Quote:I suppose it hinges on if you simply do not mind copied sets. I can live with them, but I don't like them.Powerset reform I'm less keen on. While there are some advantages I think it sounds like a new powerset would be better.
IMO, Katana and Broadsword were a mistake. They could have just been one set with varying degrees of specialty depending on if you choose to wield it one handed or two. Axe and Mace, too, to a degree.
There are sets I just want alternate themes for. I could ask for another set, but then I want *that* set, not a new one...and a new one would most likely (especially as current) be different.
It's just more streamline, if you ask me. Just like picking a corruptor or defender as being two flavors of the same dessert, it'd follow the exact same pattern when you're choosing Energy Blast flavored as Optic Blast or Beam Rifle flavored as Wrist-mounted Beams.
Quote:That sounds like a new powerset and not Powerset Skins.
And the reason I want the same animation length is because I don't want to see people picking which animation to use based solely on which makes the attack do more DPS.
Another purpose I make this is, it makes sense conceptually. If I were a swordsman or martial artist, it'd just make sense that I can use my skills in alternate ways like a Katana wielder using regular kendo + iaido. Or a martial artist using different styles to accomplish the same feat of power.
Sure, I can just ask for an Iaido style Katana set and just make an alternate version of the character to level, but I'd sooner never ask for a set so similar in function than to ask for something so specific like that. -
Quote:Frankly? Yes. I would rather the new animations preferable to a whole new set, especially when you like the set as is but would like leeway in the visuals. Also, if it were a new set? You'd have to pay for it...and reroll the character. And if they just made a new 'Trick Shot' set, it'll probably have some gimmick to make it better than Trick Arrow in some way.Yes, but would you rather have the devs spend all that time on new animations to give us the same powerset we already have? Or would you rather have them spend the animation time to give us a brand new powerset? Personally, as much as I love Trick Arrow, I would rather see a new powerset.
Why make a new set when you have the set needed right infront of you? It's more a waste to reimagine it as a new set than just add functionality to available sets because then you just have more sets to balance. -
Devil's Advocate...
Quote:If I read the OP correctly, your primary chooses which AT you'd 'technically' be and/or give you the choice of what inherent you can have.Think about Stone Armor/Robotics, and more importantly *why* it might not be a kosher combination.
A Stone Armor/ character would be automatically be categorized as a Tanker so /Robotics would use Tanker mods for pet damage. You can keep foes taunted to yourself up to cap, but pets bypass that cap and without support to keep your pets alive, they'd probably die eventually. The combo would be an aggro monster but probably not much else.
Quote:Fire Assault/Invuln with Defiance. Load the attacks with Kinetic Combats and Thunderstrikes and the Resist powers with Aegis. Add Combat Jumping, Weave and a Steadfast Unique. If you're not softcapped to all but Psi, you're damn close, plus good resistance and a self heal. And if AT modifiers are attached to Inherent, as suggested above, both your ranged and melee damage are insanely high. If Endurance is a problem, add Brute Energy Mastery for Superior Conditioning and Physical Perfection (and another ranged attack AND another cone).
Not nearly as overpowered, but Dual Pistols/Super Reflexes would be damn fun.
Quote:Really, you don't see how a hp capped tank with stupid regen, softcapped defence and capped resistances that can keep at least an aggro cap worth of mobs focused on him so the bots can do their thing might be unbalanced? These are bots we are talking about. Have you seen incindiary missles hit a bunched up spawn of 17 mobs? Think 17 burn patches going off at once mate. You wouldnt need to pull out any bot besides the assault bot.
Quote:Freeform power choices only work when there's an involved, committed, thoughtful game master closely supervising character design and desigining the adventures to fit.
That's what the tabletop version of that other game used to rely on. Sure, some GMs weren't very good -- and those campaigns weren't very good either. But that game's rules system was explicitly predicated on a GM being present and participating.
That cannot be done in an MMO. It's just not economically feasible to hire one dedicated GM for every team playing on a given night.
