  1. Arc Name: Legacy of a Rogue
    Arc ID: 459586
    Level Range: 30-35
Faction: Banished Pantheon, Circle of Thorns, Custom
Difficulty Level: Medium, should be soloable by most builds that can handle Elite Bosses. There is a tough EB at the end, but but you will have allies to help if needed.

Synopsis:A retired hero has asked you to take a young man as your sidekick, and help him follow in his legendary father's footsteps.

Estimated Time to Play: 30-45 minutes (5 missions, 2 small, 2 medium, 1 large)

    Please post feedback here!
  2. BUG: The new version does not allow placement of Level 3 Enhancement Slots. In both Level-up and Dynamic mode, the lowest level slots that are able to be assigned are the Level 5 slots. I've tested this with new builds and legacy builds after removing the previously placed level 3 slots.

I've tested this with multiple ATs and powersets, and it appears to happen in all cases.

Thank you SO much for your work on this, guys!

Edit: also, when creating a new build, the slot counter says "67 slots to go". This drops to 62 as soon as a level 1 power is chosen.

Edit 2: Nevermind, downloaded an older version. I'd apparently downloaded a slightly older version from the site instead of from this thread. This bug was fixed (if anyone else is having this, use the install in the first post of this thread).
  3. Thanks for updating us, and for not pushing the issue live with a bug that nasty left unresolved!

  5. So is this still up for auction? I don't see any bids other than mine in this thread, what's the story?
  6. Thanks so much for running my arc, Bubbawheat!

You make a good point about the Head Security Robot. It's actually just a named version of the boss type for that group-- a Crane. I debated making a unique boss for that purpose, but I decided I wanted to make sure that soloists would see the boss type. Then, I realized that in a group, just another Crane wouldn't stand out much, so I named it to match the objective title since I've had complaints in the past of people being unable to find certain objectives.

I suppose I could compromise and do a "Head Security Crane" or "Master Crane" or something like that. I'm not sure what the best thing to do is yet, but I'll think about it and make a change, because I can see how that would be disappointing.

Thanks again for running the arc, and for the feedback. I'll post a regular feedback thread after I've made some tweaks (I didn't want to make any changes before based on feedback, as I wasn't sure if it would invalidate my entry if it was changed after the due date).

If they're actually a replacement for existing warehouse maps, and have layouts like actual warehouses instead of a maze skinned to look like a warehouse, then I think it's FANTASTIC, and I hope we'll be seeing replacements for offices and labs soon (the Praetorian labs are better, but still feel slightly random).

Ohhhh. Now I get it. Too bad all that stuff doesn't look so hot randomly mashed together on the Huge model with a scarf around his face and a chain harness.

Random as in "hit the random button at character creation". That costume is hideous. Why would you want that front-and-center in your promotional material?
  10. I primarily stay for 2 reasons: the people in my Supergroup and the fact that no other MMO has done as good of a job representing the superhero genre.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of aspects of this game that I object to because I don't feel they belong in the genre (mostly for aesthetic reasons-- Wentworth's and the AE are themed very poorly, and I have to handwave their existence to use them). But other games, while doing a few things better, overall get even less right.

That's my simplified answer. There are a lot more reasons that matter, but not as much as those two, including the community, the fun of the combat, investment in my characters, and belief that we have some of the best devs in the industry.
  11. Well, don't feel pressured to play it if you are busy, but if you get bored and feel like running another one, I'd love to hear your feedback.
  12. Aww, I was looking forward to your thoughts on mine, Bubbawheat. Oh well, it's still great that you did this, I realize it was a lot of work, and I did turn mine in at the last minute.

Holy crap a dev who actually understands what the players want to be able to achieve. Bonus points for not making the task forces eight hours long or ridiculously hard to set up and coordinate (assuming what was said is correct). Bravo.
Yep. Dr. Aeon understands this game's audience.

Tell that to my boss and any other people who would tell me this is not the "real" Optimus Prime:

I'm not kidding. I've actually heard, "no, I mean the real Optimus Prime" in response to seeing this.

