I was just thinking about a Dr. Moreau arc myself gotta check it out. Maybe I'll do a villainous one.

[ QUOTE ]
So you can make a minion a boss...? that's interesting. And useful.
[/ QUOTE ]
Custom only though. -
I can confirm one bug with cargo ship maps, some wall glowies don't appear because they are recessed into the wall. 4 of the 12 spots in the front of the cargo ship are like that. Means you can't use things like bulletin boards.

Apparently there is a way to keep a 5 star rating. Just add the string "JSNTS" into your arc description. Go ahead and search on that.
[/ QUOTE ]
What's with that, anyway? Just Say No To Supradyne? I've seen it pop up in a lot of arcs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Instinct says a voting cartel.
How about forming an anti-cartel JSYTS which one stars those arcs? -

Psi Shockwave isn't an overpowered attack, but maybe it doesn't have a high enough end cost?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think if the end cost were balanced correctly people would probably complain. What's the point in having a power on a 10 second recharge if it costs 50 end? -
It's a small mercy bestowed on us the player in a sea of horrific custom creations.

There is *no* "better way" of searching for missions that allows players to publish without limit, because the problem (at least the one I'm referencing here) has nothing to do with being unable to find something you have a specific criteria to find. The issue is more one of being able to effectively browse.
[/ QUOTE ]
You're right that browsing is now difficult because there is so much stuff in there, and that's what I was trying to say, not search for a specific arc, but search for arcs that meet my needs, i.e. browse.
Let me restructure your suggestion a bit:
<ul type="square">[*] Add a new possible flag to published arcs: "advertised".[*] Players may flag a subset of their published arcs with this flag.[*] The arc browser by default hides all arcs without this flag. Although it can show all arcs if you want.[*] Players may publish more arcs up to 1 meg space maximum.[*] Initially players may advertise just one arc. If an arc gets 3 stars average 50 votes, they can advertise two. If two arcs get this they can advertise 3. If an arc gets 4 stars average 1000 votes they can advertise four.[/list]
I would support this. -
[ QUOTE ]
The crazy idea was that rather than being an upload limit the publishing slot represented an advertising limit.
[/ QUOTE ]
I expect something like this would just push people to other places for advertising. You'd end up with a lot more channel chatter advertising missions, and then front missions whose description lists IDs for the authors other missions. It would increase frustration at being unable to find a mission you played before because you don't remember the number. Finally, people would have to turn to external sites to search for missions.
I'd much rather have better ways for searching missions, including level range, etc. -
[ QUOTE ]
I needs feedback badly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ominous words indeed. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'd personally just like to have the fourth publishing slot without worrying I'm going to lose it again before I finish writing the arc.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why not publish a filler, and then keep republishing it? Description could be "work in progress, grabbing the fourth slot while I can." -
[ QUOTE ]
It happens automatically. The mission will be set according to the leader's level. If the leader is below the range of the arc, it gets set to the arc minimum. If the leader is above the level of the arc, it gets set to the arc maximum. Everyone else automatically becomes the leader's level.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wrong. I briefly tested this on a 1-54 mission, mobs will be appropriate for the leader, everyone else is at their own level. -
No Honour Among Thieves
ID: 4336
Villainous
Hit me Talen! At least you won't tell me honour's not spelt with a 'u'. -
[ QUOTE ]
I wanted to get 5 (6 now) friends together and have us each hold up the scorecard emote to display the number of an arc for people to try. The idea was that we would advertise one arc for a while, then switch to another. At first we would advertise our own arcs, but we could take requests or even use the mechanism in various contests.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think there's a score0 emote . . . -
How about a mission full of destructible exploding objects, and an aggressive minion that you have to protect and lead to the door.
-
I've concluded that ratings work when there are lots. Just ignore everything with less than 25 responses and you'll be fine.
We need the system where they are hidden before a threshold to return, along with showing us what we rated in addition to the average.
[ QUOTE ]