Without that, the idea degenerates into munchkinism more or less immediately. -
Quote:Right, they could just add alternate animations. However:i still do not see any need for this it is a wast of time add more animation options or types of swords to the set (so no advantage can be gained over one or the other whether its broad sword or katana) pets for master minds same thing as changing the weapons thugs (skulls, or any other punk gang) mercenary's (police, or any other well organized gang) for example no need for "skins" just add the options to the powers all ready simple no need for yet another redundant system to over lap another with the exception of on master minds (the primary to chose between maybe a lightning attack for ninjas and not the stupid bow which i hate with the concept for the character but the primary would have to be divided like the solder or widow set so primary attack could be chosen but still think a skin would not be right for this as well the set should be redone )
-just comparing alternate animations we have like the those in MA or the blast sets, vs some of the newer sets like Kinetic Melee, I'm hard pressed to believe *that* isn't a parial waste of time....Alternate animations that are boring, uninspired or just bad because the animator is *forced* to keep within cast time limits...
-it's just easier to make a new set. The devs can pump out something new pretty frequently. Rebalancing probably isn't as easy.
-newer sets may eventually overshadow the old, either conceptually or aesthetically if we simply make new sets instead of trying to show them in a newer light. -
Lol well do you remember that guy up there?
A few off the top of my head:
Defenders do Corruptor lvl damage when solo thangs to Vigililence giving a reverse scaling dmg buff.
Ultra Mode = shiny water and reflective windows (you have to make at least 1 metallic character)
Beast Pack offers animal costume parts like Wolf head, bird head, bull head...and you can run on all fours.
You can e-mail stuff to yourself and others like inf, inspirations and enhancements. No more asking someone to help transfer funds from one character to the other...
When you log into beta, it'll feel like a whole new game...it did for me. Give Preatoria a try. -
Quote:Shuddap! DR....also, although you never hear me, I'm also secretly enjoying your videos as I wallow in self-pity that I haven't the skillz to make masterpieces like that...I'm sure there are quite a few people who'd like to forget my vids.
Anyway, OP, you should definitely join in the forum fun. I probably spend more time here than in the game. and if you like RP, we have a forum for that *_* -
I don't think you do, which is a tad frustrating on my part. I don't know if people are disagreeing because they don't like the premise or (what I think) because they aren't quite 'getting' what I'm saying. And it doesn't help when they disagree with points not placed in the idea to begin with.
Quote:... only problem is that doing this the person could have completely different characters under one slot and change them by changing costumes. But a melee tank would still be a melee tank just one would use a broad sword and another costume would be like Chinese sword user so they could look completely different. So i say no that's why power sets are made for different concepts animations can very with in the set so mixing and matching to fit what you want. example ( all kicks or hand attacks for martial arts or adding non breathing attacks for ice of fire sets.
/unsigned due to would rather have a few options for the powers we have not to were we could make 5 or six characters under one slot.
Quote:What I'd actually buy new skins for:
Mastermind Primaries.
I want thugs that look like secret agents, and ninja that look like yakuza (or in the case of the Oni, an actual ninja). I want mercenaries that look like Longbow or Vanguard or Arachnos, or a SWAT team, or 1930's gangsters. I want demons that look like mutants. I want steampunk robots. I want zombies that look like vahzilok zombies instead of magical zombies (including a tier 3 pet that looks like a zombie instead of a lich). Or zombies that look like mummies.
As far as I can tell, with a few exceptions, this would "only" require new skins/costumes for most of these. Some might demand a new body ("Huge" instead of whatever body the Oni uses, for example).
People are already expected to pay to play Masterminds, so they might be willing to shell out more money to be able to costumize their pets. And I'm not actually asking for real customization, I just want different kinds of premade skins. I don't have to be able to change colors on them or anything.
Quote:I'm for this as long as the animations stay the same duration no matter what the powerset is.
So sure, let those who want boring animations for Dual Pistols have them, but it'd likely feel slower and then have those who spin about going "You know just standing in place is going to get you killed, this isn't a quickdraw fight."
