Cooper BBQ in LLano is 64 miles outa Austin, but has some of the best BBQ I have ever eaten. Different specialties on different days, but all are excellent. Long drive, but beautiful scenery.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Did you go that far just for the food?

I'd go as far as, umm, say, the Salt Lick (the old one, not the new fancy one on 360). Llano (to me anyway) seems bit of a ways off just for dinner...

I suppose the qualifying factor is this!

    Resource allocation.

Would the subscribing consumer base prefer NCsoft/Cryptic to allocate resources to publications that are often outdated due to upgrades within a very short time period.

Or would they rather have new content, bug fixes, game features.

    That's the deciding factor.

    Ex

    [/ QUOTE ]

    That’s a nice Hobson's choice:

    a) would you like what your asking about bundled up and restated in a way I know you don’t want it
    b) or would you like something different that I know you care about

How about you guys send Red Tomax the data and let him format it and put it out on the 'net?

He appears to have sufficient resources to allow for an allocation resulting in the presentation of legible information.

On a side note...did you see the salvage requirments for just one Dual aspect IO? 8+ pieces is a little ecessive IMO...especially if some of those are uncommon/Rare.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not 8 pieces. It's 4 pieces. One group of 4 pieces for levels 30-40, and one group of 4 pieces for 41-50. (or 5 pieces in the case of the +Rec/+Regen one)

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Ooooh. Thanks for clarifying that.

I had also looked at the table and thought, "damn that's a lot of salvage required".

The difference between C&C and C&C 3 is..., they are the same franchise. If Cryptic would have said CoH 2.0 is going to be everything we wanted to have in CoH; I dont think many would complain too much.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, I agree completely that they are not the same franchise (at the moment ... joking!)

The central point was that product 1 was not a rip off to the purchaser in order to fund product 2 (which would then be done in the way the devs really had wanted)

If you prefer, the example could be Bioware creating Baulder’s Gate and then going on to create Knights of the Old Republic.

I can’t speak for all fans of Baulder’s Gate, but I don’t believe there either that I paid for a rushed hurried product devoid functionality Bioware had wanted to put in, only to fund the creation of Knights of the Old Republic made the way they had wanted to.

We’re not exactly playing Daikatana here.

I disagree that there aren't enough people to play CoH and MUO. People could have ( and probably did ) made the same arguments about all the fantasy based games, probably even WoW.

I don't think I had said that though. Didn't intend to if that's what I typed.

They wanted it to go into CoH ... But between limitations of design and resourses, they couldn't do it ... Now that they have money (from us), they're gonna make the game that CoH was supposed to (they wanted it to) be.

    They said it themselves.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Umm, I don't feel like Westwood withheld things and ripped me off with Command and Conquer 1 even though Command and Conquer 3 looks like it's going to be just a little better then C&C 1 was.

There's such a big multi-year gap in the release dates (looks to be 5 years between CoH and MUO) that I really don't feel like product 1 was rushed out the door simply to get dollars to fund product 2.

The people who say this game is going to be dying over the next few years are fooling themselves into thinking pesemisticly.

I know the game won't last forver but we're still fine and will be for a long time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I think you're right.

Before the last thread on CoH 2.0 there was another one and in there one of the posters pointed out that given the way MMORPGs evolve and content gets added, in a way we are playing CoH 2.0 (or whatever x.x floats your boat) right now.

If you think about the way the game was at release and all the things that have been added in / changed since then, it's a very different game then when it was originally released.

But the game engine itself limits the devs from doing everything they want (posi often talks about tech not available for xxx or new tech just added new ability) and design decisions made 3 or maybe even 4+ years ago can prevent the devs from doing everything they'd like (think power customization).

I think MUO will be more like a generational change. CoH was billed as a next-gen or gen 2 MMORPG when it came out. MUO will be gen 3.

    Cryptic article.

    Hmm, that's rather interesting.

I had heard previously (I think on these boards a long long time ago) that Jack Emmert was brought in after the initial work had started and gone a bit... pear shaped. But apparently he was part of the founding team.
  9. [ QUOTE ]

Not necessarily. Maybe they're not a "open-up-the-fight-with-it" or a "last-ditch-oh-crap" power. Maybe they're more of a "use-it-while-you -still-can" power. As such, I tend to use nukes on my blasters and defenders not as an alphastrike but after I've softened the mobs up a bit though certainly not when I'm a hair's width from defeat.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would make sense to me (and would be a good use) if the Nukes didn't have a 3 second animation time. When you soften things up, you tend to get aggro.