The opinion of the village idiot should not be given the same weight as that of Aristotle.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wonder what Aristotle would think of that. I'm certain Plato would disagree with you, he uses dialogue with the less refined to teach. -
[ QUOTE ]
This whole discussion is getting me on board with the "scrap the stars system" agenda. We need comments, even publically visible ones, and "recommendations". Sufficient recommendations is what's required for hall of fame.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm backpedalling on this one. Ratings are fine, but we need what was there orginally, they don't show up until there are at least 10 of them. You should also see your own rating in a different colour from the average. -
[ QUOTE ]
Maybe it wasnt banditry.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I observe that in the first post.
Since this topic has come up, I thought I'd share something that I consider valuable feedback, don't know if it came with a rating, I wasn't told. The quote went something like this:
Sky Raiders are lame. The story is lame. My character would never do things as they were portrayed in this mission. I don't even know what's going on. wtf? oO
This gives me something to work with, and lets me know that my goals are not aligned with those of this player. It also teaches me something, people will play stuff without even reading the description: the story was stated as being about the Sky Raiders.
[ QUOTE ]
I've simply avoided doing MA content, knowing that I would leave a blood trail of 1 star missions behind me.
[/ QUOTE ]
You shouldn't hold yourself back because of this, with a bit of preparation you should be able to rate fairly.
First, read the description, only do arcs that align with your preferences, and only 1 star arcs that don't come close to their descriptions. 2 star them if they have numerous problems and send messages to the author. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I give it three more days before the Devs put a complete moratorium on open Publishing rights, possibly coupled with a complete wipe of all mission currently published. With the devs then having to pre-approve what gets published. Otherwise, the MA system will be populated solely by farmers as farm mission become the only thing people can readily find.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm pretty sure that would be an extreme overreaction, myself.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes indeed. I think adding a way to exclude keywords from your search would be sufficient. -
There's also Forest 3, which has an island off to one side. And no forest ironically.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Limiting Dev's Choice to one per author would be ridiculous.
[/ QUOTE ]
I used to think this, and then I realized that getting Dev's choice gave you a significantly greater chance of getting Hall of Fame because people will follow arcs from the same author. -
Absolutely agree. Random should still be supported of course, so the menu would be something like:
Any
Front
Middle
Back
Front1
Front2
Front3
Middle1
etc. -
[ QUOTE ]
OP: If you're suspicious because somebody gave a one star rating a didn't comment, maybe you need to get over yourself. Are you really that surprised that one person didn't like it?
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe. To me 1 star doesn't say "didn't like it", it says "total rubbish". The arc has a description and I'm wondering who would choose it based on the description and then be so horribly disappointed that they would give it a 1. Perhaps it was someone being honest who only uses 1s and 5s, or didn't read the description, or didn't notice it was a villainous bent.
[ QUOTE ]
Or it is a huge way to encourage people to write better arcs. Criticism is funny like that.
[/ QUOTE ]
No. Saying "The running AV spawned right next to a door and I had no hope of preventing his getaway", or "AVs spamming blind is horrible" are ways to encourage better arcs. 1 stars are essentially saying "this sucks" which is not constructive and is only useful to steer other people away from truly terrible arcs, which is an arrogance of assuming others like the same things as you.
This whole discussion is getting me on board with the "scrap the stars system" agenda. We need comments, even publically visible ones, and "recommendations". Sufficient recommendations is what's required for hall of fame. -
Perhaps as community service I'll play and rate arcs that have only 1 rating.
-
So I can't give my custom critters guns without allowing them to shoot through mez.
That sucks. I pretty much only play Dominators, so it's a real killer.
I just fought one of my own custom bosses, he's a Sky Raider, AR/FF fits thematically really well. But in order to win I had to keep him perma confused (so he wouldn't shoot me) and perma held (so he wouldn't use Aid Self). What a hassle!