Really, it's that standing there that bores me of AR and Archery as it is, so if they made flashy animations in the respective sets, I'd actually make one and get it to 50!
As another example: Katana and Broadsword never existed as sets. We introduce a set called 'Single Blade' who has the animations and numbers of BS this next issue and advertise with the next update in Freedom, a purchasable skin called 'Katana' that had the stats of the katana set in our world. Are BS and Kat not balanced vs each other? They have the same range, area, damage type, debuff/buff, the only difference is cast time and animations. Damage/END/Rech are balanced by formula. One does have better DPS potential but the other has bigger single hits and can be used with a shield.
Do you feel that is unacceptable? It's exactly what I propose if the devs ever release a set like Capoeira. It'd be the BS of MA in that it is ultimately slower to cast because its animations would need to be longer. Same with other sets with same-ish concepts. Depending on the needs of the concept/animations is how the effects would be altered. -
While you're here, Freem, mind reaffirming some names of mine?
One being a character I refer to in backstory as simply Master Cheng. I originally wrote his full name being something like Cheng Gao Li but now, I only know of those names being surnames, not personal names. Can you do that? Or are family names not in some 'off limits' category for peronal use? If not, can you put any meaning to that name? It's for an old martial arts master (kind of like Sam's but not even close to being that old...more like 90something before he was killed). He is the sole teacher of a technique to condition the human body to surpass its limits of speed, strength, stamina and toughness (and he was a pretty bass ad fighter) and he taught my main (and one other) this ability.
Curious what other titles he'd be in the running for besides the ones you mentioned too.
...eh, I have 2 other names that might need research but I don't wanna bug you too much ^_^ -
*shrugs*
I know that the titles, while they carry the same definition may have different context.
For 'fu', it may mean 'master' but it may mean master in the instructional/teacher sense. I know a martial arts teacher would use the title 'shifu' or 'sifu' but I have no clue on the rules if you'd shorten that when adding it to a name.
Could be Shen Shao Shifu, Shen Shao Shishifu, Shen Shao Shisifu...I'm actually curious about it myself. Since we'd always just put our old teacher's name infront of a 'sifu' and be done with it >_> -
Not really that knowledgable about Chinese names, but I did read about etiquitte (lol sp?) on the wiki page. It's not polite or honorable to refer to someone by part of their name without a title. They used the example of Yao Ming: You would call the person by the full name, Yao Ming or Mr. Yao Ming or just Mr. Yao. You would not refer to that person as just Ming or just Yao or as Mr. Ming.
Even popular examples like Chun-Li (which the symbols mean beautiful spring, i believe), that's her full name. If you don't want those NPCs disrespecting you, better have them say your full name, put a title before the surname or something.
If you want people to refer to your character as Shen, that could be a possible pen-name and not his real name...or make Shen his surname, and put a title in front of it, like Mr. Shen or Master Shen Shao Shi or some other...
But that's just info going off the wiki. That may be particularly formal while in reality, China may be far more casual than that. -
Quote:Well, combining like words doesn't work that way with kanji which is based on the Chinese hanzi system so I'm expecting, combining words with the meanings you want won't work."Shen," as I mentioned before, which the dictionary offered to me before lists as meaning "god" and "soul" among others. I wouldn't want to use it for its meaning, but it IS a real word, and it also seems to be a real name.
"Shi," as I found in this dictionary, which seems to mean a whole bunch of things, but "history" is the one I was able to trace back to Traditional Chinese characters, and also a real name, apparently.
"Shao," which also means a whole bunch of things but is, above all else, on the list of popular Chinese surnames, so it is an actual, real surname.