If you've been peppered by the whole spawn during the 3 second run up to your Nuke and you miss one or two mobs with your Nuke (or it doesn't kill the boss) then things aren't so pretty as you sit there with zero end giving them a big smile.

It's probably just my own personal taste, but once the action starts I prefer to use fast-activating attacks.

    [ QUOTE ]

Geko went got a different job somewhere else (not within NCSoft). There's turn over in any company. People come and people go. And just because the new people choose not to be active on the boards does not mean they don't exist.

Also, the reason for the slower updates is apparent when you look at the size of the updates compared to what has been released in the passed. They're bigger because it's more efficient to release bigger updates. Meaning, the 3 updates per year will have more content then if they did it with 3 updates. Also, the content that you get now is "harder" to produce then content before. We're getting more and more features that were not handled by the game engine. Where as before, it was all low hanging fruit.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not to make a quote pyramid, but this is QFT. Couldn't have stated it better myself.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, except that it's wrong. About Geko at a mimimum, personally don't agree that content's harder to write now either. Content != new shiny game engine features.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
there is little doubt that the slow releases are hurting this game more and more. right now there is two complaints about i8 that conflict with the devs plans for issues, one i8 is small and that i8 is taking to long. they want smaller updates more often but right now its just small updates with about the same timeframe.

its sad to see an SG fall apart cause active members take time off for new issues or while waiting for things like the CoP trial and base raids to be fixed.

cryptic is awesome, ncsoft not so much.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I thought that cryptic did the programming and ncsoft did the publishing.

The forums are up, the newly programmed issue 8 has bugs and can't yet be released.

How is that cryptic being awesome?
  12. [ QUOTE ]
The storyline for me. I like the feeling that my charecter is part of an epic story.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I like the story lines but I didn’t vote for them.

To me there was a huge difference between the way “story lines” were implemented in CoH and CoV.

In CoH the stories were there and through missions you’d learn about the history, stop the bad guys, etc, but when playing the game I felt like I was in *my* character's story. It was the CoH universe and there were big Hero groups like Freedom Corps or the Freedom Phalanx but I was going though *my* story. Sometimes interacting with them, sometimes not. I enjoyed learning the CoH lore, about the CoH universe, and about all the stories embedded in both the story arcs and the other missions.

In CoV, I really felt like I was along for a ride on a railroad doing Lord Recluse’s story. To me, it didn’t feel like my characters were in their own story, it felt like they were a footnote or a foot soldier in the Arachnos and the Lord R. vs the Statesman stories. That difference in flavor between the two really resulted in me enjoying the “style” and the stories of CoV a lot less then the style of CoH.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Because they called it the name they use for coding? Boo hoo let's all cry.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I was responding to your fallacious point that Traps and Devices were all under one tree so it was therefore understandable for the Devs or patch note writers to refer to them that way. Since they referred to both Traps and Gadgets it’s self-evident as to how wrong that statement was.

I’m impressed with the alacrity you exhibited in dropping that incorrect point and simply pulling up a completely different line of thought in order to support the position you’ve taken.

The fact your newly adopted train of thought is completely specious as that the term was sourced from a database label and not actual programming code aside, if you cannot see how describing a game change in terms not used in the game or by the people that actually play the game is indicative of not being in touch with said game or its player base, then there’s not much more to discuss.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
    Cough cough traps cough?

I think the point was just to have both(all tree, really) under one name...

Do you guys seriously think they don't know what the devices set is?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The quote from the patch note said: "Traps Secondary and Gadgets secondary"

So they're not under one tree and whoever is referring to Devices is calling it Gadgets.

And, yes, that does leave the impress that they're a bit disconnected from the game players are playing on live.
  15. Heh, earlier this week I was creating an AR blaster and I was a bit hung up on which secondary to pick... /Dev or /Nrg.

    /Dev or /Nrg?

    /Dev or /Nrg?

/Dev seemed to fit better thematically but I finally went with /Nrg because a) I have /Dev already b) I wanted Build Up and c) I wanted to be able to snipe from extreme range.

Guess I could now add d) I want to stay away from the type of "love" the Devs give to /Dev Blasters.

