Elvenheart wrote a stirring poem/song.
Their PM and song are reposted below with permission.
Quote:Our City of Heroes (is a City of Friends)I would be extremely happy if anyone who thinks it would do any good at all or help in any way would share it wherever possible. I wrote it yesterday from scratch after reading MrCaptainMan's post about logging in and crying over the loss of something we love with no particular music in mind that the words might work with, so any resemblance to an existing song is coincidental. I'd really love it if someone with more musical talent than me set this to a tune!
The outpouring of sentiment over the loss of our virtual world (not just a game) has been an immensely wonderful thing, and I feel blessed that I am not alone in feeling the way I do. Reading everyone else's stories they are sharing on the forums has been what has helped me the most right now, and MrCaptainMan's post and the subsequent replies of people willing to share just how much all of this is affecting them without fear of ridicule for expressing such emotion over what some might consider "just a game" was very inspiring.
PS - In MrCaptainMan's thread, it really warmed my heart when GoldenGirl said that it's never a bad thing to cry over the loss of something you love, and then someone else followed up with "Love is precious, no matter where you find it." Those two sentiments are so very true, and I know they are something I'll be taking with me for the rest of my life.
The suns going down on our city,
Nightfall is almost at hand.
And the heroes that move through our city,
Will leave soon for some other land.
Our City of Heroes
Is a City of Friends.
And with friends from our City,
Our world never ends.
Our love that we feel for our city,
Is a love that endures through our pain.
And our tears that rain down on our city,
Are shared with our friends, not in vain.
Our City of Heroes
Is built in the heart.
Our friends are our heroes
And we're never apart.
Oh, the love that I feel for our city,
Is a badge shining brightly to see.
And my tears that fall down on our city,
Are shed for my friends and for me.
Our City of Heroes
Will see a new dawn,
Because our City of Heroes
In time will live on!
Our City of Heroes
Is our City of Friends,
And our City of Heroes
Will soon rise again! -
Glad you are enjoying, Jack_NoMind!
Please feel free to add or link to any other examples of players continuing to keep this the fantastic community it has always been. -
Fun! Thank you for sharing these!
The City of Horoscopes made me smile and fit surprisingly well. That's the one I'll be saddest to not have seen you finish.
Followed closely by the City Of Heroes Solitaire Game. I really like the concept you outlined so far and would have liked to seen it completed. It would be a good way to play CoH when at places without internet, like during airplane flights.
Thanks again and always for sharing, Steelclaw! -
Jaw-dropping amazing, Leandro!
It was a very nice touch to include the signature NPC heroes, villains, and Praetorians at the front. -
People are continuing great efforts to uplift:
Leandro created a video of 3000 heroes present for the Unity Rally. Direct YouTube Link
Samuraiko created a screenshot from Leandro's video.
Angelus Animi created a video tribute. Direct YouTube Link
Clawstriker wants to know what was your crowning moments of awesome.
PERC is hosting an entertaining event with Puzzles Two.
Quote:Mindscythe is busy introducing 40 new players to CoH.I also have 2 additional puzzles, if anyone is interested in doing them just for fun, go ahead and send an email to perc.coh@gmail.com and I will send.
And TonyV organized a Paragon Studios celebration meal, aptly called Dinner's on Us! -
Thanks for sharing a smile, Cnaeus Valerius!
Note to self: Join a photography club... -
Arg! Normally I can get Google to help me find anything, but I can't think of the requisite keywords this time.
Once upon a time there was a fan-made tribute game. It had static levels, basic movement with only a couple powers (fly and one attack, I think), and a different CoH enemy group per level. The graphics were VERY basic, maybe even 8-bit.
Anyone have a link or even remember what it was called? -

Quote:*snickers*Garibaldi: "No boom?"
Sinclair: "No boom."
Ivanova: "No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow.
[Sinclair and Garibaldi look at her oddly]
Ivanova: "What? Look, somebody's got to have some damn perspective around here. Boom, sooner or later...Boom!"
(I'm sorry. I had to.)
*giggles*
*laughs to tears*
Oh, thank you, Atlantea! Your timing was perfect.
I, like so many, have been on razor's edge between efforts to keep the game alive and scrambling to save as many memories as possible in case it doesn't. Reading this tonight was exactly what I needed as a pressure-release.
Onward with a smile, a laugh, and forever-bright (even when fatalistic) hope! -