I actually like all three of those and think I might go ahead and use them (probably costing myself another $10...), but at this point I'm not sure what order to use them in. Randomly searching for "Shen Shi" in Google gave me an article about the famous Chinese astronomer Shi Shen. Again, as Chinese names are complex, I can't tell if this is a family name / given name combo or just a given name split into its two characters. I'm also not sure I want to use a famous person's name, something which I read is considered to be in very poor taste. However, the reverse and what I originally searched for does not appear to be famous. Considering Shao appears to mostly be used as a surname and given the above, I now have a name to consider:
Shao Shenshi
You may be looking up pinyin, which are more like syllables, while traditional are logosyllabic that can be a syllable or a word. Even I'm confused, but I can say shoving syllables together like you did most likely won't carry the same meaning.
For example, if you look up the symbols for that Shi Shen guy, they mean 'Stone/rock' and 'to extend/to state/to explain' but there are obviously other symbols for Shi and Shen and most likely it's the symbols that carry the meaning and their combination moreso than the pronunciation. Basically, unless you know, I wouldn't try combining syllables for your name...maybe as separate words though...
Also, yes Shi was that man's surname and Shen was his given name. He was referred to as Shi Shenfu as well. I'd presume Shifu may be an appropriate way to refer to him but I'm most likely wrong.
Quote:I'm not sure if I'll go with that name and I do so hope that it won't make me look like a complete *** if I run into any North Korean gold farmers, but it is a start and definitely something worth sleeping on. This isn't done yet, but thank you kindly for the help so far. -
Quote:Now with the new 5th tier powers in the pools, I think a 'Burn Out' effect for all your Regen powers added to Revive (with a short duration of untouchable) is even more appropriate than when I last suggested it. Why not? It'll only affect Reconstruction, Dull Pain, Instant Healing and MoG and you have to die to get the effect.Random possible Regen Buff thoughts:
Revive comes with a +Regen, post-regeneration buff in addition to some protection straight after rezzing to get toggles running again? (Totally not been watching Doctor Who for the first idea >.>)
Resiliance offers a small amount of +HP, High Pain Tolerance style? (Say 10%, half of HPT's)
Reconstruction gets the same recharge time as Healing Flames? (40 seconds, down from 60. Would help a lot more at early levels where all Regen has is Fast Healing for regen, till Integration at 16)
n% Heal on Instant Healing activation, 120 or 180 second duration? (Making it a bit more instant, then having the Regen take over for the rest. With 3 level 50 SO's, that brings recharge down to 333.5 seconds according to Mids, Hasten brings it to 245.3 seconds. Still downtime for the power, but gives a bit more time to work with it.)
Also, an insta-recharge on Reconstruction when you use Instant Healing would be stellar ^_^
No +HP on Resiliance, though. Stalkers already bang their head on the HP cap with min-slotted Dull Pain. -
Hmmm, are you asking for a name name, like for the character himself? Because, honestly, you can just pick a random existing Chinese name (one that isn't common, or maybe of a historical person with a similar myth around them) and just copy that and no one would really know or question.
Or are you talking about a name used to refer to the character by other players? You can put the full name in the bio, but what is present above the character's name is what NPCs will refer to you as well.
Frankly, since chinese names can be pretty complex, I tend to rely on people that know the language to just give me a random name and I'll just nod or shake if I like it. But that's if I can't find an actual person from history or an existing person with that name to copy.
When all else fails, since this is a superhero character and martial artist, a title + family name works. If I were making my old Chinese kung fu teacher, I'd enter in something like 'Master Gao' or 'Gao Zongshi'. -
Quote:The reason I say 'skin' vs customization is because, as expected, readers are having a hard enough time wrapping their heads around what I'm talking about. If I said 'customization' with different and balanced animations and cast times, it'd most likely give you the impression you could go into every attack in the set then pick and choose each animation for the quickest cast times.A "skin" is a game modding term which refers to applying a new texture over an existing model, usually a player character, hence a new "skin." A lot of older games would have the same basic model for most characters, just with each of those having a different clothing texture and a different skin texture and face. UT2003 and UT2004 are prime examples. So applying a "skin" over animations just sounds... Awkward. I'd suggest calling this "customization" or "alteration."
