Like we're trying to tell you. More people is not better. It's about having people that can observe, report, and follow instructions.
As for people not inside being more motivated than the people who are? That's a really low blow. I've been there, several times. Most of the people who make it take it seriously and get a lot done. From what little I remember of your posting history, I don't think you'd do better.
I don't doubt for a second that some awesome testers get left out. I don't for a second think the solution is letting everyone in and hoping the good ones can make themselves heard over the roar. -

You're wrong. No Shield melee. And the alternate animations for Martial Arts are probably as close to Street Fighting as we'll see.
The point people were trying to make to you is that "make more powers" isn't really feedback the devs can work with. Glad to see you got a bit more specific in your followup. -
More people, more voices, less focus.
In Catwhoorg's sentence above "more" modifies focused, not feedback. More focused, not more feedback.
In the early stages, it's not about the quantity of responses and people looking at things, or about loading the servers and systems. It's about noticing important bugs and pinning down how to reproduce them so they can be seen by the devs and fixed.
When there's a lot of people in a beta, and a lot of people posting, it quickly becomes impossible to pin down the responses and reports you need from the people working on the bugs you're interested in.
Essentially, we used to have blacklist betas. There was no such thing as closed betas for most of the early issues. They went to a closed beta system, and since then by and large Issues have come out with far fewer bugs in most cases. Truth of the matter is, they flat out work better (or they wouldn't keep doing them). -
Quote:God forbid the devs use test server to test stuff. So unfair that you can't use it for what you want on demand.]] "Account XXXXXXXX is not allowed on this server. reason: Public access to this server has been disabled."
That sucks. It's only been a week since they made Dual Pistols live for people who pre-but the non-boxed set...and I only had my toon up to level 32-ish...wanted to build out the rest of the levels, experiment with some more of the upper end powers for DP, and see what my toon had slotted to put him into Mids...NOT ANYMORE!!! >=(
*sigh* fine, i'll just wing it with Mids as usual. -
Quote:Closed Beta never seems organized when you look at the Training Room forum, because all that happens in Open areas is wheel spinning. No, I don't mean my issue silly. :]
I mean in general, reading a few threads here.
For instance, "is this closed I17 beta? and does DS fall into that catagory? Who all is invited? What about the loyalty program?" <- (Not my questions.)
Not my issue, I figure my issue was my own computer's fault and I have no idea how to fix it lol.
If you didn't get an email invite, and you can't see the Closed Beta Forum sections, this is not the place to post if you want to know if you're really in.
Send a PM to Avatea or Mod8. They can tell you if you're in, or make sure you're flagged to see the Closed sections if you can't now. -
Quote:My experiences with people doing legitimate studies is far different. I've participated in one Informal (thread like this) and one Formal (chat interview through gmail with signed release forms for me and my girlfriend) relating to couples that play together. One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole barrel as easily as you'd think. You may run into some people with some hostility towards the idea of being studied.
As for the OP's questions
1) Plenty. Snow Globe already mentioned Global Chat Channels, and that is a very primary and active method of communication for a lot of players I know (me included).
2) Anything anyone could give you would be a guess at best. I can say that I know of at least half a couples that play currently or have played in the past. I'd say the population as a whole skews higher in age and a more equal gender ratio than the norm, but as I said, that's just a guess.
3) Estimates are between 100 and 150k players. Without the numbers being posted, this is just a guess. However I'd say in the last 3 months the number would be closer to the low end, simply because of new games launching, and a fairly normal slack period before new issues that cause churn in our population.
4) Sorry, no groups as such. You may want to check the Announcements section since there is an active discussion about the East Coast meet and greet, and a lot of people are discussing where they're from.
Last thing, if your study is meant to be comprehensive and have more than anecdotal evidence, I'd suggest getting in touch with our Community Team. In the past they've been willing to help people doing research, either by giving information or by promoting your study in a more visible fashion. -
1) Trade limit is 99million (might be 999 million, I forget) now. Until Issue 17 you still need a middle man though. After I17 there will be email transfers.
2) All Protection powersets rely on Toggles. Some more than others. However things have changed a bit so that you can get to 20, and have Stamina pretty easily now. That being said, Willpower is fairly popular, and has Quick Recovery in it that makes life easy in the END area.
3) Head down to your server forums, and find out what the active Global Channels on your server are. You communicate with folks regardless of what alt/zone/level they are, and it's easier to hook up and find teams.
4) Plenty of Controllers out there still, however you're seeing an abundance of Defenders and Blasters for a reason: Dual Pistols. The set is part of Going Rogue, but was released early for people who Pre-Purchased. AT balance on the whole is very good. They're just stronger/weaker under different circumstances.
Welcome back. -
The Hunt 10 Rikti from Borea is technically a mission from Levantera, it's part of the Introduction to Vanguard Arc.
The "true" first mission from Borea is a "Defeat the Rikti Leader" mission with a 30 minute timer.
After that you're given a choice between a street hunt and a door mission, infinitely repeating. Sounds like you did a Borea mission in the past and took the street hunt without noticing the other choice. -
Quote:They're still parts of GR. That doesn't mean they automatically have to be part of the GR beta, nor does it mean people qualified for GR beta will and should be given access to the closed beta that they are part of.Continually reinterating your argument (which has been made by no less than 5 others in this thread) doesn't make it any more true. If anything, it hurts your position, and makes it less true, because you're trying so hard to make everyone else (and possibly yourself) believe it. I don't really think there's much of an "argument" left really, Demon Summoning, and at one point Ultra mode, were major draws of GR, and are now no longer "considered GR content", some may believe that, some may not, we shall see what happens, but I personally don't consider it "alright", though talking about it clearly doesn't get one anywhere on either side, because as always, it's "up to the devs".
Why even get bothered if you're not part of the beta that includes them, if that beta is clearly EARLY? That means you're getting it sooner rather than later.
It's a matter of trust. If you didn't get into closed beta, do you trust the people that did? If not, then simply say so and have done with it. However from past experience in Closed Tests, the people there take their role seriously and work hard on making things right for everyone else. It really brings things down to hear people complaining about how or why they didn't get in when in most cases it's clear they're only interested in window shopping the new shinies.
Should think about how these arguments sound to the people who did get in. They're trying to do a good job, and hearing people complain is more than a little bit of a downer. -
It's a niche game. Always has been, always will be. There's a lot more reasons that it won't get millions of subscribers than the tech.