Zap lead our team through a very success run! Think at 0:53:50 that was the fastest time I've ever participated in finishing The Instant Army arc.
Tonight's bonus screenshot came from the "now you see it, now you don't" disappearing geometry. *nostalgic sigh* One of the first experienced and most enduring bugs since I started playing in Issue 2.
Thank you again for letting me join in tonight, Freedom Horde!
Looking forward to next week and getting Vander to level 50 too! -
Thank you for the movie/screenshot, Leandro and Samuraiko.
I'm choked up now and can't even type what I'm feeling, but the tears are good I think.
*hugs* -
Fairy Tale
Level 50 Controller, Plant/Poison
dinged September 8, 2012 while running Faathim the Kind TF. Thanks, Freedom Horde! -
Whew, forgot how difficult Faathim the Kind TF could be. But we did it!
The final clock reported 2:38:34, but that doesn't include having to restart the TF after the first mission didn't properly complete twice.
I must admit, one of my highlights was reaching LEVEL 50 on Fairy Tale from running Freedom Horde activities! Yay, another CoH goal complete!
Thank you so much for organizing this, Luna, and all for the fun tonight! -
Currently in Atlas Park 23...
And someone just reported there are 33 instances of Atlas Park on Virtue. -
Thank you for the recommendations!!
The first post has been updated with the stories I've saved so far. It also now will include the document quantity (set at 100 posts per page) and total file size. Over 1 GIG worth of stories and growing!
Sparkly Soldier - Thank you for the suggestion for Doro PDF Writer! I've sent you a PM with a question/request.
Steele_Magnolia - Yes, I saved Whitmoore and PCU, plus their OOC threads. They are near the top of the list, under the Open RP section. Those threads account for over half of the memory used so far.
I'm not sure I got all the Whit/PCU spin-off threads. If you find any more, please post links here!
Everyone - Once again, please help post links to any and all forum roleplaying stories that you have written, that you have enjoyed reading, and/or insert-all-other-types-here.
If you don't have the forum access to make a reply in this thread, please either email me or send the links in a PM. Zwillinger just enabled all forum accounts to have PM access. I will continue to do my best to include all stories.
Thank you so very much!
The stories I'll be saving next are...

Save City of Zero Wing!
Video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAJlQ6o8p9g
Forum thread at http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=296974 -
Yes, Congratulations!!
May the birth be a miraculous occasion to mark the expanded lives of your family. Keep safe and healthy! -
Someone brought a good point to my attention: The lists in this thread might seem to divide the CoH roleplaying stories into "good" and "everything else".
First and foremost, I didn't even imagine causing a segregation. My purpose was too rushed to even think about some kind of "us" and "them". Honestly it was a messy "Oh, no! No, no, no! I can't lose over seven years of my creativity! Save, save, save. Oh, what about all those stories I meant to read? Save, save, save. Shoot! What am I missing? Compile lists, plead for help, get feedback. Save, save, save."
If I could, I would save the forums as-is, complete with user names, avatars, signatures, and search function. Or at least the Roleplaying forum, which holds the birthplace of my creativity. But I'm only one human without the resources to make that wish come true. So I'm just scrambling to do the best I can. I have a lifetime to read and enjoy the stories, but only a few short months (or maybe less!) to gather them before the forums go Boom.
Will you please help me? I may not be able to save every story, but I'll do the very best I can to save as many as possible. One of my biggest hurdles is that if I spend time looking through the threads one-by-one for which are stories and which are random questions, I'll have none left for actually saving the stories. THAT is why I created this SOS thread, begging anyone and everyone to directly link me to the stories so I can spend my time saving instead of searching.
Please, please, pretty please share links to all the stories you can. I would dearly love to read your stories! And all those others that I have missed over the years. Please help me save the treasures we have all poured our hearts and souls into crafting.
Your fellow CoH writer,
~Llydia -
MadGremlin, not from me. Converting everything into a consolidated PDF is the work of a lifetime. I'm just trying to find as much as I can, saving all the great stories possible that were composed over the course of City Of Heroes will have enough content for me to read throughout the rest of my lifetime. Reformatting into something else is beyond my capacity.
I looked at hosting them on Google Docs, but even the first file I check (one from Whitmoore) was over the 1,024,000 characters / 2MB limit per document. And that's without avatars or signatures.
Anyone with similar questions: If I can't figure anything else out before the forums go down, email me and we can arrange a SASE. (In case anyone doesn't know, SASE = Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope. Meaning you pay for postage both ways and the USB storage; I contribute my computer and time without monetary compensation.) -
All gifts have been sent to this point. Enjoy!
And aw, thanks, Laylarei! *Hugs*
There are still a few merits left. What would you like? Remember, one request per @global name.
I am headed off to work and will fulfill as many more of the requests as I can later. Be good, heroes! -
Posted in the Best Costume Design thread, too. If anyone can made good designs in the costume creator, it's them!

Further heroic deeds to keep spirits high:
BurnSucka invites us to share our favorite toons and what they mean.
XxPsyrenxX wants to know if City Of Heroes helped you meet your lover.
There is an ongoing LotG 7.5% and more giveaway.
TonyV challenges to create a costume of your favorite Paragon Studios employee. -
Clicking the button in the bottom right corner worked, thank you!
(Think I must have tried everything except that.) -
Leandro has a calendar of events related to #SaveCOH. He asks that everyone PM him for any events that need to be added.