I'm not using the dictionary meaning of the terms here because there is no term for what I'm talking about. Technically, the 1st idea is a customization pack, but the 2nd is more like another set that you can't pick favorites from to add to what other animations you already get.
Quote:That said, I have to disagree with your general premise on old sets - just because Broadsword or Super Strength are old doesn't mean they're bad.
Quote:I'm not sure I agree about customizing a set's mechanics, though. Considering Swap Ammo is the worst thing to happen to the game since the Origin of Powers, the less we make sets "customizable" the better. In general, though, I just don't see the need for it. Each powerset comes with its pros and cons, and a lot of the time these correspond to the nature of the concept the set tries to emulate. Battle Axe, for instance, is supposed to be a big, heavy, slow weapon, and it is. Getting a faster, weaker version of it would be kind of corrupting what the set stands for. In general, I don't like blurring the lines between sets. I'm much rather have singular, iconic sets that bring their own flair to the game over having this much fiddly customization to the point where everything can be everything else. ESPECIALLY for money.
It's also not about making a set do what every other set does. It's about fulfilling the set's theme and concept.
An off example might be Broadsword, a single handed sword. What if I want to have a chinese broadsword style? Are you going try talking down realism to prove broadswords are *always* heavy and slow? Or how about fencing? Heck, I already hate the fact that many of the swords are all scattered as different sets when they simply could have been the same set with different animations...Do you make another single-hand sword set? Tweek BS so that it looks lighter and faster? Just leave it alone and push away what other players want?
I'm actually curious how some people would face these and the other challenges I spoke of (after you answer the post in the OP). Would you just not bother and press forward with new sets? That's most likely where we're headed anyway. -
Well, something I ran across on the beta boards...
Quote:Of course he could be lying and making crap up...but if we were taking his word for it....making a whole new set of animations as skins is only slightly easier than just making a whole new set. That said, I'm of the opinion that 'tweeking numbers and animations' might not be 'easier' in the sense of how much actual labor is put behind them, but I bet it's a lot more time consuming to do since one needs to datamine to know the problem, come up with solutions that don't completely alter the set then test them.I brought this up in the beta. Synapse said that they would love to do more alternative animations, but at this point it is only a little more work (I think he said about a week) do do a whole new power set.
As for 'leaving the original sets to rot', no one said SS is weak or bad (I doubt farmers are going to swap SS for SJ). Sets should be balanced to perform up to par, thats what a lot of sets got in the upcoming update. However, tweeking them may be out of the question when it comes to mechanics or conceptual completeness. Not so much out of the question, but then we're wading into 'more work' territory...more work that may piss players off. So do you attempt tweeks that may only get a satisfied nod from some players but possibly angry-face emotes from others? Branch off into a new set and just leave the other sets alone/behind? Why not a mixed solution that solves both problems?
For example: rian is and has been petitioning for better martial arts animations.
So look at MA, one can simply make up new kicks from existing fighting styles and cobble them together as alternate animations, but they still won't flow like SJ, a set *designed* with its style, animations, animation time, effects and mechanics to combine seamlessly...
Now look at SJ, it is being shown to not only give a nice brutal feel to its effects, but it fits better for a kick/punch mix than MA, or so people have said. It has animations people wished MA had and its mix of effects is better balanced and more team friendly...
Now look at MA again. It has gotten updates. It's getting more updates as it gets proliferated. They have alternate animations. In play, it does its job and does it well and there's only so much more you can do to it for only a ripple in the player base...
Now look up, a powerset skin to give MA all new animations? It's easy to say on paper but more limiting if they all have to match MA's current times. A reform skin, with the option of new animation and times balanced *for that* requires the devs not to rehash current MA, opens the possibility of amazingly complex and beautiful animations for a set like capoeira (for example) without constraints and it doesn't literally leave MA to rot since this skin *is* MA, just with different cast times with changes to keep a measure of balance.
Now look at me. I'm riding a hoverboard.