Must have been because the thread was so OT, and there was a whole other thread specifically designated for the Marvel disucssion. Just glad the thread's back on track.

As far as "the end of CoX", it will be over when players start leaving. Saying the game is dead is like telling Ray that the piano has no play left in it. And look what happened there (if anyone gets the reference I'll be suprised).

I never thought I would say this but I absolutely agree with Taser but he is right. This game will end but the genre will go on and that's good thing and the sequel will come out that will be better. Good point Taser.

That's a long the same lines as I'm thinking... Seems like MUO could end up as what we in these forums think of as CoX v2.0

Makes me a little sad, but nothing does last forever. And, yeah, my last night of playing CoX will probably be when they pull the plug and the servers get powered down.

    MoG bug

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
MoG is great in pvp...I dont see why ever dislikes it...can be great if your a not a [censored]

    [/ QUOTE ]

What's with this "It's good in PvP so don't change it" mentality? Should we just have the devs mark such powers so we know in advance not to take it if we don't care about PvP (like the majority of players)? Just because someone has fun with it in PvP (and I find it hard to believe that they have), doesn't mean the power is "useful" in PvE terms. No powers should be specifally geared towards PvP, IMO. If you like PvP, I'm not knockin' on you, I just don't think you need to think it's the "end all, be all" of the game, and that it doesn't matter how the power works in PvE. I won't be doing the same with PvE. Powers need to be useful in both arenas.

But seriously, if 90% of people who post about MoG think its sucks, then perhaps we're onto something here, and it's really not a bunch of people pissin' and moanin'. I have yet to hear someone who likes the power describe "how to use it". I just hear them say "if you knew how". Which makes me wonder. Maybe I've missed some posts, I'm sure, but the popular voice sure makes a better argument here.

    [/ QUOTE ]

MoG has been around since the start of CoH, so for the Devs to prep it as a power which is (apparently arguably) good in PvP shows what incredible foresight our Devs have. Even if you don’t particularly like MoG, you have to admit that putting in place a power that would be disparaged for ~ 2 years before finding a niche shows some forward planning.

Other reasons that MoG is actually a good power were preserved for posterity over here.

    MoG bug

This is where you are wrong:
    MoG -is- the bug.....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Damn, that's the FIRST thing that jumped into my head when I read the thread header.

@ Old_School - not everyone PvP's; for example, I don't and to me the power is virtually worthless. I don't really want to be a /Regen that doesn't, well, regen. If it works for you, then I'm happy that someone gets mileage out of it.
  25. I think we are talking about two slightly different things here (or at least I am )

Mobs knowing where you are after you re-hide --> if you still have their aggro <-- has been the "normal" way of things since the CoV beta.

However, in the past, my experience has been that mobs eventually loose aggro.

It’s also been my experience that once a mob looses aggro and you are Hidden you can go back up to them and they will not react to you. You can e/ boombox in front of them or do what ever you want; as long as you are Hidden nothing happens until *you* start hostilities once again.

If you run away and break Line if Sight I have never seen a mob retain aggro for an extended period of time. The Boss or AV that’s chasing you eventually stops, looses interest, and wanders back to where they spawned. Even if they chase you right to the mission door, exiting the mission waiting five or tens seconds before reentering would cause the aggro to be lost.

I can specifically remember lots of times where I re-entered the mission and saw the mobs walking back to their spawn point. I was Hidden and they did not see or react to me because they had lost their aggro so I would sprint to catch up and line up an AStrike while they were in the process of walking back to their spawn point.

Same thing for being chased inside a mission and not being forced all the way out the door… once you see the targeting reticle (has to be that because you are out of LoS) on the mob that’s chasing you stop moving, turn around, and start wandering back, you can run up to them (while Hidden) and /e boombox as they wander back – they will not re-aggro on you. That’s happened to me while being chased by minions, Lt’s, bosses, and EB’s.

Up until Ms Liberty / Mynx I have never had any mob, including EB's, keep aggro after I go to the Hospital and return to the instanced mission. They could “see” me even though I was Hidden precisely because they had not lost aggro. That's why started to beat on me again. The issue is that the aggro should have dropped way before I got back into the mission, not that they could see me while Hidden due to their status = aggroed.

So the issue I’m pointing is not that they can see you when you are Hidden if they still have aggro. It’s that the aggro never, ever, dropped... and that's not the way it's should work.
