrine, and the portal lab under the Arachnos Tower in Grandville. I definitely agree to Pocket D having a Wentworths/BlackMarket area as well - and maybe an inventions table area, a base portal and an Ouro crystal too.
-
Purely on aesthetics I think my favourite zone blueside would have to be Independence Port, because I think suspension bridges look cool (as do giant octopi and ghost ships!).
Redside, as cool as Grandville looks, I have to go with St Martial - the whole Vegas theme is so well done with the Golden Giza (inside and out) and the casino strip, which has enough traffic and civilians wandering around that it actually emulates a bustling city better than any blueside zone - yet it still has the grubby rubbish-strewn alleyways and other nooks and crannies like all villain zones - not to mention the Carnie circus area, the ruined Wailer area, the CoT forest, the Arachnos fort, the docks area, the DE beach areas - so much variety there. -
[ QUOTE ]
Another question that comes to mind.... has anyone ever selected SO as an end mission reward? I certainly haven't
[/ QUOTE ]
I did back in I7 with my fire brute - twice - because back then you got a decent xp/inf bonus if you took the SO and not the respec (not sure if that is still true since I9 and the reward window change) and I was still levelling. In fact I did 2nd villain respec trial 4 times with him - twice I took respec (and got first two badges - still haven't used those respecs, heh), twice I took the SO.
Haven't done a respec trial since, on either side with any character - haven't needed to with the amount of freespecs and vet respecs flying around. I'd like to do the TV reactor trial at least once, but only to experience it. -

Read the post.

I did - no need to patronise. Yes, they could have done preliminary design work - they may not have - the wording "something we've got on the books as something to do at some point in the future" is ambiguous enough (probably as intended) to leave any option between it being very likely as a near future powerset but no design work done, to some minor feasibility design work done, all the way up to them having planned out 9 powers and just done no programming yet.
As for Spark Blade, I guess ParagonWiki could be speculative, but they rarely list speculation (not without saying so), hence why Aurora Borealis has no powersets/archetype listed (heck, I'm not even sure she's a defender, as likely as it is). Maybe they got the powerset info on Rose Star and Spark Blade from the "City of Hero" website? (anyone here have that cached that can read Korean?)
And yes MaX, your memory isn't deceiving you - Spark Blade does have a pistol in the video - it looks like the flintlock pistol that Thug/ MMs have as a weapon customisation option, and he even uses it on a CoT spectral.
Sorudo - Willpower was added with Dual Blades, not MA - MA has been in the game since the beginning.