*Old Spice whistle jingle* -
No, I specifically meant 'Duel Pistols' as it'd be the opposite of our current incarnation of 'Dual Pistols'...that is, rather than flip around while you're shooting, you stand *in place* and shoot. Just like what everyone wants, right?
Quote:As for the idea itself, I like the underpinnings of it, but I don't really see how your second option differs from the other "multiple power sets on one character" concepts we've already been told can't/won't be done. Making powers cosmetically "skinnable", we've already got in some sets and I would love to see expanded to others. Expanding Energy Blast so that it has eyeblast action or comes out of a gun, for example, would be dope, as the young people say. Introducing the option to mess around with the numbers underneath? I don't see that flying.
The difference between that idea and this one is that other idea is technically an 'alternate chatacter' (aka an 'alt') that you have to create and level just like you would a new character. You'd just be using the same badges, name and resources is all.
This? It's entirely different. Specifically, the 2nd idea is to quell the need for backtracking to every old set to make them 'shinier' or making a 'Super Strength2' or worse yet, accidentally overshadow a set performance-wise or conceptually.
I guess if you really want to delve into the subject, just compare the old with the new. Electric Control vs Ice Control in performance. Super Strength/Martial Arts vs Street Justice aesthetically. Katana/BS vs Titan Weapons in the general sense (they'll all get parry, and while we can't say which does better DPS, one has 3 cones in it, stronger debuffs and the heaviest hitter).
It's a quandry for sure and I'm not so much saying 'don't go and spruce up old sets' but pondering 'what other possibilities do we have?'. And I remind you while youre thinking about that, the devs said making new sets doesn't take that long. Compare, they *still* haven't finished proliferation... -
At a price of 600-1000 PP?...
What is a Powerset Skin? Well, beside the name being gosh awful, it is exactly what it sounds like: a skin you put over an existing set. It was an idea I thought of when I was reading a thread comparing Super Stength to Street Justice. I haven't actually touched SJ yet but from what I hear, it's the same argument I have against Broadsword vs any other blade set. That is, the look of BS is weak, clunky and plain awkward. One could simply doctor up the animations, but then better animations doesn't fix speed or damage and other balance issues...i.e. it'd need revamping, something some might not want. Well on with the idea...
Powerset Skins...what would they do? Well, it depends what the devs are capable of, how difficult it'd be and if they feel it'd be profitable.
Powerset Costume Skin- Animation work isn't cheap...but creating alternate animations for existing sets would probably be less time comsuming than making a new set so I could see this being pretty cheap...like 300-600 PP. Think if they made a 'Duel Pistols' powerset skin which has animations more subdued than the flashy ones we have. A cosmetic option for various sets. Other examples....
~~Fiery Arsenal/Icy Arsenal = a Powerset Skin that has weapon-free animations for the Fire Sword attacks and sword animations for the fiery hand attacks.
~~Cross Bow = a Powerset skin that substitutes the Archery stance for something like the Assault Rifle Stance and using a crossbow.
(I could definitely see a 600 PP price or more if these skins spread over to all existing sets, for example the Fiery Arsenal skin giving options to Fire Melee, Fire Manipulation and Fiery Assault)
Powerset Reform Skin- This would be an iffy move. Reform Skin works just like a new powerset but attached to an existing set. I.e. if they create a kind of Optic Beam set and made it a subset of Energy Blasts or Goliath Melee a subset of Super Strength or Fencing/Iaido a subset of Broadsword/Katana respectively. You'd technically get 2 powersets for 1 character that you can swap these sets on the fly if they change costumes.
~~Optic Blasts = a reform skin that has less mitigative potential and burst for more quick and steady DPS and a ranged follow up type attack.
~~Goliath Melee = a reform skin with a closer feel to Street Justice, a lack or Rage, more consistent and varied AoE options and, most importantly, dynamic animations that equally or better portray heightened strength.