New versions do supplant the old in the public psyche. Kelenar's example about Dr. Strangelove is perfect (in fact, prior to reading his post, Dr. Strangelove was the first movie that popped into my head that I'd flip out over if they remade it).

I'm open to remakes, but it's very important to me that they either do their best to be respectful of the source material when it's good, or improve it where it can use improvement. There are some classics that have flaws, and those classics could be remade and improved upon. But most have more to lose than they have to gain.

I also agree with the Goat about translations.

I feel this way about capes. The basic long and short capes with simple patterns that don't change the shape of the cape should be available from level 1. If you want to keep unlockable capes, make the fancy ones unlockable.

It's ridiculous that the basic capes aren't available at level 1. There's no good reason remaining that capes should be restricted. Sure, there might have been performance issues back in 2004, but I doubt that's an issue anymore. The RP reasons are gone now that the time capsule has been opened and Hero 1 is back (and those reasons were silly and contrived in the first place), and really, is it a good thing when a hot new superhero MMO is coming out, for the new one to allow capes at creation and the old one not to? Heck, when that happens, there will be two superhero MMOs that allow capes at creation while this one doesn't.

Capes are a basic component of superhero costumes. Not allowing capes at creation is like not allowing masks at creation.
  16. I just submitted mine.

    Arc ID: 459586
Arc Name: Legacy of a Rogue

    Synopsis:

A retired hero has asked you to take a young man as your sidekick, and help him follow in his legendary father's footsteps.
  17. Subjective Feedback:

The Sonic Blast set was extremely disappointing to me when it was introduced. I expected a set of sonic screams and roars, and while Shout fits the bill, we mostly got odd NES-esque effects and what I consider to be a totally inexplicable wolf-howl.

I'm sure plenty of people would be upset if the sounds were replaced, but if you ever have the option to customize sounds like you can customize animations, this is the first set I'd like to see that work with. Specifically, it would be nice to have a male scream/shout/roar set and a female scream/shout/roar set.

Honestly, I know anything of this sort is highly unlikely, but it's the only sound-based issue I have, so that's my feedback.

Edit: Yeah, what Elord said, and he reminded me that I preferred the original Kinetic Melee sounds from Beta.

Thanks for letting us know. I understand why you have the policy (Raynbow gave a great example), but also hope that both Jay and everyone else at the company know that we appreciated his sentiments.

But between this post and people actually holding a vigil at the man's in-game character location, I'm worried that some of y'all take this stuff WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too seriously. O.o
I agree with your feelings about comparing the situation to the death of a family member, but that vigil was simple, easy, and fun (especially the part where we all semi-spontaneously self-destructed in a chain reaction). We liked the guy, and wanted to say goodbye. I'm not going to be putting his name on my license plate or anything crazy like that.
  19. Sadly, despite relatively low plane ticket costs, the short event time and high cost of the hotels within walking distance makes this hard to justify for my girlfriend and I.

It's too bad, because we considered HeroCon to be an important anniversary.

On the bright side, I guess since it's not really HeroCon, we're not really skipping it. Have fun, those that are going, we'll be with you in spirit!
  20. Well, I'm sad to hear that it was a LinkedIn glitch, and he wasn't really picked up right away by Cryptic. Even if I'm not a Cryptic fan anymore, I liked the guy and didn't want him to have to deal with being unemployed.

    Good luck, BAB!

I actually think BAB said that.

And if not, it's only tradition. Most falsely attributed quotes end up being attributed to BAB.

To those laid off: thank you for your work, and good luck with your future employment opportunities. I obviously don't know the circumstances, so I have no judgment to pass on Paragon Studios or the employees let go, but seeing BAB leave feels like the end of an era, particularly because of the devotion he's had to the game and the community in the past.

As time goes on, I guess we all have to accept the fact that nothing lasts forever. I'm not particularly good at that.

Probably 50% of my supergroup members that were active from 2005 and on have taken breaks longer than 6 months and returned. One person just came back after being gone for 2 years, and we've had others that returned after absences that large previously.