They're working on Power Customization for Power Pools. No word on how long it will take, but it's coming.

Quote:You linked a reply in your own thread to the top of your thread? How recursive.
PS- don't get on people's cases for not reading replies if you're not going to read his whole reply. It was clearly facetious, kidding around since you're question is asked and answered. -
I'm pretty sure FW was agreeing with you.
Truth of the matter is, most of the things we see as limitations today, are there because the game was built starting in 2003. They've done a fantastic job of keeping up with the advances in technology, but people who make glib pronouncements about what they "should" do in terms of ripping out the guts of the game, or starting from scratch, don't account for the fact that if it took them 2 years the first time, it will probably take them two years this time, and by the time it gets here, chances are things will be nearly past their Coolness expiration date again.
You can only chase the dragon so long, when it comes down that your time and energy and money are better spent expanding on what you have instead of rebuilding your foundations.
The game plays well. The game is a lot of fun. It has a lot to do. The fact that it doesn't have the flashiest graphics really isn't as big a deal to most players as some make it seem. -
Right. Old Hami, Old SO rules, and a map exploit. There's really no other way, and Modern Hami is much much tougher in any case.

I've neg repped you once, every other troll post I simply reported. What other people do when you choose to publically make a fool of yourself is not my concern.

Quote:"The good old days weren't always good, and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems"So the general Consensus is that Old issues bad idea
well it was worth discussing atleast... i personally would still like to see it but that is fine i am happy with the game now... i just keep getting into teams that reminisce about the good ol' days
There's truly nothing about the game as it once was that I want back more than what we have now. -
Quote:Then why did you spend a large chunk of yesterday afternoon trying to argue they should make a sequel instead of continuing what they're doing?Mod_08 Said it best here:

The argument is pointless. Next.
P.s. Thanks for proving my point with the negative rep. d;D
Now you think it's pointless? Way to waffle. -
Since Holds cause aggro, unless you're under Domination or have multiple Controllers firing at once, Holding is actually not the ideal solution.
Confuse however, is far more handy.