(These would be limited to a set by set basis but would cost more than regular powersets. The reason I'd see this as a more viable option than revamping old sets is because, no matter how much you change it, the legacy sets will always be playing keep up with the Jones. Rather than change and change and change the old sets, expand their options visually and/or conceptually and let *that* be the reason people crowd back to the old sets...because while Beam Rifle is awesome and shiny, Energy Blast would basically be *2* good sets with lots of custome options or extra replay/functionality from one set.)
...anyway, there you go. I post this as a thought mainly after hearing it doesn't take the devs long to make new powersets. Revamping/changing animations and sets, however, may take a lot more time.
So what do you think? Think the devs could do it? Would you pay for such additions? And how much? -
Could always do something crazy and give each AT their own version of the nuke:
Defenders = Vigilance makes it so nukes don't crash, only costs a lot of endurance to cast (45-60 END) and has longer lingering debuffs. Same recharge and damage.
Corruptor = Nuke does same damage and recharge and full crash. Gives user the 'Going All Out' buff that reduces all Corr blasts to 0 END cost for 10 sec. Take advantage of scourge here.
Blaster = Slight improvement to damage, lower recharge, full crash. Increase the range and target caps of these powers to be competative with Judgement. -
For the name (but don't take my advice wholly, I suck at making cool names), the first thing that popped in my head was Sclera, the white part of the eye. It sounds like a girl's name (at least how I pronounce it...that word rarely comes up in conversation....) and if you think about it, the sclera kind of contains the iris of the eye just like the evil side is holding Iris capive in her body.
Her last name is West, so how about Dusk? Sclera Dusk? Dusk can also kind of mean dark...
As for her story, she's mind/psy? When it comes to some duality characters (or clones/alternate version characters) I tend to think of them in a yin/yang sense. One is good/light and the other is bad/dark but this can also expand into other traits like brave/fearful, passive/violent, smart/dim witted...at least by comparison.
So far, beyond her path of good, she has no ace in the hole to combat her evil side. Perhaps, Iris can use her connections with time travel along with pure mental enlightenment to 'outsmart' her evil half into doing good with perhaps the illision she is getting something out of it? -
Well I got some of my enthusiasm back. But still haven'd done much.
-made a WP/MA Tanker, started the Galaxy city tutorial but with no market access (mac) I can't finish it.
-made a DP/time corruptor and did the first 2 arcs in atlas.
-made a costume for a spines/ice stalker but haven't decided if I'd rather run villains or try the other arc I skipped in atlas.
-I plan to copy over my PB and give him a shot although it's been a while since I played him.
I don't really like testing content though, I'd rather just stress test powers, AT changes, and enemy groups. Keeps the stories fresh for when I play them for real. I'm probably going to focus on Time Manipulation and Poison. There's usually plenty testing the melees anyway. -
Even though it says they're brute numbers, I think that's actually meant for Scrappers. It has a 5% crit chance (although it says only for minions/underlings but nothing about bosses) and no taunt.
-
Quote:I'm in a similar situation. As the game evolves, so do many of my characters. And besides that, while the ATs aren't exactly limiting, it won't fully allow me to realize my character's potential.I think the only intent the author wishes is to be able to keep badges, earned SG Prestige records, and other perks without having to re-earn them. Although I understand the sentiment, it removes a major reason to play through the game again with another character - earning badges and other perks (and the time sync involved therein).
I'm going to be stuck in a similar quagmire when Titan Weapons comes out, since it fits Obsidius' basic premise I established years ago when he was an RP character. Still, there have to be hooks to play a character from lvl 1-50+, storylines, XP, Inf, and missions aside.
For example, the devs introduce staff melee and you jump to make an alt or you have a current character who is a martial artist and staff is within their abilities. So what can you do but make another alt with a different name and pretend it's the same person (not like I don't do that already).
My suggestion in another thread (Linked Alts) no one really commented on so I can only guess it was looked over as just another powerset respec inquiry. I don't see why though. Linked alts wouldn't discourage making alts, but encourage to expand on a character's abilities without overpowering the game or even respecing out a character at all. Heck, it might even save a few choices on the name market if you can link 1 name to multiple alts. Just need tech for that so you can 'log out' from one build and into another. Separate contacts, powers, AT, levels, xp and even position in the game world but link name, badges, inf, costume slots and inventory. -
Well I only just got beta downloaded (finally) and since I'm on my laptop (mac) I can't access the paragon store because of some bug.
It's really hampered my enthusiasm to test *anything*. I've yet to step foot on the new game space yet... -
Quote:I wouldn't want them to do away with AS, honestly. But in the instance of hidden criticals doing 3x instead of 2x, you could simply make AS better. Maybe not shift its damage to keep the same current scale as it and regular critting attacks but slightly improving that maybe on top of looking at demoralize's values/duration.A 200% damage "standard" critical would necessitate a revamp to Assassin's Strike: its critical damage (scale 4.5) is under 200% of the base damage (2.5), plus it has other criteria deliberately added to make it more difficult to use (interrupt). Then again, a 200% critical on everything else would mean that AS could simply be done away with and the removed AoE attack could be added back in, as any and every hard-hitting single target attack would essentially become an "Assassin's Strike" from hidden. So I'm really not seeing the extra critical damage on everything being something the devs will be willing to sign off on.
People seem to discount demoralize. I really do like it and on characters where taking alphas is iffy, it makes it pretty easy.
Quote:Probably because Stalkers ARE Scrappers with hidey powers.... and less hit points... and less damage.
Quote:I think it's very unlikely that Stalkers will get more damage. Not base damage anyway. Better criticals in some way, maybe, but still unlikely IMO. As has been pointed out there is a lot of overlap among melee ATs already so I think something that would further differentiate Stalkers, rather than bringing them closer to Scrappers or another AT, would be the way to go.
That could be a more interesting critical mechanic or something else. I'm fond of the suggestion that's been made before to give them more debuffs. Basically take the idea behind demoralize and take it to the next level.
I think for me a big part of the appeal of Stalkers over other melee ATs is that they reward thoughtful play over button mashing. Done right, I think Stalkers could be changed to enhance that appeal rather than reduce it.
That said, I implore them to keep the divide of the melees where it's at and try widening it. Don't flow over that divide to seek improvements, and try to differentiate as much as possible.
The reason I'm always against improving base damage to pass over Scrappers or even equal them is because, from the perspective of a Scrapper they aren't good for anything but hitting things as fast as they can. The only reason to run a Brute is if you want to be more durable and do less max dmg.
You guys can suggest what you want, but I don't think 'drastic' changes are completely out of the question. And when I say 'drastic' I'm referring to changes that we once thought weren't on the table may be on the table again. -
Depending what kind of Stalker you play and their build. But generally, turning down the spawn size is the way to handle large groups of enemies if they're killing you, and cycling attacks till they're all dead is the way you handle them if you can survive their attacks. Common sense really.
But my DM/WP Stalker usually runs at +3 or +4 and x2 or x3. If he has to deal with 5 or more enemies it goes something like:
1. Drop whatever you know you can drop with BU+Assassin's Eclipse.
2. Placate a hard target (like a boss or another Lt).
3. One-shot another target with Midnight grasp.
4. Touch of Fear the one you didn't Placate.
5. Drop another target with a quick attack sequence.
That will leave you with 2 foes, both of which aren't bothering you. At this point, you can finish with your own style/choice. You can Touch of Fear them so they can't fight back, siphon some life from them before melt them, continue to attack as 2 foes aren't much of a threat, wait for Assassin's Eclipse to recharge and queue it just before Hide kicks in, or line them up for Shadow Maul or some AoE attack.
With less than 5 foes, it's child's play. With more, it's a tad tougher unless most of them are minions to which they are merely fodder for a well placed Shadow Maul.
It helps if you build a certain way and capitalize on it. I build my DM/WP for a bit of +def bonuses and lots of +dmg bonuses. It's easy for him to take down strong foes in but a few strokes. So I make the foes harder but fewer.
